Irrespective of what you do, get the PMP since you already have plans for it. Projects exist in every field and a PMP is relevant in any profession, it all depends on how you want to apply it.

So10:
Please I'll appreciate some advice

I currently have my PR but I plan to land in three months. Should I hold on until I'm in Canada to do my certification in PMP to give myself time to understand the job market there and move accordingly or do you think I should do it here in Nigeria

Same here. I got my FG job when I was still a PR. Did my clearance with no issues as a Nigerian though it took about 4 months.

AyabaS:

Don’t let anyone discourage you please. I am a PR, I I haven’t been in Canada for up to 3 years and I’ve been working with the FG for over 2 years. When it was time for security clearance, I didn’t have to do anything other than fill a form. It took about 2 months for my clearance to be issued, it wasn’t a big deal at all.

Illusion. LQBTQIA+ free, and you think your kid is totally immune from it in a Canadian society? I'm waiting for the time they'll stop dreaming. Nigerians need a lot of growing up to do!

I remember he was one of the people that gave Abacha hell by condemning the actions of that military junta. Always using the pulpit for a good cause. He really stood with the masses when it mattered most no like nowadays pastors who are worse than the politicians. RIP

Hello house,

Has anyone evaluated their HND only (OND will not be evaluated) with IQAS before. What was the HND evaluated as. My brother wants to evaluate his HND only due to an issue at his OND school, he wants to do only the HND for now.

Just to encourage you today, please dont give up. I have been in the land for a few years now and flourishing. I know someone back then who came thru EE and wrote IELTS 12 times.

Please and please again don't give up, believe in your dreams and don't let these huddles discourage you.

Look at your mistakes, correct them and go for it again. Best wishes.

If you have friends and family here, they are the best to help. Almost all landlords wants a guarantor which you wont likely have unless someone is here doing that legwork for you.

As someone advised earlier, airbnb may be you best shot, you can then search for your apartment after that.

Best wishes.

Like I said, it depends on the road conditions. Even when i drive the one with winter tyres which i rarely do, the road condition decides.

Unless we have those crazy storms i usually do 45-55km/hr city and abt 10-15 more on the highway with my all seasons.

einsteino:

That's interesting. How slow did you have to drive on all seasons? also was it in city driving or highway?
Travel / Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by coolhayor: 6:31pm On Nov 15, 2020
Lived in Winnipeg for a few years now. Only 1 of my car has winter tyres. The 1 I drive is all seasons and I haven't had any issues so far.

I have driven thru crazy snowstorms even last year's Colorado low and it was ok. Even with Winter tyres you need to drive to the road condition.

I am not saying you shouldn't get it though, I am just speaking from my personal experience.

Genevach:

My destination is Manitoba, Winnipeg, I guess winter tire is a necessity??.

Abeg make una help with this question o.

coolhayor:
Hello house,

Please does any evaluation agency accept statement of result for OND/HND evaluation and still recognize both as 2 or more certificate.

In this case, OND is statement of result, HND is certificate. All effort to get the OND certificate has not worked. Is there an evaluation agency that will evaluate this.

Thank you

I live in Winnipeg. There are many good areas here generally, Pembina highway, St Mary, St Vital, St Nobert, Transcona, Bridge water, Charleswood etc. I will say the rule is the farther you are from downtown, the better.

I have been living here close to 2 years and not 1 crime heard in my area.

Most areas have school and daycare close to them. You may also need to consider proximity to shopping as well.

I hope this helps

Good afternoon landed seniors,

We are looking to land by October in Winnipeg. My main concern is, which area is good to raise a child.
I know Canada is a safe and secured place, but I really need your inputs about where I can raise my child with peace of mind, after all, it's the little Miss and her siblings we are doing this for.
Please, don't ignore a concerned mother's question.
Thank you!

We have been in the cold since when we came and did not die. I also feel people exaggerate the cold too much joor. It is indeed cold but people have been living here for over hundred years. Today it is 22 and na knicker we dey wear. The worst in d winter is -40. Get good clothings, a car with a heater, if no money for car yet dont stay at the bus stop for too long, get a good apartment, ensure you dont expose yourself to cold. That is all in my humble opinion.

keleto:
Good day house, am about registering for my MPNP, One fear keeps coming to my mind, whenever I read of the winter temperature in Manitoba,my mind just keeps beating. I really hate cold weather, but though one can use winter jacket, I still have fear if that would be enough.
Pls can someone contribute to a way forward on this.
Thanks

I live in the south, a fair number of Nigerians live here and it is relatively crime free.1 bedroom is around $900, Living expenses about $350- 500, 1 month bus pass $100. Lots of stores and library are close by here.

You will find housing cheaper around downtown but they may be issues prone.

I live in Winnipeg. I know there are a few WhatsApp grp in Winnipeg but I dont belong to any. Settling down will depend on a lot of factors here. You have to consider it if you are coming alone or married. What area of Winnipeg are you looking at, do you have a fixed or flexible budget etc. I can give you a few tips if you share some of these.

@randomsue welcome to Jets land. You definitely came in very good weather if you haven't experienced our arctic cold winter.

I processed my health card without the boarding pass though a while ago.

May the land favour you.

