People love to say that there's no one to do these jobs except Mexican illegals. BULLs---.

Before, you would get teens to do these jobs. I think labor laws have always been different for farm work. This would be some people's first little job, or summer job. You also have a whole "back to the land" mother earth movement, so there's plenty of college kids that will do these jobs. You don't have to pay a teen or college kid much. And you can easily get grown people to do these jobs by simply paying a living wage, which isn't high in the south/Midwest where a lot of farms are, and by not compromising their health and safety. The only exception would maybe be California because the cost of living is so high, but farming is a huge industry for Cali, so I'm sure state and federal programs could help them figure it out.

CrimeRe: 'adult Crime, Adult Time': Row As Australian Territory Locks Up 10-year-olds by Cousin9999(op): 1:52am On Nov 26, 2024
The tough talk on crime isn't particular to politics in the Northern Territory. In Queensland's recent elections, the winning campaign by the Liberal National Party played heavily on its slogan: “Adult crime, adult time.” In a recent report by the Australian Human Rights Commission, Anne Hollonds, the National Children’s Commissioner, argued that by criminalising vulnerable children - many of them First Nations children - the country is creating "one of Australia's most urgent human rights challenges". “The systems that are meant to help them, including health, education and social services, are not fit-for-purpose and these children are falling through the gaps,” she said. “We cannot police our way out of this problem, and the evidence shows that locking up children does not make the community safer.” Which is why there's a growing push to fund early intervention through education, not incarceration, and trying to reduce marginalisation and disadvantage in the first place.

"What are the cultural strengths of people? What are the community strengths of people? We are building on that,” says Erin Reilly, a regional director for Children's Ground. Her organisation works with communities and schools on their ancestral lands, learning about foods and medicines from the bush and about the Aboriginal 'kinship’ system - how people fit in with their community and family. “We centre Indigenous world views and Indigenous values and we work in a way that works for Aboriginal people,” explains Ms Reilly. “We know that the education system and health systems don't work for our people."

But for people like Thomas, now 18, prison didn't fix anything. His crimes just got worse, and his time inside increased. He says he finds prison oddly comforting. It's not that he likes it, but with custody comes familiarity. "Most of my family has been in and out of jail. I felt like I was at home because all the boys took care of me." His two younger brothers are also stuck in a similar cycle. At one point, their mother was catching a bus to visit all three in prison every week. Thomas still wears an ankle bracelet issued by authorities but he has been out of prison for nearly three months now – his longest spell of freedom since becoming a teenager. He's been helped by Brother 2 Another - an Aboriginal-led project that mentors and supports First Nations children caught up in the justice system.

"Locking these kids up is just a reactive way to go about it," says Darren Damaso, a youth leader for Brother 2 Another. "There needs to be more rehabilitative support services, more funding towards Aboriginal-led programmes, because they actually understand what's happening for these families. And then we're going to slowly start to see change. But if it's just a 'lock them up' default action, it's not going to work." Mr Damaso is from the Larrakia Aboriginal people, the ancestral owners of the region of Darwin, and he also has connections to the Yanuwa and Malak Malak people. His organisation brings young people to a refashioned unit on an industrial estate on the outskirts of Darwin, providing a space to relax, a sensory room and a gym. Brother 2 Another also works in schools and tries to help young people find work - opportunities that many who've been involved with police and prisons struggle to engage with. "It's a self-perpetuating cycle,” says John Lawrence, a Scottish criminal barrister who's been based in Darwin for more than three decades. He's represented many young people and argues more money needs to go into schooling than the prison system, to prevent incarceration in the first place. Aboriginal people “have no voice, and so they suffer great injustice and harm", says Mr Lawrence. "The fact that this can happen reveals very graphically and obviously how racist this country is.”

