the odi massacre or the one in benue all under obasanjo? the ogbulafor criminal case was under obasanjo. the illegal sharing of our oil wells were all under obasanjo thank God for yar adua who brought them backOBJ made lots of mistakes, agreed. But that doesn't take away his right to proactive, ongoing commentary on issues of national importance. He has simply pointed out a systemic risk, which represents a clear and present danger to our fledging democracy. That is his right. If he was President today, perhaps he would have tried to do something about it - a situation that would no doubt have resulted in many "impeachment proceedings" against him. Our legislators suddenly become 'patriotric and pro-active' when their 'chop channel" is threatened. i am not interested in counting how good or bad obasanjo was and is but what am saying is rulership and leadership is all abt changes in power and not one man seating on power for lifeI still don't understand how OBJ is in power for life. He is free to comment on issues of national interest. I even commend him for his courage and forthrightness. When was the last time IBB or Atiku made any meaningful public comments, other than those that further their dirty ambitions. All OBJ has said is the the re-current cost incurred by the NA is unsustainable. Same thing Ben Nwanbueze said not so long ago. That is fact. if there is any truth obasanjo can tell us today, he shld start with the death of bola igeSpeculation, no more. How can he tell us something he may not know? Only God knows for sure who is responsible for the death of Bola Ige. Lets stop believing the press when it comes to OBJ. He just never patronized them the way Atiku and IBB can. The late Bola Ige may have simply been a victim of his purposeful leadership style. In Nigeria that means stepping on many toes, many with stings you will never come close to anticipating. he shld tell nigerians why atiku was not send to jail after indicting him in 2007Its not OBJ's job to send anyone to Jail. That is the responsibility of the law courts. Last I checked, he tried desperately hard to indict Atiku, but the law courts saw it quite differently. he must also tell us why bode george was not jailed under himEven if he had the power too, he wouldn't have succeeded in jailing every single criminal in Nigeria. Afterall, it's on record that he achieved more success fighting curruption than all our past leaders combined. How many convictions did IBB, Yar get, Abacha, Abdulsalami get? If he had succeeded with the 3rd term thing, many of the ex governors and the likes of boy George would be in jail today. OBJ was already like a 747 in early flight. You must realise that it was the fear of Ribadu (prison) and loss of influence that made many currupt people like IBB, Ibori and Atiku kick against 3rd term, and not for love of country. BTW, as I heard, it was the investigation carried out by Ribadu (bravely appointed by OBJ) that eventually nailed boy George. new found otah farm and cmpbell university, transcrop and a host of other multi billion naire companiesLets think really hard for a minute. If OBJ was really that devious, he would easy divert funds (including some foreign reserves which was largely untouced when he left office) into secret Swizz accounts like 99% of our leaders do today. He would even have closed Ota farm and lived off his secret loot - much like most past leaders do today. Would he then be a better, less currupt leader in your eyes? Lets raise our thinking here. How many of the thieves in power have invested their stolen loot in any local venture of significance that adds value to the Nigerian economy? My point is, OBJ is no worse than most past leaders. In my books, he was/is actually head and shoulders above many before him. |
my concern here is, at what age and time is obasanjo planing to retire from politics? Not sure what retirement has to do with standing up for the truth. I think it's commendable that he is speaking out against a major problem, risk to our democracy. OBJ has tried, at least lets applaud him for speaking up. I respect him a lot for that and have much more respect for him than 90% of our politicians today. You will find that it's more convenient for people in his position to remain silent on matters of curruption in the cesspit called Nigeria! |
My respect for OBJ grows in leaps and bounds by the day. Whatever people say/think about him, he always speaks up! Whether or not curruption was common in his regime, it's been no more rampant than what obtained under IBB and the rest before him. I even think Yar's regime was more currupt and ineffective, albeit more conservative! I can't imagine the likes of IBB, Atiku or Tinubu complaining about curruption. Their priority is how to remain popular amongst influencial criminals (national assembly) in the polity! It's all about their pockets. Bloody thieves. |
The reaction of this general needs to be seen in the context of his familiarity with such situations. Has this man ever seen combat or even fired a weapon in anger in his entire life? As a legal type, I guess not. Someone mentioned that he's always chewing toothpicks. Perhaps from a habit of drinking fish peppersoup? Even a special ops soldier in a profesional army will freeze in similar situations, If combat experience is limited to basic training only. A soldier with combat experience - say the Iraq based troops, will certainly take much better control of violent situations like this. Overall, I have to say I would expect no more from most of our pepper soup generals. Their own is to show courage when taking on helpless, unarmed civilians! |
They are simply worried their incompetence will be exposed. Most senior civil servants, some degree holders amongst them, cannot even read and write properly. They rely on consultants and assistants. All na excuse. |

