seyewest:Thanks , the USA embassy is aware that I was a single mum with a child born in U.K. I had applied for visit to USA in 2013 but was denied |
Hi nairalanders mums and Dad Pls I need ur advise , am currently pregnant and traveling to USA for delivery. I want my 1st child to come over on visit when school is on Easter holiday has she as not travelled to USA before I won't be around for her interview so my husband will b taking her. Now this is where I need advise I gave birth to her while studying in d U.K. 2008, was a single mum till I married in 2014, ( I have a court shown affidavit stating am solely responsible for her up keep) I don't know d whereabouts of her biological father as in all U.K. Visa applications I leave the father information blank even in d documentation of her Nigerian passport father's information is blank. When I applied for USA visa birthing purpose in 2016 I and my husband where asked if he had adopted her and we said yes . Reason was that we were already considering it. After the interview I went to d appropriate ministry to start the process and was told that since the father is a Nigerian I need a letter from my child's biological father as long as he is still alive or from his family stating they agree to d adoption. This put me in a very sad emotional touture as it reminded me of what I went through in that relationship and how so hard I tried then to exterblish a relationship between the father and child while I was in U.K. And even wen I came back to Nigeria. Also at some point in Nigeria Due to the way school educate kids I noticed in my child's exam booklet she had a great score but left a particular answer blank so I checked d question and it writes what is the duty of a father. I realized she didn't know cos I was doing very thing as a single mum. At that point I spoke to few elderly people who advised in Nigeria law that the man owns d child. I went through d pain travelled to lagos to locate where his mother lives after hours of searching d area I eventually located it but she travelled out of d country. Collected her Neighbour's contact , came back to abuja and kept calling just to b able to reach her. After 2 months of continued calls I was able to speak to her, told her I let my child talk to her grandma for the first time and after giving d phone back to me she said I should never call her again that when d child grows will look for her father. That day I wept bitterly cos her son never denied d pregnancy, I wasn't contacting cos I needed money or for they to take care of d child. I was doing so cos of d society we live in Nigeria. That was d only day my child saw me break down in tears and on that day I vowed not to contact his mum again as for him I don't even know his whereabout. Am sorry my mail is so long but I believe you need to have a true picture to b able to advise me properly. I have filled my child's USA visa visa form using b1 and where father's information was asked ini didn't fill it. It's my husband sponsoring my child's trip so pls where it's asked for sponsor will I fill in parent? And if asked about d adoption what would my husband's response b as I will not b there with them during d interview. Thanks you so much will b waiting to read from u. |

[quote author=ashedzi post=54770068]Good Day all, pls from previous parts, Mummies here notarized their forms(without date on it) right from 9ja b4 going on their Missionary journey for those that DH won't be around when baby comes and some states accepted it. Is this still acceptable? Or I would have to wait for baby's arrival then DH books an appointment @ the Embassy and he sent to me thereafter??[/quote You don't need an appointment ,you just walk in at the embassy |
esosa4real:No they don't contact you to submit your passport, your respond (the transit visa permit) is online sent to your email. You just print it and have it with you as you travel, it already contains your passport details which you wi hand over to the immigration in canada and this document is valid for I think 3years (not so sure about the numbers of years but I know it's either 3 or 4years) |
Nozzle:Try contacting an agent tell them to enroute your trip to USA through canada but your return can be through canada or Frankfort. Although layover in canada can b abit lengthy eg 7-13hrs. The only thing u will need to do after you buy the ticket is to apply for Canadian transit visa and its easy ,you need to apply for it online. It takes less than 24hrs for it to b approved. |
Good morning nairaland mamas and papas , thanks for all help and informations. Went for interview in abuja with DH middle of December, 2016. we were interviewed by a young lady. CBP - Good morning ,passports pls Dh and I - good morning and passed it over CBP - Why do u want to travel Dh and I - to have our baby in USA. CBP - what do u do Me- ...... Business Dh- work in .... Company as .... CBP - how long have u worked there Dh - ....yrs CBP. - Have u been married before Me - no , was a single parent Dh- no CBP - How long have u been married Dh and I - .... Years CBP - how did u both meet Dh and I - line of business both smiling CBP- oh ! OK CBP - how much is available for your trip Dh and l- about $15000-$16000 CBP- have u contacted a hospital and what's the name. Me- yes, wycknoff hospital , new york CBP- who will look after ur child while u are away Dh - my mother. Your visa has been approved pick up in three days, when u get to the poe be honest with them the way you are with me. That was how the white sheet was handed over to us. Part 2 - Poe's experience on 6th of January, 2017 I had to travel alone , Came in through new Jersey- ,EWR airport. Ordered a wheelchair so for the plane was wheeled to immigration. Me - hello, the guy that was pushing the wheelchair already had my passport so he hands it over, was still sitting on the wheelchair. Poe- put ur 4 right fingers on the machine, so why are u here Me- am here to have my baby Poe- asked again as if he didnt here me ,why are u here. Me- to give birth, am pregnant. (I was really really showing) Poe left for a few seconds don't know what he told or asked his superior but I overheard that one say if you are not satisfied send her over to .... Room. I was just praying in my mind for God's favour. Poe- what do u do I told him Poe - how much money is available for this trip? As u all know how dollars hard to find for Nigeria cash was $1600 and about £200 plus $5000 in card. And I told him my husband will b coming before I give birth with more money. Poe- smiled and said welcome, sure u are happy. now. I said ofcos yes, thank you so much and was wheeled to pickup my bag. Am so I take enter America ook. So grateful to all that contributed and are still contributing to this forum. I gained so much knowledge. God bless you all. Sorry about the long story. |
Pls as anybody got an idea of how to get dollars at affordable rates? Or if travelex is still opened at the airport in abuja. I was at travelex office in Skye bank area 11 and was told travelex as closed for the year |
@ada87 I will advice u give the child ur surname if u will have anything to do with Nigeria embassy in the USA. I had a similar experience in uk while schoolling although not married in anyway to the guy, during my pregnancy our relationship went sour but after given birth I gave the baby his surname (after been advised by family members) ,although I didn't include his name in the bc because he wasn't really ready to support in anyway. Everything was fine till I decided to get her a Nigerian passport. At Nigerian embassy in London was asked whose surname my child bears and I said the father. I was asked to get the consent letter from him which he won't give me. I was made to understand that in Nigeria the father of the child owns the child but in UK its the mother that owns the child. To cut the long story short , had to go to court to swear affidavit that am solely responsible for the child and then changed the surname to mine. It was emotionally and physically stressful. And due to timing I had to get her emergency travel document to travel to Nigeria. But with the sworn affidavit and change of name I applied for Nigerian passport as a single parent and even all other visa applications too. Pls personal advice use ur surname , expect u are sure u can get consent letter and maybe bio data page of his passprt if needed from him . if everything goes well between the both of you , u can always change the child's surname to his. Good luck and God bless. |
