PoliticsRe: Residents Confirm Helicopter Supplies To Herdsmen In Delta Community by comos(op): 10:38am On Mar 10, 2017
A farmer in the area, Victor Erherha, said it was common knowledge in the community that some persons were using helicopters to make supplies to herdsmen occupying a desert area of Ovre-Abraka.

“They also use trailers to transport things into the area and they normally brandish guns on the face of the farmers in the area. I have personally fallen victim to their attack sometime ago.”

Accusing security agents of conspiracy, the farmer said: “There is a synergy between the Alhajis and some security agents, who have the phone numbers of some top officers.

When Vanguard visited the community, yesterday, spokesperson of one of the communities, Efe Samuel, confirmed that the people were panicky over the supplies, adding: “Yes, we have seen helicopters flying around in that area, but their objective is what I do not understand.”

“Most of the times, the helicopters normally land inside the desert area. There are two helicopters with different colours. One of them is painted in green army colour, just like the herdsmen, most of whom are dressed in military camouflage and armed with rifles. Though I cannot give much details on their operations inside the desert area because as you know, we do not stay there, but only go there to hunt and farm, these herdsmen also use motorcycles in patrolling the area most of the times and they shoot at anyone who questions them,” he said.

ABRAKA— RESIDENTS of Abraka community, Ethiope East Local Government Area, Delta State, yesterday, corroborated the claim that unknown persons in military camouflage were, indeed, making strange supplies with helicopters to herdsmen at a barren region of Ovre-Abraka village, saying they were scared at the development.

The lawmaker representing Ethiope East in the state House of Assembly, Mr. Evance Ivwurie, had raised the alarm recently over alleged supplies by an unidentified helicopter to herdsmen at Ovre-Abraka. Armed Fulani-herdsmen When Vanguard visited the community, yesterday, spokesperson of one of the communities, Efe Samuel, confirmed that the people were panicky over the supplies, adding: “Yes, we have seen helicopters flying around in that area, but their objective is what I do not understand.” “Most of the times, the helicopters normally land inside the desert area.

A farmer in the area, Victor Erherha, said it was common knowledge in the community that some persons were using helicopters to make supplies to herdsmen occupying a desert area of Ovre-Abraka. Erherha, however, said he had not sighted the helicopters himself, adding.

“In the event of any arrest, these Alhajis, who have contacts with the security agencies facilitate bail for the herdsmen.”

You've misunderstood me. You should know that by Benin, I'm referring to The Benin republic, the country right? I listed the original Yoruba cities in that county. We are the second largest ethnic group there and no I wasn't referring to Edo people or Delta people. I was only referring to Yoruba people outside of Nigeria in Benin republic and Togo. As for the South-south, I can respect their sovereignty, they are clearly not Yoruba, so carry on.
but you drew your map to include Edo and Delta

PoliticsNJC Exonerates Justice Dimgba, Dismisses DSS Petition by comos(op): 5:09pm On Mar 06, 2017
The National Judicial Council has exonerated Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court of bribery allegation levelled against him by the Department of State Services, The PUNCH has learnt.

It was learnt that the NJC took the decision to dismiss the DSS petition at its two-day meeting held on February 22 and 23.

A source, who is familiar with the case, said that after a period of trial, the petition was dismissed for lacking in merit.

The source said, “There was a trial following the petition by the DSS. The DSS sent their officials to the NJC during the trial but could not substantiate any of the allegations levelled against the judge. All the allegations were found to be unfounded.

“The NJC had to commend the judge for his courageous decisions in the case in which the DSS had alleged that he was compromised.

“He will get his letter from the NJC exonerating him this week.”

Dimgba was one of the judges, whose residences were raided by the operatives of the DSS on various allegations of corruption between October 7 and 8, 2016.

Nobody will lose any job as the South Africans will be forced to either sell their stakes in the companies or mount pressures on their government to curb the attacks.

Now imagine what will happen if other African governments follow that route to protest the continued attacks on their citizens.

PoliticsEdo Guber Poll: Obaseki Asks For Adjournment To Re-strategise by comos(op): 1:43pm On Mar 02, 2017
Benin – Gov. Godwin Obaseki on Thursday requested the Edo Election Tribunal to adjourn till Monday to enable his lawyers re-strategise in his defence.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, are challenging the declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the election.

The petitioners listed INEC, Obaseki and the APC as first, second and third respondents. Ize-Iyamu had since closed his case after calling 91 witnesses and tendered several evidences to prove his case of alleged irregularity in some polling units and wards in the 18 local government areas of the state.

INEC, which also closed its case without calling any witness, said it relied on its sufficient cross examination of the petitioners’ witnesses to prove its defence.

PoliticsAppeal Court Sacks Sunday Aghedo, Edo’s APC Lawmaker by comos(op): 1:33pm On Mar 02, 2017
BENIN – THE Court of Appeal sitting in Benin in a unanimous decision has removed the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker representing Ovia South West Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Sunday Aghedo

The appellate Court declared Mr. Godwin Adenomo also of the APC the winner of the general election into the Ovia South- West constituency of Edo State House of Assembly held on 11, April 2015.

In the judgment delivered by Justice Moore Asiemo Adumein, the appellate court also set aside the part of the judgment of the lower court the primary election conducted by the APC held on the 2, December 2014 for nominating the party’ candidate for the general election held on 11, April 2015 into the Ovia South – West constituency of Edo State House of Assembly.

It also granted additional reliefs soughted by the respondent as contained in paragraphs 16 (b), (c), (d), (e), (f), (h) and (I) granted in the judgment of the trial court as well as that of his reliefs in his further amendment statement of claims filed on 20, November 2015.

The court awarded the sum of N100,000.00 against the appellant.

It would recalled that Mr Godwin Adenomo scored the highest votes cast at the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the nomination of its candidate for Ovia South- West constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly scoring 152 votes against 140 scored by Mr Sunday Aghedo.

His opponent’s name was forwarded as the party’s candidate for the election and the three man appeal panel set up by the party to look into his complaint upheld the decision of the party.

Dissatisfied with the decision of the party’s appeal panel, Adenomo had dragged the APC and the primary election Committee to court over imposition of the sacked lawmaker as the winner of the party primaries to the State House of Assembly in 2014.

He said he won the primaries but was denied the party’s ticket which was given to Aghedo

The Federal High Court sitting in Benin in its judgement ordered the APC to conduct a fresh primary for the position but Adenomo rejected the ruling and headed for the appellate court.

Aghedo not satisfied with the lower court’s judgment which set aside the decision of the party’s appeal panel and also invalidated the primary election conducted on 2, December 2014 and his election held on 11, April 2015, headed to the Appeal court for redress.

Both the plaintiff and 1st defendant in the lower court,Godwin Adenomo and Sunday Aghedo filed separate appeals against the decision of the trial court.

CrimeHunters, Herdsmen May Clash In Oyo Over Missing 500 Cows by comos(op): 9:38am On Feb 20, 2017
A crisis looms at the Oke- Ogun area of Oyo State, except urgent steps are taken to strengthen ties between some Fulani herdsmen and the traditional hunters of the area over about 500 missing cows belonging to the Fulani.

This is as the hunters of the area warned the Fulani herdsmen that they would not tolerate any conduct that may lead to the breakdown of law and order.

The Fulani on their part accused their host communities of exhibiting lackadaisical attitude to their plight. About 500 cows belonging to the itinerant Fulani herdsmen were said to have gone missing recently in the Oke Ogun area of the state, with the owners accusing people of the communities in the area of stealing their live stocks.
