Agriculture should be a multi billion naira investments. Poor farmers don't engage in agriculture.
Agric products should be taxed to encourage best production and consumption. Exporting legally and like the rest of the world do brings in though needed foreign exchange.

Everything is wrong with this country.

There is some sense in what he is saying ,Lagos can't stand alone without the rest of Nigeria. Those corporate headquarters too and the ports and all that stems from the Nigerian people

Let's take alcohol. I buy alcohol in Lagos...I pay vat there...but the alcohol is eventually destined for Enugu state...where VAT is paid again...

Or bread...I buy flour in Kaduna.....VAT is paid there...to make bread in Gombe..and on selling the bread...VAT IS PAID per loaf of bread sold

Naturally, I won't be paying the VAT...I'll pass the cost of the VAT to the consumer in the form of even higher prices.

Then there is the fact that states can and will increase VAT...because, you know, revenues from oil and allocations from Abuja are falling.

At the end of the day, wahala dey.

I am all for restructuring and more autonomy for the states, but I also know that you Nigerians don't want to pay higher for anything.

And at the end of the day, many of you would pay higher for some of your favorite consumer products due to....higher VAT in some states, plus double vat collection (VAT being collected on goods sold in Lagos for distribution in Enugu..where another VAT would be collected)

Plus, it does not solve the issue of low level of taxation by state and federal governments.
