As an NYSC member, you have just been posted to a New environment, to obey the clarion call. You need an apartment. Most place of Primary assignments have not been able to provide an accommodation. Or maybe the Corpers Lodge is not comfortable or maybe you know, there are big boys and girls who just need some privacy. Here are hints that might help you finding a good place to stay.

1. Get a place close to your Place of Primary assignment. You do not want to get a far apartment where you will have to spend #500 everyday on transportation to your PPA. That will not be too good. You should do the Math.

2. Beware of houses that the children of the original owners manage. You might end up paying rent to each of the children. It is possible. Just make sure the person in charge of the house is the real person in charge. Remember you do not know anyone here.

3. Try buying recharge card to know the type of neighbors you have. If the maximum you can get is only 200 naira, well, you know the kind of neighbors you have.

4. You don’t have a car and you want to rent house in a gated community where Okadas are not allowed to enter? Pity yourself o.

5. Bring out all your phones and modems to see which ones will get the strongest network signal. Start to give the strongest line to people that ask for your phone number. And with this age of internet, you need a strong network o.

6. Avoid houses that are near garages, whether Okada, keke Napep or bus garage. Apart from the noise and pollution, you know that NURTW change in leadership can be bloody. They use cutlasses, knives and the like to displace their ‘chairman’. You don’t want to get caught up in struggle for control of garage because your house is nearby. That is not part of the clarion call.

7. Ensure that a market is close or not too far. Chop Chop Corpers did not end during camp o.

8. Make sure the apartment is not too expensive. You can get one with a friend if that will not cause any future troubles. There is no NYSC allowance o.

9. Water is very important. If the house does not have a running tap, you should ask around where people fetch water and make sure its convenient for you.

10. If you notice a lot of shops in the neighborhood selling or repairing generators, it means light is not constant in that area. So you should think about that.

This delay of the NYSC 2017 batch A stream II has got so many people talking. Prospective Corp members have been expressing themselves on social media which is a very good thing.

The delay is getting out of hands as PCMs wait for news and the NYSC officials seems not to pay any attention.

It would be better if the NYSC official say something, let them provide a reason for the delay. But so far, they have been mute.

This has encouraged several replies they have been getting and we will continue to give it to them till they say something.

"Someone who's an indigene of the community said that Yekini is from this community and that his grave is not too far from where we were, so we all rushed down only to see a goat and chicken perch on his grave, the ladies that went with us started crying.

"I was so pleased to clean Rashidi Yekini grave throughout my one year of NYSC in his hometown in Kwara state, it makes me vow that someday in life if am fortunate enough I will rebuild it to a standard," he posted on Facebook.

In an exclusive chat with NAIJ.com, Oladimeji a member of the NYSC 2015/2016 set expressed sadness that the whole burial site is covered in broken tiles and he treks daily to clean it.

“The place is covered with broken tiles and a trekable distance from my lodge. I heard it was his younger brother Akeem who is said to be a bricklayer that fixed it to that level.

The 2014 graduate of the Houdegbe North American University, Benin Republic also narrated how his efforts to raise N460,000 to rebuild the project were frustrated.

"I went to my local inspector and told him everything which he told me to get an approval from the community king as well as the head of his family attached photographs quotation and printed design of how it will look like attached with a letter stating my request.

"I did and submitted it back to him as he has instructed me so he said to me that he will submit it to NYSC Kwara state chapters’ office for an approval before I will now start.

"As soon as my he sighted the figures on the quotation which amount to about 460k then immediately he became interested he started speaking elders language which I ignored.

"He later told me he has to be sincere with me that he misplaced the letter and that I should get another one which I did he started delaying it systematically again.

"It was at that point that I realized he was delaying it for me to pass out so that he can use the junior Corp members to execute the project for his personal interest," he lamented.

Oladimeji stated that he is now on course to rebuild the place, saying “I want to be hundred present transparent.” He also added that he will like to meet with the relatives of the late legend. Oladimeji Adeoti can be contacted on phone: 09092463145.

SUSSEX University Partners NYSC On Youth Development

Sussex University, a Prime institution of higher learning in the United Kingdom, reputed in the area of Development Studies is seeking to partner with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the area of youth development.

This was made known by the Professor of American History, Follet Richard, who led the delegation to the Directorate Headquarters of the NYSC in Abuja.

According to him, the university, which is an hour drive south of London, is interested in developing the youths and their talents in order to produce in them a proactive force for social development.

Tosin Adebisi, Nigerian and a member of the delegation, who is also an ex-corps member, added that he was indeed highly honoured with this privilege to give back to NYSC, the youths and indeed Nigeria in terms of youth development programme for corps members.
He requested for a visit by NYSC Management to Sussex University in order to meet with their Vice Chancellor and Management in order to formally cement this partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Suleiman Zakari Kazaure who was represented by the Director, Community Development Service and Special Projects, Mrs Rhoda Kaka Kwaki, welcomed the delegation and introduced the operations of the scheme to them.

Kazaure expressed confidence that the partnership would indeed be beneficial. He also coordinated an interactive session where both parties agreed to the need for instituting an NYSC/Sussex University Scholarship Programme which would ensure the further training of corps members in entrepreneurship development as well as training of selected NYSC staff who would facilitate the programme.

1. Logistics Reasons
One of the 7 Possible Reasons Why NYSC 2017 Batch A Stream II Camping Date is Delayed might be because of logistics.
Gone are those days, when there are no Batch B or Batch C or Stream I & II. All qualified graduates were mobilized once to serve their father land. However, as population increases, numbers of accredited Higher Institutions grows. The facilities at various orientation camps across Nigeria can no longer hold the populations, then the need for Batches and streams arose.

During the just concluded Stream I orientation camp, several Corp members slept outside at Lagos Camp. Imagine if there are no streams, the 3 weeks will be unbearable because each camp will be over crowded, uncontrollable and filled with sufferings.

A 27-year old NYSC Corps member identified as Rukayat Ahmed has approached a Jos Upper Area Court to dissolve her marriage with Alkasim Ahmed, after she filed a petition.

Rukayat,who is a resident of Jos, had approached the court seeking the dissolution of the marriage on the grounds that she was no more in love with Alkasim.

The woman, who filed a direct complaint to the court, argued that such separation was permissible in Islamic law, “if the partners are no more in love and therefore unwilling to live together”.

When the case was mentioned on May 25, the husband did not object to Rukayat’s demand.

At the resumption of hearing on the matter on Thursday, the Judge, Yahaya Ahmed, endorsed the separation of the couple and ordered the petitioner to refund the N80,000 paid as dowry by her husband, as applicable in Islamic law.

Rukayat promptly paid the money and walked away a free woman.

Obafemi Oluwatimilehin Paul, a corps member attached to Kebbi state, has died Wednesday evening after battling a disease called aplastic anaemia(a kind of situation where the bone marrow is exhausted that it can no longer produce enough blood)

Obafemi, a graduate of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, stream 1 set with state code KB/16/2111 developed the disease while in Kebbi.

After he graduated from FUTA without the sickness, he was posted to Kebbi state for NYSC. As soon as he got to Dakingari camp in Kebbi state, he began to feel extremely exhausted. After examination in Kebbi, he was told that his eyes were pale which is a symptom of low blood(anemia).

Obafemi redeployed to Oyo state for proper treatment. He was admitted at University College Hospital Ibadan where he constantly received blood transfusion both blood and platelets.

After all the fights and battles to stay alive, he died on Wednesday.

May His Soul Rest In Peace. May God comfort his family.