On the day the laws started to be debated in Darwin last month, a small crowd of demonstrators stood outside parliament in a last-ditch effort to turn the political tide. One woman held up a placard that read: '10 year olds still have baby teeth'. Another asked: 'What if it was your child?' "Our young people in Don Dale need to have opportunity for hope," said Aboriginal elder, Aunty Barb Nasir, addressing the demonstrators. She was referring to a notorious youth detention centre just outside Darwin, where evidence of abuse - including video of a child wearing a spit hood and shackled to a chair - outraged many in Australia and led to a royal commission inquiry. "We need to always stand for them because they are lost in there," Aunty Barb said. Kat McNamara, an independent politician who opposed the bill, told the crowd: "The idea that in order to support a 10-year-old you have to criminalise them is irrational, ineffective and morally bankrupt." After a ripple of applause, she added: "We are not going to stand for it." But with a large majority in parliament, the CLP easily managed to pass the laws. Lowering the age of criminal responsibility undid legislation passed just last year that had briefly lifted the threshold to 12. And while other Australian states and territories have been under pressure to raise the age from 10 to 14, for now it is once again 10 across the country, with the exception of the Australian Capital Territory.

Australia is not alone – in England and Wales, for instance, it is also set at 10. But in comparison, the majority of European Union members make it 14, in line with UN recommendations.

The Northern Territory's Chief Minister, Lia Finocchiaro, argues that by lowering the age of criminal responsibility, authorities can "intervene early and address the root causes of crime". “We have this obligation to the child who has been let down in a number of ways, over a long period of time,” she said last month. "And we have [an obligation to] the people who just want to be safe, people who don't want to live in fear any more."

Crime'adult Crime, Adult Time': Row As Australian Territory Locks Up 10-year-olds by Cousin9999(op): 1:46am On Nov 26, 2024
'Thomas' - not his real name - was 13 years old when he began his first stint in prison. Following the sudden death of his father, he had robbed a shop in Australia’s Northern Territory (NT). He was detained for a week but, within a month, he was back in custody for another burglary. Five years on, the Aboriginal teenager has spent far more of that time inside prison than out. “It’s hard changing,” Thomas tells me. “[Breaking the law] is something that you grow up your whole life doing - it’s hard to [stop] the habit.” His story - a revolving door of crime, arrest and release - is not an isolated one in the Northern Territory. For many, over the years the crimes get more serious, the sentences longer and the time spent between prison spells ever briefer.

The Northern Territory is the part of Australia with the highest rate of incarceration: more than 1,100 per 100,000 people are behind bars, which is greater than five times the national average. It’s also more than twice the rate of the US, which is the country with the highest number of people behind bars. But the issue of jailing children in particular has been thrust into the spotlight here, after the territory's new government controversially lowered the age of criminal responsibility from 12 back to 10. The move, which defies a UN recommendation, means potentially locking up even more young people. It's not just an issue of incarceration. It's one of inequalities too. While around 30% of the Northern Territory's population is Aboriginal, almost all young people locked up here are Indigenous. So, Aboriginal communities are by far the most affected by the new laws. The Country Liberal Party (CLP) government says it has a mandate after campaigning to keep Territorians safe. It helped the party claim a landslide victory in August's elections.

But while the political rhetoric around crime is powerful, critics say it actually has little to do with real numbers. Youth offender rates have risen since Covid. Last year, there was a 4% rise nationally. But the rates are about half of what they were 15 years ago in the Northern Territory, Australian Bureau of Statistics figures show. Politicians, though, are playing to residents’ fears. As well as lowering the age of criminal responsibility, they have also introduced tougher bail legislation known as Declan's Law, after Declan Laverty, a 20-year-old who was fatally stabbed last year by someone on bail for a previous alleged assault. "I never want another family to experience what we have,” said his mother Samara Laverty. "The passing of this legislation is a turning point for the Territory, which will become a safer, happier, and more peaceful place."

Bottom of Frame
Drop down at least 12 inches from the top of the frame and repeat the same steps as above to form the base of the quail coop. Now there should be 2x4s surrounding the corner posts on all sides for the top and bottom of the cage area.

Brace for Bottom of Frame
Cut two or three strips from a 2×2 for the floor braces. Fasten the strips perpendicular to and between the long sides of the bottom of the frame.
You can add braces to the top for extra stability if you choose.

Build and Frame the Door
To make a simple door, form a square frame with 2x2s that will fit snugly between the upper and lower 2x4s of the cage. Attach hinges to the door (I recommend one that swings outward). Finally, cut two braces and fasten them to the frame on one of the long sides at the exact width of the door. This should form a square that the door will fit inside.

