AkinDS: So, when did a media officer become an authority on team strength and analysis? This shows she knows absolutely nothing about football. Nigeria was lucky not to have lost this game. Very poor team performance and I am beginning to lose patience with Randy and his poor tactics.
The Ghanaian coach, not only insulted Nigeria by claiming our players were not intelligent, also proved it with her team beating the Falcons. This team can't win jack at the WAFCON and I don't see them beating Cote D'Ivoire in the next knockout match. This team is poor!!! She sounded really dumb, I am really disappointed in this coach, honestly, judging from both encounters, the ghanaian coach is much better than him, he is neither South Africa's coach's match. From the highlights I saw, it's safe to say Nigeria were only lucky, they displayed no pattern of play, whatever, the players seemed bereft of idea, despite having played together for sometime now. If nothing serious changes, Ivory coast will bundle them out. |

lovewins: First Oshoola as always was absent from the game. She wasted clear chances and displayed no motivation in front of play. She needs to sit on the bench for a few games.
The team doesn't inspire confidence. They couldn't conveniently string a couple of passes. At best we saw the individual brilliance of the player's which wasn't much.
The coach really needs to sit up, he seem to be lacking technically..
Glad we are on to the next stage, but if we meet a team like south Africa we will likely be thrown out Seriously... I just watched the highlights, Oshoala kept missing chances, I don't know if this coach cannot find something to do about her situation, I mean, her presence does not count anymore in any Super falcons' match. The team's display was such an eyesore, they've got no playing pattern, Ghana seemed to have better chances, and the hungrier team. We are beginning to lose all the respect from other African teams. |

Alfryd: I just like wetin this coach talk, for billing to get 10 cap for Denmark, It will take a miracle . l.....
enmark coach insists Premier League stars keeping Billing out of squad not Nigeria comments
Bournemouth midfielder Philip Billing has been omitted from the latest Denmark squad announced on Monday ahead of the upcoming 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Austria.
The Danish-Nigerian star has been in brilliant form in the new season, scoring five goals in nine appearances for the Cherries, who top the Championship standings. Few months ago, Billing stated that he was considering switching his international allegiance from Denmark to Nigeria after he was not named in Denmark's squad to the 2020 European Championship.
Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand has emphasized that Billing's omission from his latest squad has nothing to do with his previous comments about playing for the Super Eagles, adding that the midfielder was considered for the last matches only for him to pull out of the roster due to illness. "You can forget all about that this summer. It's out of this world, " Hjulmand said to BT . "And I also took him to the last matches, where he unfortunately got sick before. So there is nothing in it."
Hjulmand has claimed that Billing, who is comfortable playing as a defensive and offensive midfielder, was not picked due to tactical reasons.
He pointed out that Billing is behind Brentford duo Nørgaard and Jensen, Tottenham Hotspur's Højbjerg and Sevilla's Delaney in his pecking order of central midfielders, while Chelsea's Christensen and Valencia's Wass are utility players who can fill in in central midfield. "It is not an opt-out of Philip Billing. But we have 'Nør' (Christian Nørgaard), Mathias (Jensen), Pierre (Højbjerg) And Thomas (Delaney) - and these are the ones I have chosen here. And it has given us the opportunity to get an more offensive player. "We can put Daniel Wass in centrally and we can throw Andreas Christensen up in midfield, so I think we are well covered. "So it's not an opt-out of Philip Billing, and it has nothing to do with this summer. That story is out of the world"
Billing's only cap for his country of birth was in a friendly against Faroe Islands in October 2020 He should forget about Nigeria, remain in Denmark and fight! |

Danielnino00: Who said his performance is abysmal?
What point exactly are you trying to prove?
The main point many of us here hold is that our team right now is much better than it was many years ago, on paper we have the best squad in Africa...So Rohr has no excuse not to deliver!
Simply put, we want him to do better...
Again, what's your own point? It is until we have 10 players playing for Barca, Chelsea,Man Utd, Liverpool,Bayern ,Man City and PSG before you can agree that we have the quality to win trophies? Sorry, what best squad in Africa? Did you seriously state that? I hate the way some Nigerians brag, ehn! |

