perhaps why divorce rates are so high these days. Little children, immature adults and irresponsible folks getting married with a warped sense of what marriage is all about. By the time they realise marriage isnt all about endless partying and unbridled sex they are already headed to the irreconcilable differences route as an excuse for their divorce.

The issue of divorce only started arising when on advice of the Tiger, 'The Lioness' decided to challenge the authority of the 'Lion' as King of the jungle. Something she regrets till today. lol!

there is no space for you anywhere- maybe if you dream hard enough you will land back in 300bc (or whatever the era) when solomon was marrying his 1000 wives.

Lol! you had better stay away from Mars o! no Brazilian or Indian hair there. Were going to be rebuilding and you know women dont like the building part. They like ready made. This time we will put up defences to prevent an overtake as you took us by surprise on earth.

Oh!! How i miss the days when men were MEN. The days when a woman sees her "Hubby"bring in a fourth wife and wife No1,2 &3 join him to welcome her with a broad smile on their faces without asking questions. The days when men gave instructions without hearing the question "why". The days when "Solomon"could keep 300wives and 700 concubines and no 'human right' lawyer could raise objection etc.

Oops! I appear to be dreaming, Its now a womans world. lol! Guys abeg make we go colonize Mars start afresh. lol!

Ok, leme get my shield up as i expect all the women in the house to through all sorts at me. lol!

People come home because they realise theres more important things in life than enjoying natural a/c while suffering and smiling. Also, even if you have money abroad, you soon realise theres more important things like Family, friends, daily adventures of nija life, etc. These are the things that keep you going. Iv been abroad a while and i will tell you BOREDOM experienced is an understatement. Besides, most europeans will never leave their home country for anything.

You are there, in the morning you will say 'yes it's morning' in the evening you will say 'yes it's evening'. Roaming the streets doing virtually nothing.
Anyway, for those of us that are tired of roaming aimlessly, we have decided to take up these tricycles to better our lives. If you have problem with that, it's your business and you will continue to be broke, always begging for money. I am a graduate and through this keke empowerment, men! am living and feeding my family while I have gone back to school to continue my studies doing my Masters programme.

Tricycle for all the billions he has flushed down the drains with nothing to show for in 8years. This is the last straw for this guy where im concerned. homerac7: @ Da Mayor, Omoola and Reference,

I hail u "men" (please forgive if any of u is a woman) for your informed contributions.

i guess Late Pres Yar'Adua awarded the contract for the windfarm.

6MW turbines are mega-top-of-d-end machines, although its cost of generation per KW is lesser and pay back period shorter, never d less, its initial investment is damn high.

the 2 most important technical factors in siting a wind farm are quality and quantity of wind. these two factors would help predict the electricity yield upon whc d sizing of turbines and economics or investment is based.

location Katsina is a plain surface (relatively) with low surface roughness value, low turbulence and on North Easterly windstream originating from Sahara, so it has good potential for viable windfarm.

comparing Euro and Nigeria is not technically correct at first instance because equipment selection for wind farm is site specific.

Hello, i completely agree with your analysis, as i said, im not against this project as i believe renewables are the future (70yrs+-20), but you only make more investments when previous investments are yielding good returns. were talking about a country that cannot maintain a dam, cannot power up gas turbines, cannot construct good roads, cannot maintain street lights, and were venturing into wind energy?? lol! Plug leaking holes then we can begin to fill the bucket with water.
By the way i attach a file of recent wind farm developments, just so you can see advancements as the years go by and understand why i say its a joke. even kenya is commissioning a 300mw (Lake turkana)wind farm by 2014 and at a cost of 582million euros (especially as our beloved poster didnt tell us how much our govt is spending on our 10mw project).

Politics / Re: Nigeria’s First Wind Farm Goes Onstream In Katsina by DaMayor1: 11:31pm On Apr 12, 2012
I think i should clarify something, if you want 10kw wind turbine, you will get in the market, but were not talking about power generation for a chicken house. We're talking power generation to the National grid for the entire country. I believe we should stop playing politics with issues as serious as these and begin to question the decisions of our policy makers. From the looks of this, someone was looking for how to siphon some money and this just seems to be a ploy. Give the people something and they wont complain. Of course you will have your opinion, but unfortunately this is Nigeria and we know how this works. I challenge them to make public amount allocated for this project for further scrutiny.

