I think our general problem here for this AfCON is having absolutely high and mighty hopes for both SE newbies and Afcon newbies in direct contrasts to SE faithfuls and Afcon regulars.
We never had this kine faith for their Uche brothers na. Even Ideye and Emenike never had this much faith.
We've once done this thing for Oduamadu sha. But this time, by contrast, its shockering me.
We don't expect much from Nacho, Iwobi, Aribo. But Nwakali, Ejuke, Onyeka?
You make informed knowledge based deductions on facts and objective assessments. There is not time for double standards or emotional preferences.
Nwakali had potential but potential has a shelf life cycle and his has expired. He has had a lot of help but failed.
I am not God and with God ABSOLUTELY anything is possible.
Ya doing something i don't like with the bolded. I'm not an Nwakali fan but to opine that his time has elapsed is being God-like. Absolutely nothing like you say exist in absolute in the world of sports. Why so so confident like the Owner of the Titanic on whether the ship will sink
A parallel of Sunday Mba is all anyone will use to cancel your insistent opinion.
Head and Tail still very much exist for Nwakali and as such, no mortal alive or dead should be this confident that the outcome is definitely what he or she says it is.
nelszx: Squad as released by CAF, Ighalo wasted our slot for another player.
This Ighalo blame is getting too much. Does he have such gigantic influence on any list that once he says he's available, its 300% sure that he will make the list?
This kine energy supposed to be reserved for Ahmed Musa, in all fairness then.
Okay lets blame Ighalo. But we are not even sharing the blame with those that invited him aka the Team Handlers. I'm not understanding atall. Is the final say not with them?
LadyExcellency: Which Governor has been arrested by US police amid all Executive rascalism?
Except on corruption, no State Executive can be arrested anywhere in the word for trying alternative dispute resolution.
According to Nigerian Constitution, the Governor has a final say on land in the State with good reasons and payments of compensation. Moreover, this issue was done by past military regime.
Don't mind them. They are so full of themselves that the so called law and order they think they are upholding, is the very one they are Ignorant of.
Arrest a sitting Govr in his own domain over conflict resolution?
I need their Fearless Drink Brand sincerely.
Like going to Kano and Arresting Gandollar cos he doesn't want to bend to demolishing a mosque
Or to Wike cos of one Structure he wants to demolish and IG says no.
Everyday, the own goal keeps increasing.
cO laws need change too. Its a very archaic approach.
Since una uncles sabi way to help una, e be like una go begin focus on winning over their trust and mind to your side o. That way its even a win win for you cos she too will stop the disturbances to a degree. She talks and they believe. You talk and aren't as convincing as her. And you are comfortable with conceeding defeat on these fronts?? Naaaah.
It doesn't warrant hate but contempt. Im tempted to even ask if she's your actual biological mom.
This her 2heads and 20k Talk be like one wey happen for dia OBJ period and has mentally stuck in her head.
Na Bubu time we dey and 20k sef no dey epp even fresher or Secondary School student these days.
Win the mendem in your family over to your side asap. You need it this year.
komekn: Because of European influence and the adoption of structural football team discipline and cohesion. The days of picking RAW TALENT from the AFCON seems to be a waning component in recent times.
Add to that the larger percentage of players are already playing in Europe.
The key attributes clubs are looking for is consistent outstanding performance not one offs and flash in the pan players.
Leicester got beat by Division 2 Newport county the third tier of English football in January 2019 in the FA cup. None of those players got any offers from the EPL however one did go to Bristol city.
Unless you do something stupendously outstanding in this AFCON clubs will still look at your club form before making a decision unfortunately.
Quite true. Just that better offers will definitely come.
dijon: Amaju is the worst Nff president have ever known....We need a football technocrat, whether ex international or in real football management to saddle the affairs of our football after this disastrous football regime...
Seeing Eto and Drogba at the helm just dey weak me. This same 21st century o. Yet some Nigerians would still defend rubbish with rubbish POV until shame catch them and they shamefully fall in line.
By now, Their Kanu, Okocha, Mutiu, Amokachi, support dey helm of Affairs of NFF Leadership, but we console with not everyone of them wants the drag.
We'll get there. Maybe all just lock up as they saw how Odegbami didn't win.
Sammydanny: This is the heartwarming video that emerged showing Super Eagles and Villarreal FC winger, Samuel Chukwueze with his mother who was praying for him.
The video has captured the hearts of many fans online.
In the video, the footballer's mom is seen holding his two legs as she prayed for him in Igbo before he departed for Cameroon with the Super Eagles team for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
andrewbaba44: I so much believe in iwobi ,anyway anytime
E go don pas 200 mentions ,Na him people nah ,lol
It will shock us all of he's the most creative SE player after 3group games. I recall he being written off last Afcon but he and Ighalo braced up and bossed things.
Best of Luck to these eagles.
GK headache for Egypt. I'm suspecting Uzoho starting. Setpieces and defence organization is what may trump Maduka.
I do hope he have a great Tourney to at least get a very good team in Ligue 1 or EPL. Hin club mata don taya me.
andrewbaba44: Not our fault that osimhen and onuachu are both out jare
One of sadiq or Awoniyi Might just surprise us
Something in me want the Awoniyi+Nacho u17 syncing to be replicated in this AfCON.
I hope the Midfield combo is gotten right though. It seems to be the headache currently, and not even that Defence that can sleep for the likes of Madagascar.
Also, nobody wan mention Iwobi. I believe he will have a superb tournament.
Nwakali don get like 2000mentions from this thread alone. Na Revelation of Messi?
Who among this newbies to the Midfield is going to be exactly (if not more) reliable like Oghenkaro Etebo was in the last AfCON?
