Kog45: Oga cool,Segun Odegbami 47 games 22 goals has better record and do not forget Emma Amuneke 27 games 9 goals but notwithstanding Victor Moses remains the best Nigeria winger of recent times and really surprising seeing our wingers lacking basic. When looking at stats, I'm always wary of Wikipedia, because it can be edited. From a more reputable source(TM), Emmanuel Amunike played 39 games and scored just 8 goals. Nevertheless, I'm glad you compared him(Victor Moses) with people most Nigerians would consider as legends of Nigerian football and not Simon or Chukwueze. |

daveP: What I'm pissed at most in his post is he saying Mikel and Onazi helped him majorly. Maybe he didn't watch VicMo. That guy will singlehandedly run from defence and do wonders, MOSTLY by himself, influencing game outcomes with his intelligence. These current ones can't lace his boots till 20whatever. Unless the improve by far. Even Victor Moses' biggest critics know the truth. They can't argue about his performance especially when he played as a winger. Whenever I saw that guy in the starting lineup for the Eagles, my mind would immediately be at rest. He could single handedly change any game. Whenever he got on the ball, you knew something exciting was gonna happen. He knew when to dribble, when to pass, when to shoot, when to fall down in the box and roll twenty times just to get a penalty , and he also knew when to cross. THE BASICS!!!. That's something that majority of our current wingers lack. Just look at the games against Cameroon and Algeria. Look at how he embarrassed their defenders. The closest thing we have right now to a Victor Moses is Ademola Lookman, but he's yet to live up to it in the National team colours. |

Meliforme: Victor Moses boots belongs to Victor Moses, they don't need to fill it. Victor Moses boots might be too tight or oversize.
For the roles these players do for club and country, they do it better than what Victor offers.
For the reckoning, They aforementioned players have more speed and movement, finishing, dribbling skills and creativity.
Do not also forget that Victor Moses abilities in S.E were accentuated more by the presence of Onazi and Mikel in midfield. Victor Moses has a record of 12 goals and 5 assists in just 37 games for Nigeria. For a winger, that's an impressive record. Show me a Nigerian winger that has a better record. And please, did you really compare Victor Moses' style of play and his creativity with the likes of Moses Simon and Chukwueze? 😳😳 Chai, what won't I read on this thread?🤣🤦🏽♂️🤣🤦🏽♂️ |

TheSuperNerd: Who told you Messi hasn't shouted before? And so because Modric hardly talks, that is the leadership style that must be followed?
Leadership is done in different ways and not in the way that you want to box it into.
And bringing up Simon is funny. Same guy who frustrates even you and many fans in several games? He even missed one of the best 2 chances in Abuja. Why does he get to talk? 😂😂😂😂
The point remains that Osimhen has literally been the saviour of this team times without number and always gives his best. Always. So he has every right to demand more of his teammates. Simple.
And stop painting the false narrative that Osimhen does this "shouting" everytime. It is misleading.
And making mistakes like the 2 big chances he missed today which I literally already referenced doesn't make him any less of a leader and the biggest gun we have today in the Super Eagles. Lol, now this conversation is over-stretching and I'm feeling sleepy already but I'll say this: If you say Osimhen has every right as a result of his past performances despite his current poor form over the past two matches or so, to criticize his teammates, then Moses Simon AS THE CAPTAIN of the team also has EVERY right to criticize Osimhen for missing chance after chance after chance. It's only logical. Moses Simon even has more say than him in the team. Concerning your 2nd to last paragraph, it is not a narrative, it's a fact that is glaring for all to see. As a matter of fact, he's becoming quite notorious for it 😄. People may dismiss it and love to term it as a trait of a passionate player but I'm calling it out for it's disruptive tendencies, especially when you look at it from the standpoint of a teammate and how it could affect the team negatively. But like the popular saying: To each his own 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️ Goodnight 👌 |

