@Onegai and other wonderful mama's, since it is testimony time. Me sef want to testify.
Remember I said I wanted to wean my dd off BF on her birthday?
Well I did o!, following precious mum's advice here. Although that early morning on her birthdate-29th I gave her bf like around 4am when she wasn't fully awake, but I told myself that would be the last time. Though I was en-gored that day, I bought cabbage next day, put in freezer and started using. Anytime she comes close to my bre-ast, I will start telling her that she is a big girl now and big girls don't suck. It's 6days and counting now and I can proudly say we have been weaned. Before I forget, she now wakes up once and I give her water or pap depending on the level of the hunger.
Happy for u o, now is time for 2nd missionary journey.

My boy now rejects every food apart from swallow. As if he knows am planning for him.

Let me also add this. Please be sure you know how to suction it out with your mouth before attempting it.
Don't suction too hard else you might cause more harm than good. Just be swift and gentle.
You can use a mouthwash afterwards.
Yes, suction it d way u suction bone marrow, be gentle as mitchyy said.

Mamas that may want to do hot steaming for their kids, do it without adding anything just the hot water is okay, use bucket instead of bowl, keep the bucket on the ground and turn baby's face towards it, cover both of you with thick towel, to do this easily local sit is advised. Your baby will sweat and the mucus must come out by force, pls use your mouth to suction it out (its your baby, don't get irritated). Do this anytime he sneeze hard with mucus. After the steaming, apply mentholatum on the chest, back, feet, ribs and palm, wear chest cover cloth for him/her.

Do this morning and night, the cattarh will flee away.

I hope I'm not being ungrateful, but in my experience colic is overrated. Everything they say about it just puts fear in your body. The fear is enough to give the child colic self.

Take burping as a very serious task, ensure lo burps after every meal and stay positive.

Sorry for late response, Saturday things. Different insurance company have different plan in their policies. Like Royal Exchange, you can buy any of their policy for your children, the minimum years are 5&6. Going further in the years depend on your age. If you like you can sign for 21years and if you think the years are too much u can get for 5 years, after maturity you can re-save the money again by buying another policy.

These are the plans they have under Prudential Life (1). Heritage plan: minimum of 7k monthly or higher if u can afford it. The minimum year is 5.

(2). Investment plan: minimum of 6 years based on any amount you can afford and you can have access to it every 2 years.

(3) Edu-secure: minimum of 5 years, contribution is based on how much you can afford. You can extend the years if you wish.

There are other plans but these 3 are the main children educational savings account. All the policies have compensation in case anything happen to the policyholder. Certain amount is paid to the beneficiary even if the policyholder has not made full payment before the unforeseen happened.

All the policies above can be logged on to for our personal savings too.

Today hopefully going to be an interesting day and I'd like us all to participate. We all have something to share. Today is Nigeria's Independence and the future of Nigeria is on this thread. And our children are in grave danger and only we can protect them and give them a brighter future. Topics discussed will include Money, Education, Finances, Morality and Volunteering. I wanted to move this to the Family Section but I think Mothers are the ones who will start the change, because a long time ago, a wise uncle told me children get their intelligence from their mothers. If you feel this would be better in Family Section, please let me know.
Let's discuss it here please.

Happy independent to you lovely mamas.

Insurance is good for children, I work with Royal exchange as a marketer (also self employed) and people have started embracing it pretty well. I just opened an account now for my boy for five years and after that will re- invest same money again.

We deposit 7k for him monthly, this plan is called Heritage plan. I do investment plan for myself so that I can I have access to it every 2 years. I have wanted to talk about it here before but I don't want it to be as if am derailing the thread.

So many importance of Iife insurance that are beneficial to us but our Nigerian mentality has spoiled them. People now embrace it in my area and they are appreciating me for Introducing them to it, as they pay every month, they are getting their alert and I have people that their money have matured and they have withdrew it and re-invest again. All because of their children.

Family expenses can never end but only what you save for your children is their reward from you.

Anyone interested can contact me.

