Celebrities / Omoni Oboli And Her Husband Nnamdi Oboli Stole Okafor’s Law From Me. by datswasup(f): 7:42am On Sep 08, 2016
Canada-based writer Jude Idada has accused Nollywood producer, director and actor, Omoni Oboli of copying his script for her new film, Okafor’s Law which is set to make its world debut at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
Jude Idada

Idada told TNS that Omoni’s 2014 Being Mrs Elliot is also an idea she lifted directly from him without giving him due credit.
Despite signed agreements, TNS investigations reveal striking similarities between Idada's script and what the actress produced.

According to the audio interview datswasup got a hold of, Jude claimed that he had an agreement with omoni to write a script for "being Mrs Elliot" but he told them that he would only do it at his own pace. After sending them the first 50 scenes he said they(omoni and her husband) told him that they had found someone better to work with. It was to his greatest dismay that he watched his own movie at the film festival in France in 201201o4f . He didn't sue despite the advice of friends because of the respect he has for Omoni.

Fast forward to Okafor’s Law, Omoni and her husband called him begging him to write a script for "Okafor’s Law". They had no premise. They told him to Google what Okafor’s Law is and also sent him a text of what the law is. He said after some research, he wrote a script but this time, he decided to make them sign a contract and they negotiated the sum of N750,000 instead of his usual fee of N1,000,000. They have refused to acknowledge the contract or give him credit for the movie. He only wants the world to know his own side of the story and wouldn't be suing. You can listen to the audio on www.tns.ng/omoni-oboli-stole-okafors-law-from-me-jude-idada/

Celebrities / 5 Boss Lessons You May Have Missed In Beyonce’s ‘formation by datswasup(f): 11:17pm On Sep 06, 2016

]’

Okay readers, now let's get in formation.

1. Never Be Afraid To Evolve, But Don’t Forget What Makes You YOU

“Earned all [the] money but they never take the country out me. I got hot sauce in my bag, swag.”

Learn, grow, and evolve, but never forget what makes you YOU. With change comes growth, but never change so much that you forget who you are and what makes you unique.

2. Be unapologetic and proud of your natural beauty –especially in the workplace

“I like my baby hair, with baby hair and afros. I like my negro nose with Jackson Five nostrils.”

In her song, Beyoncé reminds us to be unapologetic and proud of our natural beauty. Be proud of your flaws. That's the only way you can learn self love.

3. Never downplay your greatness. Use your success to inspire others

“Paparazzi, catch my fly, and my cocky fresh. I’m so reckless when I rock my Givenchy dress (stylin’).”

Most times, we try to be modest to make others feel better so we don't come off as cocky. You shouldn't downplay your greatness but instead inspire with your success. Use your success to radiate inspiration in others

4. Never stay stuck in a situation that doesn’t serve you.

“Get what’s mine, take what’s mine. Always stay gracious, best revenge is your paper.”

Do I need to explain further? Size what is yours. After all, It's the year of seizing hence #seizethebae2016.

5. Visualize it, then work hard to get it.

“I see it, I want it. I dream it, I work hard, I grind ‘til I own it.”

So you've seen it and you've wanted it and then buried the thought of ever getting it. Sorry but If you really want it, you should work towards it. Set goals. Don't stop till you get it. Be a boss...

Celebrities / Why You Should Always Wash Your Pots by datswasup(f): 10:52am On Aug 29, 2016
I love house chores but dishes? (I just don’t like washing them) , however most times washing dishes is inevitable because he who eats must be ready to wash dishes..

This fateful evening, it was ‘dish time’ and I struggled through washing the dishes, I heaved a sigh of relief when I finally put the last piece in the plate rack.

Glad I had finished, I turned in the direction of my room but was taken aback by something on the cooker staring at me. It was a POT; a pot I forgot to wash. I was so annoyed that I angrily shouted at the POT, “so you can’t talk abi”, at this point I imagined how simpler life would be if inanimate objects could talk but again I thought about how many pieces of meat I had ‘taken’ silently (I didn’t steal o) and quickly told God to forgive my ignorance and not grant that wish else d pots will start reporting me. LOL.

“I can’t wash this pot again, it has to wait till the next dish time” I said and lazily dashed into my room where I continued my movie .