Cut Hardware Cloth and Attach
Cut pieces of hardware cloth that are larger than the bottom, sides, and door openings so you can staple it to the frame. Install the bottom piece on top of the braces. All other hardware cloth can be attached to the outside of the frame.

Add Roof
A roof only has to keep the coop dry and protected from direct sunlight. It can be a sheet of PVC roofing, aluminum, or pressure-treated wood.

Attach Door
Screw the free side of the hinges to the braces. At this stage, you have a coop for quail that is totally enclosed and ready to use.

The finishing touches for your quail coop include a door handle and latch, feeder and waterer, and nesting boxes if you plan to use them.

A quail tractor is another way to provide foraging opportunities for your quail, and it can help control pest problems around your home since quail will readily consume adult and larvae beetles, ants, roaches, bees, and wasps. A mobile quail coop can easily be moved into a shed if the weather is bad, or you can situate it to give your birds more or less sunlight. Any DIY backyard quail coop can be turned into a tractor-style with the addition of wheels and handles, so if you change your mind later, it’s easy to modify the quail coop design you initially chose.

Hutches are some of the most common coops for quail because they are up off the ground, which provides protection for the birds and can be more accessible for people of all ages, including those with mobility or health limitations. I ultimately went with a hutch style because it’s easy for me to work with, and when my nephews want to collect eggs and interact with the quail, it’s easily accessible for them, too. Hutch quail coops can be stacked or stand-alone, depending on the size of your flock.

The details of construction will vary, of course, depending on the type of DIY backyard quail coop you choose, but the basic process is the same. You’ll need to construct the main cage and add a door and roof — everything else is optional.

The steps I’ve provided below take you through the process of building a hutch style coop like the one in this video. You can adjust the quail cage size to accommodate the number of birds you’ll have, so I’ve left out specific dimensions so you can feel free to fill in the blanks based on your own space and needs.

Remember that each quail needs at least one square foot of space — and that’s the bare minimum. I recommend building your quail coop larger than you think you’ll need to give your quail a little more room.

Materials
Wood
Wood screws
¼-inch hardware cloth
Wire snips
Heavy duty staple gun
Roofing material

Top of Frame
Starting with 2×4 or 4×4 corner posts that are as tall as you want your quail coop to be, attach 2x4s on the outside of each to form the top of the cage. A helpful tip is to build the quail coop upside down, so those first 2x4s you attach will be sitting on the ground with the legs pointing up. This helps with leveling the boards and balancing the coop.

Pros and Cons of Different Quail Coops, and How to Build

After doing a little research, I quickly discovered that while quail does have some needs that require a specific habitat, creating a coop for quail can be done with little to no experience. Because I was determined to give my new feathered friends the best home possible, I looked through hundreds of layouts and talked to friends who already had quail to come up with a design that best suited my bank account and my lifestyle.

Coops for quail are a good idea primarily because, unlike some homestead animals that do well free-ranging, quails aren’t one of them. They are small and susceptible to many predators, including snakes, raccoons, foxes, and coyotes. Also, when raising quail in a controlled environment, you can provide everything they need for a happy, healthy life. By giving your quail a roomy but protected space, you can give them unlimited access to the things they need, from food and water to the dust baths that are an important part of grooming, leading to fewer parasites and diseases.

Building a cage for quail should take their safety into account before all else, so sturdy materials are a must. A cage for quail can be similar to other fowl coops, but there are some very important distinctions. For example, I had no idea that quail won’t use a ramp, so there’s no point in building a double-decker quail coop. I was surprised to learn how much space quail need. The minimum is 1 square foot per bird, not counting the area for feeders, waterers, and nesting boxes. Quail don’t roost on elevated surfaces, preferring to cluster on the ground even when sleeping, so you don’t have to add a roosting bar. But this means they’ll need ample floor space. Airflow through the quail coop helps with odors and minimizes the spread of diseases. Air can easily flow through the sides and bottom of most quail coop styles, so ventilation isn’t usually an issue. I wanted to be able to easily reach the quail, eggs, feeders, and waterers for cleaning so these chores weren’t a daily hassle. Deciding ahead of time how I would handle these tasks narrowed down the type of quail coop I wanted.

