HealthRe: Sperm-sorting Device Could Improve IVF by Damilolly(f): 12:01am On Dec 09, 2023

Women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) may become pregnant with fewer treatment cycles by using device developed by a team of researchers from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) and Stanford University that uses an "obstacle course" to sort and select faster and healthier sperm cells for use in IVF treatment.

This new device was created by a team co-led by Erkan Tüzel, associate professor of physics, biomedical engineering, and computer science at WPI, and Utkan Demirci, professor of radiology and electrical engineering (by courtesy) at Stanford University.

The microfluidic device, which can be used in clinics, is dubbed SPARTAN, short for Simple Periodic ARray for Trapping And IsolatioN. It uses a field of three-dimensional posts that create an obstacle course for the swimming sperm cells. The strongest and healthiest sperm get through this array the fastest and then are collected at the outlet to be used in the IVF process.

Traditional sperm-sorting methods used in IVF treatments select sperm that are the fastest swimmers. The SPARTAN device collects sperm that are the fastest and also the healthiest because it culls out those with malformations, such as bent necks or larger heads, which can slow their movement.

The device select sperm with excellent motility, but also with normal morphology and better DNA integrity, helping families worldwide by reducing the stress of multiple IVF procedures, while potentially increasing pregnancy rates.

The SPARTAN device is about 4 millimeters wide and 12 to 16 millimeters long. Sperm are simply injected into one end and the fastest and healthiest are collected on the opposite end for immediate use in in vitro fertilization. The device also prevents the type of damage to cells that can occur with traditional sorting methods, such as those using high-force centrifuges.

Because SPARTAN can be used in the fertility clinic, sperm do not need to be frozen and shipped to a lab for processing; the in-clinic sorting procedure takes between 5 and 30 minutes. This new sperm-sorting device could mean that patients will spend less on IVF treatments, because with the new sperm sorting technology they could be able to become pregnant without going through as many treatment cycles.

Hello Everyone, I ran an ultrasound and the result..
It was detected that there is a subserosal fibriod on the left side of the uterus measuring 1.4cm in size, another one on the right side intramural in location measuring 1.8cm, this one is seen approaching the submicosal surface of the uterus and there is mild changes of adenomyosis. My doctor isn't available to analyze the result for me

I want to undergo ivf soon and was wondering if these things can hinder the success of the ivf, @blendy77, towerofgrace . Also if anyone has had a successful ivf with fibriod and all.

Thank you
These don't seem of much concern.

I had a saline hystersonogram and it showed a 2.5cm subserous fibroid 11% in the cavity. Some docs say it's minute and is of no effect other say, well it might help to remove it. However, there's the risk of scaring when tampering with the uterus. Interested in other's thoughts.

There are some hospital that have success rate. But still have some failed once. I think when going for ivf let's allow to God to lead and lets be prayerful. My fertility doctor that did my ivf does not have a ivf center of his own. But has three different hospital. And the center he used for ivf is not one of those that is very popular. But with the help of God I got pregnant on my first transfer.
Thanks for your contribution.
It is only God who gives life. Only He creates and permits an egg and sperm to result in a live birth. Yet His laws requires a man and woman to come together in order to have a child, whether or not they pray and believe in Him.
There is a time to plant and a time to harvest.
Faith without works is dead.
In the multitude of counsel there is safety/wisdom.
Wisdom is profitable to direct.
In His mercy He gives children to those who pray and those who don't.
That He has given you yours does not mean those waiting have not prayed. Thanks again and please ignore my question if you wish to answer a question I didn't ask.

