P406: has anyone been given SA visa this year in Abuja?
My friend applied since the 2nd in abuja for tourist visa
his status is still the same being processed at the high commission.
He got his first alert from vfs on the 7th after 5days saying they sent
documents to high commission same day as submission.

what is happening cos he was thinking it will be out in at least
10days but now will be 2weeks tomorrow.
just exercise more patience, they will get back to you soon.

kinethic: What are you going there to do?Working or visiting..
Whichever check from their embassy .From my my experience of living in Asia for 11 years and having visited all these places like Japan , hongkong china South Korea Vietnam Singapore Thailand etc Now living in Taiwan with my family as a Nigeria you can never get a job..which teaching cos u are not a native speaker like USA Canada Australia South Africa Uk etc u will suffer if na hustling and beg God to send u back home..
Infact get ready of deportation at the entry point once u don't have strong reasons of coming to KoreA..a bit racist to blacks but every black there is assumed American Nba star....
Except studying fine..but I wonder what u want to study there. Studying Is the normal excuse for nija guys to travel for hustling ..go to Malaysia and see..
It is illegal to reside in any country without approved residential documents.. If dem catch u na jail u go dey for 6 months before dem go decide wetin dem go do that person..
Like or not no country is nice now and do not need migrants especially those that won't contribute to their economy .. Plz don't burn ur money..
Thanks for saying the truth. I know a few lucky Nigerians who are doing fine in South Korea today but none of them travel with Nigerian identity. You can only survive and enjoy self in South Korea if you have SA passport as an African. I know every details behind some naija who made it from SA, all i can say is that those guys were just lucky and i won't advise anybody to go there as Nigerian to hustle or to come to SA in bid to secure SA passport to travel abroad.

kosoblanca: @ KayVirtuoso I did my medical insurance with IGI and they saw it accepted it now they are telling me to come to the embassy with medical aid confirmation, I called the insurance company and they said I should go with a medical report of fitness. Pls I need advice from this forum.
You need a health insurance cover that is registered or recognised in South Africa, but i don't know about the one issued by IGI. If they accept IGI medical insurance then you still need to include a medical radiological report (chest X-ray) or (skin TB test).

kosoblanca: Pls somebody should help me I applied for a study permit on the 11 of december at the south african embassy and paid all the neccessary fees just for me to call them yesterday to find out if my visa is ready and they told me to get a medical aid confirmation and I don't even know what it means, so does any body know it and pls how can I get it to enable secure my visa because an suppose to travel on the 24th of jan, 2013.
If you didn't include medical insurance, there is no way your application can be processed. You suppose to have confirmed this before you go ahead with submission. Thank God you were asked to bring additional docs and it wasn't an automatic rejection. If you have checked this thread earlier on, you wouldn't have made such mistake, at the same time, those guys who checked docs at the application centre before submission should have also alerted you but some of them don't work with the exact requirements given directly from the embassy. Get your medical insurance in time so that your application can be processed as soon as possible.

You will need to fulfill the requirements quoted below to be granted SA study permit
A duly completed application form signed by the applicant (BI-1738)
Passport valid for no less than 30 days after the expiry of intended visit
One (1) photograph of applicant.
Payment of the prescribed application fee
A vaccination certificate if applicant traveled through the yellow fever belt of Africa and South America
Proof of financial means (bank statements) which cover tuition fee and living expenses (There is no specific amount but be sure to have enough money to cover your tuition, living expenses and miscellaneous projects.
Medical cover in terms of a South African registered medical scheme
A medical radiological report (chest X-ray) or (skin TB test)
A police clearance certificate is required in respect of all applicants 18 years of age or older, in respect of all previous countries of residence for periods exceeding one year
A repatriation guarantee (110k in naija, almost 7k rand in SA)
Copy of a return air ticket if studies are less than 12 months
An official letter of provisional enrollment from the institution of learning concerned
Evidence of tuition payment/part payment depending on the school mode of payment
If student is under 21 years of age, the particulars of the person in the Republic who will act as the learner's guardian and confirmatory letter from such person, and proof of consent for the intended stay from both parents, or from the sole custody parent along with proof of sole custody.
If you intend to apply in Lagos Centre, you will need to include SAQA certificate or HESA exemption certificate but if you are applying at Abuja Centre, you don't need either of the two certificates

bigmitchmob: @collinsfbi and co, greetings:

I submitted my application on the 7th of December which was on Friday and got a reference code from them 3 days after. Ever since the first code, I haven't heard from them.... I track my application every day and it's still under assessment. I actually wanted to spend 2weeks in SA (Xmas and New Year) then come back first week of Jan.