Also, if you are to buy any insurance policy make sure you do it with reputable company not the ones that cannot pay. Check their profile and capital base.

Am ready to answer any further questions.

Good morning Mamas.... by the grace of God almighty, i would become one of you.... very soon.... b4 30days as I want to port.
i have a serious concern "colic"
I cry imagining my little one in pains 4 4months.
So i saw a place a mama said she was advised to give her baby coconut milk as the first thing after birth to prevent colic....
I sure will make it myself n make it vry hygenic but my issue is, has any one used it or heard of where it is been usedhuh

If yes, please throw more light.
Gracias
I don't know about the coconut idea, but massaging helps my baby. MIL massaged the tummy after the cort fell off.

Wishing you safe delivery.

Liftedhands , hotmum , temmy2103 , Onegai , mitchyy ,

thank you for your response. We went to Dr. Abimbola Awoliyi Memorial Hospital on Bamgbose street in Lagos, they have the phototherapy lamp and baby was clean after almost 48hrs.

What do you feel about giving the baby (less than 2 weeks old) multivitamin? A cousin of mine bought Abidec yesterday, I insisted baby won't take it until I confirm. Also what happens to the baby's navel and will she fee pains there? Doctors told us to keep cleaning with spirit like we were doing before it fell off but my MIL keeps massaging it with hot (at times warm) towel to my displeasure.
Now she's got "agbo" for what she calls "oka" but looking at the baby's head there's nothing of such, I'm just tired.
Baby got no issues as far as I see, she only cries when hungry and when she needs to belch.

Opinions please
That massaging is okay to prevent colic/restlessness. But stop any orthodox application on the head and don't allow anybody to give your baby agbo.

My MIL even bought this tailor oil and said that's what mothers now use for the soft spot, I told her not to use anything on my baby that my baby is okay, this is the baby I ve been taking care of before she came, she was angry that I don't give him medication and I told her my baby is not sick. She wanted to give him agbo and I told his son that nobody should give my baby anything to drink if they don't want wahala. After telling her not to massage d my baby Pen.., she wanted to if not my sister that called my attention.

Pls whatever you don't want tell hour hubby to tell his mum and stand your ground, things have changed from their time.

Be polite on ur approach but stand your ground.

I use to enjoy itoo at ist truth be told but its no more funny,'ve had it up to here,a lot of ppl will laugh but its becoming frustrating, when things are overdone it can cause problems.everybody said with time he'll stop or get tired but it gets worse each passing day.
it is my hubby who can't stay one hour without cleaning things, today alone the house has been mobbed thrice and swept four times of course by himself, the most annoying is that every activity has to be halted while work is in progress.i mean this cleaning goes on at all times even during sex.
I'm not a dirty person and never will be,intact my friends always complimented in that area but when you have someone who overdoes it,I get tired.
even my 1 Yr old is not allowed to play too much,I just suggested this afternoon that he buys us flying carpets so we fly around the house.
I have watched videos of ppl with OCD but ain't convinced.
is this OCD or normal over cleanliness because the nagging is getting to me.right now in my house even if you wantvto eat garden egg ,he'd gladly get you a large tray so that even one seed doesn't touch the floor
A beg I no fit laugh o.

My hubby was once like that but his own is cooking, mehn that thing can be annoying. If am cooking my food jeje, he will b asking if I have put maggi, salt, how many cube of maggi, how did I slice d onions. One day I just left the kitchen and allow d food to get burnt, he asked me why and I told him that he is the one in charge of the kitchen not me, that I can no longer tolerate him, I told him I have been cooking for my family members before I met him, that was how he stopped.

Thank you Ma.
In another news, I intend weaning her today, but don't know how to go about it as BM is her "midnight snack". Though I have been telling her she would stop BM today, but she still took early this morning. Please help!
My sis, I'm still thinking of how I will do it o, though I want to wean him when he is exactly 15months, but how to go about it is my concern cos he likes sucking as if his life depends on it. He just developed one habit now, he knows that after taking his growing up milk as the last food at nite, no more breastfeeding, the guy dey reject milk for nite now o but can take it anytime in the day.