I've discovered Nigeria doctors are very greedy and lie alot at least my own was,a great big liar, knew I had only one follicle still went ahead with egg retrieval, told me there's no treatment for bad sperm motility, made me make my husband go through tesa surgery,ha it's a long and painful story what that doctor did to me,and it's my God that will judge him for me,my biggest regret was not going to the hospital my sister in law did hers, all because of stories I heard that this doctor tries,I didn't know all that was hearsay,do you know he doesn't even have IVF equipment in his hospital bit his collecting money for ivf, took us all the way from warri to benin to do egg retrieval and implantation, all those money for transport and fuel and accomodation and he didn't even tell me all this before I paid the money for the IVF to him,fee day back I sat down with some of the receipts I could find and calculated a total of 2 million ,six hundred thousand ,all for nothing, just heavy pain and heavy bleeding,ha stubborness is not good if only I had listen to my husband and went to the hospital his sister in law used by Gods grace I would have been pregnant by now
What clinic did your SIL use? Which did you use?

Good morning
I was at the center yesterday and the man told us about IUI,that what he will do is sperm retrievals and he placed us on some drugs to boost his sperm and my eggs too. What we have now cannot be enough for ivf so we want to give the IUI a try,we have done it before at Bolasad specialist hospital at Agege but it failed .
You need less sperm for IVF than for IUI. With IVF even 1 sperm can be used.
TravelRe: Cost Of A Nigeria International Passport by Damilolly(f):
Dear all,

I'm here to give a summary of my experience at the Gwagalada office of the Nigerian Immigration service, to applaud them this group and hope it helps others.

I needed to renew my passport and change my surname to my married name.

I contacted the Nigerian Immigration Service Twitter handle via the number on their Tweet and which they announced on Brekete family radio show on Youtube. I explained that my passport is expired, I will be in Nigeria for a period of 2weeks and will like to change my name and renew my passport.

He confirmed that I can travel in with my expired passport. I asked for a copy of the official communique which he kindly provided.
He said however, that he could not guarantee it will be ready within 2 weeks as the change of name will be approved at the head office but that the head at Gwagalada was a professional man who is passionate about making the system work. I think he's CSO, Comptroller, CO or so.

I contacted a newspaper to announce my change of name, did my e-affidavit and made my application online.
I showed my expired passport upon entry at the airport in Abuja and told the immigration officers that I'd applied for my passport DIY and needed my passport to be renewed in time. He called an officer at the Gwagalada officer and told him I was renewing my passport at his office and gave me his number.

I arrived at the Gwagalada office 2 days after the capture date after I had updated my NIN. I called the officer but as I went to see him I remembered that the PRO had given me the CO's number who I had spoken to months prior. I rang him and he said I should come to his office.

I went in, they checked my docs, I captured and he said my application was being taken tot he head office with others. I got my passport within a week later. I didn't pay anything to anyone to do anything and no one asked me for anything.

I'd read about him in the thread in the past. Truly, the man is a professional officer to the core, he's Christian and Igbo. I pray people like him will have more responsibility in Nigeria so things can get better.

I think the PRO officer is now the head at the head office. Also an absolute professional even helpful when I was trying to renew my passport in the UK.

Many thanks to everyone who keeps this page helpful and going.

Thank you for your reply.
For those who live outside the country it will be difficult to check monthly.
Although I don't need it in a rush as I can travel with my other passport but would've liked to be able to take it with me.
Is the appointment date estimate correct? Abuja seems to have no waiting time for capture.

ekitimanalways:
Good morning, ma'am. You're correct to say that the portal does not upload accurately. This makes the passport tracker unreliable.
Do-it-yourself (DIY) Nigerian passport applicants rarely get their passports on the collection dates written on their confirmation slips. Therefore, I would advise you to keep going back to the passport office where you had your enrolment (usually about once a month) after the date of collection given to you.

How will one know when to go for collection if doing DIY, when the portal doesn't upload accurately?

ekitimanalways:
He has deceived you. Those agents are heartless. I hope and pray that the agent would not let you go through 'hell' before you get your passport.
I always advocate DIY. Yes, ...do-it-yourself is cheaper.

I have a similar question too.
Which option should one choose for the most effective passport renewal payment method?
I prefer to pay online and print the receipt please. Is this a good idea or it should be paid at the bank?

