Congrats bro, good move.

Things to know:

-The 2000 or so Euros is brutto(gross), just remove about 33% of that as taxes to calculate what you actually receive in your account (netto) when salary gets paid

- Prepare to learn German if you want to really enjoy your stay. At least you can tell that the Qataris are more comfortable with you if you speak Arabic. It's the same everywhere, you are immediately comfortable around any foreigner that can speak your language or dialect. Prepare to learn German even if you don't need it to work.

- Depending on where in Germany you eventually end up, you'll quickly realize that rent is probably going to be your major monthly expense.

- If you are already on a health insurance plan in Qatar, you can use that. If the health insurance is from Nigeria, you can go to any AXA Mansard close to you and buy Schengen health insurance plan. I'll suggest you do for 6 months so as not to get stuck

- The weather is really good grin Unlike the hellfire heat you are probably used to in Qatar

All the best bro !!

Good morning Good people here,

For anyone here who had to certify documents at Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, kindly share your experience. Also share any reliable contact there that could be of assistance to reduce having to travel to Abuja from Lagos almost every week .

Thank you and God bless you as you share. If you have any reservation about openly posting the person's details , you can send me a mail instead.

It really would have been ideal to get your wife's passport changed to reflect her marital status BEFORE applying for the family reunion appointment but that process alone should take another 2 months or so. Moreover, you would need to cancel the old appointment and reapply using her new passport details when that is ready.

I would suggest you begin the process of getting her the new passport to avoid complications that could arise much later because of this. I learnt the hard way myself when my wife and I were trying to secure visit visas to Germany on her old passport and she got denied after all the money and effort put in.

bamdexfarms:
Hello people, I am a student residing in Bonn, Germany since October 2018. I went back home last year August to tie the knot with my fiancee, now my wife. She has applied for family reunion visa however I read somewhere that my duration of residence in Germany will be considered and that I must have spent 2 years here before she can apply for family reunion. Also, she applied for appointment using a passport carrying her maiden name. Can she change the passport to include my surname? And probably go with both on the date of interview? She applied in September and we are yet to get interview date. Thanks.

Hi Zamani234,

As at May 2019, the expected appointment window was still 6 months.

A way to find out the current situation with reference to appointments for any class of visa is to go to the appointment booking page on nigeria.diplo.de and check under the particular visa type and read the preamble written there. It is always stated there, the month you registered and the expected appointment month/year. Moreover, you will receive an email at least 2 or 3 months before your appointment stating your appointment date and all( remember to print that mail O, very important).

zamani234:
Please anybody know which month they are now for work visa Appointment??

Happy New Year 2020 !!

Question for "crossed over" work permit holders. How did you prove German language proficiency during your appointment for Residence/Work permit at the Aliens office?

Do I have to write A1 exam and pass before getting the work permit? Kindly shed some light on this please.

Humanity !!

The pride of a man eventually becomes his downfall. I just spent almost an hour of my time reading through the entire post and I must say a BIG THANK YOU to the Op for being who he is...afterall I would not have gained so much free insight and understanding in this matter if he was not too proud to shut up and sell his car in peace.

It could be the phone he wants to use to snap the pictures is still being priced on Black Friday sales. I don't know you Ibukunobi but from the little I have read, I get the feeling you are someone who needs to do a lot of work on anger management...burning money on anger in this Buhari economy cannot be the way to go AT ALL ... still waiting to see the outcome O

I will like to run a scenario by you all experienced folks, please read carefully and advise as best as you can

Resumption date on Contract is Oct 1st but Interview date is late November. FEA approval received. Job requires security clearance that would take 8 weeks to process AFTER the work permit visa has been obtained from Lagos.

Should I ask for a note from my employer reflecting this information before attending the interview? How is the visa dated ? The company is not willing to accommodate me for 8 weeks so the plan is to remain in Nigeria till the clearance is obtained then proceed to Germany to begin work.

Kindly advise please. Thank you.

KizitoEgz:

