MadCow1:You playfully toss the 7-year old into the pool. He seems to be struggling, instead of swimming. You say "It takes 3mins and 30secs to drown. Let's wait for the 3 mins and 30 seconds to elapse. If it is clear then that he has clearly failed to swim by then, we will bring him out". He may be dead before you bring him out. With your own analogy, the issue is that you got it wrong. Moses took the children of Israel out of Egypt in order to take them to the promised land. In our case, PMB has taken us from our measureable wilderness journey to the promised land, into a year of slavery in Egypt! |
Quakertellicus1:Power did improve under the last administration. Why does it have to deteriorate in only one year? When the new administration came in (and without doing a single thing) the further improvement felt at the time on account of work done by the just leaving administration was attributed to president Buhari's body language. It was hailed as the change we are talking about. So it s interesting to hear a PMB supporter now say "...it is going to take ten years to fully improve generation, and sort out the wretched transmission system that we have right now." Ekugbeh |

I have said that we should rally around Ibrahim Shekarau, former Kano gov before Kwankwaso for 2019. Whether he is in APC or PDP or ANPP, we should not care. Of all the presidential aspirants we have had in the past, the man is the best. It is time we did something to change the internal chemistry of those who are (or even aspire to be) president. Go watch the 2011 presidential debate, the one which Goodluck refused to attend but which Buhari, El-Rufai and Nuhu Ribadu attended. Shekarau outclassed all of them them by far. I thought I would vote him in 2015 but the dynamics of politics did not see him emerge as a candidate for any party. Please try and research the man. Amongst other things, you will notice that through out his tenure as governor of notorious Kano, there was not one Kano riot. Let us begin to the change we have always needed in our own hands *An update* On second thoughts, let's not vote for him if he is in APC. I am thinking the click within might be too strong for him to withstand. If they fund him maybe it will be hard for him not to do their bidding. Not sure about this yet although I think the APC will not promote him because he left them earlier saying they weren't organised and also I believe Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not want to support his as he sees him (Shekarau) as hard to control ItzTun3chi TippyTop multicolour Beremx eluquenson zimoni SleekAboki utytill zimoni lomprico likata likata bloodykiller doublewisdom WiseBully dunkem21 ayindejimmy 16plus6is24 sosanova drfk001 millhouse DONMAYOR19 NavierStokes dechriscool IzonOwei |

Darkchocolate:The comparison should be made with other presidents' first year since Buhari has done only 1 yr. That being said, it has not been an impressive 1st year at all by Buhari. Actually, it has been bad |
30 registered political parties in Nigeria, none taking APC on pragmatically & intellectually I found this tweet on twitter and it would seem true
|
zik4ever:I think we should agree with you that all involved parties shd be prosecuted but the APC paints themselves as clowns by wailing in public about this when the whole world has seen them go to the mile1 police station and successfully whisk away an EO handed over to the police for electoral malpractice, from the law. They blundered by saying the EO was kidnapped by pdp supporters. Kidnappers do not kidnap their victims and hand them over to the police. |

I find it kind of suspicioius that suddenly, shekau the Boko Haram leader should call for an abandonment of arms by his followers. Even when they were rattled under Jonathan, they called for negotiation. It makes me feel there is a possibility their masters (the folks behind them) have told them to pipe down because it is time for that to happen. Actually, if Buhari and any elements of the APC were behind Boko Haram, it would be apparent who has been behind them if immediately after the 2015 polls, Boko Haram decided to disband themselves. The natural thing would have been to wait till a much later date to have them disbanded. Now curiously, in the first Security Council meeting, shortly after Buhari was sworn in, Osibanjo his deputy was prevented from participating in that meeting on Buhari's orders. What did he not want the elected vice president to know that would lead him to illegally order and enforce the barring of the vice president from the security council meeting? Does the presidency have any acceptable explanation for his actions there? So long as that action was carried out and we still have no valid explanation, Nigerians must suspect the president and elements in his party with regards to the insecurity that has plagued the country through Boko haram |
odikimi:But I have currently seen no other source right now. Still waiting for valid source or to see it on TV |
odikimi:That is really sad. |
ddippset:I say there is no need for discussions with Amaechi to ensure peace right now in Rivers State because he holds no office in any tier of govt in Rivers State and if there is a need to discuss with an outside person for peace to exist in Rivers State right now, that outside person must be an outside agitator (just like boko haram and the militants). Now please, can you help us see the connection between what you have posted here and what I said? |