2. SaanaPay Card Payment Cash at Bank
3. Paystack Card
4. TeasyPay Teasy E-Wallet or

1, What is and where can I get the correct and official requirements for renewal of passport with change of name as a result of marriage (woman)?
2, I wish to renew in Abuja and it seems there're three locations. Which is best for DIY please?
3, How long did it take you to get yours if you changed your name (marriage), where did you renew and was it DIY?

Thank you.

OP, when he was beating you, you should have just taken the beaten and hoped for the best.

At least he didn't kill you. If he'd killed you and then is sentenced to prison for life the children would've been left to be orphans.

You've made that difficult now cos he knows you'll call the police if he turns violent again so his plan is scuttled. So what is he to do??

You've chosen you and your children's safety and maintaining law and order in the society over allowing him test how good a punching bag you are. Maybe disconnect the phone and ask him to re-do the exercise.

Came here from your latest thread.
I see you are disposed to crime. My words of caution were directed to your daughter's protection but I see you are already involved in it. You're in a country where the rule of law reigns and there is effective government however imperfect, the institutions are there. Be careful. Turn aside from crime and every illegality while you have the opportunity. Don't tempt your wife to be in a position to put forward a case against you if you deceive her to go to Nigerian and then destroy her passport. Cut your coat according to your seize. Live within your means. Perhaps you're doing 419, please stop. It hurts people, destroys families and kills many. The American teenager who died recently was because of 3 yahoo Nigerians. He was from a true Christian home. His family is praying for those who do these sort of horrendous acts to choose righteousness.

You also listen to Pastor Jerry but has it changed your character? No, cos that's not what the ministry is about.
twang414:
Again, i wont be able to quote each post that i would like to respond to, so I will summarize again and point out somethings and other things that those who have japad already and those that are planning to should know.

1: I have done DNA on my son only 5 years ago, because he was the only one my mind doubted, result showed I was, I havent done for my daughter yet cos am most definite shes mine from the onset, but one can never say, I would have to do for her when we come to nija somtimes.
2: I understand that tracking her is against the law here, she knows and she might use it against me in the future. As we speak now, so many things have happened since my arrival in this country, we have had arguments, I am not perfect, as I have mine to deal with as well. Since we got in here,
being a student, she cant work more than 20hours a week, and because I am a tech person, I seek tech work remotely, but havent been able to get one, though I still make money from my e-commerce biz, so i have to change naira to pounds over the last 6 months now and its draining. Reason why am looking for a tech remote job is because of the children, when she goes to work or school, I have to be the one to care for the kids and pick up from school, mind yall
she does majority of the home chores when shes home, she does alot, that I cant deny, but I support when I can, wash dishes and sweep, I am always on the computer working, I SLEEP late aroud 2am, awake up 8 or 9, life here is somehow, but somehow will pay off one day
3: She recorded some of out argument and was telling her sister one day while we were having issues, that for example that kind of audi evidence, if she presents it in court, bla bla bla,omo na then I know sey one chance dun enter me. Let me gist u guys a little about what happened, she had stepped out to the library and I was home, she called but I was on a very important call, so as she was calling I was cutting it and automatically sending sms
to let her know that I was on a call that she should check her whats app in response to what she inquired, but maybe she didnt see it and she kept calling back, so i had to pick and somehow I yelled and said plz check ur whats app, she seem to have taken the yell personal, to be sincere I wasnt happy with her because she has not been giving me food, she will package the kids food, dash out and leave me hanging, normally I would have communicated it with her
but I know the reasomn behind it. I lost the license to the platform I used to make money from Nigeria which is used to sort the bills and the rent, so this month rent i was able only able to pull up 60% while we had to take loan to balance it up. So what caused the main ish was when she came back from the library, she had finished praying, after she came out and pounced on me with harsh words, saying my life is nt proper, that I should check out myself, simply because
I am battling financial issue just within the last 2weeks,but something is for sure, we have never gone hungry, and never shall we.
4: In this country, the wife's sending their husband packing, most are already regretting it, its not easy to be working and caring for the kids as well, the govt have cut down on the monies giving to them after split, the ones that can get awy with it are the ones without children, forget that story of men should be scared that
their woman will be snatched, well its possible if you are not well to do at all, and not providing, but u see ehn, women too much for this country wey be sey na wives sef dey fear make other women nor snatch their husband. Loneliness here alone can kill without blinking, so in major cases now, women here, talking about Nigerians dont want to lose their
husbands unless in a very critical situation as such as financial crisis or chronic womanising.
5: To be sincere, in as much as I am doing legit job, i sometimes do side racket which may be termed illegal, but u know its just to be able to live up to expectations and be able to solve some problems normal
legit earnings wont be able to do. Back then in Nigeria, some of these funds supported her business, bought her a car and all of those ease stress lifestyle, while we were having an argument here, I called her an olosho, she said
me am a fraudster, that she will report me to EFCC, that do i think she doesnt know what i do aside my main biz? I come sey but u dey also enjy from the proceeds of the illgotten money, she said well she didnt know sey na when
we reach here na him she know sey i dey do side runs
, omo i waste, i mean i weak finish. She come sey well she package me come this place, cos she know sey me dun tire for the marriage since we left nija....sey where i escort am reach like this sey he dey ok, sey at least i carry her come uk, sey the time when i decide not to come again, sey her soul left her body that she had to try to convince me to continue the process., Omo am finished like this, to be continued....
FamilyRe: Please I Need Advise To Relocate My Family Frim UK Back To Nija by Damilolly(f): 1:36am On Jun 27, 2023
Many posters have given sensible replies of which this is one.

