BusinessRe: Why Is Africa Not Developing? by DaHitler(m): 8:16pm On Jun 17, 2006
Seun, everything is relative. Africa is not developing, and it definitely is not developing at a "good" pace. What is holding Africa back is honesty.

Enough of all this crap about people wanting to rule massive territories that do not belong to their people.

What Africa needs is a list of every major ethnic group on the continent (Ethnic groups with 5 million or more people) and use that as the basis on which new borders and nations are created. Enough of all this pretending like these boundaries mean anything other than administrative facades put in place by the colonialist. Get back to the drawing board or fail to progress.

Any wise military man will tell you that no battle plan survives the first shot of battle. It is the same way that no false border is able to advance at an acceptable pace.

And lastly, Mariory, there won't be so much in-fighting if the borders actually made sense. At the moment, they don't. Hence, if people cannot have sensible borders, they will fight to dominate the already existing borders.
PoliticsDemocracy Without Literacy by DaHitler(op): 7:52pm On Jun 17, 2006
Is that possible? Can you have democracy without a high level of literacy? I mean, what agendas are the people using as a basis to choose their candidates?

Lately, I have seen several posts from fellow posters discussing the will of the masses, but yet, I hear nothing about the appalling rate of literacy in the country. If you cannot read, then how do you form an independent opinion on issues. You are being held hostage, even in your democracy, by the political ruling class. The people are being told what to believe, when to believe it, and to what extent it should be believed.

Something has to change. I know I am not the only one that finds it ironic that Nigerians will line up at the polls to vote for candidate that they can't even read his/her name. Talkless of basing their votes on credible information or past record of the candidate.

What are your thoughts about the literacy problem in Nigeria. And to what extent are a people deserving of democracy when they fail to understand written language?

PoliticsRe: EFCC: A Personal Tool Of President Obasanjo? by DaHitler(m): 7:13pm On Jun 17, 2006
If by tool, you mean it selectively administers justice, then yes, it is a tool. However, I think it is best to have as much justice as you can, than to have no justice at all.

In all honestly, my final judgment on EFCC will come after the expiration of the current term of office. Out of the 24 governors, President and VP that are ineligible for re-election, if less than half of them are charged with corruption, I will know for sure that the EFCC is faulty. I mean, it only stands to reason that in 8 years, just about all members of the executive would either have stolen funds, mis-appropriated contracts, violated due process e.t.c.

PoliticsRe: Many Bakassi Residents Prefer Nigeria by DaHitler(m): 7:00pm On Jun 17, 2006
It is a terrible move. If anything, He should have given out the rights to drill oil in Bakassi to the Cameroonians, but reserved the territory as official Nigerian land.

I will say that a relative stranger asking you for money is a pretty strong indicator that he or she is a scammer.
CrimeRe: CNN Report: 'How To Rob A Bank.' Do We Deserve The Insult? by DaHitler(m): 6:52pm On Jun 17, 2006
That is terrible. Bad publicity is not what Nigeria needs at this time. However, I can't say it is not something the country deserves. Try not to let the bad press get to you. Afterall, you must admit, Nigeria does have a problem with armed robbers.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Should I Ban Afeni Permanently? by DaHitler(m): 6:44pm On Jun 17, 2006
Okay, what about Afeni is annoying? Honestly, truth be told, I don't like your defeatist attitudes towards issues relating to Nigeria. It is like you are constantly deleting my posts and moving perfectly acceptable threads I make to back-water channels so others will not see it. Clearly, you are letting your personal views on issues cloud your judgment.

I keep my posts free from curse words. I make sure they are relatively free from error. My posts open the mind of the reader to new ideas. Yes, I don't post a lot about economical systems, which seems to be your interest, I just think that Nigeria is facing more pressing issues than discussing to what extent capitalism should be implemented.

The comments I made towards Mariory were perfectly justified. He used a Government spokeman's comment to prove that the Executive branch of government was not abusing power. Clearly, that is just a play on the intelligence of the reader.

And lastly, I am intelligent and I post on Nairaland. If you really think intelligent posters are looking for a forum that acts like a mouth-piece of the Nigerian Administration, you are mistaken. The only reason why I think some intelligent posters might not post on the political forum is because it is too guarded. Just about any issue that is worth seriously debated is kept off limits. Threads that talk about the moral and official basis on which Nigeria deserves to live or die are off limits. But yet, we find that the political forum is busting at the seems with pan-African and Nigerian patriotic threads that just fail to spark the interest of the reader.
CrimeRe: CNN Report: 'How To Rob A Bank.' Do We Deserve The Insult? by DaHitler(m): 6:34pm On Jun 17, 2006
Brushparke, did they only televise this programme in Nigeria, and if not, was it directed at Nigeria?

Because, from the information you posted, it seems to be that it was just an editorial telling the viewer how to rob a bank.

Nairaland GeneralRe: Seun Please Unban Akolawole by DaHitler(m): 6:26pm On Jun 17, 2006
Speaking of Seun banning. . . he also has the habit of censoring my post. I post solid credible information and next thing I know, it is deleted or moved to some back-water section of the forum where no one else can see it. It is as if he is afraid that others will see and agree with what I have to say. Now, if I were to post some hard-line capitalist non-sense, I bet he would have it stickied on the front page of the political section. undecided

PoliticsRe: Who Should Be the Next President of Nigeria? by DaHitler(m): 11:21am On Jun 17, 2006
Orinkila, good post. Nigeria has a problem with the ruling class. Now, I do not believe, like you do, that the ruling class is the only problem with Nigeria. Ignorance is also a major problem with Nigeria.

It is this same ignorance that allows Nigerians to accept anything less than constant electricity and access to fresh roads. This same ignorance tha allows Nigerian to accept political parties that fail to provide clear views on critical issues like resource allocation and State rights.

I don't believe that the average Nigerian is stupid, but the lack of exposure to outside ideas is showing its effects on the mental well-being of the people.
PoliticsRe: Bbc Africa's "what Do You Think Of Nigeria" A Sensible Forum? by DaHitler(m): 11:15am On Jun 17, 2006
toshmann, you make a very good point. However, it seems that many others, (seun, maory and co) are hell bent on making Nigeria appear positive. In regardless of wheather what they say match the reality on the ground.

The sooner they learn that only pointing out the positive (or in this case, making up positive things that don't correlate with what is on the ground) promotes complacency in the minds of Nigerian. Afterall, what is the incentive to try something new when you are being told that you have the best country in the world? Or that Nigeria is the pride of Africa?
