u will enjoy it bro..trust me, u dont need to knw about the ills of the country, i was told same stuff too, but its a different scenario here..weather now is -6 and still going down there are nigerians here, many of them especially in oulu, helsinki, turku..the number of Nigerians here decreases as you go north (colder regions) and yea every house has a heater...thankGod Nigeria weather is warm...NEPA for they mess us up, they cant afford to have light out here. With wat I have experienced in the southern Nigeria....I have dis conclusion: 1. Igbos are tribalistic ....I used to be free minded towards every tribes...cos I have Igbo and Hausa friends, but since I came to the south, av changed my mindset and views about The so called "one Nigeria"....igbos are paranoid about Yoruba, I think its a long suffering disease...they claimed we are dominant in the oil sector...dis and dat, shior ..its a pity, FYI if u nid a remainder LAGOS IS A YORUBA LAND

People I know in Finland want to find there way out. Though in Finland, you gonna have smooth academic runs but if you are seeking for greener pasture after your education, it may not be the best option.

First of all, You are admitted for what you really want in the USA. Nowadays USA worth coming and it will be much more profitable whenever the immigration reform law is approved by the senate. After the approval, student VISA may be a little bit stricter.

Ask your Graduate Coordinator or your friends in that school ((if any)) how easy it is to get a Graduate Assistantship after first semester. If it's easy, I will advise you come to USA, pay for first semester and fight for assistantship for your remaining semesters. If you can do well in first semesters (4.0), with God on your side and mounting pressure on your Graduate Coordinator, they must get you an Assistantship. Also, as you step in to the US, you will start applying to other schools as a fresh in-take or transfer. Assistantship is easy to search when you are around here than from Nigeria.
Your first semester fee may not be more than $6k. Most Schools here don't collect tuition immediately. There policy is that you can't register for the coming semester if you have not offset your previous semester bill. So, you have time to search for the money. If you have GOOD family/friends here who are permanent resident, they can consign a loan for you to offset first semester.

Think about this.

If eventually you are going to Finland, you can consider US for your P.hD (if at all you want to study reach that height)

bigfrancis21: You're in a deep quagmire.
First do you have the financial resources to sponsor yourself for your desired course at MSUT? Or do you have a sponsor? If you don't, going there now won't make much of a sense. Studying in the US as an intl student with no scholarship/aid(partial or full) from the university whatsoever calls for real suffering. If the school offers assistantships (GAs) and scholarships and you have the option of getting one the next semester, then you might consider going there. You'll now have to bother about raising some money to pay your first semester fees and other expenses. Or better still, accept the admission and defer to next year while you run around and get the money you need. I'm an avid supporter of one pursuing one's dream course. There's nothing like doing a course you have the passion for and excelling in it. Quite exhilarating I tell you.

If the above option isn't viable for you, then you might have to go to Finland where you have scholarship and study. They say half bread is better than none.

These two options are what I'll consider if I were you.

House I nid you guyz advice...April dis year I was given a scholarship to study environmental engring at university of Oulu, Finland (10,500euros/yr) ....and just dis month I was accepted by Missouri uni of sci Nd tech to study my prefered geology and geophysics come fall...no assistantship or wateva...I don't even have 1million in my acct. And have already started my residence permit processing with Finland embassy which takes two month.....note: am a civil servant and I can get a sponsor acct but no money when I get to the states....pls advice
