All the best to Mission X

2-0 in regular time abeg. Im not pleased with Debbie starting. This is Toni Payne kinda game. But let's see.

I wrote about this last year (and the coach of Bafana Bafana also said something similar). People often say that African teams play beautiful free flowing attacking football, but they forget to defend. European coaches that come to Africa often try to emphasise defending properly, keeping the shape of the team intact, etc. but this often annoys African fans.

Hugo Broos (the Dutch coach of Bafana Bafana) said that no African team can win the World Cup with that system.

Nigerians have often criticised coaches like Philippe Troussier, Thomas Dennerby and Randy Waldrum for tightening up our defences and sacrificing our attacking flair.

I think that's what she was referring to.
The generalizing doesn't even include teams approach of Morocco, Ghana, SA, even Zambia.

These 3 out of 4 sabi pass ball well than us, keeping possession. Yet they mix everything and still balance it out. Na we dey budeh ball pass out of the 4 semifinalists so far. We barely hold possession or string better passes. If na the African football she dey refer, omo!!!

We sabi press sha. But the issue is balancing out instead of all these "this one better pass that"

Especially when you have personnel for such fluid format of play.

Beautiful interview with Ayinde, but i have a problem with that African football part and Randy. Lol

Isn't that the tactics that made us play better ball at the World Cup and made non-lookers finally see the beauty of "African teams"?

We are not the only team in Africa so that term itself is vague cos many factors still exist to not make that term something to generalize right now, especially as other African teams have different approaches that can't be terms what she means by African football that Madugu is using currently.

She was one of the beautiful revelations under the Randy football now. Abi wetin my eyes dey see here?

Anyway..... Hmmmm

We can't have all these countries together at the WAFCON unfortunately, except a change is made to the qualification process. We need to find a way to get rid of this regional qualification process that is extremely skewed againt west african countries
True. The format is stifling and still yet, the group is counterproductive to the aim for the new format. They want more southern teams but still use 3 groups, using best losers format? 😂

Whoever thought that idea no think am well.

What a paradox

The former Ghanian coach largely responsible for building this team left them mod-project to join the Zambian team. Now the team she left just won bronze while she got kicked out of the quarter finals.
I sha commend the Ghana FA for getting a similar manager straight up. If na us, na Local coach straight. But what that Nora taught them needed a like for like minded person and their FA did the needful. Infact if na Local coach, those teenagers no go see this competition.

Now Nora is forced to realize no be by Banda and Kunda. She needs 11 players. She had 11 with Ghana but left for 2 with Zambia. Hilarious

And they've lost their Sasol sponsorship.
At this rate, I don't expect them to do anything significant at the next Wafcon next year. Ghana and Senegal should double up. I hope Cameroon and CIV too do the needful.

South Africa can't handle the pressure of a defending champion , they didn't impress in this tournament at all and this is their golden generation.... you'all need to respect super falcons more
The standards are different hence the demand on Super Falcons. No other team will be in our shoes and not raise eyebrows if it looks like some slack is about to happen.

We will lift it tomorrow sha. And then the next gen can start getting set to step in. I enjoyed the clips from training and post-training. All the debutants sang a song of Thank you to the senior ladies. 😂

Ajibade always play the ball to her right
She better change spot
They have her tapes
The coaching crew of this Vilda man for don study them all. She's lucky Dlamini os right handed at PKs. Else that was a miss. I don't want my concerns to come true cos it will be terrible if the World Cup pk happens again. There were no lasers then. Just terrible takers o. Hmm. Anyways. All the best to Falcons. Mission X all to the last whistle

They look young
I saw about 4 players i recognize from their u20 team. Na soso teenagers. That their coach go siddon like Randy Waldrum. Hin heart wan cut😂

SA will have to press factory reset and go back to the board. The team has peaked and now a new set of faces need to take over. They messed up from their SAFA and kgatlana and ellis...

Seopo sha retire with one Wafcon on her cabinet.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by daveP(m): 10:18pm On Jul 25, 2025
Congrats to Ghana. That retake really helped them win this by the whiskers

Both sides had 4/5 terrible eye sore penalty kicks.

