dialolodge: My camry 2.2 99 model power steering pump failed leading to the steering not turning freely without much exertion of muscle. I have tried replacing the pump but it appears that after 3 different pumps were fixed, the car steering remains the same. My mechanic is suggesting that it may be from my steering rack, don't know how possible that is. Please Gazzuzz and othe auto gurus in the house I need advise on what to do as I am losing sleep over this. Note: steering rack was replaced about 4 months ago. Also check your steering shaft U-joints (or whatever joints they're called). |

redcliff: Late night post.
Fast forward, I am setting up the various parts to be sprayed. put the out on a dry outside. The weather is super nice. but i had to wear some long sleeved T-shirt with a hat just to prevent the sun from burning me. (yes, It does burn black folks too). Basically, I used just 2 spray cans and it seems it did a pretty good job overall. I put on over 8- 9 coats (or even more) on and I am sure it would be staying a while
NB: I already sprayed the fork for the bicycle some days before doing this.. so the fork itself basically looks Matt at the moment. but i did a touch up on it several times. to give it a thick finish. See as you spread bicycle ontop rope, abi na under. |

I haven't seen the car and I am happy a fellow Nigerian is doing this, we need more of this in the country. I drive a geely, and I love the car! I would rather buy that car than buy an Asian car. It either a Nigerian car or an American or European car! It time Nigerians start supporting their own, that the way we will grow. Na the foolish government wey we get cause am. Other countries would have made that car the National car, improve production and export to other African countries. I hope the tariff of foreign cars are increased! Erm... Bross, Geely is Asian oh, Chinese to be precise. |
Car Talk › Re: Pumping Our Tyres At The Roadside During High Humidity; Any Risks? by DaimlerBen(m): 9:39am On May 22, 2016 |
adanny01: Where is temperature? Both Charles and Boyle's law relates to temperature. Why did you keep it aside?
Anyways, sorry that i didnt mention all the laws and the particular one relating to this matter. There are actually 3 gas laws with respect to pressure, volume and temperature. I mentioned the first 2 but forgot the name of the last. I just remembered it.
Its Gay-Lussac's law which states that when a volume of a gas is kept constant pressure is directly proportional temperature.
Note that a tire only changes in shape but not in volume. Any tire that changes in volume will not carry the weight of the car.
Pressure cooker, constant volume, increase in temperature gives rise to increase in pressure.
The Nescafe can example volume is kept constant to a limit, as temperature increases pressure in the can increases till the cover (volume) can no longer hold the pressure. Tyres do change volume. That's why we "inflate" and not panelbeat them. |

Car Talk › Re: Hmnm... To Buy Or Not To Buy. Mercedes Benz 1988 500 SEC by DaimlerBen(m): 2:04am On Apr 29, 2016 |
PapiWata: Hello Redcliff. My profession is not auto engineering, however I am very familiar with the power plants fitted into Mercedes Benz V8 cars that date back to the period often referred to as the Golden Age of Mercedes, namely from 1983 to 1998, when those cars were built from a purely engineering standpoint, and with no expense spared in the pursuit of performance, precision handling and raw power. Sadly that tradition of engineering is no more followed by Mercedes, as they churn out overly complicated and trouble-prone designs that fail often and early, for a variety of reasons relating to shoddy design hampered by cost-cutting imperatives dictated by accountants who routinely over-rule engineering recommendations.
I must correct a typographical error in my earlier response. The members of the W126 family of Mercedes fitted with V8 engines utilized the M117 engine, and not the later released M119 as I stated above. Specifically your 1988 Merc 500 SEC is powered by the M117.968 five-liter engine. The recommendation to replace the timing chain and upper plastic chain guides is still correct for the M117 motor, and you can expect to get an average of 6 years trouble-free motoring each time you replace the chain and its associated guides, assuming your commute averages about 10 thousand miles per year. Despite this small inconvenience, the M117 and M119 engines are widely regarded as THE most reliable and powerful engines EVER to roll of the Mercedes assembly line since the dawn of the automotive age.
Enjoy that SEC, brother man, and prepare to feed your need for speed at the helm of that that old-school road rocket. Can the M119 fit into the SEC? It seems to have received more accolades, with better power & efficiency than the M117. What 6-speed tranny can be paired with it? |

Siena: 2 words:
Tree sap.
In hot weather, tree sap is released, and descends. This is why a car parked under a tree for as little as 8 hours in the blazing sun, gets coated by a sticky residue. It feels rough to the touch, and the acids contained will damage your paintwork, regardless of the colour. It will also corrode any exposed metal, dull chrome and permanently mark brushed aluminium surfaces.
If it is allowed to build up, over time it will damage clear coat on metallic paintwork, and discolour non-metallic paint. Tree sap also causes windscreen wipers and rubber seals to harden and crack.
Tree sap is not an issue in cold weather, as it is not produced at cool temperature. So, if worst comes to shove, park under the tree or park in the sun? I thought parking in the sun damages both your exterior & interior. Aren't there safe species we can manage? |
