Siasia should stop shouting "Indiscipline" each time a player voices his opinion. If he wants to see real indiscipline, he should refer to Mancini vs Ballotelli, Mancini vs Teves, Redknapp vs Modric or Fergusson vs Rooney (circa 2010). Despite the fact that all the aforementioned players had exhibited some level of "indiscipline" at one time or the other, they are still playing for their respective teams.

PoliticsCorruption: Wikileaks Fingers Okonjo-iweala, El-rufai, Anenih, Govs, Others by dabrake(op): 10:16am On Sep 10, 2011
The latest US diplomatic cable released on Friday from the whistleblower, WikiLeaks, has made allegations of corruption against some powerful Nigerians.

Some of those listed in the report are either occupying key positions in the present government or had served in the past as federal ministers and state governors.

The list included the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; former Federal Capital Territory Minister, Malam Nasir el-Rufai; Chief Olabode George; former Minister of State for Petroleum,Edmund Dakoru; and a former Minster of Works, Chief Tony Anenih.

Also Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa; former governors of Edo, Rivers and Delta states, Chief Lucky Igbinedon, Peter Odili, and James Ibori, who is currently facing trial for alleged fraud in the United Kingdom; were named among corrupt Nigerian leaders in the latest post by WikiLeaks.

While Okonjo-Iweala was accused of cornering contracts worth $50m for her brother, the governors were fingered for using state funds as donations for the library project embarked upon by former President, Olusegun Obasanjo.

Yet, others were accused of various forms of embezzlement during their tenure.

The allegations were contained in a cable, in which the United States was considering a response to the corruption machine in Nigeria, entitled, Corruption: Nigeria ‘improves’ to sixth-worst in the whole world, What can we do about it? It followed a release published by Transparency International in its 2005 Annual Corruption Perceptions.

The content of the cable was written by the then US Ambassador in Nigeria, Mr. John Campbell.

The cable, which was posted in 2005, had listed five countries in the whole world that were more corrupt than Nigeria.

The countries mentioned were Chad, Bangladesh, Turkmenistan, Myanmar and Haiti.

Transparency International, however, noted that the report was an improvement over what it was in the preceding year.

The international watchdog had considered as worrisome widespread corruption at all levels of the private and public sector.

The cable cast a doubt on the funding of Obasanjo Farm, which was blossoming at the time even though it was nearly bankrupt in the late 1990s. “Some Nigerians think it is unlikely that Obasanjo’s military pension and benefits were the sole source of investment for establishing this huge enterprise, valued by a construction engineer involved in the construction at more than $250m,” the cable stated.

The cable said Daukoru was charged in 1994 for embezzling some $47m as a managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. “The charges were abandoned and Daukoru’s political career soared when Obasanjo took office in 1999.”

Ita-Giwa, according to the cable, was indicted for misappropriation of funds by the Idris Kuta panel in 2000, but was pardoned along other indicted senators and she was named a special adviser to Obasanjo when she left the Senate.

Anenih, the cable alleged, was indicted by the National Assembly for the sum of N300bn missing from Ministry of Works and Housing while he was the minister. Okonjo-Iweala was said to have steered contracts to her brother named JonJon with the help of el-Rufai. The contracts, said to be about $50m, were paid to him for consulting for the ministry. El-Rufai who was described as “homeless and seeking a loan to import a taxi from the UK,” suddenly became a proud owner of seven upscale properties in a posh Abuja neighbourhood.

The cable accused the 36 state governors of donating N10m each to the Obasanjo library project. “Following a public outcry, the library organisers stated the donations were from the governors’ personal funds, but several governors backpedalled from their commitments, claiming they had made no such pledges. When a Lagos lawyer filed a code of conduct complaint alleging conflict of interest in the president receiving these donations from recipients of government funds, Obasanjo invoked the immunity clause of the constitution, and the complaint died out,” the cable said.

Worried by the corruption level in the country, the United States government resolved to help the country out by making judicial use of US visa revocation for corrupt practices as provided by Presidential Proclamation 7750. “It is in the USG interest to support Nigeria’s efforts to root out corruption and while our positive public pronouncements contribute to the environment, the biggest influence we can have is the judicious use of US visa revocation for corrupt practices, as provided by the Presidential Proclamation 7750.

“Though we are unable to identify every corrupt official, the Mission is compiling a list of some prominent and egregious corrupt officials from throughout the country. The list will take into consideration the individuals, levels of corruption and the impact on Nigerian stability of a 7750 decision. The list could be expanded in many directions, but the Mission feels that such an effort would demonstrate the sincerity and seriousness of the USG’s commitment to good governance and, if these individuals are found ineligible, that finding could contribute greatly to entrenching the precepts of good governance and accountability in Nigeria.”

You look at factor for siting a space centre. Only Ondo state have all factors.

1. You are going to look at having the skill staff to man a space centre. Ondo/ekiti have the skill workers around the world. who even some will retire to offer their skill. Akwa Ibom or cross river states does not have that skill worker around the world.
2. You look for mountain in that site. akwa Ibom does not have mountain high enough to site a space agency.
3. You look at ocean which sometime this space craft will fall on. Even while akwa ibom or cross river or river or bayelsa have waterfall. the water way have already been use . and they are block by other small countries like which are island. they own this water ways. So your space craft will be falling into another country. In ondo state , you dont have island infront of it.

4. No state in Nigeria have a better chance of been sited a space program. Ondo state is Number 1.

You can see why we want to leave you in Nigeria. Nigeria can not make progress if you continue with ethnic hate. It is this same ethnics hate that have made Nigeria not develop.

