There has been uproars in recent times about DNA test results coming out from laboratories in Nigeria.

Families have been torn apart with many children being exposed to the psychological trauma of being told that the men they grew up knowing and loving as their fathers are not their biological fathers.

Women have equally been embarrassed and humiliated by such DNA results. Even men are not left out as many have even attempted suicides upon hearing that the children they worked hard to raise are not theirs.

Culturally, the different Nigerian tribes and cultures believe that every child born in a marriage between a man and his wife belong to the man. In fact, in certain cultures, even after the couples separated but bride price was not returned, any child the woman has with other men while separated from her husband still belongs to the husband. There have been instances where the men died during the separation without having children (or even when they had children) and his family would go in search of the wife and in some cases they bring her home with children she bore in the course of the separation. Even if the woman was already living with another man, provided bride price has not been returned to her husband's family, any child she has with other men belong to the husband.

Therefore, if we had all the above practices in our cultures, why the hue and cry about DNA tests? Men should desist from doing DNA tests and embrace all children born to them by their wives. Government needs to intervene at this point by banning DNA tests in Nigeria so as to save many innocent children from being subjected to the trauma of being told that the man they knew and loved as their fathers is not their fathers. Such interventions will also help to protect our family system and the society at large.

Children are gifts from God and there's a whole lot of difference between siring a child and being a responsible father. I come in peace!

Was this what you abandoned ur work , ur child u were meant to visit and me , for? Then I was hit with "You thought I had forgotten how u insulted my womanhood and called me a whhóre. I will never forgive you".