GeneralDae: The likes of Oparanozie, Ebere Orji, Okobi, Ordega, Chikwelu, Oshoala, were all good enough to take over from old legs right from their U20 days, heck they were much better then, so why can't we get at least 5 very good players from this set for reserves at least?
Although I'll admit that most of them played two U20 tournaments, but it has always been the culture of the falcons to rely on the youth teams ( especially U20) for supply of new players. I still doubt they can, anyway, there were many absent players, if we can just discover a few players from among the U20s to compete effectively at the midfield, full back, we'll be fine. |

Schemerkhiz: Guys here's a little piece As for that one guy supporting old players, eh... He's very annoying, he does not want our football to grow. Truth is, Chikwelu and Oparanozie are 'washed up,' Oparanozie can only be a substitute player, same as Ordega... Chikwelu... Seriously? An experienced player who is often taken to the cleaners by obscure, inexperienced players? sorry, such 'experience' is useless! And it's now even clear that Regina Otu is a great upgrade over her, Chikwelu should be shown the exit door as soon as possible. Ebi has not been bad, she can remain so the younger ones can learn from her, but must not always start. |

GeneralDae: Okobi, Oparanozie and Chikwelu still believe in holding on to the ball for long or dribbling. This style of football is getting outdated and this is coupled with the fact that they are no longer thesame skillful players they used to be. Esther Okoronkwo also plays thesame way, the difference is that due to her age she is way faster than them at the moment. I agree with you and in my opinion, Oparanozie, Ordega, and Oshoala should play from the bench while Okobi and Chikwelu should be left out of some games. Sorry, despite her limitations, Oshoala will always start, she's got a very important asset no one else on the team can match - PACE. The coach only has to find a way to fully exploit her pace. |

Schemerkhiz: Chinaza Uchendu is still recovering from ACL, I believe once she fully recover she would get her spot back...
This ACL is one of the most dangerous injury in Football, can take from 6months to about 2 years depending on the Severity.. Some times it might lead to the end of their career..
Example Ada Hergeberg of Lyon/Norway spent over 18months out of football because of ACL.. You really think she'll get her spot back? Throughout the time Dennerby used her, She didn't have much impact, was only used sparingly her new club before even she got injured. I like how she takes spot kick, though. |
Sports › Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by CoolJulian: 11:25pm On Sep 23, 2021 |
AkinDS: I don't. She doesn't have the speed that a Toni Payne (Seville) or Iffy Onumonu (FC Gotham) bring to the table. Not to mention Vivian Ikechukwu. It will be a waste putting Ajibade on the flanks. I will place those two ahead of her on the wings. It's not all about the speed na... I like her trickery, she's developing her game seriously, like decision making, etc. Is Payne not supposed to be the bonafide attacking midfielder? Vivian is a substitute, not a starter, Isn't Onumonu a center forward? Besides, Ajibade is not that slow. |
Sports › Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by CoolJulian: 11:16pm On Sep 23, 2021*. Modified: 11:48pm On Sep 23, 2021 |
AkinDS: Now that's a lady I have a soft spot for! Love the way she glides in the midfield. Don't know why Dennerby decided to do away with her, as she seemed to be on the ascendancy before he came.
My midfield candidates for the future will be: 1. Toni Payne 2. Rash Ajibade 3. Halimat Ayinde 4. Regina Otu 5. Christy Ucheibe 6. Esther Ijeoma Okoronkwo
Worthy mentions: Joy Bokiri - Not really sold on her. Slightly below par for me in the ABC but might improve with her move to AIK. a. Amarachi Okoronkwo - Could be a fantastic midfield player and a great passer of the ball. However, she makes a lot of bone-head mistakes which ultimately ruin her game. Hopefully, she can clean up her act, as she can become a really great midfielder. Wait and see. b. Osare Igbinovia - I have a soft spot for her. Intelligent, skillful midfielder. Hope she has another opportunity to prove herself, as she is only 25. However, with a lot of up and coming players, who knows. c. Debbie Abiodun - Great performance with Rivers Angels and currently in U20. Certainly one for the future. d. Elish Sulola - Maybe (if she choses to play for Nigeria). Big, strong and smart kid. I thought Ijeoma is a forward, I'd prefer she plays there, Ucheibe... I like it that she's young, and hope she impresses... For now, we wait till she shows up. Joy Bokiri was really impressive during her junior days, has played for some seasons in Europe, but I don't trust her yet, Amarachi is not young, I doubt she'll improve much, Igbinovia used to be my favorite player during her U20 days, came in to the senior team and seemed to be ready to take over from Okobi, then, boom..., she disappeared, who is Debbie Abiodun? As for Sulola, I doubt she's ready for the challenge yet. |
Sports › Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by CoolJulian: 10:55pm On Sep 23, 2021 |
GeneralDae: Vivian Ikechuckwu is naturally a very good winger. It's what she played for Rivers Angels at the CAF qualifiers. Maybe we could try her there. We need to study the games of this present U20 team to fish out some wingers, also Vivylopez should be called to the U20 side. She's always liking posts related to the super falcons and it seems she is very interested in Nigeria ( her mother's homeland). I refuse to get carried away by those great moments during the South Africa match. Vivian is not good enough to lead at the wing in the Super falcons we envisage, this is not Rivers Angel's level of football, she needs lots of "polishing." She's good enough to be a substitute. |
Sports › Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by CoolJulian: 10:43pm On Sep 23, 2021 |
timay: Hopefully, we can discover good players from this set who will take over from the old legs in the falcon team. If we can get minimum of 5 good players to transit successfully into the falcons team in future, then we will continue to dominate Africa at least. I very much doubt that these very ones can immediately take over from the "old legs," It'll take some time, years, even. |

