The Abuja division of the Court of Appeal has okayed the reccall process of Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West senatorial District of Kogi state.

The court in its judgement in the appeal ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to commence the reecall process of the senator. Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of a federal high court in Abuja, had earlier okayed the recall of Melaye.

Not satisfied with the judgement, Senator Melaye lodged an appeal court of appeal to challenge the judgement of the court.

President Muhammadu Buhari met Senate President Bukola Saraki and Speaker Yakubu Dogara late hours of Thursday, March 15, 2018 at the Aso Villa. In attendance were members of the National Assembly and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.

Top on the agenda was the delay in the passage of the 2018 budget, a situation lawmakers had blamed on the failure of heads of some Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to appear before the Senate to defend their budgets.

Also, over 70% of these MDAs were yet to submit their budget breakdown.

“At the meeting last night, President Buhari was surprised to find out that not all minsters have appeared before the Senate,”

“President Buhari apologized for thinking the blame was on the National Assembly,” the source who pleaded anonymity added.

President Buhari also gave a one-week ultimatum to all heads of agencies who were yet to comply with the requirements to do so.

This will be communicated to the heads of agencies by the SGF.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, the SGF said:

“Mr President has given instructions that all ministries and parastatals should ensure that they appear before the national assembly to defend their submissions so that we can get this out of the way.

“This is a very dynamic year, there are preparations for elections and we are having quite a number of security challenges.

“And so if we do not appropriate, where will the money come from to be able to prosecute some of the assignments the federal government has in the appropriation of 2018.

“So this is a very good meeting; we intend to build on it. It is a confidence building mechanism and it is an interface that would definitely get a new dimension of the governance of this country for the betterment of the people of Nigeria.”

Former United States’ Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, has escaped a major domestic accident in India after she slipped and fractured her wrist in the bathtub at the five-star resort where she was staying.

Clinton was taken to a hospital in the city of Jodphur at around 5 am local time Wednesday. Clinton underwent an X-ray and a CT scan that confirmed a hairline fracture of her right wrist.

The former United States’ presidential candidate had been given a plaster bandage and advised to go for another checkup in three days. The injury does not impact Clinton’s ability to travel.

The Times of India and DNA India both reported that Clinton had been treated for pain in her right hand since she arrived in Jodphur Tuesday afternoon.

The pain forced her to cancel a planned visit to the 15th-century Mehrangarh Fort Tuesday evening following the doctor’s advice.

Earlier in the week, a video showed Clinton slipping on stairs twice as she visited the Jahaz Mahal in the ancient city of Mandu.

Clinton appeared to use her right had to catch herself on the stairs, but it was not immediately clear whether this fall was the source of her injury.

A team of safety and security auditors from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) have commenced work geared at preparing four of Nigeria’s international airports sited in Enugu, Port Harcourt, Kaduna, and Kano ready for international certifications, says Managing Director/CEO of FAAN, Mr. Saleh Dunoma.

Dunoma, who addressed aviation reporters in Lagos yesterday, also announced that all ongoing remodeling work at the Lagos and Abuja airports would be completed by June 2018.

“We had to change the completion dates (initially fixed for 2016) because of issues pertaining to dollar exchange rate with contractors because when the projects were awarded the dollar exchanged for N160 but as at today it goes for over N300 per $1. The approval process for the variations of the contract ended up being sop lengthy, but Port Harcourt Airport is about 80 per cent completed, while Abuja and Lagos are almost done. By the middle of this year we should complete these projects,” he added.

Dunoma said the said safety and security processes, infrastructure and conditions at the Enugu, Port Harcourt, Kano, and Kaduna international airports were being evaluated by the auditors from NCAA and FAAN with the view to getting them align with international standards prior to their certification.

Dunoma said the certification of the four airports became necessary following the successful certification of the Lagos and Abuja airports by the NCAA and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). None of Niegria’s airports operated with any international certification until the Lagos and Abuja airports were certified in 2017. Dunoma said the plan was to get all airports in the country certified in the years ahead.

