ELDORA’S CANCER (LYMPHOMA) TREATMENT FUND

My name is Jessica Ossai and I am Eldora’s younger sister. Let me share a brief story about Eldora.
Eldora is from Ishibe village in Oguta, Oguta L.G.A., Imo state, Nigeria. A daughter of Late Kevin Ifeanyichukwu Ossai aka (Ice Water) Akpati Ossai’s granddaughter. Few months after Eldora’s National Youth service Corps in Nigeria, Eldora had plans to start a great career and have a great life. She was a vibrant and adorable 25 year old young woman until she became ill. She had uncontrollable cough, night sweats and a small swollen lymph node on her neck. She had an X-ray, and a CT-Scan Chest which showed a huge mass that had covered her heart. She had a successful open-heart surgery to remove the huge mass (Mediastinal mass) that was growing in her heart. Sadly, the test reports came out positive for Stage 2 Classical Hodgkin’s Lymphoma so, she started treatment in Nigeria. She was poorly managed and had several relapses. She was flown out of Nigeria to India for proper medical treatment by our retired and widowed mother. Our mom has spent all that she can including her retirement benefits. She has sold everything that she had, just to make sure my sister’s life is saved.
The lymphoma caused a huge mass on her neck which made her stay indoors always and she refused to be part of any family photograph. With all these, Eldora has never given up and she believes that she will be cured.
In India, Eldora was planned for INJ Bretuximab Vedotin but because of the high cost, we have agreed to start INJ Nivolumab ($19,000 for 6 cycles) and go further with Allogeneic Stem Cell transplant ($46,571) so that she can be cured which is $65,571 in total. Her doctor has explained that the cure rate of the chosen treatment is very high. He added that she needs to start the treatment as soon as possible because cancer cells grow very fast when not attended to. We have no insurance, and the financial burden is very great on my family.
Currently, Eldora is having serious pains and she is very sick because she has not started the new line of treatment advised by her doctor. She can’t eat or drink because she is not able swallow properly. She has had a drastic weight loss.
I was able to persuade Eldora to let me make this GoFundMe because she is facing mental and emotional distress. She has lost lots of friends along the way, she has not been able to go to work because she is always in the hospital and even almost got addicted to pain killers that help relieve the pains that comes with lymphoma.
Eldora and I are spending Christmas away from family again, in the hospital. Please let us help make this, the last Christmas she will be spending in the hospital so that she can be around the people that she loves, free of health complications and unburden by financial hardships. I also want Eldora to be cured so that I can continue my education and career, which I kept on hold to be with and care for my lovely sister.

She never lets anything affect her smiles, but nowadays, she hardly smiles because she keeps on thinking about the financial burden on my family and how her treatments funds will be gotten. The South East Governors, in conjunction with Ohanaeze Ndigbo, have agreed to set up a driving force for the development of Igbo land known as Alaigbo Stabilization Fund.

“The Fund is intended to develop Igbo land to the status of Catalonia in Spain and Bavaria in Germany,” Chief Emeka Attamah, S. A. Media and Publicity to President General, Chief John Nnia Nwodo, said Tuesday in a statement.

“Towards this objective, a 50-man steering committee made up of experts and professionals in banking, finance and development economics drawn from the diaspora and all the South East states have been set up to draft the basis of Alaigbo Stabilization Fund and its governance protocol,” Ohanaeze said in the statement issued from its headquarters in Enugu.

“The Committee has as its Chairman a renowned economist and development expert and former Economic Adviser to President Obasanjo, Prof. Osita Ogbu, while Anyim Ude, will serve as its Secretary,” the apex Igbo group said.

It named other members of the Committee as Mac Atasia, Ike Chioke, Patrick Okigbo, Nnanna Anyim Ude, Dr Nick Okoye and Dr Ndy Onukwuesi.

Others are Emeka Onwuka, Dave Nwachukwu, Chief Aloysius Ihezie, Dr Bernard Orbika, Ngozi Odumuko, Jerome Okolo, Emeka Ugwuoju and Reginald Ihebuzor.

Also in the Committee are Ben Nwawudu, Monye Chuka, Dr Sam Amadi, Dr Joe Abah, Ede Solomon, Barrister Nwachukwu, Prof. Ejiofor of WIC and Air Vice Marshall Obierika.

what really are you fighting for because personally apart from late payment there is not much to agitate for.

We have a lot to fight for, MW arrears has not been paid, off campus rent, responsibility allowance and some others have not been paid since IPPIS. There are lots we need to tidy up through effective strike action.

I had discussion with IPPIS today, Thursday, 07/05/2020 on a number of issues.
The Officer said the salary of April, 2020 could not be paid earlier because of few issues that have to do with the payment of the workers who were not captured during the exercise late last year.
A number of them on Sabbatical leave or Visiting appointments submitted different bank details from the ones in their primary place of appointments.
But, he promised that the salary will be paid today, therefore, we should be expecting salary alerts in the evening,though they have not totally resolved these Sabbatical leave issues but the identified cases will be separated to allow the payment of salaries of others.
Further, I got the assurance that third party deductions were effected and will be paid to the beneficiaries.
The consequential arrears of Minimum Wage will be paid immediately the errors identified are rectified.
I want appeal to you to exercise a little patience.
We have started making contact with National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission on the Earned Allowances. Let me assure you that nobody will be shortchanged.

All you need do is take your payslip, subtract what was paid to you in March from January, the difference is your NMW, then multiply it by 9, that should be the minimum amount you will receive as MW arrears.
