Civetcat: A prodigal son who is unwilling to accept the consequences of her actions. The policy is working as it is supposed to . People are learning the harsh truth. The party is over. Get up and be productive or waste away trying to benefit from what you didn’t produce . The same policies are being applied globally but why is Nigeria’s case different? As someone who left Nigeria for 10 years and came back. The greatest shock was the newly acquired taste in the period I was away. The lacasera ,Omo detergent ,Bourvita ,Gulder , had been replaced by more fashionable imported brands. People I know spend so much on leisure, frivolities and luxury in a way that I cannot comprehend. Instead of factories and cottage industries,Everywhere is dotted with mosques ,churches, hotels and event centres. The current polity highlights so many structural issues.
The upper middle class who are supposed to be the engine of the economy only spend on lifestyle; designer clothes, holidays and schools abroad ,expensive cars , beverages and Rolexes. They add little or no value while getting so much out of the system . Take a look at Alibaba and see all sort of Manufacuring plant and Machineries that are available for sale . Yet we import stuff that add no value .You can probably build to 200 small factories for the price of 100 cars parked in front of a church in Lekki on sunday.
Food security is another one . How did we manage to acquire an unhealthy taste for foreign food like rice which we do not have the geographical advantage to mass produce while ignoring our local food.
Why are citizens protecting the civil service when much of it is simply not adding any value . The salaries of civil servants and politicians consumes much of our national budget. You've made some valid points here, the nigerian taste for foreign goods were propelled by successive government currupt tendencies. Nigerians tilted to the body language of the government that institutionalized and legalized curruption They see government officials living ostentatious livestyle and the citizens want to do same at the slightest opportunity. |

shortgun: This is not true, the refinery was initially designed specifically for refining Nigerian crude, it will have to be modified to process crude from other sources. wrong, Dangote refinery was designed to refine crude from around the world because nigeria cannot sustain the supply chain due to a lot of factors of which some is at play now Dangote knew this,so,he can source for crude anywhere in the world |

shortgun: I laughed very hard when Reno the dumbo posted that the reason Dangote is getting Crude oil outside the shores of Nigeria for his refinery in Lagos was because Nigeria's crude oil have already been contracted far into the future. And we have a quota from OPEC.... As usual, many fell for his senseless, baseless and nonsensical assertions without bothering to verify or ask critical questions like. How will a refinery that was conceptualized, designed and built to refine Nigerian crude oil not have adequate provisions for Nigerian crude oil supply?
Well, the real gist and the crux of the matter is that the federal government refused to accept naira payments for crude oil sales to Dangote refinery, insisting that Dangote pay only in dollars. Despite Dangote's reservations about the government's motive for requesting foreign currency in a domestic transaction where naira should be the only legal tender , the federal government remained adamant, demanding payment solely in dollars. Also, the federal government mandated that Dangote Refinery cover the freight costs for vessels selected by government cronies, equivalent to the rates charged by overseas vessels, along with port charges and landing costs—all payable in dollars.
After crunching the numbers , the management of Dangote Refinery concluded that sourcing crude oil from outside Nigeria from far away USA would result in lower costs. Thus, they decided to abandon the Nigerian crude, leaving it for Tinubu and his cronies to drink. Dangote refinery was designed to refine different crude aside Nigeria's |

Tareq1105: Forget Policy Reversal, it would not happen.
Let's reduce our thirst for dollar. More Nigerians are now into forex round tripping.
How do you explain a woman that Fed Govt paid her retirement benefits of #8.2m in December and she took #7.5m of it to BDC and convert it to Dollars and deposit it in her Domi Account.
It's not that she wants to travel or import raw materials from anywhere. She just wanted to save in dollars.
This is the issue we have this days but we're quick to blame Tinubu when we're the one responsible for mounting pressure demand on Dollar.
Naira is our currency and Tinubu would not allow Nigeria to become Venezuela hence the current forex reform Policy. since Nigeria is an import dependant nation,it will be difficult to control the dollar. Moreover,is it not the same government officials that are taking the dollar to the black market. All these will never work, the government is even making things worse with all these panic measures What is happening in the economy now is a result of successive government neglect and currupt practices,it was easily activated by the wrong timing of the fuel subsidy removal even when they are still importing fuel. |
Politics › Re: Supply Shocks, Hyper-Inflation Cause Of Hunger, Hardship – CBN Governor, Cardoso by coputa(m): 6:59am On Feb 10, 2024 |
Hyper inflation is not caused by supply shock,it was caused by the government greedy implementation of wrong policy like the removall of fuel subsidy and floating the naira.
These twos cannot be implemented simultaneously,it will bounce back, the government shot itself on the foot,
There have to be an immediate policy reversal |