It was 8pm, we had finished dinner and I was about to settle down for my best tv programme (who wants to be a millionaire), when my mum in her high pitched soprano voice called my name, I prayed in my heart, ‘please mummy, not now’ , I didn’t answer and waited for the ‘confirmation call (that moment you pray that the first wasn’t for you :|), this time I answered and went to the kitchen where she asked why I didn’t wash that POT, I obviously had no reasons so she asked me to wash it immediately and she even added some trays she felt had become dusty and some other unnecessary things.

I wanted to cry but I couldn’t (so I cried inside and frowned outside). But guess what, Nigerian mothers don’t care about your frown!

That night I missed that programme just because I didn’t wash ‘that one POT’ I had to go through this interesting story to make my point.

‘That one POT’ stopped me from watching my favourite programme. That seems insignificant right? ‘That one POT’ refers to those little details or sometimes obvious details we overlook because of procrastination, laziness or even fear, that later costs us some other much more important thing; the things we should have done but gave excuses for and now we regret
That one pot to a student is that material you didn’t read that was the compulsory question in the examination.

To the business man it is that business plan/idea you were going to execute later but you now watch it’s advertisement by another company.
To a blogger, that one pot is that news you saw or heard about first but refused to act on and post, only to see the news being viral the next day.
To a man, “That pot” is that girl you didn’t propose to because you think she’s going to be there forever but has now picked her wedding date (not with you). We all know that African proverb which says; if you keep your feelings to yourself, you will end up fetching water at your crush's wedding.
The truth is that my mum helped me by calling my attention to that one POT but sometimes we don’t even get to wash that one POT again because it has been moved or even washed by another.
The annoying part is that ‘the one POT’ may even take away the time that could have been diverted into more productive ventures.

But the good news is some of us are still in the washing process and can still look out for that POT and some of us are even staring at ‘that one POT’ now and can still make a decision to wash it because no one knows what may happen next.
I am now a certified dish washer . I now check for pots, plates, spoons even under the cooker (before one POT would now spoil my shine). Amo shine when Amo shine.

10 Crazy Laws From All Around The World

Today, we received news that a Nigerian was arrested in Saudi Arabia for being in possession of kolanut. In Saudi law, anyone caught with narcotic drugs will face the death penalty. On that note, I will outline some even crazier laws.

1. It's illegal for women to drive In Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world where it is illegal for any woman to drive a car. This particular law is quite infamous as it has sparked a lot of criticism from notorious feminists world over.

2. You Can't Buy Drinks For More Than Three People
For obvious reasons, some Nigerians have been praying for this law. In Nyala, Nevada, you can’t order drinks for more than three people other than yourself. In other words, if you offer to buy drinks for your entire squad in Nevada, there’s a 100 percent chance someone will glare and say, “You’re not from around here, are you?”. I think I know what prompted this law in the first place.

3. Dubai
In Dubai, taking photographs of people and buildings of political and military importance is illegal. You can't have secks outside marriage. You will end up in jail for up to six years or more. Engagement is not an excuse. You will be reported by concerned neighbors. Take note.

4. Oral secks/sodomy is not allowed in these states
Sodomy is illegal, in general, in Idaho, Utah, Michigan, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. MouthAction is often considered sodomy by many states, according to the Hebrew Bible.

5. You Can't Wear Trousers In France
That was the law until 2013. In 1799, a Paris law made it illegal for women to wear pants in public without special approval from the police. It was once amended in 1892 to allow women to sport trousers while riding horses and again in 1909 to permit the ladies to wear pants while on bicycles.

6. When nature calls, Scotland is the place to be. Simply knock on the first door you see. Local law obliges citizens to allow whoever knocks on their door to use their toilet.

Let me bring it down to Africa

7. In Nigeria, You Can Sue Someone For Failing To Marry You.
Yes o. If that guy or babe promised to marry you and then later refused to fulfill that promise, the court is there to give you a remedy. According to the case of Ezeanah v. Atta (2004) 7 NWLR (Pt. 873), an individual can sue his/her former partner for breach of promise to marry.

8. You Are Not Allowed To Paint Your car "Army Green"
This Act "Army Colour (Prohibition of Use) Act" provides that It is illegal to paint a private car in the colour known colloquially as ‘army green’.

9. You need a television license to purchase a TV In South Africa.
Lol. I am not lying. You can google it.

10. You can get married when you are a day old in Nigeria and it's legal. The constitution provides that the age for marriage is 18(adult) and also provides in a different section that once you marry, you are an adult(18). Smh

We still have some crazy laws in Nigeria. For eg, in Zamfara state in accordance with the sharia law, thieves are amputated and the other law that you cannot allege rape after a period of time but that's for another day.