Its more about that reliability for me. Cos most times, clicking doesn't have enough time to work, but doing what's required to stay afloat may just save the day.
Its also why uncertainty is louder. All the gbasgbosaggery doesn't change this fact.
TheSuperNerd: You haven't answered my questions oooo....
How many assists did Modric have at the World Cup in Russia? And why exactly was he named best player at that WC?
How many assists had Xavi at Euros 2008 and tell me why he was named MVP of the tournament?
How many assists did Mikel have at Holland 2005 FIFA U20 WYC to be named by all who saw him & others as the true best player of the whole tournament?
Please I am waiting or you can tell me you don't know
The now thing is that we are underplaying Onyeka's form this season in other to make Nwakali look great. Which is both unacceptable and unfair. One is doing great in EPL and the other isn't even among best this season in Liga. That's one of the reasons this Nwakali thing is baffling me personally. Not that i don't think he is capable or good, but the downplay.
ChrisKels: With this guy as our CM, I see us dominating midfields at the AFCON, if Ndidi could bring his A-game, and Aribo adapts to African soccer. That said, it wouldn't also hurt to have Onyeka as the CM because I feel with his combative/energetic play in the midfield, he could give us that Bennacer vibe. Bennacer was the major reason Algeria won that last AfCon. Dude was a gladiator, a Norse, a viking and Trojan in that midfield battling like a wounded lion.
Personally, i just have more conviction that Onyeka, and not Nwakali, will be SE revelation at this tournament, bar injury. My hopes are raised high on him than Nwakali.
TheSuperNerd: Looolll... you are very kind My special namesake. Thanks so much for the welcome. MAN, am I glad to see you too Dave. Happy New Year. Best of the year to you too.
TheSuperNerd: The question of Aribo vs Iwobi for AM is a very simple one for me to answer right now. My Pick is Aribo. Easy peasy. Insane current form. Mad confidence.. Dude is on fire. We need that right now. We cannot have that on the bench abeg.
But let me analyse a little...
Close to the box, we know Iwobi has shown how good he can be for the GWG with a few goals & assists to show for it, but Aribo showed same in his first two games in the GWG before Rohr began restricting his plays to deeper in midfield. We never saw Aribo play so close to the box again except on few occasions in the last game where his ferocious strike from the Edge of the box almost won the CV game for us.
I have watched enough of Joe Aribo to know that he is no Central Midfield Playmaker or one to dictate plays. He has other attributes. We waste his talents when we play him far away from the box. He's in beast mode close to the box. He is a MF with a direct way to goal.
That lad, Aribo, carries a mighty goal threat from between the lines in the final third and has the touch and the technique to navigate his way towards goal scoring openings either to set up or go for goal himself WHEN PLAYED CLOSE TO THE BOX. Aribo loves situations that allows him to combine in the attacking third with his teammates to create openings for a chance at goal. This is why he is so adept at 1-2 interchanges and making incisive short passes.
Iwobi has the better vision but his shooting is not as consistent or as constantly threatening as Aribo's. Aribo's shooting is way better. Aribo also has the better workrate in addition to his technique and eye for goals. Thus chances of us causing an overload in attack in offensive phases leading to Goals is more possible with Aribo than with Iwobi.
Also, since Aribo will operate behind the striker, close to the box, does it mean the playmakimg duties falls to him? Nope. His own is to roam and exploit the gaps between the lines (gaps in the final third between the defence and defensive Midfield of the opposition) and use his technique and ball control to create further openings of intrusion into the opponent's danger zone.
Who then would playmake if Aribo plays #10? Your answer is Nwakali.
Nwakali is a natural in deeplying Midfield conduction. Iwobi can playmake kinda but not as deep as Nwakali can in Midfield. And this is because Iwobi does not boast the unlimited passing range of Nwakali. Passing range is key because it means a MF or player is able to quickly pick out passes across any distance on the pitch. Also, it enables one to switch plays easily and swiftly across any part of the pitch. This skillset can be a game changer and this is where Nwakali comes in apart from a few other attributes he boasts.
And his numbers in la liga 2 speaks volumes of his passing range.
Ndidi is a World Class ball winner. No one does it better in terms of defensive actions than Ndidi. For the past 4.5 seasons in England he has ruled in that respect. Ball winning, tackling, pressing, interceptions are Ndidi's forte. But Nwakali would also assist on a decent level especially in the areas of interceptions and pressing. His numbers are Decent in these respects. Aribo's workate would also help out coz he covers ground quite well in both phases of the game (defensive and offensive).
So to answer the last question... Yes, My learned One.
An Ndidi-Nwakali-Aribo Midfield will be more than good enough because it would be probably one of the most tactically balanced MFs we would parade in our MF Options arsenal.
An Ndidi-Nwakali-Iwobi MF trio is also very decent. Can compete but I would not wanna miss out on Aribo's close-to-the-box Dele Alli/Lampard-like beast mode. That guy, should start... and having a genuine DLP behind him might just see him emerge as one of the stars of the Afcon.
Time will tell.
Na Happy New Year be this!!!
Welcome Big man. Na Supersports Studios una suppose dey o.
stevemarkdangot: Why is Ihenacho and Ndidi not in camp? Leicester didn't play over the weekend. Even Aina as well. I hope this lack of team bonding won't affect us greatly during the tournament.
This is one of the topmost concerns regarding our team. Especially the defence.
Less than 2hrs after dribbling Mendy, both flew same plane to camp asap. This is where the Dennis issue is going to really backfire.
Na Ndidi person dey tear down laidis vos of unproven Nwakali??
Even if Nwakali gets his chance this year, ill need a whole calendar year before i can access what he offers to the SE. That's the yardstick. If he falls under the Mba Group, no ptoblem.