AkinDS: Or Ajibade - Otu - Payne. I believe Ajibade is a better midfielder than striker (her passing and feistiness in the middle of the park is top notch!) While I agree Ajibade has all the attributes to blossom at the midfield, from her most recent displays, don't you think she's the very best to man the right wing? I, personally, see no better player at that wing. I think that it would be a waste playing her at the midfield when Otu, Payne, Ayinde can do the work perfectly. |
Sports › Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by CoolJulian: 4:27pm On Sep 23, 2021 |
AkinDS: I am inclined to agree with you on Ayinde, especially considering she has been manning the midfield with much slower players (Chikwelu in particular). With Otu and Payne alongside her, the pace and tempo of the midfield play should be much quicker and that would be of benefit to her. I just hope her bad injury doesn't impede her ability to play at her previous level and beyond. Another midfield combination I think will be very effective would be Ajibade - Otu - Payne. There are improved options in the midfield but it needs to be overhauled and the old guard need to be let go.
I think Waldrum has sensed this and that may be a reason why someone like Ordega was benched for the final. Right! |
Sports › Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by CoolJulian: 3:53pm On Sep 23, 2021*. Modified: 4:29pm On Sep 23, 2021 |
timay: When passing is your weakness as a midfielder, then why the heck are you playing that position Actually, Ayinde is a very good player, like I stated earlier, she also ended up as her club's best player last season ; she has, in fact, been our best midfielder for years now, If you ever watched the recent AWCONs, and the turkey tournament carefully, you would notice her impact. Rita Chikwelu, who is extremely slow and washed up, and Okobi, have been flops( Okobi used to have moments of magic, though), same Okobi's magical moments have always, somehow, beclouded fans' sense of judgment. Ayinde has been the one on the other end, trying to clean up the duo's "messes," trying to balance things up. If you remember vividly, in recent AWCONs, the likes of Cameroon have always outplayed us from beginning to end, the only thing they've lacked is experience - I am usually afraid whenever we are to face them cos of their physicality, which our midfield usually has no answers to, even South Africa had toatally overpowered our midfield at the last AWCON, we did not pay attention cos we, somehow, ended up winning the Cup. Now that Otu has been discovered, together with Payne, I think It would be ideal that they play with Ayinde. In all, we need serious competition at the midfield and full back, I opine that attack is not the real problem, cos there are several options, same as central defense. |