Okay. She's not so new because on June 3rd, Davido and Chioma also known as Avril sent their greetings to Nigeria "from Paris With Love."

Earlier today, Sdm(subdeliveryman) on Twitter got a dm claiming that Avril is a Babcock girl. She is supposed to be a graduate but got dropped back to 300, 400lvl because of low CGPA.

Davido has been teasing fans with this not-so-mystery-anymore girl. He posts her name on snapchat with heart emojis.

And she posts his name (D) on her instagram bio. On her birthday, she got a shout out from one of Davido's Hkn dudes, Danagog who told her to take care of their king.

Davido follows her and so does Dbanj's alleged wife - "Lineo".

Celebrities / Rape Culture. read story of girl broken by her videoWithDavidk by datswasup(f): 11:04am On Jul 20, 2016
To many girls, their whole life will be made if Davido drags/pulls them onto his video interview for the whole world to see. The opposite is the case for other girls. That is the case for Maria Okugo. Read her story below;

FOR RAPE CULTURE TO END, WE MUST END ALL FORMS OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE.

In March, my friends and I were impacted by rape culture after enjoying an afternoon
of SXSW activities. Heading home past various bars, cyphers, vacationers and celebrities, my friends and I spotted one of my few 1 Nigerian artists, Davido. His “Aye,” “Dami Duro” and “Bahd Baddo Baddest,” are popular selections at primarily African events. While we debated going to say hello, Davido’s friend motioned us over, and Davido interrupted his interview to grab my friend’s hand to greet her, then grabbed my hand as well. He jokingly continued with his interview and we all laughed. Shortly after, Davido rapped up his interview and kindly joined us in fun picture-taking.

Months later, a snippet of Davido’sSXSW interview surfaced on Twitter and Instagram, and when my friends and I realized we were captured in the interview we thought it was dope. My phone blew up with links and “Omg! You’re in this video!” texts. The snippets featured thousands of retweets, favorites and likes. We thought nothing else other than the fact we’re cool chicks.
“Look at the way she slid out to greet him” or “Ashweo,” a misspelling of the Nigerian word “Ashawo” — LovePeddler.

But then we read a Twitter thread bashing us, insinuating we were eager to pursue Davido sexually and get a glimpse of his money. Some twisted the lighthearted nature of the video by sexualizing us, feeding into rape culture’s propensity to label all attractive females sexually available to men. Instagram comments read “Look at the way she slid out to greet him” or “Ashweo,” a misspelling of the Nigerian word “Ashawo” — LovePeddler. Being pretty, speaking in a kind tone and wearing various types of clothing apparently placed us in this demeaning category. Being who we are, all our lives we’ve felt immune to such violence and couldn’t believe the comments we read.

The truth is, many women can relate to various superficial forms of protection to survive in society. I’ve situated my life to fit constraints and gone above and beyond, given my natural appearance, to make sure I don’t seem like I’m “asking for it.” That day, I wore a bandeau and bell flare pants to the festival, which I rethought countless times before I left the house and readjusted many times hoping to satisfy society and “cover up.”

My Instagram, which features photos of myself, a curvaceous girl, in cropped tops, bikinis and body conscious fits remains private to ward off trolls, perverts and those who knowingly an unknowingly indulge in rape culture. I’ve passed on opportunities for growth in my music endeavors, keeping my father the head of my activities primarily because most music producers and artists are male, and I wish to convey a “strictly business” ethos.
The belated backlash to what was a perfect day underscores rape culture and its blind eye to women of all backgrounds. It forces we women to hide and dilute our sense of art and fashion with hopes of making our dress and behavior mimic our core values, which unfortunately, are intangible and cannot be worn. Whether it be our style of dress or character, women are forced to adjust themselves in a way that doesn't seem too suggestive but society is wired in a way that sexualization is too difficult to avoid.

It’s easy to think — this isn’t the story of a woman getting seriously hurt, so why does it matter? Even asking this question shows how deeply ingrained rape culture is, that we’ve become desensitized to the small, daily acts of violence that make women’s lives smaller and less livable. Having told one story from one woman, we invite all of you: What story do you have to tell, to de-normalize rape culture and remind young women we’re people, too?

Maria Okugo is a 2016 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, and her mentor, Omise’eke Natasha Tinsley, a Public Voices Fellow, is a professor of African and African Diaspora Studies.
