Let me start by saying, in no way are their actions justifiable, however, it will be note worthy that this story may not be entirely true.

When you are arrested, you seldom write your own statement, this is mostly the case if you are young or uneducated, the police write the statement based on the charges they want to charge you with. This is the only explanation as to how an illiterate can write a fine and well articulated statement.

First, one of the charges leveled against the boys is that they stole a blackberry phone from the victim, on which of the victim's phone then did they call to place the ransom as stated by the police.

Here is a logical explanation, the girl went to the culprits willingly, they had a nice time consuming alcohol, when she was drunk they had their way with her. Upon the realization of what has happened the girl informed her folks. But then her folks will ask her how she got to the culprits place, thus the story of the ring and being unconscious.
