Congrats consultant that was a touching story. May your daughter bring u endless joy and peace. The parrt of the story I had problems with was the handpoking( fist poking) into the u no where, which one be that one again. Altho a friend told me the same thing I thot it was just Nigerian doctors trying to be funny now this. Me I go rake when my time come o. Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaah just kidding but its a bit unsettling I can't seem to get past it. Congrats once again, wish u all the best in your future births.
Ronkus,

Don't worry. Just pray that your baby comes out in good time. As long as you are not induced, there will be no fist poking whatsoever cheesy.

@ Seun, my little girl is doing awesome, thanks. She is now 1 yr and 3 months, with 6 teeth and she can't stop walking up and down the house or talking. Her favorite word is mummy (which in her mind, I think means - I want that, NOW!), Having her has been a joy, I think I am just about ready to try again, so look for a sequel wink.

InvestmentRe: Union Bank Shares by Consultant(f): 2:28pm On Mar 25, 2007
You may want to wait a bit to dispose of those shares - that is unless you are basing your decision on additional insight about the company, and not just share price. When I bought Oceanic in 2004, I had the same reservations. In fact, the price fell below IPO level for a while. It took at least a year for it to start rising and now, the shares I bought for 6.30 are worth over N19.

Please why the rudeness from some of the responders on this thread? When an Igbo man marries an American, should he not have limited expectations about her ability to cook Ugwu? Please, if you have good advice give it - politely, otherwise angry
CareerRe: I Want To Do My Internship Abroad by Consultant(f): 2:13pm On Mar 25, 2007
By Internship, I am assuming you mean your residency right?  The process in the US is time consuming and expensive, requiring you to take about four exams and then send in applications to tons of schools (seriously, I have a friend who applied to about 50 schools) because the method of placing students in schools is really convoluted. These websites will provide you more information. All the best.

PoliticsRe: Should Nigeria Adopt The Jury System? by Consultant(f): 12:23am On Mar 11, 2007
I don't see the jury system as it operates in the US working in Nigeria. The jury system requires people to be educated sufficiently about the law to make a determination of guilt or innocence based on the merits of a case. Moreover, juries are selected randomly from the voter's register. Can you picture an illiterate 'boli' seller from the village being placed on a jury and asked to decide complex legal issues? Not to denegrate uneducated people but, if we want to be honest, it would be a difficult task. In this day and age in Nigeria, I don't think a jury system is practical.
HealthRe: How To Experience Pregnancy Without Sickness by Consultant(f): 6:37pm On Mar 08, 2007
I had a very bad case of morning sickness during my pregnancy and non of the usual remedies worked for me. If you have a boss that is understanding, you may want to consider confiding in him/her early. For instance, my sister worked in a bank when she was pregnant and she was in the same position as you - she joined the bank after she got pregnant so she wasn't confirmed yet. Her boss put her in the bulk room to count cash until she had her baby. True it's not the most pleasant of jobs but she could sit down for the better part of the day, and more importantly she was out of sight of most workers and customers of the bank so she could drool as much as she wanted without putting anybody off.

If you don't have a boss who would make allowances for you, then try and get as much sleep as possible in the night, and take multivitamins with iron in it to keep up your energy level, and as someone has said, consult a doctor.
HealthRe: How Obasanjo And The Striking Doctors Killed My Friend! by Consultant(f): 2:29pm On Mar 06, 2007
The solution is simple: privatize all the government hospitals.  Private doctors never go on a collective strike.
Unfortunately Seun, the solution is not that simple. To maintain the kind of equipment, plus pay the type of surgeons in government hospitals now, a private hospital would have to charge millions of naira. I have no doubt that he may have survived if he had been taken to an EKO hospital or another of the top private hospitals but could the family have afforded it? You may be surprised to find that even in the US with all its riches, people still die because they cannot afford healthcare.

What we need is a way to ensure that everyone has access to a decent level of healthcare regardless of financial status - a problem that the US has been grappling with for years - and believe me there is no easy solution to that.

My sincere condolences to the family - it is indeed a sad story.

FamilyRe: Why Do Singles In the U.S/U.K Still Prefers To Go And Marry From Naija by Consultant(f): 7:51pm On Feb 12, 2007
@ Promise,

Before your thread gets out of hand, here is some sincere advice for you. It doesn't matter where you get the woman from. There are good and bad women everywhere in the world. What you need is guidance from God, and then wherever you decide, take time to study a woman and get to know her well before you get married.

If you go to Nigeria, don't spend two weeks there, sample women like fish in the market and then pick one - that will just land you in trouble. I would suggest a courtship of at least six months when both of you are in the same location. If it is practical for you to do that in Nigeria, then i'd say fine, if not stay where you are and ask God to provide a good wife for you.

EducationRe: F1 Student Visa by Consultant(f): 2:25am On Feb 10, 2007
All those documents are good and are definitely important. I think though that documents are primarily used to confirm that you have admission, and that you can pay for your education without having to work in the US.

