I am frm d south & a Xtian but dis election to me is not about my tribe or religion. Xtianity has not had an impact on GEJ's style of leadership neither has being a southerner made him a better leader. To me dis election will be a referendum on d performance of d 2 major candidates when they held public office. I hav lived under GEJ. I hav researched copiously on GMB. I know dat GMB is a patriot who rescued Nigeria frm d brink of total economic collapse in d worst economic recession in our history. If u ask elders or u research on d man GMB, u will know dat he is not d monster they paint him to be & that's why decades after & inspite of some of d most vicious media attacks on him people still revere him highly & hope 4 his return. No past Nigerian leader can boast of dat.
BTW, In 2011 I voted 4 GEJ

U made a sweeping statement about d hausa being BH. U shouldn't do dat. It is very wrong & it is dangerous 4 our nation. dis is an insurgency in which even non nigerians ar involved. At dis point in time, calling a whole tribe boko haram is d last thing we need. We need to go after dis insurgency as a Nigerian problem.
We ar looking 4 a Nigerian leader & not a tribal chief. As long as d person is a nigerian, where he/she comes frm should not really matter. Competence & not tribe should be our preoccupation. GMB has been tried & tested in d past & proven to be one of Nigeria's greates leaders.

Ar u always dis clueless?. For a young girl like u to exhibit such blanket hate & bigotry towards a whole tribe is very unfortunate, worrying & dangerous 4 our country. If u hate terrorists then why will u support someone like GEJ whose friends include known terrorists like Tompolo & Asari Dokubo who was held in Cotonou 4 being a BH leader but was later released after GEJ intervened on his behalf. GEJ says he knows d sponsors of BH but will rather complain & blame d opposition than hav d balls to go after them.

There are too many Harvard trained economists in Nigeria who want to bring foreign economic theories which were fashioned in places that is not Nigeria. Our economic policy must be suited for us. We have to find a way to tweak then to suit Nigerian and not say because it worked in America, it will work here. That is false. If we should borrow economic policies, lets borrow from nations that have similar problems.

Our when coming up with policies, people who actually live in Nigeria, do business in Nigeria and walk the streets with Nigerians should be part of the think tank
Since 1999, Nigeria has intensified d copying of d american economic model without thinking of d local Nigerian reality. It's a system dat creates serious inequality - a wall street & a main street & that's why u see dat d gap between d rich & poor has never been wider.
Since d days of d TCPC under d goggled one, Abacha to d days of BPE under OBJ & GEJ, privatization in nigeria has never been about promoting efficiency but about asset stripping, sharing of our national patrimony & concentrating d assets of our nation in d hands of a privileged few. d govt corporations, infrastructure etc built over many years & generations & dat should rightly belong to our children & grand children now belong to a cabal of govt sponsors in deals dat reek wit corruption & infamy.
Where ar d proceeds frm privatization?. Nigerians hav lost their companies forever wit d lands, buildings & properties & d proceeds frm these sales hav been looted. Unfortunately d youth who should know better fall 4 their antics "Government has no business in dis & dat" they gleefully declare. d youth should shine their eyes, d nation is being scammed.

I read: you said it took just days to dislodge maitatsine. Is that not comparing this prolonged fight against boko haram with maitatsine?

Both the govt and the opposition have been painting each other as sponsors of BH terrorism. But try to recall how GEJ's govt came under attack severally from northern elders for "killing northerners". That should tell you why the fight fluctuated in the early days and allowed BH to prepare for what they are now doing.

And what is the opposition's response to another news that BH has also endorsed Buhari? We must be careful in order not to fall prey to mischievous elements who enjoy creating confusion in the country. Yes, GEJ denied MEND's involvement in the Independent day bombing and that was silly, but what about those who declared that the military's attack on BH was an attack on northerners? If you are blaming GEJ for the lapses in the fight against terrorism do so with objectivity by examining the roles of other stakeholders whose cooperation could have no doubt ended the insurgency in its early days. Lets move away from partisanship into neutral ground and see if the faults are not truly shared by both the govt and those now calling for GEJ's head over boko haram.

You said GEJ took advantage of the insurgency to set Christians against Muslims for political gains; what could be more coldblooded when that part of the country had been witnessing several Muslims vs Christians conflicts decades before GEJ joined politics?
I think u just jumped on d post without knowing d context in which it was made. I was only correcting a poster who said dat Maitatsine riot took 5yrs & killed over 15,000 people & I said No, it's not so.
WHAAAAT! Did u say BH endorsed Buhari?. Such a claim is so outrageous dat all I can tell u is to stop getting ur news frm Okupe's Twitter handle. BH dat almost succeeded in killing d General?.
We need a Commander in Chief & not a Complainer in Chief. Leadership is not about making excuses & blaming d opposition but about rising to d occasion. dis is a very complex country & all nigerian leaders ar bound to experience challenges. OBJ had d Sharia agitations to contend wit. d agitations if not handled wisely had d potential of being a bigger problem because of its wider acceptability. I'm no OBJ fan, but he didn't complain & blame everyone else rather thru wisdom, tact, diplomacy & political sagacity he was able to neutralize d opposition & steer d country away frm d precipice. d leadership of Nigeria is not a tea party 4 all comers. We ar at d crossroads today because we hav a leader who has shown clearly dat he lacks d bandwidth to govern a country as intricate & complex as Nigeria.
Yes, we hav always had divisions but whether u want to admit it or not, dis is d most divisive leader in our history. #shame

...your earlier brief comparison between BH and Maitatsine left me with no other option than to respond the way I did. And, come to think of it, you certainly intended to convince those who don't know the difference between the ancient maitatsine rioters and BH rebels to regard GEJ as too incompetent to disperse even a group of cudgel-bearing anarchists. It's my turn to say "don't try to reclaim lost ground through some glib moves by getting it twisted".