Since quail don’t mind being caged all the time, so long as they have plenty of space, you can easily stack quail coops to raise them on a homestead that’s one acre or smaller. You can stack several quail coops from the ground up or add legs and stack fewer quail coops so you can still reach them. If you forgo a wood cage for wire panels, you will cut your construction time exponentially. Wire cages just need to be fastened together with zip ties or wire clamps, and they are ready to use. You can purchase panels as short as three feet, which are perfect for these small birds. For a small quail coop, you could even use hardware cloth for the side panels. If it’s important to you to let your quail forage, ground quail coops are a great option. They offer extra space for quail to run around and can add diversity to their naturally omnivorous diet as they scratch up bugs, worms, and weed seeds. From a ground quail coop, you can easily let quail out into a safely fenced area or a run that still provides protection from predators while allowing them to stretch their little legs. Almost any quail coop can be converted to a ground coop design by removing the legs.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not agreeing with this woman on anything.

And I can understand if Davido, like many others, have concerns that foreigners may go to African nations with rose-colored glasses, and no plan.

But what Davido said was very, very inappropriate. The simple fact is that there are tons of foreigners (Indians, Chinese, Lebanese, Germans, Portuguese etc.) that go to any and every African nation, start businesses, and live way better than they did or could where they come from.
Foreign AffairsRe: Indian Tycoon Adani's US Indictment Rattles Stocks, Kenya Spikes Deal by Cousin9999(op): 7:29pm On Nov 25, 2024
Gautam Adani, Sagar Adani and Jaain did not respond to Reuters requests for comment. Each was charged with securities fraud, securities fraud conspiracy and wire fraud conspiracy, and the Adanis were also charged in the SEC civil case. "Gautam and Sagar Adani were engaged in the bribery scheme during a September 2021 note offering by Adani Green that raised $750 million, including approximately $175 million from U.S. investors," the SEC said. "The Adani Green offering materials included statements about its anti-corruption and anti-bribery efforts that were materially false or misleading in light of Gautam and Sagar Adani's conduct," it added. Another company allegedly involved in the scheme, Azure Power, was delisted from the New York Stock Exchange last November. Adani Group shares were hit hard in January 2023 after short-seller Hindenburg Research issued a report that accused it of improperly using offshore tax havens, which Adani Group denied. Following Wednesday's indictment, Hindenburg said in a statement that "since releasing our January 2023 report identifying Adani as the largest corporate con in history, we have never wavered in our view, nor has Adani ever refuted our findings." The group's market value had been $235 billion before Hindenburg's report sparked an approximately $150 billion meltdown.

Arrest warrants have been issued in the United States for Gautam and Sagar Adani and U.S. prosecutors plan to hand those warrants to foreign law enforcement, U.S. court records show. The defendants may seek to dismiss the indictment without appearing in person or being extradited pursuant to India's treaty with the United States. Prosecutors would oppose such a move, and a judge would review the merits before a possible trial. Prosecutors could also add more charges later, or defendants could plead guilty to some but not all charges they face.
In a statement, the Adani Group said: "The Adani Group has always upheld and is steadfastly committed to maintaining the highest standards of governance, transparency and regulatory compliance across all jurisdictions of its operations. "We assure our stakeholders, partners and employees that we are a law-abiding organization, fully compliant with all laws," it added.

Adani Group companies collectively lost about $27 billion in value in Thursday's trade in India, reducing their combined market capitalization to about $142 billion. Shares in Adani Green Energy plunged 19% and stocks for many other firms in the conglomerate, including flagship Adani Enterprises (ADEL.NS), opens new tab, lost more than 10%. Adani dollar bonds slumped, with prices down between 3-5c on bonds for Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone. Indian authorities, including the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) did not respond to requests for comment. An SEBI probe in the wake of the Hindenburg report is ongoing. Azure said it had been cooperating with U.S. authorities, and people named by them left the company more than a year ago. Indian opposition parties that have long complained that Adani and his conglomerate have been treated favorably by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government called for an investigation into allegations of wrongdoing. Modi and Adani, both from the western state of Gujarat, have denied impropriety.