He also said plans have reached advanced stage to procure and install mobile Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at the airside of all airports in the country.

Dunoma said that the mobile CCTV cameras would cover a distance of seven kilometers and could sight even long distances at night.

According to him, with the procurement of the mobile cameras and improvement on perimeter fencing patrol, the era of incursions into the airside of airports by unwanted persons (like the recent invasion of the Akure airport runway by heard of cows) would be eliminated.

Dunoma also debunked allegations that runways managed by the agency were faulty and could have been responsible for the accident involving a Dana Air flight recently at the Port Harcourt Airport.

“One of the features of runways design is to ensure effective drainage on the sides so that water does not collect at the centres and that’s how our runways are,” he said.

“So we don’t have issues with flooding on our runways because our runways are designed in such a way that water is properly drained,” he added.

On the indebtedness of airlines and other concessionaires in the sector, Dunoma said FAAN was reconciling the debts with its clients at regional level and would continue to do this until the debts are reduced to the barest minimum, but observed that aviation industry worldwide allows credit.

The police in Niger have arrested six persons suspected to have been involved in the stoning of Gov. Abubakar Bello in Bida town on Thursday, March 8.

Mr Dibal Yakadi, the Commissioner of Police in Niger, confirmed the arrests in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) in Minna on Wednesday.

Bello had gone to assess the damage on Bida Old Market, which was burnt on March 1 and to sympathise with traders affected by the incident.

On the occasion, some youths booed the governor and pelted his official vehicle with stones.

The night fire destroyed 900 shops and the governor donated N20 million to the fire victims to help lessen their pains.

Yakadi said the police had commenced an investigation to establish those who sponsored the action.

”As soon as we finished our investigation the suspects will be charged to court,” he said.

Yakadi said the command would not tolerate any act capable of disturbing the peace of the state and warned the people, especially the youth, to desist from all forms of political violence and thuggery.

The commissioner charged the youth not to allow themselves to be used as agents of destruction as anyone caught would be made to face the law.

” We will ensure diligent prosecutions of all those involved so as to serve as a lesson for others who are thinking in the same direction,” he said.

Yakadi said the command had already taken proactive security measures to deal with any form of security threat to peace in the state.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday arrived in Maiduguri as part of nationwide visit to trouble areas in the country.

The President is billed to visit Yobe to meet with families of 110 school girls abducted by Boko Haram insurgents at Government Girls Science and Technical School, Dapchi, on Feb. 19.

The presidential jet landed at Maiduguri International Airport at about 11.01 am.

The President was received by Gov. Kashim Shettima of Borno, Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Obayomi Olonishakin, National Security Adviser (NSA) Retired Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno and other service chiefs.

Others were the ministers of Education; Youth and Sports, Interior, and Information and Culture, Mr Adamu Adamu, Solomon Dalong, Abdulrahman Dambazau and Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

The President, accompanied by top government functionaries, was expected to board a chopper to Damaturu, the Yobe capital later in the day.

President Buhari’s media aide, Femi Adesina, who was on Raypower FM this morning, reacted to the viral report of President Buhari not knowing that the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, did not obey his order to relocate to the state after the January 1st massacre that claimed 76 lives.

According to Femi Adesina, President Buhari has other channels of getting information but that doesn’t mean he gets everything.

It just tells you that the president is not omniscient. As president and commander-in-chief, he has other channels, but it doesn’t mean that he gets every information under the sun.” he said

However when the anchor of the radio show told him that on security matters, the President of a country is expected to be kept updated on challenges and new developments, Femi Adesina said;

It is not correct, even in the best countries in the world, the super powers, there still would be security breaches and failures. It is not correct…”
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),who has also reacted to the report, said that President Buhari directly admitted running an incompetent, disorganized and uncoordinated administration.


