My hope for northern Nigeria was the people - lovelyy, kind and accomodating. It however seems that the once powerful north is fast becoming a minority and a major hustler in issues of Nigeria. ComputersRe: 3 Things Microsoft Cannot Explain by dabigwalls: 5:45am On Jun 28, 2012
Maleeq: No biggie. Its a known tradition that programmers/developers add "Easter Eggs" to applications.

These are hidden features that don't necessarily add features to the application. But they are kinda cool. Google it out, do you know there are hidden car racing games in lower versions of excel??

There are several reserved keywords in Windows. The restriction isn't a mistake/magic that, as you claim, even Microsoft cant explain. Ofcourse they put it there to avoid conflict. The CON is a DOS reserved keyword that was brought forward into Windows. CON is used to specify the device file used to capture whatever was printed onscreen.

And oh yes, you can create the folder. You have to specify the UNC (Universal Naming Convention) path though. Try it:
Open the Command prompt by clicking Start -> Run and typing cmd
Enter: C:\> md \\.\c:\con and press the ENTER key.
Now, Open My Computer and browse through the path where you created CON folder... Surprising.. ?? Yeah.. you have created it successfully

Now, try to delete the folder from My computer. OOPS!!! You cant delete it...

Now, try this in command prompt console

C:\> rd \\.\c:\con

Yeah!! You did it...
Check this link for other names you cant use: Restricted File Names On Windows/DOS

Another hoax. They put it there to create "Filler texts" in a document. Not just the numbers (200, 99), try any combination.
Typing =rand(X,Y) (with numbers for X and Y) results in X paragraphs of Y repetitions of the sentence.
For example, =rand(10,10) will produce ten paragraphs, each with ten repetitions. Microsoft has officially described this as a feature and not an Easter egg.
While you are at it, try =rand() and see the "magic"

Wingdings font is all about symbols (characters to symbols), it was developed by Microsoft in 1990 and since then it has been a part of every text editor by Microsoft. Its no magic or hoax, but an amazing coincidence.
The magic is valid, but the flight number is a lie, those are not the flight numbers of the one that hit Twin Towers. The flight numbers were United Airlines Flight 175 and American Airlines flight 11. These, if shortened, would be UA175 and AA11. Q33N is just an interesting coincidence in notepad.

Neeeeeeeext!

PoliticsRe: GEJ Media Chat- Summary In Print. by dabigwalls: 6:00am On Jun 25, 2012
Without a doubt, GEJ had a good preparation for the media chat and of course expressed more confidence in himself and federal agencies. He is a very criticized president again because of the numerous channels and access to information that we have but he has only spent one full year or so as sitting president but his critics have had a good day on him so far. I wonder whether critics who call him "clueless" and "mumu" can reconcile that with his "I don't give a damn" posturing. GEJ clearly knows what he's doing (I think).
PoliticsWhat Is Your Take On President Goodluck Jonathan's Performance in the Media Chat by dabigwalls(op): 8:37pm On Jun 24, 2012

He however was evasive and was not forthcoming with commmiting himself and his administration on some critical issues of national interest. So how would you rate the performance of Mr President?

PoliticsRe: FG Writes US Over Possible Drone Strikes On Nigerian Soil by dabigwalls: 10:29am On Jun 23, 2012
Didn't America predict we would split by 2015? Did anyone doubt it then? Is anyone in doubt still? Drones in the North will simply mean Southerners will find their ways out within 24 months. We will cut of economic ties as the north's social value will be at -20% then. The North will dry up and be like Afghanistan and thereby lose the power of negotiation to remain in Nigeria. Southern Nigeria will be one. Ibos and Yorubas run Lagos already. They won't split. The first drone is the first physical manifestation of our split. Congrats to those who waiting!

By the way, that letter is as responsible as a government can get. It endorses tacitly America's action and an admittance that we cannot handle Boko Haram. But America definitely can handle their fathers.

@KelsKelly...I apologise. I didn't mean any insults.
@Mustay...you apparently just started dancing. The question was put to Kelskelly. It seems you were apparently not following. Kelskelly has also responded.
@yemmy ma...I am not interested in joining issues with you because you are attempting to shift the focus. GT Bank or Masters is the issue at hand. Not your discussions about whether MBA or BSc has value or not.
Maybe school should be scrapped altogether. Afterall Bill Gates and a host of others didn't need it to make it big. Anyone can break through I agree, but the propensity in a certificate driven Nigerian business environment is to equip yourself as much as you can. Even the certificates are failing what about the certificateless? Pls let's be real here in offering solutions.

@OP I will give you a few insights. The University of Hull has one of the best business schools in all of northern england. The Business School and their Law are a force to reckon with. Huge investments were made in the supply and logistics arm of the MBA as Hull is a coastal town with a lot of logistis potentials. The economic crunch has hit everywhere! It is not permanent, a boom will soon come again and then besides experience, qualifications will be brought to consideration. Trust me, it will hit you right in your face and you will realise that given the opportunity you have now, when global economies pick up, it was an error to have chosen GT now. It is golden handcuff coz once you get into the banking hole...