In my experience, I believe their method of assessing your likelihood of returning is based more on psychology than on any documents you may or may not produce. What i mean by that is that they measure what i call your 'desperation factor'. If you have a good job in Nigeria, appear to be somewhat affluent (or at least comfortable) and intelligent, then they judge you as not being desperate to emigrate because they feel you can get a good job in Nigeria and fend for yourself, if you have to.

If you don't have a job (or don't have a good job), can't clearly express yourself during the interview to explain how you will apply your degree to a career in Nigeria afterwards, have never travelled out of the country and returned, then your desperation factor goes up, and so does the likelihood that you will be refused the visa.

Most importantly though, I would say pray and trust God. Ultimately it still depends on who interviews you so pray to get the right consular officer.

Anyone with personal experience?
My brother and sister traveled to Nigeria on Virgin Atlantic. The leg from US to the UK was fantastic. Big plane, good service from the flight attendants, etc. On the leg from the UK to Nigeria, the flight attendants were rude, the plane was small and cramped and they didn't have ample space for hand luggage. There was also an incident a while ago of an airline (i'm not sure which one) spraying RAID after passengers were on board.

If that wedding hasn't taken place yet, he might need to reconsider shocked.

Seriously though, for a husband and wife to successfully operate a join account there has to be constant and open communication, they must have joint financial goals that they have DISCUSSED and AGREED and they must both be TRUSTWORTHY. I'd say this couple needs to have some serious discussions about money to make sure that having a joint account is the right thing for them.

As for what to do right now? He should sell anything sellable out of all that she has bought and pay back his friend.

Education22 Year-old Nigerian Bags Ph.d In Uk Varsity by Consultant(op): 4:22pm On Jan 05, 2007
http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=67065

At a time when many his age would thank their stars for being able to acquire a first degree and some dare to acquire a second one instead of looking for a job, Dr. Nkem Karl Omebere-Iyari has distinguished himself as an exceptionally gifted Nigerian. At the recent Graduation Ceremonies of the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom, Omebere-Iyari who turns 23 on the 16th of this month, bagged a Ph.D in Chemical Engineering. The degree had been completed in a record time of 36 months, straight from his first degree and with a EU Grant of £17, 000 per year for the three years.
Those who know his antecedents would not have expected anything less. The son of the Central Bank's Deputy Director, Banking Operations, Mr. James Omebere Iyari had graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Chemical Engineering at the age of 19 in 2003. He was the best graduating student in Chemical Engineering that year. Before then, he had attended the Oxbridge Tutorial College, Ikeja, Lagos, where he sat for the Cambridge Advanced Level examinations in Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry at the age of 16 in 2000, scoring A in all three. Yet before then, he had attempted the Cambridge GCE ‘O’ level examination, at the age of 14, in June 1998 and got six credits. At the end of his Senior Secondary education at the King's College, Lagos, Omebere-Iyari, then 16 had eight As, including five A1s. Ironically, he never got his UME scores. The results of the examination, which he wrote at a centre in Epe, Lagos were cancelled along with others in that centre. His father, who also had a Second Class Upper Division in Business Administration from the University of Benin, said at the weekend that, since his son did well in the Cambridge ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels, as well as the SAT and TOEFL, where he scored over 80 and 90 percent respectively, the family decided that he should go to the UK.
The first of three sons, the native of Owanta in the Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State had won many academic laurels from his primary school days at the CBN Primary School, Satellite Town, Lagos. He did his internship with Procter and Gamble, Brussels, Belgium in 2002. Through a European Union funding, he was also at SINTEF Laboratory, one of the world’s leading Flow facilities at Trondheim, Norway in 2004; and German Nuclear Research Centre at Dresden, last year. Omebere-Iyari has participated in several seminars and workshops in the UK and Europe, while his articles in Chemical Engineering have been published in International Journals. He currently works as Process Engineer/Consultant at KBR Company, a subsidiary of Haliburton Group at Leatherhead, UK.
Should Omebere-Iyari not come home to contribute his knowledge and skills to the development of the country? He could not be reached to answer this question, but his father said, "He is a very patriotic Nigerian and is interested in the development of the country. But he wants to get further international experience before coming back home."
Iyari, who also holds a Diploma in Petroleum Refining Technology could not imagine what would have been his son’s lot if he had remained here. ìRight from his first year in the university, all his designs were computer based. We should try and develop the education sector in the country so that our youths can realise their full potentials. Whether in the Arts, Social Science or the Sciences, our school libraries and laboratories should be well-equipped. Computers should be made available to the students.’ He sees his son as an inspiration to his peers, that they can achieve whatever goals they set for themselves as long as they remain focussed and work hard.
The proud mother, Pastor Kikanwa Omebere-Iyari, who is also a business woman and farmer, said, ìHe has made us proud and I tell him it to his face. For him to be so God-fearing and well-behaved even when I was not there, young as he was, I thank God.”
Mr. Iyari said their other children are high fliers too. The second son is a Part Two Student of Economics at the Dakar Campus of the Suffolk University, Boston, USA, while the last, a Science Student, is in his final year in secondary school.
TravelMaltreatment: Fg Warns Virgin Atlantic, British Airways by Consultant(op): 4:13pm On Jan 05, 2007
God bless the minister for this. It is about time we make these airlines realize that Nigerians deserve to be treated with as much respect as the British or Americans, afterall they charge Africans more to fly than they charge anywhere else in the world. See below for story.