Their Statement read;

Nigerians have completely lost hope in President Muhammadu Buhari and his incompetent administration. By stating that he was unaware that the IGP only spent 24 hours in Benue state, Mr President has confirmed that he has not been effectively monitoring the handling of the security situation of our nation.

This places a huge question mark on the regular assurances issued from the Presidency on security.

For our party, PDP, the expression of President Buhari has once again vindicated our position that our nation has been placed on autopilot cruise with a cabal pretending to be managing our affairs.

Indeed, Nigerians need to know; what exactly did President Buhari, as the Commander-in-Chief, do when he realized that the IGP did not carry out his orders? We demand a direct answer from the Presidency.

The fact is that there is no sense of remorse by the Government as the President himself spent only two hours in Benue state without visiting the victims or even making any direct policy statement on those behind the killings and how to forestall future bloodletting. Rather, in the character of this government, Mr. President engaged in yet another blame game instead of facing issues.

If the Presidency is not committed to monitoring critical issues such as security, then Nigerians are no longer in doubt as to why other sectors, particularly our once robust economy, had gone comatose under the Buhari administration.

Moreover, Nigerians are miffed that while the wailings over these daily bloodletting are yet to abate, President Buhari is busy announcing his plans to return to Benue to seek for another round of votes.

This shows clinically that Mr. President is truly not aware that Nigerians have since abandoned him in his state of unawareness.

Nigerians can no longer bear with a government that cannot give directions to officials and monitor it through; a government that is so inept that it lacks the elementary proficiencies to initiate and implement effective policies and programmes for national cohesion and development; a government that lacks the basic skills to internationally engage and run a virile economy.

We have a government that was so careless, that it even had names of dead persons in the list of appointees to federal boards. What a tragedy!
Again, we maintain that our nation has been on auto-drive under the APC and Nigerians cannot wait to end this nightmare come 2019.

For us, in the PDP, the well-being of Nigerians and overall national cohesion will continue to remain paramount to us at all times, as we rally with the people on our repositioned platform ahead of the 2019 general elections.

At least 40 people were killed and 23 injured when a Bangladeshi plane crashed and burst into flames near Kathmandu airport on Monday, in the worst aviation disaster to hit Nepal in years.

Officials said there were 71 people on board the US-Bangla Airlines plane from Dhaka when it crashed into a football field near the airport.

Rescuers had to cut apart the mangled and burned wreckage of the aircraft to pull people out.

“Thirty-one people died at the spot and nine died at two hospitals in Kathmandu,” police spokesman Manoj Neupane told AFP, adding another 23 were injured.

The cause of the crash was not immediately clear, but a statement from airport authorities said the plane was “out of control” as it came in to land.

Eye witnesses said the plane crashed as it made a second attempt to land.

Nepal Army spokesman Gokul Bhandaree said seven of the victims had survived the impact but later died of their injuries.

Plumes of black smoke could be seen rising from the football pitch where the plane crashed, to the east of the runway at Nepal’s only international airport, in the capital Kathmandu.

Airline spokesman Kamrul Islam, told AFP 33 of the passengers were Nepali, 32 were Bangladeshi, one was Chinese and one from the Maldives.

The plane was a Canadian-made Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 turboprop, Mahbubur Rahman of Bangladesh’s civil aviation ministry told AFP. Other sources said the aircraft was 17 years old.

“There might be technical problems on the aircraft. But it has to be probed before making a final statement,” Rahman told AFP.

Kathmandu briefly closed after the accident, forcing inbound flights to divert, but it has since reopened.

US-Bangla Airlines is a private carrier that launched in July 2014 with the motto “Fly Fast Fly Safe”, according to its website.

The Dhaka-based airline made its first international flight in May 2016 to Kathmandu, and has since expanded with routes to South Asia, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

In 2015 one of its planes overshot the runway on landing at Saidpur in northwest Bangladesh. There were no reports of injuries.

Nepal has suffered a number of air disasters in recent years, dealing a blow to its tourist industry.

Its poor air safety record has been blamed largely on inadequate maintenance, inexperienced pilots and substandard management.