You can liken this to a case where someone constructs a highway without adequate courses(ie layers). You might clap and praise him/her, but it doesnt hide the fact that the citizens have been cheated because 6months down the line its back to square one.

Morale of the story, don't be content with the crumbs from the table!!

omoola007:

When you say efficiency and cost effectiveness. You can't compare Naija and Europe. What's the cost per kw in NAija vs Europe. That's the basis for Europe opting for more efficient systems that can be technically supported. A ford is cost effective in Yankee. A jaguar is cost effectice in The UK but bring it to yankee and sweat bullets. Location and local experience matters. If you compare with diesel( current cost basis in NAija) almost anything will pass a finance guy's test for viability.

We can't use European standards in Nigeria or more correctly we can't hold Nigeria to European standards it will always fail. It's like the average student taking further maths. He probably will get good marks in algebra but will certainly fail further maths.

Your 6mw in Europe is like our own 1mw.

Btw all over Yankee, 1mw is the most used. They are all over the west coast and coastal areas in the east even on mountains in NY and Pennslyvania.

Hello, i agree you will find 1mw turbines, but pls ask what year they were installed. As i said earlier considering the billions that must have been budgeted for this project, knowing my beloved country, I honestly believe they could have gotten a better deal. (37 turbines for a meager 10mw is a waste in my opinion).
But seriously 37 turbines for 10mw in this age and time?? thats not even enough to power a standard dredging vessel. lol!
Please i repeat, im not against this project, but i strongly believe we (in Nigeria) cannot afford to be experimenting with expensive renewables as our gas turbines and hydro sources are begging for attention..

Sure, you're right. Even the wind thing in the north is rather strange. I thought wind farms were associated with coastal areas or hinterland mountain passes rather than flat, dry locations such as Katsina.

By the way are you into renewables. Just curious.

I design support structures for the offshore industry, wind turbines inclusive.

Haba, take it easy, a 3.5mw disc is the very top end, the V12 of wind generation. There are only a hand full installed globally and for a pilot project your first car should not be a Ferrari. Cost is another factor. A couple of years ago it was the equiv. of N 1 billion per megawatt - installed. That is steep, higher than coal, gas and only comparable to nuclear so I don't blame them. The cash may not be there and who knows, the conditions out there. The word here is caution.

True talk, but if you say 3.5mw is top end, what will you call 6mw. lol! as this is already being used. As i said, its a positive step, but a misplaced priority. I believe they should be spending money improving the existing infrastructure of Hydro and natural gas turbines till these renewables become more stable and affordable for developing countries to adopt.

GAR3TH:

There are 37 wind turbines in this project with each generating 275-kW for a total of 10.175 MW. I dont know were you got your information but 3.5mw is not the norm, 1-MW is the norm but depending on the wind conditions and site conditions the required turbine might change. In this case a 275-kw turbine was considered efficient for this project. So in conclution there are 37 (not 3) wind trubines in this site, which makes it a farm.

http://www.vergnet.com/pdf/fiches/en/nigeria-katsina.pdf

Boss, efficiency and economics is the limiting criteria for such projects. I can assure you turbines of these capacities (275kw) are not installed anywhere in the developed world as the returns on investment would not be worthwhile.
I can only say im in this industry and based in europe (leaders in wind energy development).
Please note im not against this development, but i honestly believe they could have gotten a better deal. (37 turbines for a meager 10mw is a waste in my opinion)
Best Regards

kelvincoll: Well as long as it can be put into good use and ofcos sustainable. Its not a bad project. we need all the power no matter how little and frm what means we can get in the country!

Find pix of d project from my friends page

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=312693632085554&set=a.312691665419084.71215.100000347603378&type=3&theater

Hi Kelvin, i agree we need all the power, but not if the cost of getting that power far outweighs its benefits. Any professional will tell you that maintaining a turbine is damn expensive compared to the benefits. these turbines are still being upgraded regularly. we now have 6mw turbines. Thats why there was a deadlock at the last environmental summit, as developing nations are not soo keen to adopt these alternative sources till theres stability in the industry. Our govt will do well to tow the same line and better improve our hydro and natural gas supplies (for now).

This post has to be a joke. Now i think the author should check the definition of "wind farm" before using the heading. the most commonly used wind turbines generate 3.5mw of electricity each. Hence i will assume there are only 3 turbines in this "farm". A standard wind farm has btw 50-200 turbines to be qualified as a "Wind farm"
Oh Nigeria! i weep for thee. Another waste project
