Remain a good man, and don't let people like that change you. Just move wiser. It doesn't make it okay, but the main reason this happens is a lack of opportunities, limited/no social safety net, and a major problem with sexism. It's also a product of dysfunctional families. |

As long as the place you left isn't horrible, and you didn't burn any bridges, why would it be bad? And a lot could have changed in the time you weren't there, for better or worse. However, if you're taking a pay cut to do so and don't see better opportunities opening up to you there, you obviously don't want to stay too long. But it's also a matter of personal goals and preferences. Some people would rather have security than a high salary. |

NAIROBI, Oct 25 (Reuters) - Kenya's high court on Friday suspended a $736 million deal between a state utility and India's Adani Energy Solutions to build and operate power infrastructure including transmission lines. The public-private partnership agreement between state-owned Kenya Electrical Transmission Company (KETRACO) and Adani Energy Solutions (ADAI.NS), opens new tab was signed earlier this month. On Oct. 11 the energy ministry said it would help address persistent power blackouts and support economic growth. The high court said the government could not move ahead with the 30-year agreement with Adani Energy Solutions until the court makes a determination on a case brought by Law Society of Kenya challenging the deal. The law society has argued that the power deal is "a constitutional sham" and "tainted with secrecy". The law society also said KETRACO and Adani Energy Solutions did not carry out meaningful public participation around the project, a requirement under Kenya's Public Private Partnerships Act of 2021 which allows private sector development of public projects. The energy ministry said previously that it had run a competitive bidding process. A spokesperson for Adani Group did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Adani Group, founded by Indian billionaire Gautam Adani, sparked anger in Kenya recently for another proposed public-private partnership project to lease the country's main airport for 30 years in exchange for expanding it. The Law Society of Kenya, along with the Kenya Human Rights Commission, has also challenged the proposed airport deal in court, saying it is unaffordable, threatens job losses and does not offer value for money. https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/kenyan-court-suspends-736-million-adani-power-line-deal-2024-10-25/ |
LOL The email address for the public to comment on laws proposed in Kenya’s Senate has crashed after an overwhelming response to a controversial bill. The bill seeks to extend the terms in office for the president, county governors and MPs from five to seven years, among other constitutional amendments. The plan was met with public anger and Kenyans have been mobilising on social media. The upper house of the country’s parliament received more than “200,000 submissions, reaching the maximum capacity”, said a post on the Senate’s X account. Even though it was put forward by one of its senators, Samson Cherargei, the party of President William Ruto has distanced itself from the plan. United Democratic Alliance (UDA) secretary-general Hassan Omar had earlier described the bill as “repugnant and backward”, the Nation newspaper reports. Cherargei defended his plan saying that seven years would give the president and others enough time to deliver on their pledges. The public had until Friday to share their thoughts. Sources within parliament told The Star newspaper that emails were sent every second, adding that no bill had received such a number of responses. While thanking people for their submissions, the Senate said that “due to high volumes… our email system has temporarily experienced issues”. It then provided an alternative address. As well as increasing term lengths, the bill sets out to create the position of prime minister and increase funding to the county administrations. A senate committee is now due to evaluate the public responses. The proposed legislation comes at a time when Kenyan lawmakers are under intense scrutiny and as people continue to struggle with the high cost of living. A series of demonstrations, beginning in June, against measures to increase taxes turned violent and led to at least 40 deaths. The president then reversed his plans and sought to appease the mood by including opposition members in his cabinet. But a deep cynicism about politicians remains and anything that smacks of extending their time in power is met with derision. This is the second attempt to change the two-term limit on presidents since Ruto came to office in 2022. Two years’ ago, a ruling party MP wanted to replace it with an age limit of 75 years. However, the proposal failed after a public outcry. The president has previously rejected the scrapping of the term limit, calling the attempt "unnecessary and an exercise in futility". https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cp8xm645pjjo |

I would recommend some French films to watch, but the French-speaking world makes a lot of stuff that's fake deep, racist, or really twisted. But if you're going to choose something, I think the Canadian stuff is probably the most harmless (IDK, haven't watched much), and the French is easy to understand. Canadians speak French like an American that learned it yesterday. But listening to some music from Haiti, DRC, Senegal, and Cote D'Ivoire won't disappoint. You will be hearing a dialect, but it's still a good resource. And they're some real singers and dope guitarists. And you should definitely learn to kompa dance too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzDZzOB4Yso |

Great thread. People need to learn how you can do amazing things with just a little startup money. |
Also Evolutionary/biological reasons why women respond more to male upper body musculature: 1.) Associated with fighting ability, and specifically ability to protect. 2.) Associated with greater ability to acquire resources. 3.) Indicates health (disease resistance) and access to resources (food). |
It seems like a significant percentage of men who struggle with their sexual orientation are very angry with women, even to the point of abuse. Which I don't get. How/why does that end up being directed at women? This also reminds me of how ancient Romans would sleep with men because they didn't think very much of women. And even today in West Asia, a lot of men sleep with men because, again, they have a very low opinion of women, don't interact with them much, and don't even allow them to have public lives (Islam). |
legitnow1:I think that's part of it. But I think maybe a bigger part of it is internalized racism, and also the simple fact that many of these South Africans are mulattos, they're not even black people. But maybe I'm wrong. I don't know if there's history of them going after nonblack men for "taking" their women. Asian men are in a similar position, but they don't spaz out over foreign men dating their women really. They'll even hook foreign men up with their women. A few might get angry, but usually those men are viewed as losers/jealous. If Asian men do notice one too many women going for foreigners, that drives them to change how they are rather than attack the guys. However, some of them do turn up social pressure on women not to date out. But again, they direct that at the women, not the foreign men. |
descarado:Sorry, my bad. I didn't look hard at that pic. I thought it was liquor. ![]() |
Edit: Thought the pic was alcohol. But this is still good info. You know, I never thought alcohol was so bad before unless someone really abused it. But it does bizarre things to the body. A lot of things that people think are caused by old age, are actually from alcohol. https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/about-dementia/types-dementia/alcohol-related-brain-damage-arbd Did you know alcohol can make your joints die? The increased fat content of the blood causes blockage of the blood vessels. The head of the femur is especially susceptible to decreased blood flow and it may lead to aseptic necrosis/cell death.https://www.cortho.org/general/alcohol-intake-avascular-necrosis-of-the-hip/ |
peterboro:This is why and this is who:

1.) Some people just don't have the genetics for muscular legs regardless of how hard they train. 2.) Some men are only training to attract women, so they focus on upper body because that's what women tend to notice. 3.) Some men are former inmates. And for various reasons, they focus on upper body training in prison. 4.) Some men might think it's feminine or "gay" to build the lower body up (it's not). They're maybe afraid they'll get a big booty. |
We used to make fun of people for doing this stuff. Now you have women walking around looking like a dinosaur or something from a horror movie, and there are actually dudes that find it attractive. Wild. |

Unless someone is elderly, has some sort of health condition, or both parents work very long hours, the only reason they hire people as "house help" is so they can pretend they're rich and have servants, and so they can abuse these people. It's a disgusting practice that needs to stop. People try to normalize it by claiming these people are being helped, but they're just being exploited. It's human trafficking. |

armyofone:Crayfish, crawfish, and crawdads are the same thing. Prawns are just really big shrimp. Langoustines are another type of shellfish that looks like a crawfish, but they're actually a type of lobster. But they basically all offer the same flavors to whatever dish you would want to use one of them for with slight differences in flavor (e.g. sweeter) and texture. |
