FXKing2012: You keep saying I am digressing from the original post. Well, that is because you guys are unable to see the big picture. Bishop Oyedepo and the issue of curse is but a very small part of the discussion/argument. You need to expand your view in order to grasp my point. Even though the OP talks about Bishop Oyedepo and the curse on BH, but u need to understand that it is only a precursor to a wilder argument on the existence of God, power given to men of God and the potency of such power.
I know this may be difficult for some of you to comprehend as u are unable to expand your view and scope. You can only operate at the level of the exact words that were used.
Intelligence and logical reasoning require the ability to bring in issues that are outside the original argument and incorporate them perfectly into the original argument. So quit being so primordial or elemental in your arguments - try to see the wider picture by expanding your view. Which power did God give to Charlatans?? The power to deceive? Is the curse working or Not? Very simple |

plaetton:
I just shake my head at the things I come across on this forum and I really wonderin what planet some of these posters are living,
I remember that economics was a compulsory course in junior secondary school . I remember that economics deals primarily with wealth: how it is created and how it distributed and managed. From a simple study of secondary school economics it becomes obvious to a thinking person that wealthy nations produce more wealthy individuals and not visa versa. Also , that natons become wealthy based on how efficiently they organise and allocate both their natural and human resources. Period. I dont remember reading about who is a child of god and who not a child of god. Unless the laws of economics have changed, there are no "Hail marys" about economics and the prosperity of nations and individuals. For anyone who is old enough to remember, there was a time when a mid level civil servant, christian, muslim, religious or not, could afford to build a house, drive a car and train his children to any educational level. This was in the sixties and seventies. Since the early 80s our economy tanked and our standard of living have followed in the same direction ever since. Eversince, the means of producing wealth and prosperity have gradually faded from our landscape as factories and warehouses have long given way to mega churches(what an Irony). and ofcourse, everyone shouted halleluya. I'm sure the Op has not made the connection between closed factories and increasing poverty. People need to understand that There is nothing personal about poverty. According to yesterdays news, 80% of Nigerians are poor and there is nothing to corrolate this state of affairs with anyones religious belief. Obviously, our past leaders have not done a good job of efficiently allocating and managing our vast natural and human resources.l There are more poor people in poor countries. That is just common sense. Thats is why people from poor countries migrate to richer countries so that they too can have an opportunity to be comfortable or rich. This idea of personalizing one's poor economic situation is just one of those gimmiks employed to exploit the vulnerable among us. If you want to improve ur financial or economic situation, then get a skill. a markatable skill. Stop the deciet and delusions. I have come to a conclusion. People who actually believe in that church materialistic prosperity nonsense, are either really delusional or highly deceitful!!! Developed countries develop through hard-work and collective effort and not through paying tithes or sowing seeds to charlatans. Our leaders rulers have really failed us. |

dekung: FXKing, pls what is your accademic qualification? Am asking this because the way you reason and present arguments actually connotes someone who doesnt have more than a secondary education. Your arguments are shallow, myopic, unintelligent, lack content. Sometimes when I read your posts I feel like throwing up. This is a forum where people are free to air their opinions about issues but this should be presented inteligently to make it interesting to read. Pls try and present your points like you have some brains inside that your skull Honestly Dekung, I actually believe academic qualification has nothing to do with common sense. Alot of sensible people without any academic qualification but still make a lot of sense. This is a simple case of common sense. Somebody claims a man's curse is having effect on a terrorist organisation, an organisation that is still very active and have conducted several attacks after this mysterious powerful 'curse' yet we and an individual convinced that this Mighty man is a 'Man of God'Seriously. |

-Sighs- People Pls what has this;kokoye: This is a religous thread - a place where we can anonymously come and discuss and gain better understanding and explanation. At least that is what it ought to be. It is not every thread created that is meant to incite hate and bashing . .some of us just want to discuss and understand things better. I cannot go to the church leadership to ask these questions cos they might label me a rebel.
So, having said that, here is my question
"What God has joined together, let no man put asunder"
Why do some churches put aside this biblical phrase and deal with only one member of a family?:
- They make a wife or husband a deacon without at least informing the spouse
- They call a wife or husband and tell them they want to use their house for home cell fellowship . .without consulting the spouse
- They assign a volunteer job to a husband or wife without consulting with the other party. . .this is a job that will definately take precious time away from the family.
- They send out separate letters (to the husband and wife) when it is time for seeds and donations.
Can someone please explain why this is so?
I understand some posters may tend to turn this into a bashing thread - that is not my aim nor am I in control of it. Please ignore such posts.
Hopefully we can talk about this in a mature way. Got to do with this;tpia@: Those of you who feel angry, bitter, annoyed, vengeful, etc whenever you see a couple, what are your reasons for feeling that way?
Note, this question isnt only for singles- there are also others in relationships of their own who are also into this lifestyle of homewrecking other people's homes.
Also, this doesnt include relationships where someone (usually the easygoing party) was elbowed out of the way. Neither am i referring to relationships that had k leg from the getgo. Or this; tpia@: Back to topic
if you're helping satan do his job, then why exactly do you still feel you belong in a church?