TheSuperNerd: If Osimhen understands nothing about Football basics, I very much doubt he would be in the class of forwards that he is today.
Let's face it. Osimhen have been carrying that team on his back for many games. Dragging the team out of the gutters for many games. So he has as much right to demand more from his teammates especially Zaidu. He is the one guy in the team literally ready to kill himself just to see us win.
So one or two bad games shouldn't make you or anyone here forget that.
Passion may be relative but what our eyes cannot deny is what Osimhen has been to this team game after game before even today. His passion, his work, his drive to wanna make us happy as fans.
He is the one guy who always gives his all and looks to never stop improving on his game just so he can be better for us.
So no one is exempting anyone from anything. We just have to admit that until the team gets better, you cannot expect Osimhen not to be frustrated especially with the individual effort he is putting in to be great for Club and Country. I'm not doubting Osimhen's quality. He's a good striker. He has his flaws here and there with regards to positional awareness and finishing off chances but he's still a good striker. No doubt about that. The reason for my initial statement is that from what I noticed, Zaidu didn't seem happy with his complaints. There's nothing wrong with telling your teammates how you want things done but when you become notorious for constantly yelling at them and blaming them, they will revolt. By your analogy, Moses Simon as the captain should have been angry and shouted at Osimhen for all the chances he missed in both legs. The thing is in people's minds, yelling has now become synonymous with leadership. Messi doesn't shout. He does all his talking with the ball at his feet. How many times have you seen Modric yell at his teammates? What about Cavani? What about Aguero? What about Harry Kane? Leadership is not all about shouting. You can motivate and ginger your teammates without blaming them every time especially when you make mistakes too. |

Another thing I noticed over the two legs was Iwobi taking shots from outside the box. For someone who was once known for his weak shots, now that's an improvement, although one got blocked and the other probably landed somewhere in Mexico . As it stands, Ademola Lookman is the only winger we have right now that still has small sense. Chukwueze just keeps on disappointing me 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️ |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by COOL10(m): 10:16pm On Mar 27, 2023 |
TheSuperNerd: He has been walking the talk for a long time. I remember the Cape Verde game in Lagos especially because I was in the stadium. What didn't Osimhen do or try that day to ensure we won? Did we? Nope. But beyond any iota of doubt, he gave more than anyone in that game. He literally almost killed himself for the team.
Now, about Bissau, Bad days happen for strikers especially when the team is also playing bonkers like we saw in Abuja. Even today he missed about 2 big chances but he didn't stop trying to make it right.
A couple of fellows in here were complaining about Zaidu Sanusi today and Osimhen was bearing his mind to him as well. So are you saying Victor was not in order pointing out a flaw unhappily?
Truth is a thin line exists between what you call motivation and shouting. In as much as we all want to paint the picture that they all are passionate, we all know by their attitude on the pitch that it is not true. Some players are more passionate than others. It shows.
Everyone in the team just have to come to the point where they all truly want to win together and as individuals.
The team is not in good shape and if you were Osimhen, you would be as mad as he was. The definition of Passion is relative. People see things differently. That's the beauty of life. Let's take an Aribo for example; imagine you play him as an AM for 5 straight games and he ends up with a return of 5 assists in 5 games; but also ends up losing the ball 50 times and has a recovery rate of 40% across those five games(hypothetically speaking). Would you say Aribo isn't passionate about the national team just because of that? What about his 5 assists in 5 games? He already successfully carried out his primary duty. Messi as great as he is, has a very poor work rate. He's been criticized numerous times for walking when others were marking but that's because he prioritises positional awareness and space interpretation. Football is not about Gra Gra. You need to showcase your passion by understanding the basics of football and doing your primary duty and THEY ALL have a blame for failing the core concepts. Osimhen can't and shouldn't be exempted from this. They make football look so difficult but it isn't. |

TheSuperNerd: That is where he excels. His direct playing style enables him to combine in 1-2 interplays and attack the box through either half spaces or across the final third.
The final third is Aribo's forte. Where he roams around to attack the box and create the overloads needed to create chances for shots on goal or layoffs for teammates. The guy really impressed me today. Play him around the D(arc) and put an Iwobi behind him and they'll create lots of chances. |

