In 2001, ASUU asked the Federal Government to devote some amount of dollars per barrel (I think it was 9 cents or 90 cents; i'm not so sure of the figure again) of crude oil to funding of universities. The government rejected it. If I can, I will get a full text of the negotiations on the 2001 agreement that the government has refused to implement (which is why the present strike is on) and publish it here for the world to see.

how will OBJ & Atiku implement such a measure? when they bith had plan to scr*w up the tertiary education system ,so they can have their own universities (OBJ-Bells Uni ,Atiku-ABTI)

one of my wife's friends, who has been self employed for the past four years or so, decided to get a job. the lady is a lawyer. anyway, she got an interview with a top law firm based in VI. she has always adhered to the wearing of hijab .a lot of professional environments subtly discourage the use of hijab etal. before the interview, like you she agonized over wheter she would simply wear a sock cap(that would cover her hair only) , or a hijab that would cover her face and neck. eventually she decided to do go there with the hijab. and today she has the job.

Good example,but I have quite a number of examples of people who took similar decisions & later regretted.We shouldn't always cite one side & make it seem like the norm.Your example would happen in less than 10% of such cases. Everyone hoping to work in the corporate world needs to conform to corporate values including dressing etc,this doesn't have anything to do with one's faith in God or path to heaven.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar said on Saturday in Zaria that successive Nigerian governments since 1970 have not given education the attention it deserves.
The former vice president, who spoke at a re-union ceremony and launch of a publication, “Who’s Who in the Faculty,” organised by the Faculty of Law, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, said Nigeria needs governments “that understand the role of education” to be able to correct the negative consequences of the serial neglect of the critical sector.
He said, “In the 1970s, our expansionary government took on more and more of the responsibility of providing education at all three levels. But as government revenues declined it became increasingly difficult for government alone to meet those obligations. And education has not always been given the priority that it deserves by succeeding governments.
“The result is that today, we have decaying infrastructure in our public schools, increasingly inadequate qualified teachers and school administrators, low morale among teachers and students, the menace of cultism and other vices, and increasingly low regard by organisations and agencies here and abroad for the certificates awarded by our public schools.”
According to Atiku, “In order to rectify these, we need governments that understand the role of education in national development and have the skills and political will to prioritise education and make the necessary investments in that sector.
“We also need a principled reversal to the era of shared responsibility for education. Clearly, government cannot and need not do it alone, even when education is given the topmost priority. Partnerships with private individuals and organisations are critical. And people need choice and the healthy competition inherent in a mixed system.”