10 characteristics of conspiracy theorists A useful guide by Donna Ferentes
1. Arrogance. They are always fact-seekers, questioners, people who are trying to discover the truth: sceptics are always "sheep", patsies for Messrs Bush and Blair etc.
2. Relentlessness. They will always go on and on about a conspiracy no matter how little evidence they have to go on or how much of what they have is simply discredited. (Moreover, as per 1. above, even if you listen to them ninety-eight times, the ninety-ninth time, when you say "no thanks", you'll be called a "sheep" again.) Additionally, they have no capacity for precis whatsoever. They go on and on at enormous length.
3. Inability to answer questions. For people who loudly advertise their determination to the principle of questioning everything, they're pretty poor at answering direct questions from sceptics about the claims that they make.
4. Fondness for certain stock phrases. These include Cicero's "cui bono?" (of which it can be said that Cicero understood the importance of having evidence to back it up) and Conan Doyle's "once we have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however unlikely, must be the truth". What these phrases have in common is that they are attempts to absolve themselves from any responsibility to produce positive, hard evidence themselves: you simply "eliminate the impossible" (i.e. say the official account can't stand scrutiny) which means that the wild allegation of your choice, based on "cui bono?" (which is always the government) is therefore the truth.
5. Inability to employ or understand Occam's Razor. Aided by the principle in 4. above, conspiracy theorists never notice that the small inconsistencies in the accounts which they reject are dwarfed by the enormous, gaping holes in logic, likelihood and evidence in any alternative account.
6. Inability to tell good evidence from bad. Conspiracy theorists have no place for peer-review, for scientific knowledge, for the respectability of sources. The fact that a claim has been made by anybody, anywhere, is enough for them to reproduce it and demand that the questions it raises be answered, as if intellectual enquiry were a matter of responding to every rumour. While they do this, of course, they will claim to have "open minds" and abuse the sceptics for apparently lacking same.
7. Inability to withdraw. It's a rare day indeed when a conspiracy theorist admits that a claim they have made has turned out to be without foundation, whether it be the overall claim itself or any of the evidence produced to support it. Moreover they have a liking (see 3. above) for the technique of avoiding discussion of their claims by "swamping" - piling on a whole lot more material rather than respond to the objections sceptics make to the previous lot.
8. Leaping to conclusions. Conspiracy theorists are very keen indeed to declare the "official" account totally discredited without having remotely enough cause so to do. Of course this enables them to wheel on the Conan Doyle quote as in 4. above. Small inconsistencies in the account of an event, small unanswered questions, small problems in timing of differences in procedure from previous events of the same kind are all more than adequate to declare the "official" account clearly and definitively discredited. It goes without saying that it is not necessary to prove that these inconsistencies are either relevant, or that they even definitely exist.
9. Using previous conspiracies as evidence to support their claims. This argument invokes scandals like the Birmingham Six, the Bologna station bombings, the Zinoviev letter and so on in order to try and demonstrate that their conspiracy theory should be accorded some weight (because it's “happened before”.) They do not pause to reflect that the conspiracies they are touting are almost always far more unlikely and complicated than the real-life conspiracies with which they make comparison, or that the fact that something might potentially happen does not, in and of itself, make it anything other than extremely unlikely.
10. It's always a conspiracy. And it is, isn't it? No sooner has the body been discovered, the bomb gone off, than the same people are producing the same old stuff, demanding that there are questions which need to be answered, at the same unbearable length. Because the most important thing about these people is that they are people entirely lacking in discrimination. They cannot tell a good theory from a bad one, they cannot tell good evidence from bad evidence and they cannot tell a good source from a bad one. And for that reason, they always come up with the same answer when they ask the same question.
A person who always says the same thing, and says it over and over again is, of course, commonly considered to be, if not a monomaniac, then at very least, a bore.

You do it ,you enjoy the benefit , you don't do it you miss out of its blessing. It's not an issue of compulsion here.
