Education › Re: Medical School: The Journey by Damson22: 11:33pm On Apr 17, 2020 |
OlumhideGold: So, this thread is for anybody that would simply like to know what's up in the medical school I study in the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Here, Medicine is a 6 years course in which the first year is a compulsory year for basic sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology)in Ago Iwoye. It is however compulsory for you to scale above the minimum score which is 50% per course or else, the the person would be 'dropped' to another course which they feel seems lesser to Medicine. But no need to fear, scoring above 50 is not so hard for the basic science courses The students who pass therefore move to Sagamu, which is the real deal. Sagamu houses the Obafemi Awolowo College of Health Sciences(Our Medical College) and Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital. This Sagamu is known as the home of reading, Yunno, Medical students and hyperstuffs. The Medical College doesn't run a similar calender to the normal school calender After your resumption in 200L, you'll spend 18 months learning about three courses (Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry) which I would talk about later, After this 18months, you'll be required to face the ALMIGHTY MB exam which you must pass (50%) in other to move to the next level. I'm tired rn, I'll update you guys later, let me know what you feel about this thread in the comments You mean OOU and OAU mbbs students are in sagamu? |

CoronaVirusPro: If it's real Corona virus and not the malaria they treating in Naija, they better leave them there.
UK health system is top notch. If they take that flight, then they should be ready to face what comes after.
Nigerian doctors will only prescribe the usual, Antibiotics, pain reliever and blood tonic.
That's the cure for all ailments in Nigeria. Even HIV/AIDS.
Please don't quote me, I am not feeling fine. That's what we are saying, Am sure if you are one of the politics out there, any slight headache like this, you will move out of the country, leaving our health sector and you will be blaming Nigeria doctors, pls let be guided oo |

MrEgghead: Many people prefer federal universities because of their school fees, taste and presumed prestige.
You can easily get MBBS in other federal universities than UI. UNICAL and UNIPORT for example.
I'm a medical student. Thank boss |

Yohh: There's no difference at all except for a slight consideration for undergraduate scholarship which favors federal schools sometimes, not even postgraduate. But truth is government medical schools produce brighter doctors when compared to the private or foreign universities. Another truth, once u graduate, u all are doctors, no more difference once u sure u can defend ur certificate. Thank you sir. But what about employment into federal teaching hospital(for those that went to state University) like UCH |

Zeeknow3245: The topic is hot oo. For me there is no really a difference only that the equipment used in federal are more than the states and they have more experienced lecturers. To be frank also people go to state schools because federal schools are quite competitive compared to state. The truth is whether you go to state or federal, u are still addressed as a doctor. There is nobody called Dr. Abia / Dr. Unilag. The only advantage is when it comes to referrences as a consultant. They will want to refer people to u when u go to top schools, this is not completely true because they have people who went to state colleges but excel greatly. The only thing is to get more experience, certificates and join more renowned groups. Pls sir, are you a doctor sir. Can you shed more light on reference as a consultant sir |
Education › Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by Damson22: 11:26am On Apr 04, 2020 |
MrEgghead: There's nothing like that. MBBS has same status in all that schools have full accreditation. But why is everyone rushing to federal university despite the fact that their jamb score can fetch them the same course in state University. For example me, I have tried UI 3 times now, beside are you a doctor sir |
