You don't start unique designs when you are still relatively unknown and revenue is still upcoming.
You leverage on established designs, create cheaper variants of those designs so as to create a ready alternative for people, build credibility, and then you can produce something totally unique and your customers will trust that.
We should be realistic in our arguments.

How did he lie?
Over 70% of the parts which includes iron, plastics and furnitures are produced by innoson. I hope you know innoson owns a plastic production company- a separate entity on its own.
The only significant thing he imports are engines, sensors, electronic components and maybe the polished glasses. The rest are all produced and fabricated in Nigeria by innoson and assembled together.
That is manufacturing in pure form.
The bodily designs of the vehicles too be may be adapted from established brands but that is pretty irrelevant for now.

Would you be happier if the designs were american or korean because at this level of production and sophistication, he has to adapt from established brands.
It dosen't mean the vehicles are not functional, or the product are not original. With more revenue and government support , his originality will improve.
If innoson grows to a certain level, he is going start tendering proposals for unique automobile designs in universities and polytechnics across Nigeria that can minimize fabricated material use, and energy use, thereby saving cost.
But he will not get there without support and growth.

If you are not a tribalistic, then you will offer more than just saying he assembles chinese vehicles because the designs are chinese which is a big fat lie because china copied those designs themselves.
If you were not a tribalsit, you would realize that vehicle manufacturing is 70% assembling of already manufactured parts sourced from different manufacturers, sometimes based in different countries.
If you were not a tribalist, you would know that Innoson already owns affiliate companies that manufactures some of his parts for him especially plastic, rubber and furniture fabrications, and with time would move into more technical manufacturing like engines and sensor manufacturing which is the most technical anyway.
If you were not a tribalist or an inbred illiterate, you would have known that the only real difference between innosn and toyota is that toyota can manufacture its own engines due to its being a far experienced player.
The day innosson gets the required technical ability either by purchase of tech or by employment of skilled hands, to design and manufacture engines, the difference between innoson and toyota no longer exists beyond standards and durability.
