otokx:I'm sure that u must have applied for the US. visa more than 5 times, yet u are there running your mouth about nothing being in America. The bridge was made by man, so one must expect some failure. Some people here are just so insensitive. Dang!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Ok, acidrop u too are intelligent . For real though, u really are cuz I've read some of ur posts too. |
The collapse of the bridge had nothing to do with terrorism, we need to hold Gov. Tim Pawlenty responsible. I drove south on that road (the bridge that collapsed was on the northern part of the interstate highway), while my friend drove on that particular bridge 20 minutes before it happened (he's thanking God now). It's unfortunate to have such a disaster, I pray God to give those who lost their loved ones the strength to get over it. The One:U don't even wanna compare the infrastructural development to the crappy bridges that u got in Lagos (this particular incident is just one of the rare occurrences with infrastructures here). No body in their right mind would wish such a thing happens in Nigeria. |
I knew u couldn't have castigated Ivvie if u had understood the statement, U are a very brilliant girl, that was why I wanted to know or understand what u were implying. Anyway, have a great time. |
Wes, if u read his post a little bit better, u would have realized that he didn't say women should shut up, but rather "Women that shut up and keep their opinions to themselves are not foolish or dumb. They are indeed smart or wise to be precise. Their brains are defaulted to be the central processing unit unlike those with mouths faster than their brains." I would rather see that as a compliment, than an insult. |
Douzy, just a compliment, from what I read in most of ur posts, I realised that u are a very intelligent person. I found urs and iice's contributions on the thread "Why Nigerian men don't get married early" (hope that was the exact title) very compelling and brilliant. Nice one guys. Just thought I should post this compliment here since this is ur thread. |
Veracious, where do u worship at? I don't believe one has to lead an austere lifestyle to be considered holy by God and men. Are u guys telling me that the likes of Hagin, Dollar, Copeland, etc. don't preach holiness or that they are not holy themselves? Let u guys stop deceiving urselves and worship God in spirit and truth and not by austerity. Dios and Enitan, forget Veracious and her holier-than-thou attitude. |
U are freaking funny dawg. I ain't got no qualms with living holy (in fact, I would love to lead a holy lifestyle), but the way some of these people take is just plain ridiculous. God ain't got no problem with us looking nice and making Him proud (I believe looking good is part of making God proud). Why would God give us the brain to create toys that we wouldn't enjoy? But in all honesty though, I think Veracious and her likes need a total make-over; perhaps if she got the privilege of watching Oprah (oooppppppsssssss, it's a sin to watch TV, my bad) she might get that make-over she deserves. Just a piece of my mind Lady V., sorry if I kinda sounded rude or unholy |
Dios, what gave u the impression that Veracious is a deeperlifer? U are funny dawg! I don't think deeperlifers are allowed to go without a head gear or put on the kind of shirt she's got on on her profile. BTW Veracious, do u too go without watching TV? If u do, what are u doing on the internet? The internet too got lots of porn, u might wanna take a peek. |
WesleyanA:Wes, what did u try to imply by that statement please? I would like to know what was on ur mind when u made that statement before I respond to it because I don't wanna jump in without understanding u. Was that statement in disagreement with what he said or what? |
I call this bullshit! Most of u are glorifying the shadow rather than seeking the substance. It isn't the amount of preaching or teaching that ur pastors do that count, but the lives led by u all. Some people here are just so passionate about fellow men, giving me crap that Kumuyi, Adeboye, etc. are the best preachers, on what did most of u base ur categorization? I got some questions for u claiming Kumuyi is the best, what's gonna happen to ladies who wear pants, make-up, jewelries, etc and yet still worship God fervently? And also, what happens to those of us who watch TV and yet LOVE the Lord? I believe in the Holy Spirit and the oneness of God, most of these pastors that most of u consider the best in the biz teach austerity, not necessarily meekness. That Christ wore sandals doesn't mean I too should go about wearing sandals, just an analogy here plz. Let us lead our lives, enjoying the good things that God's brain enabled science to create and not try to make those who know how to enjoy and tap into God's brain feel guilty. |
My2cents, thank u very much for ur contribution. I knew Oprah couldn't have made such a sweeping statement cuz it smacks of stupidity. There's no link or whatsoever showing when she actually made the statement. I believe Vitalis who sent the letter to The Punch newspaper got his quote all messed up. Militia, if u think all Nigerians got the bug for corruption, I dare to tell u that u are own ur own. I definitely know that I'm not corrupt and will never be. |
Davidylan, what kind of reasoning was that? Damn dude! I know we all are entitled to our opinions, but how's dismissing students from a college because of their health status rational? What has the US.'s policy on granting people visas got to do with getting a "quality" education? Just like n-gauge and some other people stated, it is an outright discrimination to dismiss HIV positive students from school. Does Harvard or any other elite private universities send people away because of their health status? Just call what CU is doing what it is, DISCRIMINATION rather than trying to justify what is freaking wrong! Or do u have any stakes at CU? No hating, just pissed at your attitude sometimes |