The Federal Government has warned Virgin Atlantic and British Airways for treating Nigerians on board their flights with contempt.
A statement from the office of the Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, states that the two airlines have been treating Nigerians with the “utmost contempt” when they are checking in and airborne.
It further explained that the minister had formally warned one of the airlines in the past over disgraceful treatment they meted out to some Nigerian passengers when the airlines were petitioned.
Fani-Kayode therefore warned the two airline operators that major sanctions would be meted to them should another complaint of maltreatment is reported to his office.
“Let it be understood clearly by all and sundry that Nigerians are not second class citizens and the Minister would not sit by and allow our people to be treated like animals by anybody or for any reason “.
He also advised that henceforth both carriers should offer better training and far more discipline to both their ground and air staff and encourage them to treat Nigerians with respect and decency just as they do to non-Nigerians.
In another development, Fani-Kayode also Approved, with immediate effect, the appointment of Mr. Akin Olukunle and Mr Supo Atobatole as General Managers (GM) Public Affairs for Federal Aviation Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) respectively.

Definitions of "Date" according to dictionary.com

"A social appointment, engagement, or occasion arranged beforehand with another person: to go out on a date on Saturday night".

"A person with whom one has such a social appointment or engagement: Can I bring a date to the party?"

"To go out socially on dates: She dated a lot during high school".

"An engagement to go out socially with another person, often out of romantic interest".

Which of these definitions translates to dancing around the devil?

Question:
(1) How many generations "actually" existed from "David up to carrying away into Babylon";
(2) Which peoples were missing from Matthew's account of the geneaology of Christ??
(3) What "actually" is the purpose of this geneaology of Jesus as given by Matthew?
Enjoy!!!
(1) I think there were actually 17 generations
(2) Between Joram and Uzziah in Matt 1:8, 3 kings were ommited - Ahaziah, Joash and Amaziah.
(3) I can't say i know the answer to that one.

Now when i see him in far-fetched roles in movies, acting as a university student or a love striken suitor, it feels like i am watching an old man trying to recapture his youth. He needs to look for parts that are better suited to his age now. He is old enough to be a grandfather ke!
Christianity EtcRe: Why Is Christian Dating So Difficult? by Consultant(f): 11:04pm On Jan 01, 2007
@ Cabali,

This thread is about why christian dating is so difficult. How would you know the answer to that if you are not a christian? You don't have to have an opinion about everything you know.

Anyway, if you had taken time to read the whole post before sounding off on your opinions (which i repeat, is of no value to me because i don't see you as qualified to tell me your opinion on this matter), then you would know how i feel about dating. See my previous post below:

Dating: This is slightly more serious than going out, but again is a trial and error method of finding a life partner. The basic principle of dating is that you find the right "one" by trying out a number of relationships to see which one fits best, kind of like pressing all the loaves of bread in a supermarket aisle in order to pick out the freshest one. Again for christians, i would say no to this. Why? See below.
Now back to why i favor courtship over dating. First, dating by nature, encourages trial and error. It's message is, "if it doesn't work, just move on". Unfortunately, emotionally, its not that easy to just pack your bags and move in and out of relationships. It is hurtful and very painful for the parties invloved.

I also think dating psychologically prepares people for divorce. Once you get used to packing up and moving on once there is a problem in a relationship, then it becomes that much easier to do it after marriage.

My third reason is practical. If you are a christian, who firmly holds on to the Bible's admonition to avoid sex before marriage, then you have no business dating. Sexual abstinence is not the easiest thing in the world. An 18 year old christian, who is not ready for marriage but starts to date is much more likely to have premarital sex than someone who waits till they are nearing the age of marriage - say 21 or 22 and then prayerfully and carefully enters into a relationship with the intention of marrying this person - if all works out well. Then you have a clear purpose, and both persons in the relationship are working towards a similar goal, and the courtship is just long enough to know each other well, but not so long that the pressures of abstinence become too much to bear.

Clearly from my previous posts, i do not support the doctrine of some churches that do not allow courting members to have private time to get to know each other well. Going out together, spending time discovering each other's likes and dislikes, hopes and dreams, and goals in life (outside of the pastor or elder's gaze) are all important parts of the courting process. Marriage is both spiritual and physical, therefore finding a life partner should also be done by using both your spiritual and physical senses.