Foreign AffairsIndian Tycoon Adani's US Indictment Rattles Stocks, Kenya Spikes Deal by Cousin9999(op): 7:28pm On Nov 25, 2024
NEW DELHI, Nov 21 (Reuters) - Indian billionaire Gautam Adani has been indicted for fraud by U.S. prosecutors and arrest warrants issued for him and his nephew for their alleged roles in a $265 million scheme to bribe Indian officials to secure power-supply deals. The crisis is the second in two years to hit the ports-to-power conglomerate founded by Adani, 62, one of the world's richest people. The fallout was felt immediately, as billions of dollars were wiped off the market value of Adani Group companies and Kenya's president canceled a massive airport project with the group. Adani Group said in a statement that the allegations made by the U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in a parallel civil case were "baseless and denied," adding it would seek "all possible legal recourse." U.S. authorities said on Wednesday that eight people, including Adani and his nephew Sagar, agreed to pay about $265 million in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain contracts expected to yield $2 billion of profit over 20 years, and to develop India's largest solar power plant project. It is unclear whether Gautam or Sagar Adani will appear in court, as they could try to get the indictment dismissed without appearing in the United States. Gautam Adani's whereabouts are unclear, and none of the defendants are in custody, a spokesperson for U.S. Attorney Breon Peace in Brooklyn said. Kenyan President William Ruto said on Thursday he ordered the cancellation of a procurement process that was expected to hand control of the country's main airport to Adani Group in a deal worth nearly $2 billion.

Following the news, Adani Green Energy (ADNA.NS), the company at the center of the case, canceled a scheduled $600 million U.S. bond sale. White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre played down any impact from the case on U.S.-India relations, saying the countries would "continue to navigate this issue, as we have with other with other issues that may have come up." Rick Rossow, head of the India program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, however, said the indictment added a "chill" to relations.
"The positive side of the ledger still probably outweighs the negative, but this will feed into a continued sentiment in India that the United States will employ dirty tricks to slow India’s rise as a global power," Rossow said.

U.S. authorities said the Adanis and Adani Green Energy's former CEO Vneet Jaain had raised more than $3 billion in loans and bonds by hiding their corruption from lenders and investors. U.S. law bars foreign companies which raise money from U.S. investors from paying bribes overseas to win business. It is also against U.S. law to raise money from investors on the basis of false statements. According to prosecutors, Adani Green Energy raised money from U.S. investors and submitted financial documents falsely stating it had not paid any government officials to secure an improper advantage. Gautam Adani is worth $69.8 billion, according to Forbes magazine, making him India's second-richest person after Mukesh Ambani. Sagar Adani is an executive director at Adani Green Energy and oversees its "strategic and financial matters."

“Jackie had visions of helping poor children and Beau was right beside her,” said Stewart, who had worked with Beau during Detroit Lakes’ Festival of Birds, an annual birdwatching event hosted by the city of nearly 10,000. Beau volunteered to lead many of the birdwatching tours, said Stewart, who is the city’s tourism director. “He was really good as a field trip leader, really good at describing things,” said Stewart, adding that Beau could easily describe 1,000 different bird species. “He really knew his birds.” The Shroyers sold their $300,000 bungalow in Callaway, Minnesota, in 2021, according to public records and settled in for language school in Brazil, where they learned Portuguese, said Jackie during the presentation before the family’s trip. The family was originally supposed to go to Portugal to learn the language, but the country would not allow foreigners into the country during the COVID pandemic, she said. “I wouldn’t say anybody in my family is excited about it,” Jackie told her Lakes Area Vineyard Church congregation in a May 2021 video presentation, adding that her mother and sister were very involved in the lives of their children and worried about the couple’s decision to leave their home in the US. “Before I became a mother, I saw pictures of children in extreme poverty,” Jackie said. “It just wrecked me. I need to go and do something and I began praying to God over the years. The only thing worse than lost children in the world is the lost children no one is looking for.”

By the time they returned to seek more donations from congregants this summer, the Shroyers confessed that life in Africa was a culture shock. For one thing, their five children were “constantly battling malaria” and they were dealing with a lot of difficult security issues. They admitted they didn’t trust the guards who were charged with watching their compound in Lubango and had endured two break-ins while they sleeping. During their video presentation this summer, they said they were in the process of hiring new guards. “No matter how hard it is, we want to go back,” said Jackie, looking markedly thinner in a July video of the family’s presentation at their church. She spoke enthusiastically about setting up a soup kitchen that feeds 300 street children outside their home once a week, and about a “breakfast club” where she teaches children to memorize Bible verses in exchange for prizes. Their 10-year-old son Oakley had even made a good friend in Bebezinho, a 10-year-old Angolan boy. “He was the first one to come to the door,” Jackie said of Bebezinho, adding that the children they helped called the couple Auntie Jackie and Uncle Beau.