festacman: In his address at a well-attended public hearing, the apex bank boss attributed hyper inflation to organic food shortages but added that the government was addressing the menace through fiscal policies which may take time to work out.
You can't address the problem of food shortages through fiscal means. You counter food shortages by producing more food. FG must devise ways to facilitate production of more food by applying innovation in protecting farmers and their farms as well as bringing more lands under cultivation in the coming farming season.
By the way the CBN Governor's speech is all over the place. Said so much without saying anything that looks like a solution to current economic crisis.
We need a holistic economic plan while the current adhoc measures are implemented. Nigeria government both current and past forgot to invest into agriculture which is the mainstay of any economy Without food , and when there's hunger in the land, there will be a huge fall in productivity The government should embark on mass importation of essential food items into the country as a short term solution to flood the market s so to crash prices, so that the poor masses can afford them I have said this before but nobody listened,The federal government should set up a program mandating each state to set up mega farms in all their local government Agricultural equipments and processors should be procured to process the crops after harvesting, this will make every state in the country to be self sufficient in food production and it will also generate employment. Federal allocation to states has been incresed by 40%, instead of them to spend it on itrelevances, they should concentrate investment some of it in Agriculture. There is a saying that when you have food you have conquered poverty. |

Ttalk: What is the sense in removing fuel subsidies when you only redirect money from the subsidy cabal to be deposited into the pocket of the political cabal.
Today, allocation to state governments has increased by 40% yet there's no 40% increase in deliverables to the people of the states.
Tell me, which of the states in Nigeria has increased its infrastructure by 40% including salary to its workers What we see today is a similar expenditure just before the subsidy removal.
You wonder why there's an increase in the demand for the dollar and you need to look the way of our governors who after collecting monthly allocation deduct state salary and use the remaining balance to mop up dollars in circulation. Nigerians should know that no leader is going to the political office to serve but to loot the collective reasources for himself, family and friends. |

what are the "fresh ideas or positive contribution to it's policies" you are referring to?
how did Atiku and Obi wish Tinubu failure? are they the reason Tinubu is failing woefully on every side?
why should Nigerians be the ones to make suggestions to government on sound economic policies? was that the agreement? was that what Tinubu/APC promised and campaigned for? What is wrong if opposition sell Lauderdale programs to the government for the good of all nigerians. Tinubu is human,he is falable, there's no guarantee that government knows everything Besides, Nigeria is one country that is difficult to govern due to a lot of factors. It has been so in Nigeria, opposition always wishing those in power to fail, even when they had fresh ideas or positive contribution to it's policies.
Peter Obi and Atiku has continued in that stead, the old practice of picking holes in policies of those in power and wishing them failure.
This practice have to stop, the government should open a channel were Nigerians should make suggestions to the government on sound economic policies that will impact positivity on the citizenry. |

Truth is that it will take more than four years for the economy to be a bit stable because of the following reasons
1.Nigeria does not have any product that she exports that gives her much revenue except oil and the oil has been tied to loans taken by the previous and present administration
2.Nigeria is an import dependant nation, the nations economy is powered by imported products and infrastructures,by so doing our money is going out(Capital flight)and none is coming in.
3.The few industries remaining in Nigeria rely solely on imported raw materials even when they are readily available in the country
4.The government failed in revamping the Agricultural sector for mass and sustainable production of agricultural products for consumption and as raw materials for industries.
5.All the refineries in the country will be repaired and working at full installed capacity and putting a stop to fuel importation, this will surely bring down the pump price of fuel as a lot of cost has been cut off.
So,all these childish talk that things will get better is just a smokescreen to hoodwink guillable nigeria,it will take more than four years to put the economy on track with serious work. |