Here is a good man. Complete opposite to Aondoakaa, Ibori and all the other criminals that went after him. May their lot rot in hell. |
Vision is the difference between Fashola and Akala. Intellectual / mental lazyness is the difference between Fashola / Ribadu and most of our leaders today. When I listen to Ribadu, I see a man at pains to correct the anomalies of a system. A man so frustrated by the systemic decay that he forges ahead by whatever means necessary. I identify with him so strongly and wish that progressive youths can seize the initiative and overthrow the current currupt elite and those they have lined up to replace them, to history. |
I can't recall in my entire life, that I've attended Church and heard the paster condemn fraudstars as well as threaten or outrightly reject contributions from their lot - including thieving politicians! Never. It's always about the size of the Church and/or number of parishes that can be open? Or the outrageousness of the opulence they can display! I doubt very much that this is what Christainity is all about. ![]() |
BRF is not perfect. He has his work cut out, a LOT of work yet to be done in the transformation of the state. Lagos is indeed a city in transition. However, he is still a best of breed in our Nigeria of today - commited, resourceful and purposeful. I remain impressed by his accomplishments within such a short timeframe. |
I have to conclude that these journalists were legitimate targets of kidnapping, as direct beneficiaries of curruption. What's so outrageous about that statement?? For starters, most of these pen robbers are no different from the armed robbers / kidnappers we condemn - so they're just as culpable and will not earn my sympathy. I've always stated that the Press is a major clog in the progress of our nation- as they consistently subvert their social responsibility for a pot of porridge. They should be the victims of the anachy that is a consequence of their derelection of duy and abdication of responsibility to the people. They and the thieving elite that sustain them! |
I have to conclude that these journalists were legitimate targets of kidnapping, as direct beneficiaries of curruption. |
IBB is pure evil, personified. He ceases to surprise me. It's those silly, greedy sycophants around him I found most irritating. |
OBJ is better than the petitioners and their sponsor ( IBB ) combined. Hope they were paid enough for a pot of stew! |
Dash them plenty money! ![]() |
This is what happens when the likes of Kalu are given time and space to rule in Nigeria. The main doctrine in Nigeria is Turn By Turn (TBT). That's the bane of our system. executive, judiciary, legislature, police - all turn by turn. What this sick nation needs is TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP. Root and branch. Without this, nothing will change. Onovo has no business being the IG of police - were it not for the doctrine of TBT. We need the likes of Ribadu to head the police, young, vibrant judges to head the judiciary, and not that thief Katsina Alu! How can our legislatures, police be stealing blind while condemning kidnappers? This is just the begining. Nigeria will boil in the not so distant future due this ceaseless ineptitude. |
How won't foreigners hate us when we don't even get on, like or trust ourselves?. The level of suspicion one sees between tribes alone (particularly b/w yoruba and igbos), even abroad, is enough to make you cringe. Also, with people tolerating extremely currupt leadership at home, while readily seeking foreign countries to infest with crime and grime, it's hard to imagine a positive perception being formed of us by foreigners. Abeg lets leave these foreigners alone. We are our own biggest enemy!! |
Are assasinations really that difficult in Nigeria? Why is unrepentant rogue allowed to persist as a nuisance in our society? Why? |
He who the devil wants to destroy he first makes mad. Watch how/where IBB will end up before the end of Next year!! It'll be one less obstacle to our collective progress, |
Hi, goodmorning,Nigerian educational system for real! Dude, no offence meant, but it's a struggle comprehending what you're on about, |
Leave his kids/family out? Why? They are major beneficiaries of the proceeds of crime. These thieving Nigerian officials should be hit where it hurts. All Western countries should ban fools like these and their entire families. They should all remain in Nigeria, study there, vacation there and live in the mess millions of innocent Nigerians have to survive in, day in, day out. |
Good decision. A new generation of players is required. The problem with the players is not motivation but lack of patriotism, lack of commitment and lack of fitness. When players like Yakubu act as if he's doing the nation a favour, NFF is not the immediate problem. |
Hot off the press - Super chicks to pack the team bus in front of goal against South Korea! |
Anything else will be the same old storyIBB is not same old story then? I'm actually in support of IBB contesting. I think it'll be a race to his eventual destruction which is long overdue, so our nation can move forward. |
If this madness had occured in the normal course of business i.e. dealing with a goal threat, hard tackle to retrieve a ball etc, it would be easy to forgive. Anyway, I guess we all have our moments of madness. Let's pray ours never activates at such critical moments. Hard as it is, Sani Kaita, you are forgiven. |
Anthem just reminds me of wasted years, missed opportunities, with a slight hint of shame! |
WTF. Why on earth should a manager, or anyone for that matter, slap a colleague at work. What is it in Nigeria that breeds hostile, violent tendencies?. Our Kaitarism to much sha ![]() |
Guys, please anger and anguish aside, don't forget we are the GIANTS of Africa oo!! ![]() |
