An American Surgeon based in Lagos Nigeria has taken to her heels after killing a Nigeria Beauty Queen in a failed fat transfer surgery for buttocks and hips enlargement. The Face of Democracy Transformation 2013 Winner Onwuzuligbo Nneka Miriam has died on February 3rd after a 31days coma from December 30th when the surgical operation was proceeded.

She dragged the organisers to court for legal interventions until last year when the case was finally dismissed. The death of Queen Miriam may be disheartening, but also a lesson to other young ladies, who would not carry out critical research in a particular clinic before engaging them in such sensitive services.

The American citizen, Dr. Anu has had several professional scandals, ranging from poorly conducted surgeries to complications as a medical practitioner.

However, since the last failed surgery on Queen Nneka, she halted all activities on social media including her 43k followers Instagram handle @med_contour, where she was use to posting frequently. Research shows that she may be in hiding.

It is no news that gradually our railway system is coming up and people seem to embrace it. For people living in Abuja, they now find it easier boarding the train which is faster, cheaper and helps to get to their location on time.

AutoReportNG was having a chat with a resident and he said, since I tried boarding the train from Kubwa to Airport, I have not regretted it, now, I park my cars and board the train. It is even closer to my work since I work at the Airport, I just take a stroll into my office. Even the passengers from Nnamdi Azikwe have the same story to tell! Gone are those when you wait endlessly for a taxi and in most cases they either rob, scam or hike the price with the railway that is working all thanks to the Goodluck Jonathan Administration and which was completed by the President Buhari regime, Nigerians have a cause to smile, save and be proud of its nation again.

As good as all these may sound, we are sure that if the minister of transportation is reading this, he will be a happy man! We need to sit down and draw out some security means on our railway system. Some months back, the minister of transportation, Rt Hon. Rotimi Amaechi was quoted as saying that the reason why the Abuja-Kaduna trains cannot run faster than 90km/hr was because the ministry does not want locomotives killing cows. According to the minister, the other day they tried 100 and they killed how many cows, and they said ‘you people should replace the cows you killed.

Just today, a Twitter user reported that a train from Kaduna to Abuja stopped abruptly before Kubwa station because some naughty school children were playing on the rail track, the police have to get them arrested. This brings to lots of questions as to how safe is our railway system in Nigeria? At first, it was cows that were sleeping on the rail lines and now children were playing, what measures were taken into place to effect a safer railway to the users, drivers and to the nation as well? Imagine if this had happened in a crowded place like Lagos it would have been a disaster.

Gone are those when railway tracks were covered with gates and danger lights to warn drivers ahead of dangers, they are also fenced to guard against an unauthorized person from the track. The questions on our lips are, are there safety signs for passengers, children, and livestock? Has the federal government taken time to educate the herdsmen who take joy on grazing on railway tracks on the dangers of these trains and the havoc it can cause to their lives, livestock and also to the passengers? Have we educated our kids at school on the dangers of playing on train tracks? Do we have an emergency unit within the Nigerian Railway Corporation that can respond to emergencies in case of accidents or SOS?

While we live you to ponder on these, AutoReportNG did some research and we came across some safety tips for Pedestrians and drivers since the National Orientation decided not to do their job, we will do ours, please read below...

Railroad Safety Tips for Pedestrians

- Pedestrians, cyclists, and users of other wheeled mobility devices must obey railway crossing laws just as motorists. The only place you may cross is at an authorized and properly marked railway crossing preferably use the footbridge if it is in the vicinity.

- Most of the time when a child does get hit it’s because they weren’t paying enough attention.

- Children must be taught that trains can’t stop quickly. They need to adopt the steps of 'Stop, look, listen and think' when at a pedestrian level crossing.

- Children should always be supervised around public transport. Hold the hand of children up to five years old when crossing rail lines.

- Observe and obey all warning signs and signals.

- Never walk down a train track; it's illegal and it's dangerous. By the time a locomotive driver can see a trespasser or a vehicle on the tracks, it is too late.

- The tracks are the railway servitude in which the rails are.

- Railway tracks, overhead wires, yards, wagons and equipment are private property and trespassers are subject to arrest and fine.

- Railway tracks should not be used as a shortcut or a walking trail.