FG to establish space centre at UNIUYO
Friday, 09 September 2011

The Federal Government is planning to establish a space centre at the University of Uyo, Uyo, to aid marine research.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Professor Ita Okon Bassey Ewa, who stated this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Akwa Ibom State governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, at the Governor’s Lodge, Uyo, said the university could partner Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, on development of the coastal line and should take advantage of the centre.

Professor Ewa noted that “Akwa Ibom has a coastline that requires continuous monitoring and research. The state is rich in mineral resources and marine products and there is the need to establish such a centre here.”

He hinted that Nigeria had a coastline to monitor the space and had recently launched Satellites 2 and X in Russia which was in orbit to assist Nigeria in agriculture and regional planning with an advantage of 2.5 photo-chromatic view.

“We took a team of engineers to Russia and launched the two satellites. As a result of the feat of President Goodluck Jonathan within his first 100 days, Nigeria is able to rub shoulders with United States of America,” the minister pointed out.

He advised the governor to relocate incubation centre in the state Ministry of Science and Technology due to expensive nature of the project, stressing the need to establish Institute of Technology and a cluster of parastatals to assist in the empowerment of the people.

Thank you. That's the first time I'm winning that award. I'm honored somehow.

Why wouldn't I bring it up? Most Nigerians think they're better than Ghanaians. Every time Ghana is mentioned, a lot of Nigerians become arrogant with this "we're bigger, we're better" nonsense. I seriously wonder why. Ghana has amenities for which Nigerians are begging and wishing. Tell me how Nigeria is better than Ghana. With good compelling reason, I'll drop that issue.

Sufferers of superiority complex. Someone was wrong, but that's not the issue because the Ghanaians' reaction was wrong or "wronger". It's called cause and effect. For every action there's a reaction. The truth is that maybe these Ghanaians have been looking for a reason to shaft Nigerians all this time. I'm definitely not defending their reaction. She's given them a perfect reason however. I wouldn't take verbal insults and then smoking, I repeat, smoking on my movie set lightly either.

It's okay to defend your country or your countrymen and countrywomen, but don't do so blindly. The bottom line is that she shouldn't have overreacted when being asked to rehearse with Vicker, and then overreact again when being asked to put out her cigarette. Anything that happened after that happened because of HER behavior. She gave them that audacity.

PoliticsRe: Patience Jonathan Is Not Corrupt - EFCC by dabrake(m): 1:04pm On Sep 08, 2011
sley4life:
We’ve no case against Patience Jonathan –EFCC
From Our reporter
Thursday, September 08, 2011
Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mrs. Farida Waziri, yesterday debunked claims that the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan is under any form of investigation by the anti-graft agency. She said such a report was mischievous.

Waziri made this clarification while receiving representatives of the Women Empowering and Enriching Lives (WEEL), an Abuja based non-governmental organization, who paid her a courtesy visit at the EFCC’s corporate headquarters in Abuja .

The clarification is coming on the heels of renewed media reports that the anti-graft agency had on September 11, 2006, seized $13.5 million dollars ( USD ) from Mrs. Patience Jonathan, when she was then wife of the Governor of Bayelsa State, Mr. Goodluck Jonathan. According to Waziri, the visit of the NGO provided her an opportunity to respond to several enquiries she had been getting on an alleged pending case against Mrs. Jonathan.

“Let me state clearly that the commission will not allow itself to be used to drag innocent people’s names into crimes, cases or allegations they know nothing about. In this particular case, I have read my predecessor say in media interviews in September 2010 that Mrs. Jonathan was not in any way involved in any case of money laundering investigated by the EFCC under him. I have thereafter checked our records and cannot find any case of money laundering against Mrs. Jonathan or the President himself. So, each time I get an enquiry or read about this, I often wonder where this is coming from.”

Waziri maintained that if the person said to have investigated Patience Jonathan for money laundering had as far back as September 2010 disclaimed this, she wondered why people were still referring to it. She said the commission did not have any account or records where $13.5 million was recovered from Mrs. Jonathan in 2006. “We should learn to separate the truth from blackmail. Our society can only thrive on justice and fair play if we uphold the right values and shun the politics of pulling innocent people down,” she added.

She maintained that she would not allow the commission to be used in dragging innocent people’s names into allegations they know nothing about. “I think that is criminal and a big sin. A good name is better than silver and gold. People work hard to build their names and image and then to come overnight and cast this damage or scandalise to hunt someone, I think, is a great sin and I don’t allow it.

Each time we receive petitions, when it is not anonymous, we look for the writer to come and adopt it. But if it is anonymous, we don’t put it in the waste bin, we carry out covert enquiries to see whether there is any substance in it. If there is substance, then yes, we are looking for whistle blowers so we do something about it, but we do not for the sake of politics or the sake of sensationalism drag peoples names in the mud. I know I have been a victim of such and I know what it means and what it takes,” she stressed.

She also said when she took up the job, the late president Yar’ Adua called her and asked if she knew what it entailed to handle the job. “He had told me that my name will be rubbished, I will be scandalized, people will write all sorts of rubbish against me, tissues of lies will be concurred against me. He asked if I realized that and I said yes, I have been through it before and now,” Waziri explained.

She said there was no record anywhere in the commission that Mrs. Jonathan was under any investigation, adding that when the former governor of Delta State, James Ibori allegedly offered $15 million bribe to the former boss of EFCC, the money was kept and remained intact at the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

Self-righteousness will kill Nigerians. Tonto Dikeh was rude. A sensible human being or an adult will see the need to apologize. Because Ghana is a smaller country and because our movie industry is more successful doesn't mean a thing. If you truly want to compare the two, compare things that matter. No one moves to a country for it's movie industry unless they want to act. Ghana has stable light, stable government. No one is bombing embassies in Ghana. For stability reasons, many Nigerians flood Ghana.