In early 2016, a Twin Otter turboprop aircraft slammed into a mountainside in Nepal killing all 23 people on board.

Two days later, two pilots were killed when a small passenger plane crash-landed in the country’s hilly midwest.

Zambia is waging a fierce campaign against sex dolls, threatening offenders with heavy jail terms over the dolls which, it says, are “very unnatural”. The government launched the crackdown on the intimacy gadgets last month.

The action has propelled the issue of sex dolls to the top of the news agenda and made them a hot topic of conversation and debate on social media, dividing opinion in the largely conservative southern African country.

“No one sells them openly, no one admits to owning one, and no one has been arrested,’’ report said.

“Being a Christian nation, obviously we are anchored in Christian principles and one of the values is morality and ethics,” Minister of National Guidance and Religious Affairs Godfridah Sumaili, said.

Selling or using a sex doll is against Zambian law, she said, vowing to ensure they are not bought on the internet and imported.

“The use of sex dolls is definitely in contradiction to our natural heritage and our principles,” Sumaili added.

“The law actually forbids anybody to trade (in) and to use such objects — and so this is why we are saying for Zambians that this is a very unnatural thing.”

The minister said the ban was necessary after media reports emerged of sex dolls being imported into Zambia, apparently from Asia. Police are investigating, she added.

In recent months, Zambia’s independent and semi-official press have devoted many column inches to reports of sex shops popping up around the capital Lusaka selling sex dolls, as well as chronicling the backlash.

“God created man and woman for sexual satisfaction — but for a man or woman to use a lifeless object is immoral,” Sumaili said.

“Let’s not import foreign beliefs and experiences. Let us just believe in what we are.”

The manufacture of sex dolls has become increasingly sophisticated, with China developing custom-made “smart” dolls that can talk, play music and turn on dishwashers.

Sex dolls’ inventors say they can cure loneliness and help elderly men who lack female companionship.

In Zambia, the dolls made of silicone were reportedly in a variety of shapes and shades, but could not be found in any shops.

This is stating it as clearly as former American Vice President Joe Biden did on the re-election campaign trail back in 2012 when he proclaimed to a crowd of cheering supporters in Detroit, Michigan, “Osama bin Laden is dead and General Motors is alive”


As far as bumper stickers go, Governor Willie Obiano has a compelling catalogue of achievements on the security and economic fronts to adorn the colourful profile of a thousand bumper stickers. But his re-election is not expected to be half as tough as Obama’s 2012 summer run against Mitt Romney.

Obiano’s record has placed him beyond the optimistic aspirations of the most ambitious opponents in the forth- coming election. His vision and creative policies have saved the state from economic recession and in the process foisted some sort of political recession on the state that has left the political landscape starved of formidable opposition.

But politicians are creatures of habit, and like the Bourbons that ruled most of Europe centuries ago, the political actors in Anambra seem to have learnt nothing and forgotten nothing from the past. So, the race is on, and following the same familiar pattern of intra-elite war with little or no bearing on the real issues of concern to the electorate.

In its current form, the race to the polls is simply a battle between progressives, swept along by the discernible outcome of Obiano’s strong ideas and transformative vision and those die hard traditionalists stuck in time with nostalgia about the fading era of strong men like Peter Obi.

This divide has made the race primarily a contest between Governor Willie Obiano and his predecessor, Peter Obi. It really could have been a tripod but for the fact that Tony Nwoye of the APC is generally perceived as bereft of meaningful political capital. His antecedent is a troubling chronicle of political thuggery and the fact that the APC as a political vehicle is anathema in the region.

And things couldn’t get any worse than recent revelations by the World Bank that President Buhari’s declared obsession is with developing the North at the expense of the rest of the country.

All of a sudden, whatever little merit there was to Nwoye’s dangling carrot of linking Anambra to the centre has been completely pulverized by this revelation. Successful political campaigns are scarcely built on such parochial vision in a plural society, except of course you’re running under the moniker of Trump or Buhari. The party was over for Nwoye long before it started.

