The issue of Gitmo is complex and should not lend to simplistic characterisations.

The fact is that I see myself as 'right of centre' when it comes to such matters. however way you look at it,the gross incompetence of GWB surfaces.

Every single national/international law has been broken.

Help me with the following:
Where did the 'crimes' committed by Gitmo detainees take place?

Are these civil crimes or war crimes?

If civil which countries legal system(& courts) should be used considering these aren't stateless people?

If war crimes,the 3rd Geneva Convention(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_Geneva_Convention) is the prevailing International Law,is this being followed to the letter?

The location of Gitmo is also strange,which country is it really in?

And finally can you necessarily apply US civil law on non-US soil?

I reiterate,GWB had a good cause,everything should have ended with the collapse of the Taliban in Afghanistan,wipred out Osama in Tora Bora possibly with Nuclear Bomb( just jokinggrin grin). All these would have deterred Saddam & Iran. So GROSS INCOMPETENCE/ARROGANCE got him there.

And I see you also stated that nobody(even Obama) has a solution to Gitmo? that does not mean creating Gitmo in the first place made any sense.

On the issue of Israel,I cannot fault most of your positions becaue they are all(Israel & Arabs except Egypt) still technically in a state of War,so rational points of view may not necessarily apply !

I am a muslim from the south and when you say "Christian South" i find it wrong. The western media keeps saying this phrase as well. Yes if you said Christian South east or south south but not the South West. The youbas have at least 18 million muslims from the 30 million Yoruba nation. Oyo state is strongly muslim, Ogun state as well with Ijebu ode, Egba, Yewa All having strong muslims enclaves dating back to the 19 century and before the missionaries came in. In Osun state there is hardly anyone originally from Oshogbo that is not muslim not to talk of Ede, Ife and Ilesha though have a large Christian population. Ekiti state I can say has a larger Christian population with Ondo state as well but Akure still has a strong muslim population. In Lagos where I am from the core indegines of Lagos in Isale eko are predominantly muslims and Islams presence dates back before the missionaries came in.

Going back to the Arewa republic, Would Kwara, Benue, Taraba , Kogi and Plateau be part of this republic?

If Nigeria breaks would Cross River and Akwa Ibom be part of Biafra? Or they would go with south south (No name yet for niger delta republic)

If the Niger Deltans go would Edo state be part of this? The Niger Delta is also filled with ethnic rivalries between Ijaw, Urhobo, Istekiri . Not forgetting the war in Delta state between tribes because of local government.

The Odua might just be only homogenous republic out of this break up because Yoruba nation is one ethnicity and possibly Biafra if it is just the Igbo people.

Honestly I believe in One Nigeria but with a decentralised system of govt. The Center should be made weak and governance rested on states or regions. A larger nation is a potentially stronger nation and India and China are rising powers due to their population. Nigeria as it is not working because true federalism is not practised. The south south has been underdeveloped but the south south should look inwards to the insensitivity of their leaders. The north acknowledges the fact that their leaders have failed them and the sooner the Niger Deltans accepts this reality the better.

Breaking up on ethnic differences is not a solution as the North orth would still face ethnic problems so as Niger delta. The Yoruba would also face tribal problem. The sooner we learn to live and manage our diversity the better.

For Nigeria to work well though true federalism or Unitary system of governance has to be adopted

Tornadoz,I don't think we should go back to who forced what on people,Nigeria as we all agree was probably forced on us all & this applies to most countries(or how can you explain white South Africans & Zimbabweans? huh huh grin).

The burning question should be ,the way forward:How can the Israelis(remember almost 20% of Israelis are Arabs) live side by side with its neighbours?

The problem though has clearly religious undertones, is largely political.

My 'friend',I'm glad we can discuss issues now- 'giving' land (I guess you're referring to the creation of the State of Israel in 1948)isn't entirely new, especially within the context of the middle east. As a matter of fact the nations of Jordan,Syria etc were essentially carved out of the large chunk of desert land called the middle East.

We don't need to go too far in history to know that more than half of all countries in the world currently, never existed about a century ago,& we're still having new ones(Kosovo,South Ossetia,Abkhazia etc).

Having said that I really don't agree with the Israeli occupation of the Gaza +West Bank,but all these came about as a result of the  Arab-Israeli wars. It goes without saying that if the Arabs hadn't attacked probably the Golan(Syria),Sinai(now back with Egypt), West Bank(originally part of Jordan) would be with their rightful Arab owners now.

The cross-dressing governor of Bayelsa is Ijaw yet he damn well milked his own state. Give me a break. Where are their own traditional leaders?

Lets be real. If you put a Tiv man or Ijaw man in the same position of power there is no guarantee that he will be better. Being a minority in any country does not make u holier and free of corruption in any country. When Ijaw were in control of Rivers State things were not rosy in Rivers. In Bayelsa it still ain't rosy. Corruption is in every ethnic group Igbos, Efiks, Yorubas, Hausas, Ijaw, Berom but by the end of the day it all varies. One group can be worse than the other and can cause more problems for others.  Anyways the gworo eating cattle herders gotta go and it will only happen when we the younger generation in the South and Middle belt change our mentality towards them. (which yes I'm glad is happening) The idea that some gworo eating disease poverty stricken Hausa- Fulani is too powerful to check is rubbish. U only make em more powerful when u give em the chance to do as they like. If people like Azikiwe, Awolowo, etc were not so quick to appease the North whenever they misbehaved before Independence we won't be having these problems. To me the Hausa man is like a spoilt little brat who thinks he is entitled to any and everything. Until we let em know that you have to earn it we will have no peace.

I've been impressed with OGD ever since he took Osoba head on & everyone agrees his 1st term was about the best across the country(I need not go into details).

I've been out of naija for some months now & its possible I may be commenting based on his past glory,but the guy definitely surpassed my expectations 2003-2007& I'm sure he has what it takes to take it even futher.

A good number of the roads that Lagos,Ogun work on are Federal roads,they then get mostly partial compensation from Big brother.

Tinubu took this problem to another level with his political sign boards announcing 'This Road is a Federal Road,being repaired by Lagos State,please bear with us'.  grin
