It’s no longer Z1, that’s old fluid, it’s now ATF-DW1 and fakes abound in the market.

Contact luvinhubby here for original cans. You will need 5 Liters for a change.

I am recently having same issue with my Honda pilot...when changing from gear 1 to 2, it suddenly jerks as it was being rammed into ...and I noticed d movement was heavy only for me to see d D light blinking. So I took it to my mechanic to check with computer and it came out with P70 code ..can't remember the exact code but from d error code...it said d gear oil is either light or needs to be changed.

Hope you’ve changed it already with the correct type recommended.

Really ? It's one part that is bent o...not both rear wheels.

Change all your knuckle bushings on that side. Some are bad.

Change out the knuckles themselves with tokumbo or new replacements if you can.

Thank you so much. I don't have any shifting issues, car shifts up and down fine.. There's just this occasion high rev when it wants to shift sometimes.

2 months AGO, I replaced the dirty fluid with total MVLV.

At the bolded, is there a specific gear change sequence that this issue usually occurs? Like during the 1 - 2, 2 - 3 change etc? Any malfunction codes?

Total fluid is okay as a temporary replacement for dw1. Did your Mech remember to service/clean the oil pickup screens in your transmission solenoids at the same time while changing the oil?

Additionally, there's a thumping sound coming from the engine bay when the car shifts gears at slow speeds, especially in traffic. Despite replacing the rear engine mount, the issue persists. However, the gear shifting itself seems fine.

As a bonus question, I'd like to know why my car revs high before shifting gears and sometimes lurches forward during the gear change.

The thumping sound is from a bad mount while the shifting issues arose as a result of dirty or low transmission fluid.

The below screenshot is the mount below the battery. The rubber looks damaged. Can this cause the spontaneous thudding sound when shifting gear?

Yea. That’s your top transmission mount. If it’s damaged your gearbox will be experiencing movements and plays while functioning. You should replace it.

I don't think so. From what I read at the time, the ECT sensor uses the temperature of the coolant to control the temperature guage. Does it not then mean that if there's a rapid loss of coolant, the ECT sensor has nothing to work with.

Yes it uses the temperature of the coolant to work BUT if there’s no coolant at all in your radiator it will still pull its data from the walls of your engine block and display its correct temperature.

But as I said, this is the usual way Honda designed its cooling system. I can’t say the same for other brands

I experienced it with a J series engine twice. One time I forgot to cover the radiator cap and the other time the radiator got damaged.

Are you sure your ect sensor wasn’t already on its last legs at the time? Because the other regular Hondas I know usually react to even the slightest rise in temperature on its guage in real-time.

I use a 5w-20 Mobil 1 high mileage engine oil since 2020 on my 08 Honda crv. I'm about to switch to Amtecol 9000 5w-30 Full synthetic. Cos I heard 5w-30 is good for our climate. And I notice when I travel long distances from Lagos to the east, my engine oil drops significantly. Engine still runs fine. Will 5w-30 Amtecol 9000 full synthetic be a good alternative?

Your engine is a k24, it’s a 4cyl high revving engine and once taken on a road trip it’s rev count usually stays at the higher mark so it’s perfectly normal to experience some oil loss after a long journey of several hours steady cruising.

Where there is a problem is if you lose more than half a liter after a trip of approximately 500 kilometers. Then you might have a case of a bad pcv valve, oil leaks, worn out valves in your cylinder head or slacked oil control rings on your pistons.

Just top up your oil and keep cruising if you’re experiencing no other issues with your vehicle. If you still wish to change oil on your next service you can switch brands but please don’t switch its weight.

Wrong. Your engine can overheat without your temperature gauge moving an inch if you experience rapid coolant loss.

This scenario is more rampant in Toyota vehicles

No business is risk free or easy in this world.

If I remember correctly this thread wasn’t created to distract drivers or discourage newbies instead it was created and designed to help everyone involved to grow in the hustle.

If you feel this business is a waste of time and investment then please do the rest of us hard working folks a nice favor by exiting the thread and staying away for good. Nobody likes to come in here and read from you guys who feel that the business isn’t profitable to anybody because it wasn’t profitable for you.

Are you suggesting I change the radiator cap first

Before you change anything you’re supposed to check the entire cooling system components individually.

