Foreign Affairs › Re: Blinken Says NATO Countries Have "Green Light" To Send Fighter Jets To Ukraine by CrownedPhoenix:
A305:
First off, Hitler was actually successful but made 3 mistakes which are:
1- After conquering and taking Austria,Poland and France, he wanted to conquer the entire Europe. That was a mistake. He would have called truce after taking neighbouring countries only.

2 - Hitler was fighting from many fronts — West, East.

3 - He turned on his ally Russia (Stalin)

If Hitler hadn't made these 3 mistakes, Germany would have been a world power country today (similar to today's U.S) and Hitler a hero.

Lastly, it was Japan bombing if port harbor that brought US to the war NOT Hitler's offensive. And where did the US dropped the Atomic bomb — Japan.
While your points 1, 2 & 3 supports what I said earlier, I believe you made a mistake including Austria in the list of countries Hitler occupied. Austria-Hungary was a co-founding member of the Central powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary, and later, Italy and Japan - Axis powers)
1. After taking Crimea, Putin took control of Lugansk and Donetsk by backing rebels. Now he's going ahead to conquer the whole Ukraine.
2. Putin might end up fighting this war on many fronts.
3. The two allies, China and Russia might actually turn on each other.

Your last point about Pearl Harbour: While the bombing of Pearl Harbour was the remote and immediate cause that pushed the trigger for the Americans, the trigger was long coming with Germany's bombing of civilian target population/structures in Great Britain for months prior, operation The Blitz.
The debate to join was already ongoing in the parliament, and was progressively being debated to join as seen in America's foreign relations with GB change from sales of arms to 'lend'.

Also, Japan being an inner member of the Axis, would have Berlin seconded the bombing of American territory which was obviously a miscalculation. This supports the reason I said Hitler miscalculated. Or simply wanted to lure the USA into the war for whatever reasons.

Again, Putin and China can turn on each other if Russia takes steps that hurt China's trade. Hitler turned on Stalin. Even though theirs was a complicated relationship, such complications can happen between Russia and the neutral China, who has refused to categorically be open about his support.

There are permutations and miscalculations in wars as events unfold. Friends turn enemies and enemies turn friends as with the Britain-US-Russia relationship of WW I, and the later realignment of Germany-Russia of WW II.
Foreign Affairs › Re: Blinken Says NATO Countries Have "Green Light" To Send Fighter Jets To Ukraine by CrownedPhoenix:
Russia is Russia. Ukraine is Ukraine.

Putin cannot just invade Ukraine unprovoked and order them to do as he says.

Hitler had, more or less, defeated the world at some point. But Hitler made a fatal error in calculation which saw America enter the war.

If Russia at some point makes similar error in calculation, other nations will actively enter this war which will snowball into world war thr..

If this happens, just like Hitler, Russia will lose terribly.
Foreign Affairs › Re: Lives In A Suitcase: The Refugees Fleeing The Russia-Ukraine War (Pictures) by CrownedPhoenix: 8:26pm On Mar 01, 2022
Deluded analysts trying to blackmail the world into silence.

America committed atrocities, Russia never said a thing.

So because of that, Russia should invade the territorial integrity of a sovereign nation & the world must keep quiet. What a blackmail.

Ukrainians should defend their right to freedom of association. Defend your homeland from invaders. Posterity will remember you

Foreign Affairs › Re: James Cleverly Tells Russian Generals To Stage A Coup Against Putin by CrownedPhoenix:
shocked huh

But doing so is against the ideals of democracy .

The headline might be misleading though because I don't see anywhere he expressly stated that. Calling on military leaders to step in doesn't necessarily mean calling on them to stage a coupé

Russia needs to leave Ukrainians alone to their sovereignty. Pull out of Ukraine, return to Russia and enjoy your sanctions in peace
Foreign Affairs › Re: Ongoing Protest Around The World To Cut Russia Off SWIFT: by CrownedPhoenix:
Russia should be stopped.

People need to understand that Putin caused the once neutral Ukraine become resolute in having NATO's backing.
By annexing Crimea, Russia made the Ukrainians realized how porous they were. This their new quest goes beyond the Ukrainian President. It is now the wish of majority of the Ukrainians.

In 2008, Ukraine began the process to join. Why didn't NATO grant it? Majority of Ukrainians were generally not keen on NATO, making the process slow. The next president decided Ukraine should remain a neutral state.

So what changed? -The annexation of Crimea.

The annexation of Crimea in 2014 opened their eyes to how insecure they are around the big bully. They now tilted from a neutral nation to about 70% of the Ukrainians wanting decisively to joining NATO.
This is evidenced in the way civilian population of Ukraine are willingly bearing arms to defend their land.

Any takeaways?
Apart from the majority of Ukrainians now resolute in wanting to join, other smaller neighboring countries are watching Russia and will definitely revisit their interests in joing NATO, or at least tilt from being neutral.

Violating a country's territorial integrity based on 'Areas of Influence' is not longer admissible in international relations.

What Russia should have done was to take the fight to America by also seeking to re-establish military bases next door to America. That way, they are better poised to force America to tune down the eastward expansion of NATO.

But no, with all the Chess Grandmasters in Russia, dem no fit think. Na only gra-gra dey Putin head.

Unfortunately, his gra-gra has not deterred the Ukrainians. Instead the invasion is making them more patriotic than they had ever been.

You still say they can't join the EU. EU that is an economic alliance? Haba now

Is Putin now supposed to be dictating when Ukrainians can eat and when they can go to toilet?

See that one face grin

I have realized some people here idolise Putin not because what he's doing is right. But because of their hate for the West.

You hail Putin not because Ukraine deserves this war but because you hate America.

Shame on you lots for supporting the invasion of a country's sovereignty.

How can the Nigerian Airforce continuously bomb innocent citizens 'mistakenly'. Over and over you keep hearing mistake. Year in year out

People are blown up in avoidable circumstances and we don't hear about how such pilots are punished.

Is it that they do not have coordinates? They just fly in the sky and once they sight a cluster of human.. They bomb!
Foreign Affairs › Re: FIGHTING TALK: Boris Johnson To Hold Cobra Meeting Today To Discuss Ukraine by CrownedPhoenix:
I used to love Putin. The strong no-nonsense untouchable badass ex-KGB agent, man made of steel. A balance to world power etc etc

I thought and believed Russia to be non-expantionist. Loved that country for their resolute willpower throughout history. From the fire of Moscow to Stalin's snipers in Stalingrad, I have loved this country of theirs.

But in this past few weeks I have made time for reflection on the man Putin.

The respectable demeanor and aura he carried has been reduced to dust, revealing another power hungry, devilish Hitler.

I am horribly disturbed by his flagrant disregard for rules of engagement. One a KGB agent should know better about.

Declare recognition for parts of a sovereign State. And then decree troops be deployed into a sovereign state?

This is unacceptable by any standard.

What a low-life cunning way to invade a sovereign State. Some hype it as a game of chess. I call it con.

Watching a man I so much revered talking nonsense history and making an utter fool of himself on TV. Couldn't believe it's same Vladimir Putin I could argue to the moon & back for.

Except China who's waiting to play same script on Taiwan, anybody supporting this insanity just because they hate America should have his/her head checked.

He is saying all the Anti-Putin activists can gather in one place, declare themselves a sovereign State and have other nations recognize them.

He referenced how a country can not pursue it's security to the detriment of another country, what exactly has he just done?

Well, by this provocative action of his, if Ukraine doesn't immediately formally apply to join NATO, then something is wrong.