mamaput:Mamaput, with all due respect, I think u just missed a shot here. If people knew they would be caught, nobody woulda stolen. If ur kid wanna be bad, she's gonna be bad honey! Her wanting to be an accountant wouldn't stop her (at the most) from stealing or engaging in stupid activities. I wanna believe that u got good kids, but don't get too comfy and all jolly jolly thinking the kids are perfect. BTW, why do u have ur kid's photo on here? Just wondering plz. |
What could they learn that they wouldn't learn if they grew up with u in the U.S.? How old were u when u left naija? |
K0be u seem so obsessed with raising ur kids in naija. What would be ur primary reason to send ur kids to naija if not to learn the so-called manners that u think they may not learn from growing up in the U.S. or Europe? I believe what mamaput is trying to let u understand is that, she's done her best raising her kids in Germany, and that they haven't turned out like most kids around her. What more should parents ask for if their kids are courteous and don't engage in stupid activities? By the way, did u grow up in naija? U've not really proved ur case against raising one's kids in the U.S or Europe. I've read thru all of ur posts but haven't come across any concrete argument u've got to buttress ur case. Just give some strong argument and stop dancing around the issue. No insult intended K0be, just trying to understand u. I'm for peace! |
Congratulations Wes, u've done well for urself, regarding ur 8000th post. Seun, what's gonna be Wes's trophy? |
I consider it more of a failure to send one's kids to naija rather than the pooh-poohing that some people are trying to push here. I think most people think they gonna fail as parents, so the need to send their kids back to naija. |
What are u insinuating K0be? |
I had the privilege of going to a private school back in naija. What scares u about American high schools is exactly what u get back home. My friends and I started sneaking out of the dormitory at the age of 16 to go get drunk, some picked up the habit of smoking, including weed. Fortunately for me, I later made a choice not to engage even in drinking alcohol (and fortunately, I never smoked either). We went to hotels and did whatever we wanted and acted stupid, it wasn't just my school thing, but a general norm. So tell me, how is this different from what happens in the U.S? I had classmates who had knives and hatchets in the dormitory, the only thing I definitely knew that nobody had was a gun. To me, upbringing is a choice, and the choices we make as human beings are not necessarily based on where u are brought up but on the QUALITY of upbringing u get as a human being. I had the choice of smoking, drinking, and doing whatever but I decided to choose a path that I thought was best for me. Ok, talking about the quality of education people get back in naija, have most of u taken a critical look at the quality of grammar most people write on here? I've read some people's post here that claim to be post-grad students and I just shook my head. Also, talking about respect, most people here who claim to be raised in naija and are well cultured are the ones who insult people the most on this forum; tell me, where is the damn respect y'all are screaming about? I truly appreciate all I got from naija, the memories, education, etc, but I would be a failure if I failed to raise my kids in my own terms rather than having somebody raise them for me! In most cases, kids turn out bad not because they were raised in the U.S, U.K, or any other western country, but the sheer failure of the parents to draw the line when they need to. Let us all stop hiding under the guise that the west is bad for raising kids, but rather look more into ourselves as parents (for those who are already parents and those who hope to be someday), what we do or don't do. |
I was born and raised in naija full time. I'm glad that I grew up there and had the opportunity to learn naija ways and customs. But I definitely plan on raising my kids where I live because one of the greatest things about having kids is being able to watch and nurture them. That kids in the West seem bad has to do a lot with the parents' style of raising their kids. Even if I'd lived where I live now as a kid, I would definitely have been as focused as I'm today. I can't and I won't have anybody raise my kids for me, somebody (I guess Mamaput) asked, "why have kids if u can't raise them?" Please give me a break, how many kids do make a constructive living for themselves back home in naija? How many kids actually write WAEC without external help? Most kids who have parents living abroad tend to act spoiled because they got that false aura about them that their parents are "rich," so they mostly act snubbish and stupid. If naija was that super to raise kids, why do kids/adults engage in deadly cultism in colleges and universities? I don't believe that where u live or grow up makes u, but your choices make u the man or woman u turn out to be. |
Ok, all those that have hurt me on NL should come forward and apologize now, haha. Anyway, nice story, but y'all trying to put on some facade cuz of some story should keep that BS to themselves. Before one says Jack Robinson, y'all would start cussing and speaking some big grammar that ain't in the books. Touching story anyway. |
