Nairaland General › Re: What Is The Most Life Threatening Incident That You Have Survived And How?? by DaGC(m): 11:05pm On Sep 11, 2014
I've been in 2 life threatening situations but I'm uncomfortable talking about 1.

A couple years ago, I was in Jigawa. 1 night, a friend drove over with his fiance, picked me up for a night of fun. We drank and danced till like midnight or so. There is a federal road linking Kano, through Jigawa down to Katsina state. Cars are almost always on high speed on this road. When we got to the roadside, we needed to cross over cause I lived on the other side and they were gonna drop me off before going home. There was this car coming on high speed honking and flashing its light from distance, we stopped for it to pass before we will make our move. Unfortunately, my dude was drunk and he waited till the car was close before he ventured into the road. The incoming driver swerved and crashed into the rear side of our car. I was sitting in the rear sit. My head smashed the door glass, I had a blackout for a couple seconds. When I recovered and was dragged outside the car, I noticed the incoming car crashed under a truck filled with wood parked on the road side. It was badly damaged but airbags saved the driver. Ours was badly damaged too, but fortunately for all, there was really no major injuries. We all survived. The man wasn't even pissed. He just offered thanks to Allah, checked on us and that was it. Some Northeners are friendly folks.
Romance › Re: Dating Without Sex Is It Not Possible? by DaGC(m): 10:46pm On Sep 11, 2014
I once knew a couple that dated for 3years without sex. Was a classmate, but older than me by about a decade or so, but we were good friends despite the age gap. I'm going to be honest, we did make fun of the dude a lot, but he never faltered. Weird thing was he was sexually active before he met her, but after meeting her, the sex just didn't matter. The love was just something else. Some of us even tried to set him up with other girls but he never faltered. Only thing in his heart was the girl.
They are now happily married in Jos with a daughter.
There are some really amazing people (both genders) out there that don't think sex is everything, or that its linked to the success of a relationship.

Romance › Re: Undergraduate Couples by DaGC(m): 3:43pm On Sep 11, 2014
Honestly, I don't really understand why. I know 2 that are married with kids, and another just proposed to his girl even though they are still in school (in their finals though). The married ones get financial support from family members for now, until they can get a job or another venture that brings income.

Its really baffling to me.

Phones › Re: Apple Unveils The 4.7-inch Iphone 6 With Retina HD Screen by DaGC(m): 8:16pm On Sep 10, 2014
Broda @Dmcdad, I do get your point, although its obvious you like the iPhone more. Makes me surprised that you are using a Note II cause that money could have gotten you a 4s or a 5 sef.

Apple sure has an advantage because the OS belongs to them, so whatever phone they produce, they maximise it to work at optimal performance with their OS hence the integration. Unline google that doesn't make their own phones. The Nexus line are the smoothest offerings on android because they run 'pure andriod' but even google outsource them to other OEMs. I'm sure if produced their own phones they might have optimised it to work at optimal levels with their OS. I kinda like what Microsoft is doing with Windows phone at the moment, although other OEMs are also offering Windows phone too, so the best really would have to be the Nokia Lumia line ups because they belong to Microsoft. I've see the fluidity of a single core Windows phone and I was amazed.
None is perfect though. Apple lacks customisations, true multitasking, its a hackers delight hence data aint usually safe with them etc, Andriod requires more resources, prone to viruses, windows phone doesn't offer much with apps, and despite the GPU on the phone, it tends to have the final say on graphics quality on its games, you can't really tweak it etc.
Wasn't impressed with you supporting the claim that HTC's ultrapixels beat Sammy's megapixels in picture quality though. That was a real doozy. The iPhone might still be stuck on 8MPs for the 4th phone running, but it can sure take a quality photo, but even so, it won't blow the S4 or the S5 away so easily as you implied. It might even lose in some situations. But you were right in saying that the only phones that could top its quality easily are the top end Lumia phones.
FYI, HTC and Sony should be ashamed of their cameras especially Sony. Such nice designs with solid build quality should also a nice user experience to go with it.

Sorry, the post got long. I didn't mean to ramble much. Back to watching our 'super houseflies'.

dmcdad: Bros no vex abeg... No hard feelings. I dey use Android like this, infact I dey make this post from my Note II.

The thing just be say, every OS and every OEMs get their own advantages and otherwise. But the way people dey take tackle Apple ehn, e dey somewhat unreasonable.

