Literature / Re: The Unbreakable Record Of Chinua Achebe's "Things Fall Apart" by creatorjc(m): 12:44pm On Aug 06, 2007
The simplicity of the narrative and the originality of the language make Things Fall Apart the first African novel of choice. The title is perfect and the universal attraction of the title has indeed kept the novel evergreen till date.
Because, things fall apart everywhere, from Nigeria to Zimbabwe to Iraq. And things will always fall apart on earth.

it's nice to see you say something complimentary of the "iroko" of African prose,Chinua Achebe,at least for once.Well, nobody has said "Half of a yellow sun" was a modern classic, why THEN are you claiming so?anyway, written any poetry collection so far?i honestly love to see one,HONESTLY,
Literature / Re: Wole Soyinka and Chinua Achebe who is the Greatest by creatorjc(m): 4:43pm On Jul 25, 2007

Literature / Re: What do you think of Chinua Achebe? Wole Soyinka? by creatorjc(m): 6:07pm On May 26, 2007
As a way of correction,Soyinka did not win the Nobel peace prize. He won the Nobel LITERATURE prize in 1986 and dedicated his prize to Africa.I remember that when Achebe was asked to comment about the prize,he called it "a European affair" and "a case of beating the white to his own game".Contrary to what some people think about Achebe,he did not suckle because of the prize. No,he didn't!I personally believe that what stands Achebe out from Soyinka and other new generation African writers is the SIMPLICITY of words with which he uses to create DEEP meanings.Read some of his novels, essays and war poems and you'll know what i am talking about.People like Achebe who do not use sophisticated language in writing may hardly win prizes but they surely write books we commonly term CLASSICS,THINGS FALL APART,for example.Soyinka is good in his mastery of the English language. He is a worthy Nobel laureate,a true activist for the Nigerian people and a worthy ambassador even in the "European game".Emmmmmm, talk about African literature anywhere in the world and the two of them easily come to mind.In short,I am proud of their efforts as my countrymen and deem both GREAT!
As a diversion,I think we need more classics like THINGS FALL APART and Nobel literature prizes like Soyinka's in Nigeria.Enough of all these sloppy writing I see demonstrated by our New Nigerian writers and let us get busy writing with more purpose and not just to display our vocabulary or create sensational stories.I bet you,a writer like Amos Tutuola makes more meaning than most of them even with his poor English!
I HAIL NAIRALAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Where Did Liverpool Go Wrong? by creatorjc(m): 4:15pm On May 25, 2007
well, i think Benitez did not get his sums right for once.what was Zenden doing in that match?Gerrard was just sloppy and could not really connect with Pennant effectively.Crouch should have come into the match earlier than he did for some long balls and partnership with Kuyt.Emmm,I dont really blame Benitez tough. The truth is that the quality players he has in his team are few, very few and then,on a day the most qualified[Gerrard] played poorly, the cup was not just theirs,