First, I wonder why y'all are bothering ur heads with some DUMB PUNK. He doesn't show any form of reasoning to prove that he's an undergrad, moreso a postgrad student. What in the world did English1 and Loverbwoy say that differred from the advice that MrPat and VOR gave? How can u bring somebody to a foreign country if u don't have the legal or financial status to support them? Dude, I wonder what college or University u are getting ur degree from. I wonder how u are gonna do ur thesis. Urs is a case of complete ignorance coupled with stinking dumbness and arrogance. I'm coming on strong on u like this cuz of the way u responded to English1 and Loverbwoy's responses (u were just completely rude and clueless). It's the exact same thing that they said to u initially that MrPat and VOR painted in some other light. Dude, u need a lot of studying and enlightenment. |
Long distance relationships are freaking difficult, just go ahead and end it. If u really like him and are ready for the hassle that comes with this kind of relationship, then give it a shot. But the truth is, u are just 20 and still got a whole lotta life ahead of u, let u guys just remain friends while u explore other options. Canada could get really cold, and u are gonna need some warmth that he ain't got long enough arms that could stretch from naija to Canada. By the way girl, how do u plan on making the relationship work? |
Wes and Sef, being a premed is really fun. l'm a Neuroscience major and l hope to get into med school after l get my B.S. The truth is, don't be intimidated with the thought of taking Chem, Phy, Maths, or Bio because they are just like every other course that u are going to take. Im not telling u that they are super easy, but just giving urself time to study will determine how well u do in them. Volunteering while taking these courses isn't difficult as long as u create time to volunteer and time to study. I did volunteer 4 hours/week at the hospital while taking Ochem and Integral calc coupled with other classes (and l did great). l believe u both are very smart and u shouldn't let anything stand in ur way to becoming medical doctors if that's what u (both) wanna do. Have fun. |
Zyman, u and ur real estate company are funny. Reading some of the postings on this thread initially kinda looked funny. But seeing that u and/or ur real estate company could talk about listing a house or some crappy ass apt that doesn't boast of uninterrupted power and water supply for $70k /yr or so is just plain ridiculous. Paying mortgage for a $500k - $700k house in the U.S that yields equity in the long run isn't even up to that in a year. What kind of houses are u guys listing for $3m? Dude, do u know what $3m is at all? Anyway, I'm just gonna consider all of ur listings as some form of joke or something. This must be one of ur stupid yahoo yahoo touch. |
At times I begin to wonder at Seun's (and some others) pattern of thinking. How does demand and supply affect businesses in Naija? We all know that in most market situations in Naija, the crude law of the jungle plays a prominent role. Just like some dude cited, a lot of Nigerians earn way too little to withstand the so-called forces of demand and supply. From experience Seun and co, y'all should know that the law of gravity as related to market forces doesn't apply to Naija's situation; whatever goes up (in the case of gas and the likes) never comes down. When was the last time that jacked-up gas prices ever went down? C'mon Seun and co, stop trying to act like westerners by telling people that market forces should control what happens next. Y'all know that the government controls almost every aspect of Nigeria's economy, even the damn privatized corporations that those in govt cunningly bought over. Seun, abeg na Naija u dey, speak the language wey Naija man understand and stop trying to teach some stupid economic theories that u ain't know shit about. |
I'm always puzzled when I read "The Sun newspaper online," particularly, the "Sun girl" section (where they post a girl's photo and statistics). Agreed that some of the girls are gorgeous, but 9 out of 10 always claim to be models. Even those that are 5"2 claim to be models. Do Kesse Jabari and co. put girls barely 5' tall on their runways in naija? By the way, I know we Africans don't over-emphasize the need for women to be thin, but c'mon, even the chubby girls always claim to be "models." Plz, I just wanna know from those of u who are fashion savvy and are in tune with the modelling industry in naija if girls that I do see on the Sun's website are what walk the runways in naija. |
From what I know, it is a waste of time to even think that u wouldn't take the USLME and do ur residency here (that is if one happens to pass it as a foreigner cuz it's not just passing it, U gotta do REALLY good for u to be considered for residency) cuz no hospital would take even a first look at u in the first place. My advice to u Bimbor is to graduate, gain a little bit of experience back in naija (if u don't have the means to come here immediately) and then ready ur butt for the different stages of the USMLE. The truth is, if u get here and don't do better than those who went to med school here, u might just end up being a nurse. So girl, make sure u are getting the right stuff before nagging ur mind about coming here for residency. |
Just being curious here Angel, which one(s) don't u agree with? |
Please don't ask, "are u a gay?" because that doesn't look good to the eyes or sound nice to the ears. Ask "are u gay?" without the "a." @ Trippled, Being a hairstylist doesn't really make u gay, but most male hairstylists are. But ask yourself this before jumping on it, how straight are u? The profession kind of sounds gay to me, but lotta guys do it. But hey dawg, go do what u gotta do if it's going to make u happy. But once in a while, still hit on the ladies to test if u are still straight or "bent" |
I begin to wonder how Seun reasons! Seun, what the heck are u talking about? |
. For real though, u really are cuz I've read some of ur posts too.