But anyhow sha, if I don in any way take this personal, make una forgive me. cheesy Just airing my own view as regards the matter on ground. No offence intended.
Nothing to forgive bruv, you were just sharing your opinion. I just fear say your blood just dey too hot against android like wetin wan explode. I no even know say na android you sef dey use. The way you take yarn ehn, person for feel say you be staunch iPhone user o.

I was just glad you said the truth about no OS being perfect. They all have their benefits and shortcomings.

But the way you hype the iPhone ehn, I con dey fear say even if Apple put VGA camera for any iPhone, you go still talk say e beat the best wey andriod get.

Missing ball was really easy on ISS. Stand stationary, press C once, and press forward. The player lifts the ball over his head and the forward you pressed takes you past the ball. No more ball on your feet. Walk inside the net, press C again (tackle) and the ball comes out and commentator screams 'goal goal goal goal goal'.
Then there was walkman, rubber bands, football with beer covers, explosive matchstick guns, boris cars, kite flying, jumping on vans passing by, fishing, koto playing (some people don't call it koto: its a lighter version of snail, don't know its official name), football, acrobatics, plus the usual se.xual experimentation with the girls, co-habitation role plays etc. #Nostalgic

AncientJerk: guy Rojo is a Centre Back that can play LB

Blind is a DMF that can play LWB and has occasisonaly played CB

how can you seriously believe even for a second that utd would buy 3 left backs at a cumulative cost of about 66 million GBPhuh? doesnt something seem a little odd about that?

and yes there is a very serious problem up front. our strikers seem incapable of creating chances for themselves, RVP has suddenly gone anonymous and in the absence of Welbeck and Chicharito whom i am glad to see go, who would we turn to?

the midfield with Carrick Di Maria, Herrerra, Blind, Fellaini, Cleverly will be enough for now.

people need to understand that the entire team has had gaping problem areas for a while and these were never gonna get fixed in one season. we bough 3 central midfield players in one season!! shocked

we'll have to make do
We didn't sign Rojo playing CB for Argentina/Sporting Lisbon. He did play at CB earlier in his career, but has been playing LB for the last couple years as his strong point. So, Rojo still plays LB, Shaw is a left back and Blind played LWB at the world cup and at times for Ajax, so yes, I believe for more than a second that United spent over £66M on left backs. Although, I'm sure LVG plans to use them in other positions.

Yes, people need to know that the squad has been mediocre for years and needed restructuring.

This is the 1st time in my many years supporting Man United that I'm seeing stars putting on the famous red jersey. Its a thing of joy. We will make do according to what you said, but I still stand by what I said earlier about our defence being a priority right now. Sucked that Vermalaen and Hummels refused to move.

Oh, spending £24M (£6M + £18M in wages)for a 1year loan seems rather extreme.

Finally, I doff my hat to Ferguson for being able to achieve so much with such a mediocre squad. Seems almost like magic. Looking forward to more glory with LVG.

heatmeup: united have a big problem with attack first of all rvp has no strong competitior but with the arrival of falcao he will buckle up,then blind is a good passer of the ball he definately will play holding midfield, rojo and jones will b a good combination, this should make evans buckle up too,my prayers is just that this is the time we need the full form of rafael to operate as a wing back.then tyler needs more playing experience and i dont think man utd have that luxry of time.i hope herrea and carrick come back soon.i see goals reigning soon
United have no "big problem with attack". It could have survived the next couple of seasons without Falcao. RVP and Wayne are quality players and Welbeck and Javier were good back up for them. It would have survived a couple more seasons, but a defence line that lost Vidic, Ferdinand and Evra needed revamping and all we've got to solve that problem are 3 left backs (Shaw, Rojo and Blind). Blind though can play at Centre back and defensive midfield despite playing wingback all through the world cup. And since Van Gaal's formation doesn't really favour wingers, Di Maria was another thing I wasn't expecting, because the number 10 role in United has more than 1 player for it(Mata, Januzaj even Wayne). Carrick is the only holding midfielder but at 32, one starts to prepare for the worst. Herrera will prove to be a quality signing because he's creative but we need an enforcer. Playing Di Maria in central midfield would limit his productivity because he normally plays as a number 10 or as a winger.
Well, Van Gaal's in charge. I wanna see how he makes all these work.

heatmeup: how many years has he spenthuhhuhhuh
I didn't say I wanted him out. I think he's more than capable. My pleading was for him to address the poor defence line and get quality defenders and probably a good holding midfielder. United has no problem with its attack.

The United States has the distinct advantage of being thousands of miles away from its foes, but it would be utterly foolish, even for them, to think they'll probably win any war.