For his part, Beau seemed to be enjoying his time in Africa. He posted a photo of himself getting his hair cut at a modest barbershop where he had helped the owner obtain a barber’s license. He was also trying to establish a farm outside the city on the Humpata Plateau — where he was murdered. SIM had managed to convince the Angolan government to cede seven acres for their project, and Beau was organizing the cultivation of the land. He said he hoped to build a well but needed to construct a security fence beforehand. “Every component of the well would be stolen, probably overnight,” he said, adding that he hoped to raise $150,000 to build a 10-foot-high security fence topped with razor wire to keep thieves out of the property. “Beau wasn’t a perfect man,” said his pastor Troy Easton during a church service last week in Detroit Lakes, according to a report. “He was just like the rest of us. He didn’t get it right all of the time. Just like you don’t, just like I don’t. But he did believe in and trust Jesus. … We can rejoice and find comfort in the truth that he is forever with the King.” Still, it’s difficult to comprehend what Easton called “the unimaginable.”

“The news of Beau’s death, along with, now, the heartbreaking news of Jackie’s arrest in connection with his death has overwhelmed us with grief and speculation and confusion,” he said. SIM is a nonprofit that employs 4,000 workers in 70 countries, according to its website. It has been sending information on the Stroyers’ situation back to their congregation in Minnesota. “SIM remains committed to supporting the ongoing pursuit of justice for Beau and has taken steps to ensure that Jackie has appropriate legal representation,” said the church group in a statement on its website, adding that it is working with its sister organization in Angola. The statement said the Shroyer children were still in Africa and were being “well cared for.”

Minnesota missionary Beau Shroyer was murdered in a crime of passion orchestrated by his wife, police in Angola claim.

Beau, wife Jackie Shroyer and their five children had been in “the remote bush” in the West African nation since setting up a mission there in 2021. Angolan police said a guard hired by the family stabbed Beau to death in his vehicle on Oct. 25 in the bush outside the city of Lubango, where the family lived in a walled compound. Jackie and two others were arrested for allegedly organizing the hit, according to the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) of the Angolan police. A third man is at large, the police said. “I just don’t have any words,” Carl Gessell, a friend of the couple in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, told The Post. “I’m shocked that this even happened. I can’t believe she would do something like that.” Manuel Halaiwa, an SIC spokesman, said authorities have “strong suspicions” that Jackie was having an affair with the family’s recently hired bodyguard, Bernardino Isaac Elias, 24.

Jackie allegedly promised $50,000 for the hit on her husband, and gave the guard $400 to help plan the attack in the remote bush area near the municipality Humpata, where Beau was helping to start a farm, according to press reports and the police. Elias, in turn, allegedly hired two other men to kill Beau — Isalino Musselenga Kayoo, a 23-year-old convicted felon nicknamed “Vin Diesel,” who is in custody, and Gelson Guerreiro Ramos, 22, who was still at large Monday, according to the police. Three days before the murder, police say, Jackie went with Elias to scout the crime scene. The men rented a car on the day of the killing and drove to Humpata, 40 minutes from Lubango.

The suspects faked car trouble, and called Beau for help, police said. When the couple arrived, Jackie excused herself and went into the bush, claiming she needed to go to the bathroom, according to the SIC. Authorities said they found the US-made knife that was used in the stabbing death — a gift from Jackie to her alleged lover, SIC claimed.
The Shroyers had been working for SIM USA, a North Carolina-based evangelical Christian organization which sponsored their youth ministry and has been overseeing missions around the world since 1893. SIM said it is ensuring that Jackie has legal representation, and according to spokesperson Mark Bosscher, no formal charges have been filed against Jackie yet. Friends of the family contacted by The Post said they were shocked but don’t want to say anything publicly until Angolan authorities complete the investigation. The State Department confirmed that an American had died in Angola, but refused further comment. Authorities in Angola could not be reached for comment last week.