I just want to reiterate to the OP that Pastor Jerry celebrates Hilda the cook for her fame, position and wealth; till today he's not had anything to say about her way of life. If your wife does similar, shakes her bum almost naked, wears just netting etc but hits the jackpot she'll be celebrated by people like him and testify of financial blessings. He was recently called out for giving a very rara actress a huge amount of money for her birthday. Men like him preach "prosperity" not the "gospel" that Jesus came to share. Yes, he might utter one or two sentences about holiness once in a blue moon but 99% of the program is about how much you can get if you fully submit to him/his ministry. So hopefully you'll also give him some money while doing all you can to get more via your professions even if it's dressing skimpy selling lust.

Perhaps it's time as the spiritual head of your home to decipher what it means to follow Jesus and then begin to institute it in your home. Read the Bible yourself in your home as a family daily so you see directly what God says, not outsourced to men who plucked verses out from all over the place to make a selfish point totally out of context and for their own benefit. Thankfully you already have a child who can align with you as you direct your family but hurry before she becomes a teenager.

Ps: please do not lie or do anything illegal, immoral or unethical.
If you succeed in deceiving your wife, falsely imprisoning her, destroying her passport etc how does that build your home and relationship with not only your wife but your creator and what does it teach your child? If your child intends to remain in the West you need to be intentional about the values you teach her. If the examples set are that it's ok to break the law to have one's way it will be hard for her to resist temptation when she is faced with it. She might be a doctor, lawyer, teacher, IT professional etc but she's tempted to take some meds, breach confidentiality, etc and that can ruin one's career in a land where the law is mainly followed to the letter.

You're the man of your home, lead in love as the head, serve them, help some more with the house work.
Your wife is earning more and doing most of the house work. I assure you she hasn't picked up UK attitudes. She won't be doing that if it was the case. I pray you do the right thing for your home.

Acidosis:
Btw, listening to pastor Jerry or any other new generational pastor changes nothing. They follow these programmes for the prayers and blessings they hope to get. The day pastor Jerry decides to dum.p prayer rain and requests for holiness and end time message, people like your wife will dump him. Listening to pastor Jerry is, in fact, one of the main reasons she'll continue to dress seductively. Pastor Jerry is not Pastor Kumuyi.

You should find a way to remind your wife her old time values (if she had any during her time in Naija). Environmental influences are so powerful and we can't emphasise this fact enough. The values in your new host country will most likely shape your behaviour and attitude. Today na seductive dressing, tomorrow she fit change gender or get herself a female partner.

Na you get work to do at this point o...so keep trying to talk sense into her.