Do u have any idea what's going on pls? Is this normal? Anyone with a similar experience pls?

Thanks in advance.
For first time applicants, sometimes, it happens that way and that is why i always advise first time applicant to apply earlier to create room for embassy to do justice to their application as they wish.

opsy4real1: Hello collinsfbi and others, I would like to transit at Dubai for 2 days before connecting south africa. I would like to know how I could go about it so i will first stop by at UAE then to South Africa. Do I need transit visa..please let me learn experienced people.
Thank you
tzetzefly: @opsy4real1
Then you just need a Dubai Visa with a multiple destination booking with Emirates Airline.

Your first stop over is at Dubai Aiport , clear through immigration with ur multiple destination booking, stating two(2) days in Dubai and ur next stop at OR Tambo Airport, Johannesburg....

You can go with SA Airways as well, but this will be too hectic for you and will cost you more money..as you will need to clear immigration at OR Tambo twice.

It's a multiple entry visa anyway, and your choice to make. First secure the Dubai Visa and all other things will be added to you....tongue
As tzetzefly rightly said, you need Dubai Visa with multiple destination booking and Emirates Airline will the best you can deal with. A transit visa is a 4-day (96 hours) visa that can be utilized by transit travelers who would like to spend their transit hours or days outside of a UAE airport terminal. A transit visa can be issued to individuals who have a valid ticket for an onward flight by any airline that has an office within the United Arab Emirates. The transit visa can be applied for at the transit airport or through the airlines at a cost of around (US$ 70) i think but not very sure on the amount. Please contact Emirate Airline for details.

hannydanadams: Hi,my question is my study permit visa is expiring 20th of february can I travel with the visa on the 15th of this month to come back on the 10th of february 10days before my visa expires?
If you are coming to naija, you won't have any prob on departure South Africa but you are likely to have problem on departing Nigeria on 10th of February. On the other hand, you are likely to have problem with Southy immigration if you are departing South to other country, Southy immigration may view it as a way to abscond since you have less than 45days on your permit. If you are departing South to other country, you may be able to travel if you can provide reasonable evidence for the purpose of your traveling and if you are coming to naija, you will definitely have to proof beyond doubt before you will be allow to return to SA having just 10days to the expiration of your permit which i doubt if Nigeria immigration will allow you to board.

Pls Is there any other way to know state of my application and fed up with their delay, and there's no guarantee that visa will be granted since the departure date has elapse. Thanks
I am sorry there is no other way than the usual online tracking. At the same time, it's usually advisable to apply ahead of time most especially if you are first time applicant. Somehow, first time applicant processing time may exceed the normal 6-10days due to some issues known to the embassy. Since your stipulated date of traveling has expired, the tendency of you getting the visa is very low.

anyways, about the confirmation, can you get it directly from the hotel/apartment/accommodation provider, to facilitate verification if the embassy so wishes?

Though there high rate of unemployment, drugs and illegal businesses in SA, also, there are many people who engage in legitimate businesses depending on your field of study or connections. People in the medical line get job faster with better pay and there are high tendency for people who study science related courses to get jobs but it may not be easy. As for menial jobs, i can't advise people to travel to SA in the name of doing menial jobs because you may not get any most especially if you don't have a work permit though there are people doing menial jobs without permit but it does not pay and they are all *arrangee works. As for business, getting a space is highly expensive most especially if you don't have the resources to start big. There are some who deal with female wave-on, internet cyber cafe, buying and reselling repaired/refurbished cars, some people mostly igbo guys repair phones and sell phone accessories (better than the Zimbas). I will advise you if you don't have the resources to start big in SA please don't come because you won't last long considering expensive accommodation and stores/shops etc

he wanted to and so they did.Now he may need to add a copy of that certificate as ties to naija and is
wondering if they do a check up on its veracity there will not be issues.
Collinsfbi i will appreciate your input.
Since the back dated issue was done officially by the government official at the registry, i am sure the duplicate will carry the same date as the original even if SA embassy decide to verify such which i don't think they do, the date will still remain the same if it was not altered manually.

surdik: @ justwise and collinsfbi... What is the process of collecting the repatriation fee back from the embassy after returning back from SA.
That is the most frustrating process I have ever seen. After you return to your home country where you applied and paid repatriation, you must wait till your visa expires or you write a letter of cancellation of visa if you are still in possession of a valid SA visa/permit. Go to SA embassy and lay claim with the following documents; original repatriation receipt, your passport, letter of acct details from your bank (though some embassies pay by issuing cheque but I don't know about Nigeria). Besides, there is no specific waiting time in getting pay back as you can be made to wait up to a year. The waiting time is at the discretion of SA Home Affairs and that is one thing I hate most about South African Visa/permit because people who request pay back for repatriation don't get their money back in time and with ease.