How Will Chelsea Cope Without Alvaro Morata and N'Golo Kante?

Having replaced the bull with the matador, it was all going pretty well for Chelsea post-Diego Costa, as Alvaro Morata settled seamlessly into the pace of the Premier League.

Despite a resume that houses trophy-laden stints at both Real Madrid and Juventus, reservations lingered over whether football's best supporting actor could cut it as a leading man. Six goals in as many league starts acted as swift, sharp slap to the chops for those who look upon the Premier League the way a mother does a newborn child.

Devotion can be blinding. As it transpires, the goals are the same shape and size over here as they are over there.

Morata's strike in Chelsea's immaculate away win at Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League took on even greater symbolism, as Costa sat in the stands with the classic rictus expression of a man who claims he wants his ex-wife to be happy (just not with another man). Think Larry David's incredulity when Ted Danson asks to date Cheryl in the latest series of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

With Morata looking like a star, the sight of him hobbling off against Manchester City prior to the international break, clutching his hamstring, was cruel. Spain's medical team said he had suffered a Grade 2 tear (h/t BBC Sport), which could mean as much as an eight-week lay-off.

Morata and Chelsea have since intimated the injury is not as serious as first feared, according to Dominic Fifield of the Guardian. Though what is not in dispute is just one fit senior striker will be available to Blues boss Antonio Conte for Saturday's game against Crystal Palace.

Having scored a goal every 62 minutes for Chelsea across his sparse Premier League and Champions League appearances, it's fair to say Michy Batshuayi etches his name on the scoresheet more often than he does his manager's thoughts. False strikers are not always better than real ones.

A further blow to Chelsea is the indefatigable N'Golo Kante has suffered his first injury since moving to England two-and-a-bit seasons ago. One would have had money on an exploded lung being the reason for his absence. Alas, like Morata, he is more plainly hamstrung by his hamstring.

Though unprecedented, it hardly needs great prescience to predict the best player in his position for two seasons running will be sorely missed.

A former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has explained why he is working against the re-election of his successor, Willie Obiano.

Obi, who spoke on Wednesday during a rally organised by the women’s wing of the Peoples Democratic Party at the PDP secretariat in Awka, Anambra State, said he was just against Obiano’s poor performance.

A media aide to governor Obiano, Mr. Egbuna Amuta, had alleged in an interview with a private radio station in the state that Obi’s feud with Obiano was because the latter had refused to pay N7bn Obi demanded for allegedly funding the 2013 election of Obiano.

But addressing the PDP women on Wednesday, Obi said, "In 2013, I took Obiano around Anambra State, to the markets, to every part of the state and the people kept asking me if I was sure of him as they did not know him, so they voted for him because of me.

“I told them, I would be the one to lead a campaign against Obiano if he did not perform well in his first term. Today, can anyone show me what the governor has done within his first term? He has nothing to show for it. I don’t have any issue with Mr. Willie Obiano as a person, but I have issues with Willie Obiano as governor.”

He said Obiano remained his bossom friend, describing what he called the governor’s poor performance as worrisome.

The former governor, who was accompanied to the rally by the PDP governorship candidate in the November poll in the state, Mr. Oseloka Obaze, said he was fighting Obiano because of a vow he made to Anambra people in 2013.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday met the Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The meeting came ahead of the state governorship election scheduled to hold on November 18.

The Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano in an interview with State House correspondents at the end of the meeting revealed the outcome of his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Governor Obiano said President Buhari likes governors like him – governors who deliver dividends of democracy to their people. President Buhari, in the meeting, had promised governor Obiano of a free and fair governorship election in Anambra state come November 18.

Governor Obiano said President Buhari made it clear to him that he (President Buhari) only want’s to make sure every governor is delivering to the people as expected, regardless of which political party that governor may be in.

According to Obiano,
“He’s reassured free and fair election, that’s what should be important to me.”
