One thing really baffles me in all of this.Between the hours of 3 & 6 am when the wanton killings were being carried out, where were the berom men in the community, what were they doing that they cldn't protect their wives, sisters & children? Don't they know that to check these extremists requires eternal vigilance? This is one aspect of the indigenes of plateau i cannot come to terms with. |
Whatever happened to our ABC's (Accuracy,Brevity & Clarity) I think Honorable Patrick should listen to some of the greatest orators from the days of Martin Luther King to Barrack Obama. All these thunderous language is still an aspect of the nigerian mentality the 'my mercedes is bigger than yours mentality'.We love big houses, big cars, big shots big vocabs.Everything has to be big or it aint Nigerian |

What is the job of the DMI,SSS,NIA,& the rest of the intelligentsia, what are they being paid for?Is it not to infiltrate these fanatical groups & nip these acts in the bud before they escalate? That's how it's done in other climes. |

It is as clear as daylight that this is just a well orchestrated plot to ease the Goodluck out of power for the sake of some self seeking persons. The PDP has already made it abundantly clear that the north wld remain in power till 2015.It is not just a mere coincidence that the case has been ressurrected at this time |

The police is a complete failure, you're on your own. The Federal Government on Thursday described the Nigeria Police Force as a failure. The government said despite the huge resources it had spent on the Force, its members were yet to reciprocate this gesture with their commitment to the job. The Minister of Police Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Lame, who conveyed government’s displeasure to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ogbonna Onovo, at a meeting in his office, called on the police top hierarchy to wake up from its slumber or government would have no option that to wield the big stick. He listed areas in which the government had been good to the police to include increment in salary and increase in the capital budget of the Force. Before now, a constable in the police was being paid N7, 000, which has now been increased to N21, 000 while in 2009, the Police had about N21bn as its capital budget. The budget was increased to about N30bn in 2010. He said the crime rate and extra-judicial killings were too much and that government could no longer fold its arms while its citizens were dying as if there was no police in the country. Lame said, “Regrettably, the Nigeria Police Force has not reciprocated the gesture of the government by way of commitment to duty and responsibility to this calling. “The current rate of crime across the nation, rising cases of extra-judicial killings, human rights violation, robberies, high profile assassinations and deliberate failure to comply with government directives are testimonies to the sheer incapacity or wilful defiance of the police high command to these recommendations and assignments at hand. “The current security situation in the country, to say the leasts is condemnable and unacceptable to the government and good citizens of our great nation. “I therefore believe that the time has come for the Nigeria Police High Command to review its strategies in order to perform its duty. “No responsible government would fold its arm and watch helplessly as its citizens are being maimed or cut down in their prime when there is a police force in place.” He therefore charged the police to improve on their investigative skills, adding that government expected results on the several high profile crimes committed in the country as a demonstration of a functional police force. “The police high command should therefore rise up to the challenge, failing which government would be left with no option than to find an appropriate solution it deems fit,” the minister added. Lame also expressed government’s displeasure at the police leadership’s inability to implement directives on the withdrawal of police orderlies from prominent Nigerians, whom he said were not entitled to them. He indicted the police high command of complicity in this regard, and therefore gave Onovo and members of its police management two weeks ultimatum within which to carry out the assignment. He said, “Failure from any quarter would be met with appropriate disciplinary action.” Lame lamented that the action of the police hierarchy in handling government reform programmes showed that they were either not properly informed or deliberately ignored them. He called on Onovo and members of his management team to develop a work plan, which must include capacity building and training, logistics and equipment and welfare matters. Responding, Onovo, who came to the meeting with three deputy inspectors general, two AIGs and some CPs, said that his administration was just seven months in office and therefore needed time to carry out the reforms. He said several committees had been set up to handle most of the issues raised by the minister, but said that since crime was always committed by youths, it would be better if jobs could be provided for them. He said the task ahead was not to apportion blame but to think on how to collectively move the Force forward. Onovo said, “The youths between the ages of 18-25 are the ones that cause crime, and many of them are unemployed. “Also, policemen are not the one manning our borders through which different sophisticated weapons are being brought into the country. They come in with rockets, machine guns and so on.” He appealed to Nigerians to be patient with the police, saying that they would do their best to make sure that the citizens were protected. |