- Trains overhang the rails by a metre in both directions and loose straps hanging from rail cars may extend even further. If you are in the right-of-way next to the rails, you can be hit by the train. Keep a 5-metre safe distance from the rails.

- Do not cross the tracks immediately after a train passes. A second train might come on the other line and your view may be blocked by the first. Trains can come from either direction. Wait until you can see clearly around the first train in both directions.

- Look both ways when approaching the track(s) - Never try to beat an approaching train.

- If you're a pedestrian, avoid stepping onto the rail while crossing, as it can be slippery.

- When cycling, always cross the tracks at right angles to the rails.

- Wheelchairs, prams, and strollers should always cross the tracks at right angles to the rail so that the wheels don’t get trapped.

- Bikes, rollerblades, skates or skateboards must be walked or carried on station platforms, on the ramps leading up to platforms, through pedestrian mazes, while crossing rail lines, in overpasses or underpasses

- Best advice - Look in both directions - Listen carefully for a train coming - Stop if necessary -If there’s no train, cross straight to the other side of the track.

- The train drivers always get stressed when people are not paying attention to oncoming trains. Communicate with the driver that you are aware of the train with a thumbs up sign and wave him a goodbye when he passes you safely, it will make your day.

- If a train is coming, wait for it to pass, and then stop, look, listen and think again before crossing. - Another train may be coming.

- Never jump fences, gates or barriers at crossings.

- Never force barriers open except in case of an emergency.

- Be careful with carbon fibre fishing rods near electrified lines. Always carry the rods horizontally.

- Do not climb on the electrification structures or over the sides of footbridges. Always keep a distance of 3 meters away from the electrical wires.

- Don’t hunt, fish or bungee jump from railroad bridges and sidewalks. There is only enough clearance on the tracks for a train to pass

- Do not attempt to hop aboard railroad wagons, locomotives or equipment at any time. A slip of the foot can cost you a limb or your life.

- Do not walk, run, cycle or operate all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) on railroad tracks or rights-of-way or through tunnels.

Railroad Safety Tips for Drivers

- Be alert near railroad crossings and stop for approaching trains. If the lights are flashing or the gate is down, wait for the train to pass before crossing. It is never okay to rush across and try to beat the train. Trains may be closer and faster than you think.

- Allow enough space for your vehicle to completely clear the entire railroad crossing, not just the tracks, before you attempt to cross. Remember, trains are at least three feet wider than the tracks on either side, so even though you clear the tracks, you may still get hit by the train.

- After a train passes the crossing completely, wait for the gate to come back up and the lights to stop flashing. Then look both ways again before you cross to be sure a second train is not coming in either direction. A second train may be hidden behind the first one.

An Islamic cleric, Dr. Agaka, who spoke during his weekly Islamic radio programme in Ilorin disclosed that dowry for Islamic marriage in Nigeria now N13,438. The former Scholar with School for Arabic Studies and Bayero University Kano who further stated that it was permissible for wealthy husbands to pay amounts higher than the official acceptable fee, said the marriage would become invalid and illegal without the dowry being paid.

The Islamic cleric who disclosed that the dowry to be paid in lslamic marriage in Nigeria is now N13, 438,  added that prospective husbands could use cows, parcels of land, gold and other valuables as payment of dowry for their intended wives.

The National Population Commission has said the next census will cost well over N220bn.

The Director-General of the NPC, Dr. Ghaji Ismail, said this in Abuja on Tuesday at the commencement of fieldwork for the continuation of the Enumeration Area Demarcation.

He said the 2015 budget for the proposed 2016 census which eventually did not take place was put at N220bn.

Ismail said with currency devaluation and inflation rates, the commission would require much more than N220bn to conduct a census.

The DG said,

“How much will it cost? At this point in time it is going to be very difficult because there have been changes. It is not something you can say off hand but if we deduce from our previous submission in 2015 hoping that it would take place in 2016, a lot has changed in terms of currency devaluation but if we are to use the 2015 submission, we are looking at a submission of over N220bn.”

Ismail said although the 2019 budget proposal had no provision for a census, a separate budget could be submitted for the exercise.

Ousseynou Sy, originally Senegalese but with Italian citizenship, stopped the bus he was driving, with two classes of high school students on board.

