Whites don't relax like us sha. Founders of cloudflare are now billionaires what if they used WordPress to start a blog instead, will they be where they are now?

The founders of themeforest.net, eleganttheme.com, wootheme.com are all millionaires. It's not every web developer that will invent a product, service or application. There are those that wil be coding themes, templates, plugins, modules for cms. Nobody is afraid of coding stuff from scratch.

Webmasters / Re: Please Help: Problem Login Into Cpanel by CreativeWeb(m): 8:32am On May 03, 2015
Are you using mordem and are you using airtel network? The problem is that your ip is dynamic and not static. Airtel has this issue a lot because their ip changes every second. Since cpanel is a very sensitive application, when the ip changes, it logs you out immediately. You need a static ip to access cpanel. Try using etisalat or another network. There is nothing wrong with your cpanel. In fact, this happened to me last two weeks and I discovered that the problem was the dynamic ip of airtel.

Your post is useless. Very useless. Did Google create a new OS before starting their search engine?

Pls read up and see some of my points I highlighted.

I am not against coding from sratch. I am not against using cms or framework to speed up development.

What I want us to do is to learn how to write codes and also how to use cms and framework. If a project demands writing codes from scratch, we wil do it. If it demands using a cms, we will do it. And since most clients prefer cms, we wil continue to serve them.

Cant we just develop or invent something for the world to use? Something like facebook, google, whatsapp? Again, I said, not every web developer has the passion to invent anything because of what invention entails (maintenance, updates, security patches, support, etc) and so they are ok offering services to clients and making a good livig. Again, the mark of a good developer is not whe he develops a custom application. He can also be known for developing themes and plugins for wordpress.

Because google knew there was no need of a new OS. Because google knew that the world was and still comfortable with the OS on ground. But there was a great need that time to reinvent the search engine and so they gave us a search engine. Writing cms off is not fair.

So why didn't they build Facebook.com with a cms and google.Com with cms?
Imagine if LindaIkeji had talented programmers how blog could have grown into something bigger. Coding is good. CMS is just a small thing

Will it be fair to ask you to:
1. Develop your own programming language and stop using php, ruby or python?

2. Develop your own operating system and stop using windows, linux or ubuntu?

Pls dont just write cms off. I want a situation a Nigerian can become a wordpress guru and be known to have developed several plugins and themes for wordpress. I want a Nigerian that will be part of wordpress core team and develop security patches and updates for wordpress.

The mark of a programmer is not flexing muscle and coding an OS from scratch alone. A good web developer lavarages on the strengths of others. 99% of web developers all over the world are using one cms or framework to speed up development.

If you want to build an application like whatsapp, that is a different thing. Not every programme is required to develop an application like whatsapp. Building a custom app is not the only mark of a developer. A good developer can also be known by developing themes and plugins for wordpress.

It will amount to technology foolishness for me to code a cms from scratch just to have a blog. I can still be a great programmer and still use wordpress for my blog. Linda Ikeji will not be more successful than she is now if she had gotten developers to code a custom blog cms for her.

Here are my points:
1. If you have a good solution on ground, use it and create success.

2. If there is no solution on ground, make history by providing a solution.

3. If there is a solution on ground, but you have a better idea, go on and make your idea a reality.

4. Learn to code, but dont be too hard on yourself to code every project from scratch.

5. Learn html, css, js and php (or any serverside language), then learn one or two cms (wordpress or joomla), then learn one or two frameworks (laravel or yii). If you get a project, give them two options. Custom app (This wil take months and more money) or Cms (This wil take few days and less money). If a client chooses a custom app, i wil do it, if he chooses a cms, I will do it. Which over way, am succeeding.

You stil dont get it. They built facebook and google as custom app because there was no solution on ground. They used wordpress for their blog because there was a solution on ground.

We will continued to code from scratch if the needs arise. We will continue to use cms to speed up thingsa and not to reinvent the wheel.

There is no joy repeating what someone has done well.

@op so we should forget about programming then? And learn how to use cms? They is more to development than working for a client.
What CMS is Google.com using?
What cms is quickteller.com using?
Or what cms is YouTube using?

I do not think you understand my post. Read it again and tell me why facebook is using wordpress in newsroom.fb.com and why google is using wordpress in gv.com.

Using cms is good. Coding a custom application is good. You cannot accept one and condemn another.

It's like asking why people use paypal or voguepay to accept payment when they can code their own payment processing application.

In response to this thread: https://www.nairaland.com/2287661/why-nigerians-love-cms-plugins

It is good to note that it's not only Nigerians that love CMS, Framwork or Plugins. It's a global phenomenon.

