damola91: @collinsfbi @errybody boss, sorry for the incessant questions, Getting the study permit iz quite a headache, i have to go to abuja twice, to drop it and get it back, also paying the repatriation fee. i learnt from a friend dat if i got visiting visa, so if get over to the republic of SA, that i cud 'easily' get my study permit over there and that i wudnt pay the repatriation fee. Please i wud like to know how possible all this is, wudnt like to make mistakes that wud cost me dearly

I got admission to UJ and am about applying for the student visa. The VFS page is not displaying any information for student page. Reading from some people now, I think the application has closed.

Can I apply for the 3 month tourist visa, go there to begin my study and apply for the student visa when I get there?

Getting a study permit here is not a prob but you will be asked to pay repatriation and it's higher here, 7k rand in SA and 110k in naija, think about that. If I were you, I will pay in naija and come over with the receipt and other documents to apply for study permit instead of trying to beat the system.

There is nothing wrong with the word misleading, it wasn't an insult as you see it and i can remember i stated in some of my previous posts that the uploaded card was from Apapa Port Health centre. It doesn't matter where your card is being issued, what matter most is the fact that it must satisfy the general requirement expected of a valid yellow card. It's unfortunate that Airport centre is the popular centre known to many people in Lagos. On the other hand, it's good to argue as long as resolution is reached because it will make things clearer than expected. I am sure others are following and informed of the changes in their stamp at MMI Port Health Centre. No qualms, Peace.

There are various categories of permit in SA but i will advise you to apply for her as a visitor to enter SA and upon arrival you can get her a suitable permit through immigration lawyer.

I take it that u are not updated! I was at the airport on monday the 13th May 2013 and the nurses issuing the card said it by themselves that they av changed their stamp from an old one to a new one.

pavorikoko: @Collinfbi, u might need to always read to understand msgs, I am not disputing the fact that airport is not approved, YES! that is abt the surest place to get ur card just telling that the nurses said their stamp was changed arnd Feb so maybe that's y some pple were rejected for such reasons....

As regards the bold portion of your comment, i don't know all, I am a learner as well but you emphatically point out in our comment that the uploaded yellow card images are old version and no longer in use but you should also try to convey your message in a way people will understand you and not to come out in an open thread as this and misleading people. Port Health (airport centre) might have changed their stamp but that does not make the cards issued from other centres invalid. My permit re-newer came last week friday of which i applied with the same yellow card uploaded on 39 at the most difficult Lagos embassy and my permit came out which means the yellow is still valid. I will keep saying it, your card is valid as long as it's of international health regulations standard from(2005 and above) with issuer stamp, stamp and signature of professional status of vaccinator, manufacturer and batch no of vaccine with official stamp of approved vaccination centre. Airport centre is not the only approved centres giving the authority to issue yellow cards, there are other centres. Don't take me for MR KNOW ALL, but i always confirm whatever i post on this thread to be sure i am not misleading others. The changes in stamp will only affect people who obtained their cards from the Airport which i am not sure of and at the same time, the embassy can use flimsy excuse to deny some people in the name of invalid yellow card. Whichever you plan to travel, you must include a reserved flight itinerary in your application, mind you, don't pay for any flight itinerary for application purpose, ordinary reservation is accepted and you can do that with South African Airway and choose pay later option.

Yes, don't make any payment, ordinary flight reservation is accepted but make sure your hotel booking is paid with confirmation

You are wrong and stop misleading innocent people. The yelow card upload in page 39 is very much valid. Airport has no right to issue yellow and so they cannot change the vaccination card of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the yellow cards issued from the airport are being issued by the Port Health Authority of MMI airport centre and they are also valid as long as those cards are of international health regulations standard from(2005 and above) with issuer stamp, stamp and signature of professional status of vaccinator, manufacturer and batch no of vaccine with official stamp of approved vaccination centre. MMI airport is one of the approved centre so the centre name must be engraved on their stamp. MMI airport centre for Port health is for people traveling through the air and images of the vaccination card uploaded on 39 was the same card issued by Port Health Authority of Apapa wharf Lagos centre for immigrants traveling through the sea. For your information, i am in naija now and i just renew my permit in Lagos with the same card upload on 39.

I am a web developer, part of my reason of trying to go over to SA to broaden my horizon and learn more. I would like to know if it was possible for me to get a job as a web developer over there. My class will be only during weekends and as such, i would have a lot of time on my hands.

Also concerning the medical insurance, how do i get a south african medical insurance when i'm still in nigeria. Or is it that i get it over there.

As for work, anything can happen but for the medical insurance, google Ingwe momentum student medical aid. I think the cost is around R3996 (N 80,000) for one year. Follow the instructions and apply online pay with your GTBank Nigerian master card or visa card

I don't know much about Durban but rent is expensive generally in SA, I have a female friend in UKZN, Durban, she often complain about house rent over there unlike Pretoria where you can share with someone and pay part.

Generally, there are no big deal about South African study permit, you can start preparation once you get your admission letter, getting vaccination card, police report and medical insurance is never a problem. Try and read from page 30 till date and if you have time you can read through the whole 41pages, there are concrete and comprehensive info to digest. Meanwhile, Abuja centre will never ask you for SAQA but Lagos centre will definitely ask for that so the choice is yours.

It depends on your school and availability of assistantship jobs, but generally there no much work in SA, meanwhile, I can't write off the chance of you getting any.

I doubt if the visa will be issued, sorry to discourage you but that is the truth. Once the date of your departure lapsed,automatically your hotel reservation expired and Lagos Embassy will use that as yardstick to deny many people and not put into consideration the number of days such application has stayed in their custody. Nothing is impossible anyway, you can still be granted but i doubt it, just prepare your mind for any result you get from them, accept it and move on. About fine or no fine, if the procedure still remain the same, nobody will ask you to pay any fine at the airport on depature but you will surely be fined and a form will be given to you and they will ask you to pay upon arrival at South African Embassy of your country. You will have to pay else you won't be granted entry when next you visit SA.

Write a detail letter of introduction and explain that your wedding is slated for 30th of May, meanwhile if you have your introduction pictures you can add that but as long as you will apply before your wedding and without marriage certificate, thick the single column.

I can now verify that my yellow card is up to date though i got it from the local government Ikeja and thanks for the speedy reply to my former question, now I have a fresh query before applying for my study permit.

__My final admission letter is due out in a couple of weeks, i have SAQA, medical insurance, medical report, x ray report, bank account all sorted out. But how can i apply to take my wife (to be) along when applying for the study permit, my wedding is on may 30th and the admission letter will be out latest first week in may and i need to apply immediately. please advice, do I need to submit my own application first before applying for her own after our marriage, and if that is the case do I have to put married in my application so as to indicate my status. Also i noticed on the form bi 1738 the question "if spouse/dependant are not accompany you, do they intend to enter the country at a later stage"

Please come to my rescue and advice me, I have full sponsorship for the PhD programme

Since you are likely to apply before your wedding, I will advice you do that as soon as possible and as regards the question on the form, thick yes meanwhile your wife and kid can join you later through tourist visas which is the easiest from naija and you will file another application for them once they are in the Republic either through an immigration lawyer or you do it yourself.

Only letter of consent from her husband will be alright, at the same time, he can as well add his statement of account but not important. Meanwhile if her husband is to add his statement of account, he should title the letter as "LETTER OF CONSENT AND SUPPORT" otherwise let him use only "LETTER OF CONSENT" excluding his statement of account.