He was said to have ordered the children's hands to be bound and threatened to kill them and himself during the drive, before setting the vehicle on fire when he was stopped by a police blockade today.

Officers broke the glass in the back door of the bus and got all the passengers to safety without serious injury before the flames destroyed the vehicle, authorities said.

As he was apprehended, the driver said he was protesting migrant deaths in the Mediterranean, Commander Luca De Marchis told Sky TG24.

The incident happened in San Donato Milanese, a town near Milan, Italy.

The 47-year-old father of two, whose ex-wife is Italian, has been arrested and charged with carnage and kidnapping, worsened by the fact that most of the people involved are under age.

De Marchis told Sky TG24 that the driver, an Italian citizen of Senegalese origin in his 40s, threatened the passengers, telling them that 'no one would survive today' as he commandeered the bus carrying two middle-school classes in Cremona province, some 25 miles (40 kilometres) from Milan.

ANSA quoted one of the students as saying the driver took all their phones and ordered the chaperones to bind the students' hands with cable ties, threatening to spill gas and set the bus ablaze.

The student, whose name was not given, said a classmate managed to conceal his phone.

The Ogun state police command has arrested 25-year old man, Ajibade Olumuyiwa, pictured above, for allegedly killing one Olakitan Balogun, who he alleged was having an affair with his wife.



Ajibade was arrested following a distress call received by the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, of Ajuwon Division from residents of Doland Estate that a man had murdered his wife's side man right inside his house.



On interrogation, the suspect explained that he came to his house in the middle of the night and met the deceased right inside the house with his wife, which he said infuriated him and then he started beating the man. In the process, he hit his head against the wall which led to his death.



His wife however denied having an affair with the deceased. She said her husband had abandoned her in the house for the past eight months with an instruction to the gate man to be monitoring her and be giving him information if he saw her with any man.



She stated further that the victim was a cobbler leaving within the area and that on that day, the deceased’s girlfriend came to pay him visit and that since he was not living alone, he decided to bring the girl to a room in the house due to his closeness to the family.

“But as soon as the gateman saw him, he alerted the husband who rushed to the house and descended heavily on the deceased without listening to any explanation from her and the girlfriend to the victim,’ she said.

Meanwhile, the corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal office, on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 secured the conviction and sentencing of one Andrew Aigbedion, an internet fraudster from the Special Offence Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos state and presided over by Justice Sherifat Solebo. Gistvic Reports.

The convict was arraigned on a one-count charge that borders on possession of a fraudulent document. Gistvic Reports.

The count reads, “that you, Andrew Aigbedion (a.k.a Steve) on or about the 5th day of January 2018, at Lagos, within the Ikeja Judicial Division, had in your possession a document wherein you falsely represented yourself to one Anne that you are a widower and originally from Greece and has lived in the United States of America for less than 26 months when you knew or ought to know, having regard to the circumstances of the case, that the document contains false pretence and committed an offence contrary to Section 318 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State No. 11 of 2011.”

The prosecution counsel, Bilkisu Buhari, informed the court that the convict pleaded guilty to charge preferred against him at the last sitting and consequently, moved to review the facts of the case.

According to the prosecution counsel: “Sometime in May 2017, the defendant was arrested by operatives of the EFCC and upon his arrest, he volunteered his statement. In the course of the investigation, he admitted to being into romance scam.

“Upon a forensic analysis into his email address-musicalous@yahoo.com-, documents containing false pretence were printed out. “The defendant impersonated a white man named Steve and confessed to obtaining the sum of $15,000 (Fifteen Thousand United State Dollars) and Seven Million Naira (N7, 000, 000) from unsuspecting members of the public.

“The defendant also admitted to purchasing two exotic cars from the proceeds of crime, which he agreed to forfeit to the Federal Government.”
The prosecution counsel, upon the detailed review of facts, prayed that Aigbedion be convicted as contained in the plea bargain agreement.

The convict’s counsel, however, prayed the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing his client, stating that he was a first-time offender who had shown remorse and promised to change. Justice Sherifat Solebo found him guilty of the offence and sentenced him to one year imprisonment. His cars were forfeited to the Federal Government. Gistvic Reports.