Oh okay...thanks but one more question b4 I proceed.
What if I transfer at least 700k from her account to my own personal account and submit my own SOC without her own? I'll do it this way...1st week, I'll transfer 350k and 2nd week, another 350k....hope this will help?
I won't advise you to do that because it will make it worst. You don't need up to 700k in your SOC to apply for SA tourist visa. Does that means you don't have anything in your personal acct? You can't use only your aunty's SOC, if you can try and get up to 150k in your personal account not lump-sum deposit with the 200k from your aunty, then you can go ahead if properly done and arranged as advised in the previous comment.

Now, I have reach the conclusion to travel to SA for at least a month. But my problem now is this, I don't have much on my acc and I want to use my Aunty's bank statement who's sponsoring me. Now, am thinking if to transfer 200k to my personal acc from my Aunty's acc and apply 2weeks after the transfer. And when I apply, I still intend to submit both my Aunty's bank statement and my own bank statement. PLS, MY QUESTION NOW IS THIS-

- Hope this will NOT be referred to as lump deposit?

- Hope I'll have a good chance of getting the visa if I submit both account statements?

Please your advice...
Of course it will be regarded as such but you can still do that provided you have additional fund to support yourself because the 200k will not be enough and your aunty must include personal letter of support addressed to South African High commission explaining your relationship and her support toward your trip indicating a particular amount deposited in your account to support your trip. Meanwhile, she will need to attach if possible her ID/Passport data page to her SOC in support of your application. Note that this process is bound to work if for instance you portray yourself as student supported with evidence.

TravelRe: How Can I Disvirgin My Passport? Help Please... by collinsfbi(m): 6:07pm On Dec 27, 2012
post.email:
Let me give advice based on the countries I know.
South Korea:
Good country. Easy to get an admission for your kinda course, even scholarship. visa won't be a big issue. But ticket is expensive (about 350,000Naira to Inchon airport). You could spend 10-15$ a day on food. Part-time work available for students. Many Nigerians at Itaewon -downtown Seoul. Possible to marry a local or expat for residency (not quite easy), except say overfine dey worry you. Spiritual congi dey here wella!

JAPAN:
Less discrimination issues. Nice people. Possible to do the course there but no job opportunity after the course. Possible to marry a local if you fine reach mr nairaland. Extremely difficult to get their visa in Nigeria. Housing is expensive. Lots of business opportunity. Food is moderately expensive. Ticket is expensive.

CHINA:
Lots of school for your course; One is shanghai jaotong university. Scholarship is available. Teaching opportunity available. Discrimination issue if you "dudu" well well. Cheap food. Cheap housing. Business opportunity. Avoid Guangdong province; too many issues with the Nigerians and local authorities. Residency is easy.. Na your money. Ticket will cost about 180,000 or more . For china, you no go get " spiritual congi".

UAE:
Some schools are running the course. I doubt if there scholarship available. Forget 'toasting' a local...you wan ...? You fit use your money solve "congi issues"...lol. No hustle for the faint-hearted. Available job opportunity. Expensive housing, except you share. Ticket is cheap (105,000 -rwandair). Visa is easy. Your "owo" fit get you 2 year residency.

SOUTH AFRICA:
Oh, my lovely SA. This country sweet die. Lots of school for your course but no job opportunity. Residency is easy. Visa no be wahala. Other countries visa na wahala; You need permanent residence, which is possible after 5years in SA. Omoge plenty, any color you like. Spiritual congi will never be your portion in SA. Hustle too plenty if you get contact. Housing ranges from cheap to moderately expensive. Food is cheap. Avoid hillbrow. No-Gooders plenty for there.
As much as i will like to agree with above contributions, i will also like to object to some issue mentioned about South Africa, you are right about everything you said so far, but South Africa is still one of the easiest place to secure visa to anywhere you want to go as long as you reside legally and you are financially okay. Tell me in which country from your list above where illegal immigrants can be granted visa to other countries? You don't need to hold permanent residence before you can be granted visa to other countries through SA, with ordinary study permit/work permit, you are free to travel anywhere in the world through South Africa and same applicable to most countries but securing visa through SA is simple and with ease if you reside legally.