Above all pray to God for direction. I am talking from my own experience but yours can be better. A little more insight, I was discouraged from leaving my banking job coz I was offered 5.2M/annum then.I chose to make hay while the sun was shining. I left. Got to the Hull MBA and finished tops in class by God's grace.
There was NO JOB for 12 months of completion. But by the 13th month, it's a driver, a maiguard, a car, my modest income and I have opportunity to affect lives through employment. People in the same organisation after 15 years are barely this lucky. Don't let anybody fool you paper qualification doesn't matter o. It's a lie. God helped me. He will help you.
CareerRe: GTBank Job Or Masters Degree? by dabigwalls: 5:54am On May 27, 2012
@Kelskelly...with BSc, one is jobless because millions and zillions have it. One differentiator is a Masters. An MBA is even more professionally deep for people with business interests and managerial roles. If he could get a job with his BSc with GT, why will it be more difficult with an MBA?

Shebi we say there are no jobs? Go Yankee, Go Jand, there are no jobs you all say so why does this post exist in the first place? This post is about a job somebody got!!! Why are you all crying wolf?? Are you saying he becomes perpetually doomed if he does not forgo this one year's pay with GT to return as an improved thinker?

Is he worse off with an MBA after one year if he returns to Nigeria? Do you have a Masters? I will be interested in your answer because if your answer is yes then you must be selfish, if it is a no, then you are half - informed.

@OP, total pay of 200K/annum is max 2.4M/annum. You studied anatomy and you seriously think one year with a good degree to back up your business interest will be suicidal? Think twice, go to Hull and enrol for the Systems Thinking course. Come back and laugh at people who would have deprived you of such globally acclaimed thought and education.

Deep calleth unto deep.
CareerRe: GTBank Job Or Masters Degree? by dabigwalls: 3:46am On May 27, 2012
I can never advise you to forgo a lifetime opportunity of self improvement for 198K. Once you get a Masters, you have it FOR LIFE (like Arsenal fans of old). You may lose a job, never a Masters degree qualification. In fact, the psychological boost you will get can never be bought with all your upfront for years. Do you know how many people are stuck in the banks today? No serious career progression - AND no Masters? So they can't go forward or backwards even after 10 years of been in banking? And you must understand it is tough to cross from banking to other industries even as an experienced staff.

I must also however burst the bubble of the core of some earlier advise/assumptions you have been given. One of the worst mistakes Nigerian youths make in my opinion is what your post encourages - the need for immediate gratification. No long term helicopter view of a person's life in the future in consideration. How can anyone jump into such a volatile 'opportunity' like a GT job? The highest staff turnover in any professional industry in Nigeria is Nigeran banking industry.

Another information for the OP is that you cannot today lump UK schools together in a good better best format. For instance A business school with the AACSB accreditation has the highest global business school accreditation irrespective of whether it's UK or US. So the question is, does the University of Hull MBA program have the Advanced Association of Collegiate Schools of Business accreditation? If it does and you still take GT bank's pay over it, 10 years will reveal the error.

There are 4 accreditations that a good biz school must have. Even some big schools have business schools that do not have all 4.
CareerRe: GTBank Job Or Masters Degree? by dabigwalls: 3:39am On May 27, 2012
tanimola22: I asked you what next because I wanted to know whether or not you have designed an excellent hedge against the unfavorably volatile job market in the UK and other parts of the world. From your answer, you have none. I might be wrong though.

I asked whether it's a top 5 US or UK school because I wanted to gauge your desirability to employers upon your graduation. Unfortunately, your answer shows that you might be no different from other unemployed naija graduates, who have very fancy UK degrees which cost close to 15K, if you went to study in the UK.

To make matters worse, you want to go and study a course that is a one way, a course that favors mostly professionals who have had years of solid professional experience. A course that will not give you an edge to immediately pursue a PhD just in case the job won't just come.

There is one fact that you must always bear in mind, and it is that 'foreign universities will continue to admit students no matter how old the students are'. Therefore, If I were you, I would definitely accept the GT offer, work for some years and then jet out for further studies, if I still deem it necessary. This way, I would stand a better chance of getting into a nicer school, in fact an Ivy league or something very close to it. This way, I would be solid, desirable enough and also stand a better chance of landing an awesome job, after graduation, because of my previous work experience which must surely be of immense advantage to me. I am not saying that one is certain of landing one's dream job just because one has had a solid professional experience. My point is that your chances are much higher if you have a solid work experience plus a top MBA degree.

If I really hate bank job and want to neglect the GT offer for further studies abroad, a strategy I would employ is to simply change courses. I would go for an MSc program instead of an MBA program. I would then make sure I aim to get the best possible grades I can get. This will help me in two ways. First, it will help land me job interviews and I will have something to brag about during the job interviews. Second, I will be competitive to get fully funded PhD positions just in case the ideal job does not come after about 2 years of searching. I think you get my drift.

A lot of naija people are unemployed and stuck in Lagos and London and New York and elsewhere because their Master's degrees are so poor that nobody would believe they can cope with PhD level courses and research. Such people thought going abroad and getting 'any' oyinbo kpali would give them jobs at Total, Mobil, Chevron, Davidson Kempner Advisers and Fortress Investment etc. Unfortunately, many of them are not smiling today.

I will leave you to ponder over my submission and come to a conclusion by yourself, a conclusion that will maximize your own professional payoff.

T22.

I must say that your submission indicates a very sound background and understanding of the immediate issues at hand. I must also however burst the bubble of the core of your assumptions.