The radiator itself or its cover could be faulty same as your pipes/hoses which might have also degraded at some points or have subtle leaks at one of its numerous clips/joints.

Do the easy things first. Check along the body of the various coolant hoses for cracks, the various clips/fasteners to see if they have sheared into the rubber pipes/hoses and if all those are fine then you can move your attention towards the radiator cap and the radiator itself.

Catalyst is strictly for emission’s purposes in those years of accords. Driving without a catalyst should not cause any issues for you so far that’s the only thing missing.

The iacv is the electronic device attached to your throttle body that controls the engine idle rpm’s both with and without load

The harness is the bundle of wires that are mostly joined together and running upandan from one component to another in your engine bay.

Then he tweaked something that dropped the rpm to 500 because he said the engine was high. Do you think any of these issues is as a direct result of this?

That thing your mechanic tweaked was your throttle body. There are three ways he might have messed up it’s settings with his ‘tweak’

1. He opened up the rubber intake hose (engine air filter to throttle body) and jammed the little hole in there that supplies the iacv air with something

2. He has tampered with the ‘screw’ on your throttle body by adjusting it with a screwdriver (in which case you will need a multimeter to reset it)

You should go back to your mechanic and push him to tell you exactly what he did to your throttle body so you can know how to revert it or if to purchase a new one.

OR

3. He has damaged the wiring on your harness that runs from the iacv to your brainbox (an electrician has to check this one out)

Thanks bro. The engine light had been on though it was because oil was low. I topped it and the light disappeared.

There’s an oil pressure light (red) and a check engine light (yellow), which of them did you say was on and later went off?

Good day Honda users. I'm using a 2008 Honda Accord for almost 2 years now and the car is burning oil despite using the recommended oil weight which is 5w-20. My question is this. Is there anyone here using the same car and having the same problem that has been able to solve this problem,if yes,then how? My other question is can I keep using the car like that and changing the oil at 3000miles when the maintenance light usually comes up?

From 2008 till this year is 15 years. If your vehicle is now burning the factory recommended 5w20 oil weight and you’re sure that your pcv valve is still good then you have two options:

1. Overhaul the engine by replacing its each of its pistons’ oil control rings

2. Switch to a heavier weight of oil (5w30 - 5w40) and observe how much it burns from there on and continue managing the engine.

Good day OP please help!!

The under of my Accord 05 was always wet, so I went to change oil seal yesterday. Asides this, I was driving ok. Although it was smoking a little, not too noticeable.

After the mechanic was done changing the seal, there was a loud screeching sound coming from the alternator axis. After a while it stopped, the guy then said my engine was too high. He did some adjustments.

Now, the rpm is less than 1000, it's at 500. The car is vibrating and jerking as if it wants to stop. In fact on the way home, the car went off.

It is now smoking heavily!!! Thick black smoke coming out. The silencer area is now black with soot. I notice the exhaust is coming out with a lot of force now even when in P.

And worse, it guzzled the entire fuel. To illustrate, it took N2,000 fuel from Egbeda to Mangoro!!!

Somebody please help with knowledgeable suggestions I'm distressed right now. I mean, nothing serious was wrong with the car, I only went for oil seal change!

If you have a check engine light illuminated on your dashboard then I believe it’s time you scanned that vehicle before throwing any more parts at it.

There has been no issue of overheating even when I notice that there's no water in the radiator. There's no visible leakage from the radiator nor radiator cap, pleasE what could be wrong

At the bolded statement above, When you say the coolant dries off in your radiator did you mean the radiator itself or its coolant overflow container?

As you’ve ruled out any possibility of an overheated engine I won’t query the integrity of your gaskets but If your radiator cap is bad and leaking you won’t observe any visible wetness around it because the coolant will immediately vaporize as soon as it leaves the container due to the intense heat in your engine. Same with if you have a tiny leak along one of the fins of your radiator itself.

I have driven interstate transportation vehicles for some years myself and know that if I change the engine oil in a town only driven sienna and interstate only driven sienna at the same time with the same oils that the town driven one will get black/darker quicker than the interstate driven one.

That’s just concerning the engine internals alone oh, now start to check the other systems of the vehicle. It’s like he doesn’t understand what the term ‘severe service’ means in his vehicles’ car manual.