Before they moved to Angola in 2021, the Shroyers had never lived abroad. Despite concerns from their family and friends after they announced they were preparing to go to Africa to set up a mission for children under 18, the Shroyers were excited about their adventure and about the challenge of helping impoverished kids in one of the world’s poorest countries.

“Beau told me that God led him in a different path,” Gessell, 45, who works as a DoorDash driver and is a member of Beau and Jackie’s Detroit Lakes church, said in an interview with The Post. Before heading to Angola, Beau worked as a local realtor and police officer. “He said he was able to help a lot of people when he got to Angola,” Gessell said. “He was a caring person, the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back.” Gessell told The Post that Beau had promised to meet him for coffee when he was in the US over the summer, but the meeting never took place. “I can’t see his wife doing that,” said Gessell, who has known the couple for a few years. “It’s got to be something else. But, you know, I don’t know if something happened between there and here.” Others remembered Beau and his wife as deeply religious. Family friend Cleone Stewart said the family moved to Africa at Jackie’s urging.

Foreign AffairsKenya Moves Forward With Plans For Country's First Nuclear Power Plant by Cousin9999(op): 6:52pm On Nov 25, 2024
Officials with Kenya's Nuclear Power and Energy Agency (NuPEA) said the country is on track to start construction on its first nuclear power plant by 2027. The group at a parliamentary hearing this month said the facility would begin generating power by 2034. Kenya's move is the latest by an African nation as more countries on the continent consider building nuclear power stations to supply electricity amid burgeoning demand for power. Rwanda last year signed a deal with Canada's Dual Fluid Energy for a test reactor that would use liquid fuel and lead coolant, resulting in less radioactive waste, the Rwanda Atomic Energy Board said in a statement at that time. Officials said the country has a goal of at least 1 GW of nuclear power generation by 2031. Winnie Ndubai, NuPEA's director of strategy and planning, told Kenya's Senate Energy Committee that two coastal locations are being considered as potential sites. Local media have reported that the proposed plant would be built in Kilifi County, a region known for its beaches and dense mangrove forests, and one of the country's top tourist destinations. Ndubai said officials are still working on a regulatory framework for nuclear power in the country.

The 1,860-MW Koeberg plant near Cape Town in South Africa is the only operating nuclear power plant on the African continent. Russia's state-owned Rosatom nuclear group is building the four-unit El Dabaa power station in Egypt, with the first of four VVER-1200 reactors expected to enter operation in 2026. Government officials in Uganda last week said that country is pursuing plans to build an 8.4 GW nuclear power station in the eastern Buyende District. The country said it is working on a nuclear cooperation agreement with Russia. South Korean energy companies also have said they want to export their technology to Africa.

Kenyan officials have said the country needs nuclear power is essential to meet its long-term energy needs. The Ministry of Energy has estimated that power demand in Kenya could increase 20-fold by mid-century due to rapid industrial development. The country currently generates about 90% of its electricity from renewable resources, including geothermal, hydro, wind and solar. Local media earlier this year said the nuclear power plant would be a 1,000-MW facility that would cost about 500 billion Kenyan shillings ($3.7 billion). Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi in August of this year said a research reactor would be commissioned by the early 2030s. "Kenya is committed to leading in clean energy. Kenya is focused on advancing nuclear technology as part of Kenya's sustainable energy strategy," Mudavadi said in a statement. Questions remain about the viability of nuclear power in Kenya because the government has yet to release detailed plans for a power station. Officials also have not announced a contractor for the project. Some groups, including Greenpeace, have said a nuclear power plant should not be built, urging more investment in renewable energy resources such as solar and wind. The Kenya Anti-Nuclear Alliance in a statement earlier this year said, "Instead of pursuing a nuclear program that puts the lives and livelihoods of our people at risk, we urge the government to invest in renewable energy sources that are safer, cleaner, and more sustainable." Kenya, along with Nigeria, joined the "Declaration to Triple Nuclear Energy" at the recent COP29 United Nations climate conference in Baku, Azerbaijan. The strategy is a pledge to increase global nuclear power capacity by 300% by 2050. Ghana and Morocco, two other African nations, signed the declaration upon its launch last year.

