me during Independence Day bombing’ – Jonathan.
e. World Bank Report: Nigeria is among the 5 poorest nations

a propaganda’. Took the President three weeks to believe the
abduction happened.
P.S.
What Nigerians need is GOOD GOVERNANCE which entails
social security, adequate infrastructure, job creation, food
availability, affordable healthcare, socio-political harmony
etc. What has ethnicity or faith got to do with it? All that
matters is the competence to do the job and nothing more. If
you have a private business, will you hire an incompetent
salesman from your hometown or of same faith and run the
risk of going bankrupt?
Please vote wisely come February 2015. We need a change.
Nigeria cannot continue like this.
Long live Nigeria.

Politics / Re: 2015 Presidential Elections :: The Dilemma Of The Average Nigerian by daniel2090: 6:38am On Jan 12, 2015
BraveAfrican:
The upcoming presidential elections on February 14, 2015 will go down in history as the most agitating/competitive tussle for power at the centre in the anals of our democracy. The competition has been so fierce that the divide in the political atmosphere of the country is evident not only between the two major contestants (GEJ&GMB), their parties (PDP&APC) but also down to their loyalists who span every sector of the Nigerian economy including the Nigerian youths (mostly students, fresh graduates & few working class).

The die is cast and both sides are tearing down at each other fighting tooth and nail to warm their way into the hearts of the electorates; all this is the norm in any healthy and fair democracy. The burden falls to us (electorates) to ignore all the hustle and bustle of their campaigns, manifestoes and propagandas to carefully in our private closets decipher what is truly BEST for us based on the personalities of the aspirants, their track records and history. My inspiration to write this comes from the percieved misconception of my contemporaries (Nigerian youths) about the aspirants...we have allowed the distractions of all the propagandas and campaign psychics sweep us off our tracks. Like every Nigerian youth, I desperately crave for a change in all sectors of the Nigerian economy. I feel troubled and uncertain about what the future holds when I look at the situation of things around the country. This singular reason was why I somewhat saw a glimpse of hope when the APC merger emerged with the belief that a major contender to the autonomy of the PDP at the central would shake things up a bit and set us on the right path. The APC in all sense of it has looked very bright and promising..."most" of their states seem to experience some form of transformation but there has been a major derail in the trend of all this since the inception of all this "decamping" by various politicians from other political parties. This has made me to realise that if truly our democracy is to move forward as a nation, we must look beyond "party politics" and focus on the aspirants of the various offices.

All this been said, the APC in my humble opinion made a terrible mistake in their candidate of choice for the forthcoming presidential elections. The APC has based its campaign on change because they know its what all Nigerians crave...we are a lot wiser now than ever before. Like everyone else, I desperately crave a change but if we are to truly go for a change, let's be sure of what we are dabbling into. Is the APC trying to tell me they have to recycle a ex-military leader who ruled over three (3) decades ago ? Don't we have better options and brains to lead us into the future. We the youths have to realise we are in the 21st century. A lot of things have evolved. Its evident in the performance of some young politicians....most of the best performing state governors are from a younger generation. GEJ's campaign speech in Lagos might be wrong in every sense to anyone who likes but he got one thing right --- "Our fathers have failed us".

We all desire a change but it should be a positive change and not just recycling old junks...APC may be that platform to offer change but in my own humble opinion, GMB is not what we really need at this point in time. The APC has in the desperate quest to seize the central power from the PDP mortgaged its presidential candidacy to the wrong man. I want not just any change, I want a POSITIVE CHANGE...a positive change has nothing to do with a change of party either PDP/APC/APGA/etc...its in the individual/person in question. APC offers a change in the party dominance of the PDP at the helm of affairs but they served the wrong menu (GMB) to the electorates. Its disheartening to see that in desperation for a change that we all seek, the Nigerian youths are prepared to go down any lane regardless of its consequences just to break off the status quo...this should not be. I greatly fault GEJ for focusing more on setting policies and structures that would benefit our nation in the long run and not tackling many other very urgent needs but in all sincerity my folks, no one can do it all.

The magnitude of change we seek is gradual but steady pace is needed towards it. Voting in GMB will truly offer a change but the question is: "a change from what?"...is it just a change of party from PDP to APC that we desire? Is it just a change of Presidents from GEJ to GMB? In our uttermost hearts my friends, the CHANGE we truly desire is MUCH MORE than that...let's not get carried away. GMB is a form of change but like it or not, its a visit to our past; we are just going on a tour in history. GEJ too is not in any form of it perfect but GMB is a couple of decades late to the party. Let APC/APGA/PDP/SDP/LP/etc offer us a vibrant, intelligent, upright and efficient aspirant in the future and that change we truly crave would have arrived. In conclusion, voting in GMB means our fate is virtually sealed for the next eight( 8 ) years because of his second term while voting GEJ is a four(4) year gamble since he is on his last ticket.

In my opinion, I would rather stick with the status quo for four(4) years than seal my fate to the unknown for eight( 8 ) years. Our PERFECT CHANGE will come but fellow Nigerian youths, its not here yet...God bless Nigeria.