The point is DON'T EVER RE-INVENT THE WHEEL!
Unless there is something outrighly different you want to offer.
CMS or Framework is not a bad idea.

If you have ever used Microsoft Word to type a letter, then you have used a CMS.
If you have ever used Photoshop to crop your picture, then you have used a CMS.

Just imagine developing your own Word Editor like MS Word just to type a letter.

The problem we should be looking at is: Our inability to make CMS, Framework or plugins better.

We should not just use wordpress and joomla basically. We should learn how to unleash the powers of wordpress and joomla by forking them and turning them around to achieve amazing things.

Mashable.com was using wordpress. Mashable is one of the biggest blogs in the world. It was later that they developed a custom cms for their blog.

New York Times blog is running on A CMS (wordpress). The official website of the government of USA is running on a CMS (drupal).

Even facebook (http://newsroom.fb.com/), google (http://www.gv.com/), mozilla (https://blog.mozilla.org/), and blackberry (http://blogs.blackberry.com/) are using a CMS (wordpress) in their blogs. Why didn't they develop a blog cms for their blogs? That will not important since there is a good one on ground.

What I will challenge every web developer in Nigeria is to learn the in and out, hooks and functions of some of these CMSes and start developing themes, templates and plugins for them.

As technology evolves, web development will continue to be easier. It will amount to taking people back to the stone age to insist on coding from scratch for every project.

Thank you.

He's not a computer or internet savvy. And so after our discussion last night, I promised him that I will get some good suggestions for him from somewhere (nairaland).

I actually suggested Nivea products for him. I personally use Olay products.

But I want to get some other good suggestions from fashion and beauty professionals here.

The issue is that the fiancee is naturally beautiful. Tall and Slim. She's fair, but not too fair. She is a nice girl raised in the North (Maduguiri) although she's from south-east. So she lacks that makeup sense.

They are getting ready for marriage in months time, and he wants to work on her skin.

Which soap, cream and face cleanser will you recommend?

Thank you.

Politics / Re: GEJ Vs. GMB: The Statistics by CreativeWeb(m): 10:40am On Mar 30, 2015
CURRENTLY, we have popular votes as follows:
1. Core North (North-West and North-East): Buhari 60% and Jonathan 40%
2. Middle Belt: Buhari 40% and Jonathan 60%
3. South-West: Buhari 45% and Jonathan 55%.
This is roughly what it translated to:
Buhari: 60 + 40 + 45 = 145 votes.
Jonathan: 40 + 60 + 55 = 155 votes.

Jonathan has won 90 of every 100 votes from the South-East. He has also won 95 of every 100 votes from the South-South.
Buhari has also won 10 out of every 100 votes from the South-East and 5 out of every 100 votes from the South-South.
This more or less translated into:
Jonathan: 90 + 95 = 185 votes
Buhari: 10 + 5 = 15 votes.

If we tally all the total votes from the six regions altogether, we have the below result:
Jonathan: 155 + 185 = 330 votes
Buhari: 145 + 15 = 260 votes.

From the above calculation, Jonathan is projected to have more popular votes than Buhari. He will also have at least 24 states with 25% of the entire vote cast.Jonathan deservedly has won the election.

Politics / GEJ Vs. GMB: The Statistics by CreativeWeb(m): 10:23am On Mar 30, 2015
As I write this, Jonathan has taken 40% of the total vote cast from Buhari's strongholds of North-West and North-East. These two regions have 13 States. Jonathan has also met the 25% requirement of the total vote cast in 6 of the States. He is unlikely to meet the 25% of the entire vote cast in the remaining 7 States.

However, Buhari has been so unfortunate in Jonathan's strongholds of the South-East and the South-South. He has not been able to secure 25% of the entire vote cast in any one of the 11 States within the regions.

The four areas of North-West (7); North-East (6); South-South (6) and South-East (5), have 24 States altogether. Buhari has met the mandatory requirement of 25% of the total vote cast in 13 of the 24 States. Jonathan on the other hand has secured the 25% of the total vote cast in 17 of the 24 States.

In terms of the popular vote cast, Jonathan has won 40 of every 100 votes cast in Buhari's strongholds of North-West and the North-East.
Nevertheless, in Jonathan's strongholds of the South-South and the South-East, Buhari has only managed to win 5 of every 100 votes. Jonathan is clearly leading in terms of the popular votes too.

We are left with Middle Belt and the Yoruba South-West. With the information now still clearly inconclusive, Jonathan has won 4 of the 6 States from the Middle Belt and also running in terms of the popular vote cast. In the instance of the Yoruba South-West, it is too close to call. Jonathan is clearly required to win this region.