For your resumption date, don't worry, when you get an interview date you and your employer will decide on a date. Ensure that this date gives ample space to allow for your visa processing, else you will be required to bring a confirmation letter from your employer stating that they are ok with you resuming at a later date other than your resumption date. All this back and forth will delay your visa. For example, let's say your visa interview is on the 28th of this month, and your resumption date is on the 1st of Nov, by the 10th day after your interview, they will email to ask you to bring that confirmation. So I will advise you give 21 to 30 days after your interview as your resumption date.
Another thing, you might also be eager to buy a travel health insurance before hand, which is good. However, make sure it starts on the date of your intended departure and should span 3 months (99 days to be safe). If yours start before your intended date of travel and covers for less than 3 months, you might be asked to submit another around the 10th day after your interview - another delay.
About your intended date of departure, to be safe, it should be at least 21 days after your interview. I say this because you might be asked to submit a written letter stating your date of departure. Your date of departure must be at least 10 days after the date that you submit the written letter and whatever document they also asked for. Usually this request for additional docs, travel health insurance etc comes around the 10th or 11th day after your interview. Assuming you even submit the docs that day, and have to give 10 days space, you can see that it now amounts to minimum of 21 days after your interview. So space your dates wisely to avoid unnecessary back and forth.
If you have all these sorted out beforehand, you can be rest assured to get your visa within 14 days. Some interviewers may be gracious enough to ask if you want to submit your passport / travel health insurance etc on the that same interview date. If you don't need your passport outside there, please submit it ooo!!! Passport is too precious to be mailing up and down by courier - travel health insurance, written letter etc can easily be replaced, but if the courier service loses your passport...hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Thanks LagosNIV, I have gone and returned back to Nigeria as planned without any hitches.

I however need some clarification to avoid making costly mistakes.I got married in February 2017 and my wife's Nigerian passport with her maiden name expires in 2020. My visa expires in April 2018 and my passport expires in February 2019. I want to renew my visa and make a fresh application for her so that we both can attend a family function slated for 2018 Labor Day weekend in July.

My questions are:

- Can I apply for my wife on her current passport with her maiden name or do I have to obtain a new passport for her bearing my surname?

-Can I reapply with a passport that expires in February 2019 or do I also have to obtain anot her one? Moreover as my circumstances have changed due marriage.

I await your response so I can know the next step to take. Thank you.

LagosNIV:
Hello Damolaskynov -

The validity period of a visa determines the period during which the visa holder can go to a US port of entry and request admission. CBP officers at the port of entry determine how long the individual is permitted to stay in the US. If you arrive in March with a visa that expires in April, your visa will be valid.

Happy Sunday people,

I want to enquire from enlightened people in this thread. Would you advise 1 year Treasury bills purchase at the present rate or FGN Bonds at the prevailing primary market rate for a 2 million Naira investment? And also please give your reasons for your direction.

Thank you so much, I await responses.

Look for a nice and decent bakery close to you, buy hot bread both sliced and unsliced at bakery price and resell at the normal retail rate. You will be amazed at how people eat bread, you can also buy small butter at home and eat too. Save your profit and expand.

Hello Lagos/Abuja NIV

Happy Val day wishes. I need a little clarification. My B1/B2 visa expires in April and I intend to make a 1 week return trip in March. I had previously entered and exited the United States over a year ago without issues.

Kindly confirm if it's OK to do so. I was stamped in for 6 months on my initial visit and that had expired a long time ago

Sir,one word.DON'T.Please don't attempt it now, there is no SECURITY in the country presently. You could get robbed of everything you've worked and toiled for and even maimed or killed, and nothing would happen. The perversion you are trying to avoid already seats comfortably in the psyche of the Nigerian populace, how else can you explain the daily occurrence of child rape/molestation by people who are supposed to be guardians /role models for those kids? God will continue to guide and protect your family and you as He always had, please don't tempt Him any further...

Banks don't take any document, they just need to see your return ticket, and of course you need to be a customer of the bank you requesting from.
That's all.

Travel / Re: USA Visit Visa Part 2 by Damolaskynov: 1:06pm On Apr 28, 2016
Hi house, been a silent reader/observer for awhile here.I'll like to share my testimony to encourage someone out there that this whole US visit visa thing isn't rocket science or something so tough/rough but about God's Grace and being completely HONEST. I had my appointment on April 5th in Lagos and was successful,2 years multiple issued.
Everything seemed stacked against me. I'm single, only travelled to Dubai in January,my Citizen Sister had already filed for Immigrant status for me,bank account balance wasn't too presentable etc but one thing I learnt from reading other posts here is BE HONEST when filling the DS-160 form and fill it yourself if you can.
I also noticed at the interview stage that it seems some profiler(s) had already worked on the information provided on the form and all the VO did was enter their own observation within the 3/4 minutes you are at the window. All the docs I packed with me to the interview were completely unnecessary. Also, pls don't forget your Stanley GT bank receipt at home O...I forgot mine and had to cough out some N3000 that morning to get a reprint at the Carpark before going in.
I'll try to post my experiences during and after my 1 month trip here to encourage someone that everything is possible when the time is right. Also, everybody's case is unique as 1 family being interviewed that morning made me understand.Only the wife and their infant baby was granted, the husband and two daughters were given blue or green slips,it wasn't too clear as I was watching it all unfold in the queue. Someone in front of me got denied because he wanted to go all the way to the U.S to buy 2 color printers worth 250 USD each for his printing business!! The VO was totally professional as me sef wey dey him back no fit hold back my laugh.Everybody's case is unique, really