Thats where you have made a mistake the oldest cradle of intelligence is in Africa. The term university is western nomenclature which they have used to cripple us to worship their systematic & mordern brain drain.

A mere Educated african on the street will look down on an eletrician forgetting that without them no power for him at home. In the desert your money is nothing, your education wont fix practical things around you.

Even an eletrical engineer depends on the practical skills of the eletrical technician to get imagined results to light.

Do you know how much these people make in western countries? Even in Nigeria. They wont tell you. Average Nigerian or the average educated African will be a civilized begger soon if he dont get his hands dirty or get technical IT skills.

Aristotle, plato, socrates are bunch of information theives. They stole from Africas originality. Brand ambassadors of Education 😆, they were only able to handle little amount of Africas vast information and sold it as education. Withholding fundermental truth that every labor and system, especially trades is just as important.
This is an aggressive Straw Man, my friend. Please leave the beer alone.

Procashtips:
That's not the reason they don't want female children, it's more of legacy (preserving the family name) so they have a cap on how many children they can have.
It is. They've been doing it for ages, long before the cap.

Today, it's about cash. Before, it was about who would do the most work on farmland. Regardless, many see their child as an investment.

Procashtips:
As for molding, it's more of competition, they're so competitive in China that everyone wants their children to be top of the class in all spheres of life.
They have a culture of "face." However, it's not a competitive culture that fuels that behavior. It's poverty, a high population (competition for jobs), almost no labor rights, and a poor social safety net.

Procashtips:
Lastly, most Chinese homes don't depend on their children to feed them in old age, they have a govt that cares for the elderly unlike most of African countries.
China has always struggled to establish a clear retirement system. Elder poverty is common, especially in rural areas...Pensions are built on what is now a three-tiered system that advantages urban workers over rural ones, as with nearly every aspect of the Chinese welfare state...But even developed Confucian countries have higher rates of elder poverty, suggesting that family obligations can’t substitute for a state system.
https://foreignpolicy.com/2024/09/17/china-raises-retirement-age-pension-economy/

It is difficult for migrant workers to find jobs that pay for social security for 15 years--the prerequisite for getting a pension when retired. Workers are worried that the retirement age reform would make things even harder.

There is a disparity in social security coverage and benefits between urban workers and migrant workers. Many migrant workers still have to work after the retirement age, with little or no social security. Precarious and informal employment across sectors is a significant reason and will likely continue with the growing gig economy.

Education is important so as all other trades and people must be free to choose how they want to get that education and not be segregated for it based on institutionalization.
You stated:
Degrees are no longer what we will expect from it. That time is gone
This is an anti-education statement. This is a statement encouraging less choice.

zinaunreal:
In Africa the priorities education especially tertiary like its the forefront of civilization . Civilization is intelligence , intelligence is not education . Education is just an institution.
I disagree with some aspects of this statement, but I don't feel like getting into a long discussion.

zinaunreal:
Institution is what Africans worship as presented by these same whites who know that Civilization is fundermental knowledge and understanding of our world and the elements that makes it up. They are the backbone of infrastructures
The oldest university in the world is in Africa.

zinaunreal:
Like the masons of the past and the likes, you cannot have Civilization without today's technicians & trade workers, real skill workers who have intimated understanding of their skills.
No one is arguing against that. The problem is being anti-education and making statements like this:
Degrees are no longer what we will expect from it. That time is gone
Furthermore, you can get a trade at a university.

zinaunreal:
They are not stupid they are experts too. They must be given their due respect and these jobs are what Nigerian graduates are running back to just to survive.
This is a straw man.

zinaunreal:
Education can make its come back later because its of no survivability right now with graduates trying to make end meet
LOL WTF I hope you look back on this and realize how ridiculous you sound.

Procashtips:
As for what you said, majority of Nigerian parents have children so that they can serve them when they become old even when they left them nothing as inheritance or a good foundation to grow on- Pure selfishness
Many Chinese will say the same thing about their own people. But Chinese are far worse because they basically abuse their kids to mold them into the highest earning investment. And they also get rid of female children mainly because they don't think they can extract as much money out of them.

This is probably one of the trade high schools. Every state has them. Some people look down on them because they feel as though it means they're not aiming high for their kid.