otokx:Some other school of thought suggests (in fact affirms) that all these cutting corners to make deals are not good at all and weaken our country. The thing is there is the rule of law, implementing which all crap will be eliminated. When you make the law cower in the corner and you try to make all kinds of deals take the place of the law, you continually weaken the country. The more irrelevant we make our laws, the more irrelevant what makes us as a country becomes. Take for example, Agatu. Did people commit murder? Are the people known? Why can't they be arrested? Okay if that is extreme (which it is not) why can't they be evacuated from lands they now occupy illegally after killing people they don't even share boundaries with? You see, just implement the law and all will be fine. From allowing the Zamfara guys to do sharia in the north during OBJ's era, to allowing fulanis to kill and doing nothing about it, to not punishing those caught in acts of electoral malpractice only exacerbates the problems. Perpetrators are caught every time and what ever happens to them? The police catches them red handed, arrests them and clearly somewhere down the line, lets them go again - for reasons we never get told It is this culture that fans the embers of all the wrong going on. So I will repeat that all these long stories are not necessary when the rules have been designed to completely take care of all these issues. (1)INEC conducts fairly (2)Police arrests who they can, including compromised INEC staff caught in the act - and prosecutes them accordingly (3)INEC announces results (4)Parties involved accept their victories and losses. If we have the above four situations prevalent, from where will electoral violence evolve? If the laws that constitute a country cannot and will not be upheld, that country is a joke and the law does not say here that when all these misdemeanours are going on, culpable people caught in the act should go scot-free as they try to arrange for talks to be made. Indeed, if guilty parties were being punished, we would not have been fooling around with violence, accusations and counter-accusations till we got to this point where after a re-run, some elections are still not done, people were caught cheating, and we still have accusations and counter-accusations flying around as nobody has been punished. Instead we had an electoral officer saved from the law by people in the system |
ddippset:Whereas there is no evidence of a connection between the past president, his wife and electoral malpractice in last years election in Rivers State, if the govt goes in that direction, no one will have a problem with that because no one will have the moral grounds to say that should not be done. But we are talking about Rivers State here and the prospects of peace in the re-run of elections right now. And if electoral officers handed over to the police with evidence of fraud are not "rescued" away from the police but punished, and if winners and losers accept the results and plan for 2019, I repeat my earlier question... ...from where will the violence erupt? |
otokx:If he needs to discuss with Amaechi, it is the same way the govt needed to discuss with the militants. It is the same way the govt felt the need to discuss with Boko Haram. The truth is Amaechi holds no official position in any tier of Rivers govt. That the need to discuss with him should be seen as existing is testament to the fact that he is an external force instigating stability in the state. The only official things that needed to be discussed were: 1) Hand over notes. Here, not one hand over note was written by Amaechi. The only gov in Nigeria who did not scribble a single line of hand over note. 2) The billions he is alleged to have misappropriated. On both issues, the govt is not pursuing the past governor |
otokx:Because that is not what is necessary. What is necessary is for riggers in elections to be punished, and losers to accept defeat. If this happens, from where will the political violence erupt? The destiny of the state is not about people's egos and who comes along to recognise or reckon with whom. Not about whose ego needs massaging by a meeting where an opponent comes and reckons with him. The gov has a job to do. So does the transport minister have a job to do. Why can't the minister of transport focus on his job and let governors focus on theirs? Same goes for NIMASA and NDDC heads. If they all get more occupied with their jobs (what they are actually paid to spend their time doing), we will have peace and the nation will be well served |
A valid source please. |
Because I did not vote for him, I do not regret. I only regret that others were not wiser. And as I had hopes that he would be an anti-corruption man, I have been disappointed that his actions in that regard have fallen far below expectation. |
Gaborone:Earlier this year, I went to collect my DealDey earnings from their office (although I knew I should make a request so they pay it into my account). I arrived at their office (in PH) and the place was locked. I asked a security guard to the complex where they had gone and he said he does not know. I called the DealDey sales person assigned to me and he said they are not in PH anymore. I pressed to know if it was because they weren't getting a justifiable amount of sales from the PH region. He said no. It was because, the investors had decided to hold back a bit, given the uncertain economic direction. That was when Buhari was wasting time with ministerial appointments or defining a political direction |
