akuracy:There are several social stigmas attached to atheism. You may lose friends, people will give you disapproving glances if it becomes common knowledge, it would be difficult to find a job or a spouse, if a theft or some form of crime is committed you'll probably be the first person to be accused. Not everybody can put up with that. I, for one am a closeted atheist who lives with very christian parents; I would not my future or my well-being by telling parents that I'm atheist because I can't predict their actions. So, I will wait till I'm financially independent before I come out. Social media gives us an anonymous platform to air our views in a region where freedom of speech isn't all that free. And yes, some of us get carried away and become trolls but some are basically fountains knowledge. So the fact that some atheists put up a religious front in real life doesn't mean that they're just doing it for attention (although some probably are, who knows? ![]() |
Let me tell you a story, Bob is in love with a girl named Alice. Everyday will come to Alice's doorstep with chocolate and flowers to proclaim his undying love for her. Sometimes Alice will tell him to leave but most of the time she will ignore him. He would even mow her lawn and watch her gate at night, all to no avail. One day, Bob comes to Alice's house in a black van. He steps out with a battery ram and breaks her door down. Bob overpowers Alice, ties her up, puts her in his van, and drives to a remote area. When Alice's blindfolds have been removed she sees herself in some form of dungeon with every torture device known to man. Frightened she asks: "Where am I?" Bob replies: "I love you, Alice -so much that I built an underground torture chamber in case you didn't love me back. It shouldn't have been this way this way, if you had loved me, we could have lived together on my private island with every form of comfort." This story is an analogy to christian mythology. Even if by some off chance that all this is true is God (Bob in this story) a moral character that should be followed. |
Annunaki:Nigeria still has a long way to go because I don't understand a fully-grown man can say that taking someone's religious freedom away is a good thing. Ok; let's look at it this way, christianity caused the Dark Ages, the Spanish Inquisition. The whites used christianity to endorse slavery, the Dutch Reformative church used it to justify apartheid, Adolf Hitler, the man responsible for the death of 1.6 million Jews (just the jewish casualties) in WWII was christian. Shouldn't we have banned christianity a long time ago then? |
HCpaul:Why are you christians so full of hatred? You're pointing out two atheists who disagree when christianity has countless denominations with different churches within those denominations. Isn't that hypocritical? Now you're shamelessly attacking an atheist with baseless ad hominems. Why don't you pray to your God to convert one of the prominent atheists on this forum since he's so powerful. |
It's not like it's easy to be an atheist in this part of the world, so that is a strange generalization that you're making there. I understand that you can't fathom how people don't believe in the mythology that has been repeated over and over to you before you could see the glaring flaws in it. I know that bigots are skilled at ignoring evidence against what they believe; just don't deny the evidence that atheists exist. |
urahara:Don't try to reason with bigots; it's like bringing a knife to a magic wand fight. |
Awwww. |
The same reason he put all that fossil evidence in the ground, to test your faith!! /s |
1feness:One prominent christian apologist on NL (I'm not sure who) said that global warming isn't a problem because God will sort it out. With that kind of attitude from enough people isn't the human race in a lot of trouble? |
urahara:The easiest way to make people feel comfortable with discriminating against a group is to dehumanize the group. |
Paul also said that it's wrong for women to speak in church. So, all advocates for gender equality are going to hell. EDIT: Grammar. |
I don't believe in karma, it doesn't exist to me. Too much evil in this world goes unpunished while good goes unrewarded. While it may be comforting to believe in the law of karma, it's just not true in our imperfect world. |
Donald Trump is too brain-dead to make any impact in the upcoming elections. |
AlfaSeltzer:Well, he is a fisher of men. |
The Catholic Church was the first church, then some guys started to feel all high and mighty and violently broke away. They even ripped some books out of the original bible. Countless lives were lost in the process. So; yes, Catholics practise the purest form of christianity you can get. Just for your info. |
Replace 'Mohammed' with 'Jesus' and 'Quran' with 'Bible', then look at your hypocrisy. |
Scholar8200:Do you believe yourself when you spew blatant lies? |
hopelink1:The one that inspired the spanish inquisition? Or the one that inspires jihad? |
malvisguy212:BURN IN HEAVEN!!! |
eposho:Boom! We have a winner. |
Reddit did the math and here's the verdict:

DDeliverer:Read the passages and it will all come together. |
winner01:Maybe if you stop getting all your knowledge of evolution from pro-creationist websites then you'll have a better idea of how it works. I strongly recommend this link: darryl-cunningham..co.nz/2011/06/evolution.html?m=1 |
This is how it goes: 1. When the founder is alive (or lived recently), it is a CULT. 2. When the founder is long dead, it is a RELIGION. 3. When enough of the believers have died out, it becomes a MYTH. |
Christmas is coming! And what better way is there to celebrate it than to tell the story of Jesus' resurrection! What follows is a report extracted from the four gospels: Before dawn on the first day of the week when it was still dark, but at dawn on the first day of the week when it was not dark, but also early in the morning of the first day of the week after sunrise - Mary Magdalene and Joanna and the other Mary and other women that were with them, but only Mary Magdelene and the other Mary, but only Mary Magdalene and the other Mary and Salome, but also only Mary Magdelene alone - came to the tomb. There they but also she alone - saw the stone rolled away from the tomb, but wondered aloud which of them would roll the stone away, but also saw the tomb closed and an angel appeared to roll the stone away. Entering the tomb, they but also she alone, find two angels and also only the one angel, who both were but also singularly was sitting inside where the body had lain, but also the tomb was completely empty of angels and the angels were standing behind them instead. Then Mary and the women, but also only Mary, both met but did not meet the resurrected Jesus. And Mary was both overjoyed to hear of the resurrection, but also grief-stricken that someone had taken the body because she didn't know where the body was or that it had been resurrected. Leaving that place the women, but also Mary alone, left to tell all the disciples and everyone else, but only the disciples and nobody else, but also they didn't tell anyone because they were afraid. Then Jesus appeared both first to the disciples, but also first to Mary alone though she knew him not, but also first to Cleopas. And the disciples both did, but did not touch him, for Jesus had not yet ascended and didn't let anyone touch him, but also they were all there and holding his hands and feet in worship, but also they weren't all there because Thomas was late and felt the holes in his hands and feet. READ: Matthew 28 Mark 16 Luke 24 John 20 Good luck understanding! |
1feness:Please tell us how you did this! |
Nice try, Christ Embassy PR team. |
eposho:This King Hezekiah guy is one. |
Nobody said all the biblical people were fake. Some real characters were added to a fictional story. It's like The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen. |
Notice how the scales are not on his eyelids, nose or lips? And how for some reason they affected his hair? Wake up, sheeple! XD. |
Tallesty1:If an adult should have se.x with a minor, whether it's consensual or not, it is termed statutory rape. Seriously guys, keep your package out of reach of children. Anybody less than 18 should be left alone for his/her age group. Or better still, just wait. |
NOBODYY:If they do it once, they'll do it forever. |
