I was already giving up on Chidi on the 3rd day and was having a bad feeling about the girls around here. How would you promise to call and never did. That was a big sin, and God detests sin, I guess she should have come across that in their Sunday School teachings.http://www.wenogetjob..com/2015/06/she-came-with-3-friends-to-meet-me-at.html |

It was a beautiful sunny afternoon, the wind was blowing gently and there was this kind of frenzy atmosphere, everyone seemed to be in a light mood under the big mango tree, right at the gate of my PPA. Myself, Osaro, Omoh and Kiwi were busy gisting about football, I happened to be a Chelsea fan, though not a fanatic, so didn’t know much about the club’s history. But Osaro, being a die-hard Man U fan was trying to prove so many points why his team is superior to mine. All I was just saying was UP BLUES, we are the champions. ‘The only thing you know about Che…Chelsea is the colour of their jersey’ Osaro, being a light stammerer, said. ‘Is blue the only colour of Chelsea?, don’t we were brown sometimes?’ I confidently replied. Everyone burst into laughter. ‘Sometimes, they were cream color’ Kiwi rhetorically said. ‘What’s funny? Tell me if am wrong or why you all mocking me…’ I was switching into anger mode ‘Who dey mock you? Na you dey mock yourself for here’ Omoh cut in I just left the place in anger and I was going out the gate, out of nowhere I will say, came out this pretty damsel and I knew I would never forgive myself if I didn’t follow up. I tried to check my dressing and wiped sweat off my face, used my mouth spray and even applied a little of the spray on my palm, incase am lucky to get a hand shake. I moved closer and tried to perceive the fragrance in my mouth, but covering my mouth with my palm and blowing a gentle air. It smelt nice. I cleared my throat twice and said Hi. She looked back and before she knew it, I had caught up with here. We were both walking side-by-side now. ‘Am Dami, and I am not sure you live in this vicinity’ That was my trademark introduction. ‘No’ she replied, ‘Just passing by’ ‘Okay, so can you do me the honour of telling me what your name is?’ ‘Am ChidiEbele and you?’ She asked I felt butterflies flying in my tummy as she asked me my name, not even remembering that was the 1st thing I told her, but I don’t mind anyway, I repeated myself and told her I will like to be her friend. She said no problem just that she is in a hurry and won’t mind me giving her my number that she would call. I asked to get hers but she refused and I didn’t want to lose on both ends, so I succumbed and gave her mine and hoping and praying she calls. We parted and I went back to my friends. They had all noticed me with the lady and were all hailing as I was approaching. ‘Up bluessssssss’ they all chorused ‘Abi na, up brownsssssss’ Osaro jokingly said. I just smiled and had a seat and narrated the whole deal to them. I was just staring at my phone and hoping to receive here call. Then at that moment did a strange call came in and excitedly I picked. Changed my voice to a cleaner, sweeter one and said ‘ Hello’ ‘Will you like to participate in our on-going promo of who wants to be a Millionaire?’ The voice of a lady said at the other end. Damn , it was my network provider calling. I hissed and just disconnected the call. ‘Stupid people’ I venomously said. Everyone just burst into laughter. It happened that Chidi never called until the 3rd day. READ THE PREVIOUS SERIES ON www.wenogetjob..com |

I was eventually absorbed into the school system and despite that, I still pressed on with my transfer to the bank, which through God’ s miracle, eventually happened, though not as a full staff member. My first day at the classroom was so interesting as the students were so elated to have a young looking and handsome corps member like me in their midst, I posses this stature that would even make me pass as one of them. So I believe they consider me their kind and so were all free to approach me. One thing that amazed me was the names Igbo people bear. They are nice name though but very funny. I noticed names like SomtoChukwu, Nonso, Ekene, Chinedu etc was so common among them and not only that, Igbo people love bearing English names. I remember a very brilliant boy like that, FyneCountry, how can a name be FyneCountry?, one even bears Hilltree, and I wonder how the parents could have come across such names. It’s cool though, as these kids seem to like it. One other thing I noticed about Igbo people is there adoption of the English Man’s culture in terms of child upbringing, they act as white men would do. A typical Igbo father will hardly spank his child, he will decide to only give a stern warning and asked the child to promise not to repeat the wrongdoing. I also marveled at the sophistication of the Igbo people in terms of mechanization. They seem to be so versed in the mechanics and have almost every specialized device for every activity. You will hardly see an Igbo woman hawk heavy market stuffs on her head; she will rather use a wheelbarrow to ease the stress. And almost every household has a wheelbarrow over there. Another thing I noticed about the Igbo people is the possession of different food varieties. These people seem to have taken conscious efforts in developing all kinds of delicious meals especially the soups. Its also a common sight to see ladies riding on motorcycles on the road. I just wonder how that could have gotten into the Igbo culture. I don' t think i would ever have ridden on a bike that is driven by a lady. It would simply look funny. I love them soups, is it Oha, Ofesala, Banga, Okazi, Cocoyam leaf soup, Ogbono etc and the way they spice every the soups with different kinds of fish. Mheeen!!!, it was a wonderful experience. I remember all the ladies my friends and I dated during service year could cook and that would make you wonder if they brought the talent from heaven. Though it might take them hours to cook the meal to perfection, but the few minutes you would use to consume the meals would be the best dining minutes of your life. I remember a time Oluchi, a girlfriend to one corps member came around to cook for us. She spent about 3 hours and everyone was already complaining. Osaro, a close ‘ally in crime’ , started complaining bitterly and was like “How person go dey hungry, come call una make una come cook, una go come take 3 hours cooks the meal. Shey person no go don die?” . They will pound this, crush that, grate this, scrape that, wash this. And what I like most is their raw vegetables. I just love it so much I eat it everyday. I also loved abacha so much, the coconut and cassava type though. It was always an alternative to taking garri, and sometimes I used it to eat my beans. There are two kinds of abacha , the other I don’t so much like. Doesn’t look hygienic to me, how would you mix vegetables and red oil and other stuffs like that and then mix with grated cassava and eat? No, I never tasted the thing in as much as I loved tasting new delicacies. But notwithstanding, Kudos to all Igbo girls, they are extra-ordinary when it comes to getting to a man’s heart through his stomach. And not only that, they can love especially when they know you are from the South West. I wonder what Yoruba people did to have their interest. Once an Igbo lady knows you are a foreigner in their land, she gives you that attention and would even prefer taking you as friend to other Igbo guys. …later things READ PART 1 TO 5 HERE www.wenogetjob..com |