...It's tragically funny to say "GEJ saw the insurgency as an opportunity to rally his political base of support by pitching Xtians against muslims 4 political gains". I have never come across such a cold-blooded and barefaced attempt at hoodwinking. Tell that to those who know little or nothing about the psyche of hardcore fundamentalist clerics and their millions of almajiri followers in northern Nigeria. GEJ wasn't on seat when thousands of people trooped out into the streets of Kano and Gusau to celebrate the terrorist attack on the world trade centre in the USA in 2001. Maybe you don't believe in judgement after death. If you do you won't tell such lies!
Kindly re-read my earlier posts, u might be mixing my posts wit another. I never compared d present BH dat we hav to maitatsine riot.
I ask u & u need to be honest, ar u saying dat dis govt does not try to paint d opposition as those behind terrorism in Nigeria?. Even as of yesterday knowing dat MEND had endorsed d opposition, d president tried to sell dat same narrative by saying dat d terrorist MEND was paid to assassinate him. If it's not d opposition dat had just been endorsed by MEND dat sponsored d terrorist assassination plan who could it be?. btw prior to their endorsement of d opposition, GEJ had always defended Mend in dat bombing on independence day.
Guy I understand ur pain. It's not easy to accept dat it's happening. But if u keep an open mind u will see clearly what is happening. I'm not flippant & cold-blooded is d farthest word u can use to describe me. I wish dat dis govt will stop politicizing dis insurgency & giv d boko boys a good fight & save our country frm further pains. I am a southerner & a Xtian but I hate d subtle divisive vibes dat I get frm dis govt.

It's laughable to compare Maitatsine with boko haram: maitatsine assembled themselves in particular areas of the towns they lived and were, therefore, easily surrounded and overwhelmed. Even boko haram made the same "mistake" by confining themselves to a particular part of Maiduguri where they were dislodged within record time. Can you say the same of the now scattered and more trained BH who have also been receiving top military training in Mali, Chad and other countries?

Praising those past govts for crushing those rag-tag maitatsine "neophytes" who holed up within specific places in town centres is like decorating a hunter for killing caged animals in the zoo. People ought to take note of the big difference.
Don't get it twisted. d point I'm making is dat BH under Mohammed Yussuf was like a clone of Maitatsine - it was local & had no foreign backing & that's why as u pointed out it was possible to easily arrest its leader.
Nigeria is in dis mess today because at d start of dis insurgency, d C-in-C lacked d decisiveness & guts to giv BH a good fight. In his own words, "we were fighting BH wit kid gloves". Meanwhile d hitherto local BH metamorphosed into an Alqeada affiliate & here we ar today wit an Alqeada affiliate to contend wit.
Instead of giving d boko boys a good fight GEJ saw d insurgency as an opportunity to rally his political base of support by pitching Xtians against muslims 4 political gains. Wit little or no achievement to point to, all he needs to do is label d opposition as sponsors of terror & he gets political support frm d gullible.
I wish dat d C-in-C will grow a spine & go after d sponsors of BH whom he says he knows & spare d nation d pains of dis insurgency

That sect had poor leaders with no external sponsorship. How could they ever dream of starting with a greater ferocity that BH whose weaponry were quite impressive?

Quickly nipped in the bud you say.. That's so much praise for attacks that lasted 5 years (1980-1985). Do you know how many lives were lost? Over 18,000! Just a city (Yola) lost 10,000 people in itself (around 1984). I was just perusing the inventory of Nigerian arsenal at that time and it's quite surprising the poorly armed sect couldn't be easily subdued in a military rule.
When BH started, it had poorer leadership wit zero external connections & funding & was very local. It was allowed time to metamorphose to d terror group dat we know today. Maitatsine riots on d other hand started very quickly & spread like bushfire frm maiduguri to kaduna to zaria etc. Thanks to d actions of d FMG it was quickly quelled wit many zealots killed & arrested.
Reading thru many of ur posts it is easy to see dat u know little to nothing about our history & d type of hand dat Buhari was dealt when he became head of state. In leadership terms comparing GEJ to GMB is like comparing an ant to an elephant. How can u compare GEJ who inherited a country in times of plenty & relative peace but turned it into one of more divisiveness, corruption & a hell 4 d poor to GMB, d leader of a corrective govt dat inherited an economy dat had hit rock bottom but thru his ingenuity reversed d course of d economy & made our country buoyant again. Don't say what you know little about. Mr. President was right in the two statements he made. In 2010 when Eagle Square was bombed the official MEND had accepted amnesty from Yaadua and they couldn't have carried out the dastard act. It was a break-away (but unrecognized) faction led by Henry Okah that carried out the bombing. So GEJ was right to say the real MEND was not responsible. In fact, leaders of the official MEND issued a press statement distancing themselves from the bombing and they are still enjoying amnesty from the FG. The fake MEND which Okah superintends (and now been resuccitated by Jomo Gbomo) vehemently rejected the amnesty offer. GEJ was 100% right.
Why is d nation just being told of MEND's assassination plan a few days after they endorsed d opposition?. Wit little or no achievement to point to & in a country wit so many bigots GEJ's political strategy to hold on to power is to continue fighting d insurgency wit kid gloves & blaming d opposition 4 d carnage.