Randomsue:
Ehen. .for those coming to Winnipeg, you might have to keep the boarding passes for your last connecting flight.

For health card processing, we were asked to submit ours as proof of when we landed in Winnipeg...had to dig through the trash to bring them out..

Quite cold here though everyone keeps saying we came in fine weather, I also noticed no one seems to be in a hurry here

I am in sales and sales people are making more. It all depends on you experience, who you are working with and how you sell yourself. I got a job in banking and sales almost about the same time but I ditched d banking without thinking once not to talk of twice.

I may not be there yet but if you are determined and focused, you can make money in sales. I am not referring to commission, I am talking about a good base salary.

Also come to think of it getting a 40k job in Canada if you are not in healthcare,IT,Engineering is not a bad way to start, I am not discouraging having great dreams but for a start but I mean a 40k job is not a bad start if u get 1.

I know quite a number of people who gave been here for a few years with solid experience and packaging who are just struggling for a 40k role & there are those within a year who are already between $70-100k.

mumdaramic:
Hello Fam,

Thanks for all the useful info posted her for landed immigrants. After reading the thread, I realise that so many good paying opportunities are available to engineers, skilled labour, physicians, nurses etc.
What is the fate of bankers? Looking at posted salaries on glass door and the likes, you realise that annual salaries of some sales role is just btw 40-50k, whereas people in other fields are looking at over 100k annually.
We can't all be engineers and processors. Is there anyone with banking background that has successfully build a career here in Canada, making six digit figures that can share tips with some of us.

Thank you

@tojued @drcynthia

I posted majority of this about 2 months ago, I am just adding a little more;

I live in Winnipeg and it is a decent city. I have been here for a few months so my info may not be absolute.

There are jobs everywhere in Canada and including Manitoba. A search on indeed, workopolis or LinkedIn will give u a good view once u input d city and career area of choice. Although I will say for every 1 job in Manitoba and all the other provinces u have 9-10 in Ontario, 5-6 in Alberta & Quebec, 4-5 in BC. I am saying this from my job search experience but I stand to b corrected. Manitoba and Nova Scotia have more jobs than New Brunswick and slightly more than Saskatchewan.

Life is relatively cheap in Winnipeg compared to most Canadian cities especially housing except for Montreal and Halifax. Government also gives a bit of support to families and if u want u also have food banks and other free stuffs in some places across the city.

There a lot of Nigerians in Manitoba. In my opinion 70-80% of them are into healthcare support jobs, abt 7-10% of them are into customer service jobs, security or other survival jobs, the remaining percentage u find in white collar I believe. Based on this most Nigerians u meet immediately preach the majority jobs to u. I do not blame any1, to each his/her own. To get the healthcare jobs u only need some basic certificates u can get upon payment, no exams.

For the white collar jobs, all u need is do ur search well, highlight ur soft skills and experience, be ready to weather d storms if necessary, finally let God have His way.

1 reason why a lot of people also take some of this survival jobs here in my opinion is discrimination. I may be wrong but when u work in the survival jobs the culture is more immigrant friendly as u have lots of immigrants working with u and it is easier to blend in compared to a much more Canadian environment which is more common in white collars where u have to prove urself over & over ,u are also more careful & uptight (U can imagine this by thinking of working with only white people for 100days without seeing more than 2-3 blacks come your way during work & hearing no other language than English).

With determination, focus and sharpening ur skills u will get white collar and in no time get used to the Canadian culture if u so desire and willing to pay the price.

Winnipeg is quite hot in the summer and extremely cold in Winter, the farther north u go the more extreme the temperature especially the cold.

Housing range is $850-1300 for 1-2 bedroom apt.
Monthly Bus pass is $100 for unlimited bus ride across Winnipeg.
Cost of grocery for a family of 4 is between $250 -400.
Car insurance $105- 180 depending on the car
Gas for car $50-100 depending on ur commute
Parking-$50
Phone -$50
Internet- $60
Daycare- $400- 500/ month

My family doctor is a nice Nigerian who has been here for a while.

As @headstone mentioned a lot of Naijas live around Pembina/ University of Manitoba so also around St Mary/St Vital/ Waverly/Downtown. U have rarely hear of crime in all these areas I mentioned except for downtown.

Churches are a way of connecting back to your Nigerian roots in Winnipeg if u so wish, also notes that it comes with the Nigerian way of doing things.

Winnipeg is also gradually waking up to its city status in my opinion as well

For the Manitoba PNP it used to be very simple if u had family or friends nomination before but it has been reviewed now. Friends is still possible but very very very slim, even family stands a very slim chance now because it favours people who have education and a full time job in Manitoba in some NOC, based on that you find the influx of students into Manitoba and the ones who graduated also getting full time jobs. These people are the ones I know getting nomination for now.

These information is not exhaustive, I will add more as I remember stuffs.

Seyitorl2:
Gooday house, please is there anyone on here living in or knows about life in mordern Manitoba.
2. The jobs
3.How easy is it to get a job in Morden?
4.any other important information I might need to have to prepare my family and I as I intend to apply going through pnp route and have no Manitoba supporter.
Thanks.

Hoping to land in Winnipeg for @ least 6 months before looking @ other cities if things dont go as planned.
