The head of Unilag says the federal government held no consultations with him or the appropriate unions before effecting a name change

The Acting Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos, Rahmon Bello, on Tuesday expressed surprise at the Federal Government's decision to rename the institution as Moshood Abiola University.

Mr. Bello, a professor of Chemical Engineering, made the remark while addressing protesting students of the institution, who took to major streets in the metropolis following the announcement.

President Goodluck Jonathan had in his broadcast to the nation to mark the May 29 Democracy Day and one year of his administration named the university after the late Mr. Abiola, the presumed winner of the annulled June 1993 presidential poll.

The president said the gesture was to honour the late politician for his contributions to democracy in the country.

Mr. Bello however said the decision did not go down well with both staff and management of the university because the unions in the institution and the management were not consulted.

He appealed to the students to be calm and embrace peace.

"I want you all to be calm and remain law abiding. I also want to thank you all for the matured way you have gone about the protest.

"I wish to let you know that the news of the change of the name of the university took us by surprise because no consultations were held with us.

"All I want from you now is to go home quietly, go about your normal activities and do not do anything that could lead to the closure of the institution," Mr. Bello said.

He said the renaming has come at a time when the university community is planning to hold a service of songs in honour of the late Vice Chancellor, Adetokunbo Sofoluwe.

Oyelowo Oyewo, Dean, Faculty of Law in the university, also criticised the renaming of the institution.

"This is the country's first federal university; there was need for wide consultation before changing its name.

"That a democratic institution in honour of the late Abiola would be established in the university is a welcome development.

"Renaming the university after him, I think it did not go down well," he said.

I have received a lot of emails and twitter messages from people who want to know what Prophet TB Joshua is saying on the Bayern/Chelsea Champions League final tomorrow.

Well, I have not received any correspondence from the Synagogue with respect to TB Joshua’s prediction of the Chelsea/Bayern match. But I can state with certainty TB Joshua has not made any prediction regarding the match. He has not stated that any of the teams will win or lose.

Readers will recall that about 12 days ago, Prophet TB Joshua indicated on Emmanuel TV that Chelsea fans should pray hard because God had revealed the first half of the champions league final to him and the result wasn’t favourable to Chelsea.

Most important, Prophet TB Joshua indicated that he would pray to God to allow him watch the second half of the match, after which he would make a prediction.

Last week many observers expected him to watch the second half and make that prediction, but the Prophet didn’t.

Publicists of Prophet TB Joshua have indicated clearly that all TB Joshua prophecies can seen on Emmanuel TV and accessed at SCOAN’s media social media platforms.

Niger Delta born jungle musician, Stereoman Ekwe is currently chilling his kneels in the police net for allegedly killing his estranged lover, Rukayat Idris.
The musician was arrested by homicide detectives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, Lagos on May 9, 2012 following allegation that he strangled and killed his ex lover, Idris in her Honda Civic car on April 13, 2012.
Insiders said, the late Idris, a mother of two corpse was found in her car under the bridge close to the Trade Fair Complex Bus Stop along Mile2-Badagry Expressway around 8pm.
Investigation revealed that there was no gunshot wound, noting that there was nothing stolen from her.
However, there were marks on her neck, which indicated that she was strangled.
Dailypost gathered that the lovers parted ways for close to a year over issues of constant quarrelling and battering.
It was gathered that Ekwe moved out of the apartment at the Central Bank of Nigeria Quarters, Satellite Town, Lagos, which he shared with Idris and their child, a girl, following his financial misfortunes.

There's no one easy way of getting over a failed relationship especially when it's sudden with no proper explanation on the problem that led to it. Why don't you go out with the boys to distract urself?
I can only advise taking it one day at a time eventually you'll get over her. Please don't call her at all especially since she wants nothing to do with you. Easiest thing to start with is to get rid of everything at home that reminds you of her. Good luck!

Pls I need your sincere advice with no scorn. How do I quickly recover from a blow below the belt by my girlfriend when she utterly said that she is no longer interested in the relationship without any peculiar reason(s). All efforts in trying to restore the situation proves abortive.

There's no perfect rule for breaking up a relationship. what I believe matters most is the way both parties portray their love and how they managed it so you can then inversely use that medium to carve out a way for the break up.

There seems to be no universal laws what works for you might not work for others.

From my thought/analysis, I suspected messi's late performance has to do with the potential exit of Guardiola from Barcelona. I think he is so obsessed with the unannounced exit of Pep, in a way, he was psychologically dealt with.That, i think really give account of messi unconventional behaviours on the pitch lately. That is why he deliberately absented himself from the press conference because of his love and admiration for Pep... Up barca

Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Kehinde Gbadewole
Olugbenle has emerged the new Olu of Ilaro and paramount ruler of Yewa-
Awori axis of Ogun state.
Saturday Vanguard however learnt that his candidacy which was unanimously
supported by the kingmakers after an election where he won by a vote to
defeat his close rival, Adedeji Olugbenle was approved by Ogun state Governor
Senator Ibikunle Amosun following his reported religious and moral
uprightness.
Before he was chosen as Olu of Ilaro-elect, Olugbenle has been a pastor
with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and has been observing
the mandatory confinement ‘Ipebi’ which will eventually culminate in his
coronation today, Saturday.
Reacting to the insinuation that the new Olu of Ilaro-elect was a member of
Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, the Chairman, planning committee of the
coronation, Chief Thomas Lala, denied the Oba-elect’s affiliation with the
ACN, saying, his choice as the new Oba had nothing to do with his affiliation
with any political party.
He also denied that, the state government pressured on the kingmakers to
chose Kehinde Olugbenle as the new Olu of Ilaro, saying, ‘six people
contested for the vacant stool before his candidacy was approved by His
Excellency, Governor Ibikunle Amosun’.
He said, “ our Oba is not a member of any political party. He is a member of
all political parties because he is a father of all. The Oba-elect is not a civil
servant. It was the kingmakers that carried out the processes before the
government approved his candidacy” Lala said.
On the purported court injunction restraining the government from installing
the new Olu of Ilaro-elect, the Chairman said there was no court restraint,
urging all stakeholders and contestants of the stool to rally round the new
Oba-elect for the development of the region.
During the coronation, which holds today, (Saturday), Kehinde Gbadewole
Olugbenle would be presented with the staff of office as well as certificate of
coronation by the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
And by the chieftaincy law in the state, the Olu of Ilaro is automatically the
Paramount ruler of Yewaland, Olugbenle, a pastor of the Redeemed Christian
Church of God (RCCG) has been observing the mandatory
‘’Ipebi” (confinement) which will eventually culminate in his coronation
Saturday.
Ahead of coronation of a new Olu of Ilaro and the paramount ruler of
Yewaland on Saturday, the ancient city of Ilaro, the political headquarters of
Yewa is wearing a new look.
Oba Olugbenle who was quoted to have described his selection as God
chosen while reacting to the perceived opposition to his choice, promising
that his tenure would witness prosperous reign.
‘’He said for sometime now, unity appears to have eluded us for a long time
and it is my desire that during my reign, I want to work for the unity of not
only Ilaro, but the entire Yewaland.
‘’For me as the Paramount ruler of Yewaland, my choice is not accidental, but
the choice of God, who knows better than all mortals”
The Ilaro town is already wearing new looks with banners, posters and various
other decorations adorning different part of the town.
The coronation billed for today, Saturday will hold at the Gateway
International Stadium, Ilaro, with reception later at the Empire Field with the
duo of Ebenezer Obey who turned 70 last week and Fuji musician, Wasiu
Ayinde Marshall entertaining guests.