olad1954:If the only place he has to look for funds in looted funds, he does not qualify to be president. Are you aware of how long it takes to recover just a million dollars of looted funds? What happens over the cause of all those months. If that is what the economy is waiting for, it will grind to a halt before "salvation" comes. In any case, Buhari himself does not claim that is the hoped for source for funds to fund the economy. This year's budget is bigger than last years and the way the govt is funding it is through borrowing . That is the official position of the govt and the one they pursue. Your statements here, from all indications, are just that - your statements |
gists:How come things are now worse after all these things being done? How come these international business mean are leaving? Their departure is another version of a vote of no confidence in those steering our economy. Are you aware that in less than one year, our inflation rate has increased to double digits (11%) as against the around 8% it had fallen to with previous administrations. |
He is not the one that creates these cartoons. He sees them and shares the illustrated political humour with the public |
ddippset:Yes and it falls in the same category as the rumour that Oladipo Diya knelt before Abacha, begged and was given a handkerchief to wipe his tears |
I will have to look for my post on Nairaland where I predicted that fundamental Islamists would be more emboldened by a Buhari presidency. Whereas that did not happen, it is the riffle-carrying, village-raiding Fulani herdsmen that have become emboldened. Now it seems the force is working with them. Someone informed on those young men. Since they say the Fulani's have settled their, it may be a Fulani who observed, heard or saw what was going on. |
ddippset:When I make an assertion, even if not based on proof but on analysis, I commonly make it clear that it is an assertion. I believe in this case, although I believe it is true, I made it clear that "Amaechi was rumoured to have fratanized with certain northern political elements against Jonathan[sic] assuming the office when Yar Adua just passed away". I didn't add that it was also said that they came to some kind of truce before the 2011 elections. So what you should take away from this is whether these stories were true or not (I believe they were) it is clear that was just a political figure at the top of PDP affairs in Rivers state. As for vote delivery, he has not yet had that traction in Rivers State. He only succeeded once at the polls in his second term. In his first term, he did not go through the challenge of an election. |
superstar1:1) I have thrown away all thoughts that Buhari is not corrupt. I have been forced to. Details of this should be put on another thread 2) It should not be you (a nobody in govt circles) proposing the social contract. It should be the govt itself, which clearly is not interested. 3) When elected into office, you already are in a contract with the people to do what is right and be 100% accountable and responsible with funds. This contract is the one that has perpetually been broken by the Nigerian leaders, as perpetually as the daily rising sun. 4) These leaders are still very much in power. 5) If Nigerians do not pay income tax (out of their earnings) they will not ask for accountability from the government. This they will psychologically accept it as an increase in MTN et al's charges, which the govt collects from MTN et al. There is no human collector face to interface with and associate the collection with. All they have is MTN et al, and they still don't interface directly with any collecting MTN staff. 6) How can citizens decide to stop paying? They cannot implement a stop to their paying. They've got no control over that. The service providers cannot stop the forced implementation of payment at that point when they are at the mercy of the govt. Any operator that does not implement and pay will face the threat of damagingly heavier fines and possible shut down 7) Finally, even if Buhari was straight (an idea which many reasons force us to discard presently) how come it did not stop the budget from being padded? Conclusion we cannot play into the hands of calculated moves by thieves on the chessboard. The people who want this money, govt officials, are established thieves. And so I conclude with my earlier question... Why should we contribute 20bn per month to these people when we know the looters of yester years are still very much on the ground? |
ddippset:Amaechi's influence did not make Rivers people vote Jonathan in 2011. We know this because his influence could not take the votes away from Jonathan in 2015. Clearly, he is not the factor that determines if we vote Jonathan or not Actually, he also seems resoundingly unsuccessful in influencing Rivers votes people at the national assembly and senate positions |
ddippset:1) Unfortunately, you can't wish facts into being beer palour conspiracy theories. 2) Please do not associate me with the the "he betrayed our brother" crowd. See my position here: https://www.nairaland.com/3011259/why-apc-lost-rivers/3#44156566 3) You insult the legacy of Diete-Spiff and the intelligence of all Rivers people who know no one has equalled Diete-Spiff's performance in the state 4) Take a look at my photo below