NB:: This post is original to "BraveAfrican"

a well constructed write up I must say..but pls permit me to say that u made ur choice and decision based on some not very acceptable things..i initially tot ur final decision will be based of "the personality, track records and history of the individauls involved., I was wrong. I noticed some element of doyin okupe's mentality in ur write up..cos thats one of the reason that pivot ur final decision sir; "buhari is old"yea he is old.his muscles are aging. .the vigor of the youth may not be there, the strenght of the youth may not be there..well Goodluck even suddenlyturned a neurologist making a diagnosis of dementia (phone number issue), u may even say he has not been actively involved in politics for a while.while I ws thinking about these things..the case of a man came to my mind..a man who was incacerated for 27yrs away from the pplitics of his dear country...yet came out out of prison, ascend to presidency at 70+ despite ur type of critism and became a game changer in his country today.he was an hero of positive change for that nation.even nigeria will not find it easy competing with thats country's economy.the person of nelson mandella.sames for ronald reagan of the USA.ronald was even in the military. so ur reasons arebnot too good.if u want sometin good for nigeria now..vote based on personality, , track record, history and past/previous effects of the individuals involed on nigerians economy.the future starts now.

All that matters is the competence to do the job and nothing more. If you have a private business, will you hire an incompetent salesman from your hometown or of same faith and run the risk of going bankrupt?
Please vote wisely come February 2015. We need a change. Nigeria cannot continue like this.
Long live Nigeria.

#GoodGovernanceInitiative

Vanpascore:

Before being MILITARY Head of State, Buhari had been Governor of one of the Northern States (under Obasanjo’s Military government) as well as Minister for Petroleum. He later served as Chairman of PTF under Abacha. Please consider the following unassailable facts: -

He birthed and supervised the establishment of our existing refineries. - There was no religious crisis while he was Head of State. It started under his successor IBB! -

In his time as Head of State he reduced inflation from 23% to 4%, by fiscal discipline and a homegrown economic team (not achieved under any other era, even military).

JJ Rawlings of Ghana took over 2 years before him, and killed all the corrupt leaders, while Buhari only sentenced the corrupt leaders here to prison.

Under his watch as PTF Chairman, what he did in road construction in that short period hasn't been matched by 12 years of the PDP. - Hospitals and universities around the country never witnessed as much benefits as they got from the PTF from any government after or before his time.

Despite serving in senior capacity in the oil sector, first as Minister for Petroleum and then Petroleum Trust Fund, Buhari has no petrol station, much less a rig, refinery or an oil block like so many of our leaders.

He could have retired into nauseating opulence like an IBB or Danjuma or even OBJ but didn't.

Instead of hobnobbing with the high and mighty, he has cast his lot with the ordinary man most of who follow him out of hope and belief in his values.People who know him have said of him... "All I need from Buhari is his word, I can take it to the bank".

He is the only politician in the North today who fills rallies without renting a crowd. The Kaduna rally of 2nd March is eloquent proof.

He refused to collect an allowance while serving as Chairman of the PTF because he said since he was already drawing a pension from government, his conscience would not allow him to draw another salary from the purse of the same government.

He is the only former head of state that does not own property or land in Abuja.

Every attempt to rubbish him through probes in time past ended up vindicating him! The man who was asked by OBJ to take over the running of PTF before it was scrapped with the aim of probing and indicting Buhari, was the one who ended up being prosecuted for misappropriating $100m of PTF funds! Buhari again, was vindicated

He has OPENLY challenged those who accuse him of religious fundamentalism to come out and show proof. No one has till today, taken up the challenge. His personal driver of many years is a Christian from Plateau State.

His government initiated the War Against Indiscipline that has made environmental cleanliness, queuing up, not urinating by the roadside etc features of our national life even till today
to mention but a few o

Jonathan says MEND not responsible for Abuja attacks
NAN

print email

President Goodluck Jonathan has said that terrorists were responsible for the bomb blasts that rocked Abuja yesterday contrary to claims that the act was perpetrate by the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND).

Mr. Jonathan made the claim in his opening address at the colloquium, organised today in Abuja by the ECOWAS Parliament, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of some African countries.

``What happened yesterday was a terrorist act and MEND was just used as a straw; MEND is not a terrorist group," the President said.

``The Niger Delta people are aware of the government's noble efforts to assuage the suffering and deprivation in that region.

``I am from the Niger Delta, my father's house is few metres from an oil-well, so nobody can claimto be a Niger Deltan than myself."

MEND, yesterday, claimed responsibility for the attacks. A few minutes before the blasts, the group sent an email to journalists and media companies warning of the impending violence.

"With due respect to all invited guests, dignitaries and attendees of the 50th independence anniversary of Nigeria being held today, Friday, October 1, 2010 at the Eagle Square Abuja, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) is asking everyone to begin immediate evacuation of the entire area within the next 30 minutes. This warning expires after 10.30Hrs," MEND spokesperson Jomo Gbomo said in the mail.

However, Mr. Jonathan has said this was a diversionary tact by the real perpetrators of the crime. He argued that no Niger Delta group would carry out such an act as it would affect the region's chance for development.

``It is erroneous to think that my people who have been agitating for good living will deliberately blow up the opportunity they have now,'' Mr. Jonathan said.

He also said the country's security agencies will be restructured to become proactive to guarantee the safety of lives and property.

``I pray for the souls of those who died to attain peace and fervently pray for those who sustain injuries in the blast to be healed,'' he said.

Back
he that has eyes, let him see..he dat has ears let him hear that which ur clueless president is saying at present in contradiction to the above ..just in a bit to score a point on propaganda against an opposing wind of change