TheSuperNerd: You people have to understand that Osimhen is one of the leaders of this team and is naturally vocal onfield. This was an important live game. They were sh*t in Abuja. Proper nonsense. So he still had that at the back of his mind.
They were in the heat of battle. He had to make his mind known if he felt he had to say something.
This is the same guy who more times than several would be the only one giving absolutely everything for the team and we all would bear witness to it and admit that he is doing too much and should not hurt himself.
Now that he complains about one or two things, you guys now complain about it??
Is it not here that some of you said it is unfortunate Osimhen has to put up with the rubbish the team does from time to time??
Now he talks and it is a problem?? Do leaders not speak their mind again in the heat of battle?
I remember when I was a boy playing for my school and class teams, I was bloody vocal on the pitch yet outside it I was quite the opposite. But on the pitch, you wouldn't wanna mess up when I am on it, because I do my best to ensure I don't mess up and when I do, I take one for my team and fix those mistakes almost immediately.
I always believed that if at all you were picked to march on to the pitch and play, then you have to be ready to give your best. Not close to it but your best. And my teammates respected me because they know I led by example. I didn't just voice out, I also walked the talk.
And I am talking about teammates that included guys bigger than me yet my workrate was greater than all of them combined and I was a right footed left winger (majorly) but also quite versatile (could play LB, RB, CB, RW, CF, SS, GK, and DM). My favorite positions were LW, CF, DM and GK.
Osimhen is not gonna lose his teammates' support for saying something that will obviously benefit the team in the heat of the action. They will sort it out after the game and move on like nothing happened. They are professionals.
I mean, even as boys, myself and my teammates understood this how much more pros? In your 8th paragraph, you said you walked your talk. Great, now the question is has Osimhen been walking his talk? Did he walk his talk in the first leg? Did he walk his talk today? How many chances did he miss today? These are little things that teammates pick on. They won't retaliate immediately but it will definitely happen just like we saw with Zaidu today. There's a popular video of Cuadrado cautioning Ronaldo in the Juventus locker room for blaming his teammates. When Ronaldo left, Chiellini (I think it was) said that he was glad he left. Players pick on these things. There's a difference between motivating your teammates and constantly shouting at them. |

Osimhen sef. That was the 4th teammate he had argument with in under 180mins. I don't like that atall. Only the Chuks own was justified sha cos Chuks did rubbish in Abuja. He did today again. He needs to be careful. As Nigerians, we're naturally egoistic people and if his teammates begin to feel undermined because he's always shouting at them, they may revolt and stop giving him the ball . Joebie: Sacking Rohr was the right thing. As a team you want to progress. The problem is we didn’t go for an upgrade. We had no business sacking Rohr few weeks before AFCON 2021, a tournament he qualified us for with relative ease(again). I was of the opinion that he should have been allowed to play that tournament and then eventually sacked if he didn't take us at least the final. That should have been the ultimatum. People complain about how he spent 5 years in charge of the team without winning a trophy but then I ask "How many tournaments were held during Rohr's time?". The answer is two. Just two tournaments i.e 2018 World Cup and 2019 AFCON. Were you expecting him to win the 2018 world cup? Were you expecting him to win the 2019 AFCON; a tournament which prior to his appointment we failed to qualify for in back to back editions? Let's look at the AFCON stats: 2013 AFCON (Keshi) : Winners. 2015 AFCON: Failed to Qualify. 2017 AFCON: Failed to Qualify. Rohr was appointed and then: 2019 AFCON: Won Bronze(Third Place) Eguavoen was appointed and then: 2021 AFCON: Eliminated at Round of 16. Rohr should have at least been allowed to play AFCON 2021. His sack would have then been justified if he failed. |

daveP: due to Rohr's brilliance with qualifiers, I'm afraid we may be back to days of heart attack. That's what happens when you sack a coach without having a proper replacement. The problem with most Nigerians is pride. We don't have the money to hire a Grade A foreign coach but we had a Grade C coach who delivered on all the targets given to him by the NFF and ended up sending him away because of his style of play. I'll keep saying this: When we're ready to progress in this country, we will. We're not ready at all. Virtually every sector in this country is bleeding. Football cannot be an exception. |

Imagine using one gbef to downgrade another gbef Excuses upon excuses. It's because of people like you that our football is in the rot it currently is in. That person you called gbef qualified us WITH A GAME TO SPARE from a group that had Cameroon, Algeria and Zambia. That gbef qualified us for AFCON, a tournament we failed to qualify for in back to back editions even with our dearest local coaches. That gbef won us the only medal we've won in the past 10 years. That gbef's only flaw was subpar gameplay, a draw with Sierra Leone and a loss to C.A.R but he made up for those setbacks with victories in the 2nd legs of the respective matches. That gbef met ALL his targets given to him by the NFF even whilst being owed for months but was still sacked unreasonably because of people who thought we could do better with our so called world class players. Since you replaced that gbef, has your team made any notable success? The earlier you realise that gbefs get grade, the better for you. You sacked a Grade C coach only to replace him with Grade E Eguavoen and Peseiro. No be ment be that? |