That's worrisome. All use the side of their boots but no power or technique. See that 3rd pk by SA by that tomboy, that's a pass to the gk not a pk.

I hope that's not what we plan to display if it comes down to that sha.

Congrats to Ghana. They were better of 90mins.

The Ghanaian team have really improved through this tournament...they've been able to hold SA this long after losing 2 nil in the group stage.
Im impressed with their passing and duels so far. Sleek ball controls and just that finishing touch lacking upfront. That should have been buried asap. Woodwork hates Ghana ladies at this wafcon. Should have been like an Alozie goal -a "abeg no need for extra time here" goal.

But it's a sign that they are going to deploy their usual gamesmanship and dirty tricks. This is just the first trick. We need to be ready for them.
Sure.

If we score first, do we have what it takes to starve them of the ball and make them chase us down?
Or we allow them have the ball and concede foul upon foul while they grow in confidence with their sleek wing passes?
Or do we do 1v1 or mark out Chebbak and look for counters?

We need to be ready for these.
If na that Afro lady go ref, then i expect some fairness.

But if it's that tunisia lady wey no sabi call foul for us or give yellow to our opponent, then we are already on the 1st backfoot.

This is where we need live and direct impact of the mind of Madugu, not a repeat of what he attempted vs SA.

Nothing go vex me pass us seeing better chances and na baby shooting our ladies dey deploy, missing the net as a result. That will be unacceptable.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by daveP(m): 8:19pm On Jul 25, 2025
They're wasting their mental efforts by trying to checkmate Alozie and Plumptre via documentation issues. These are clowns mehn. This should make us end this under 60mins abeg. Moroccans😂😂😂🙌🏽

If na Enyimba dey do like this, then how does one expect the less successful ones to now react in conduct and principles?

Infact such a statement should evoke immediate reaction from League Management but crickets obviously
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by daveP(m): 10:45am On Jul 25, 2025
I want to believe that our players are now better at Penalties this time around.

E sweet me say Ajibade score that PK but the execution still gave Dlamini an advantage but lucky it entered. I also noticed there's some terrible technique for most of the penalties in this Wafcon across all teams. Senegal and Ghana especially. Terrible technique. I want to believe we won't join our West African neighbors in this category this time around if this ever comes up.

But i want to believe this will be wrapped up under 90mins. All the best to the ladies.

SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by daveP(m): 8:38pm On Jul 24, 2025
Goals and Assists

Chiwendu Ihezuo- 3 Goals/0 Assists
Esther Okoronkwo- 1 Goal/3 Assists
Rasheedat Ajibade- 1 Goal/2 Assists
Rinsola Babajide- 1 Goal/1 Assist
Oshoala, Ohale, Demehin, Alozie, Ijamilusi- 1 Goal 0 Assists
Payne, Plumptre- 1 Assist

Nnadozie- Semi-Assist 🥱

As it stands, we have 3 outfield players up for golden book and ball top 3 in Ihezuo, Okoronkwo, Ajibade
Nnadozie got the golden glove already.

All the best to Mission X. Let's bring this home in style.

When South Africa started that tiki taka and took over the game in the 2nd half
Madugu brought in defensive Ucheibe & Abiodun instead of Payne
He brought in steel instead of a creative midfielder
I don’t know if he got that right but let’s assume it worked in the end
There's a reason we call it a scrappy win. We got lucky as well. They also got unlucky as that injury will distract any team in the world. Besides, all the subs were defensive subs. That's one of what made me believe the aim was Extra time. But Michelle said No.

Lucky us

We don't need such an approach on Saturday though. We need to take the game to them.

I think it is high time some structures are fitted in place for this league. A foundation that doesn't care about whose ox is gored or slaughtered.

If a club can't meet minimum requirements to be at the peak of Nigerian club football, they should face the consequences and get out, declare bankruptcy and just shift abeg.

The top division doesn't need this kind of drama. Let such drama thrive in NNL or NLO or any other N outside the NPFL. But once we are in the NPFL, if you try to mess up or hide behind some nepo moves or incompetence, then the rules that are on minimum requirements should take the fore

This is 2025 na.

And the fact this is under the watch of two of Super Eagles Legend again??!!!

It may have something to do with her attractive she is perceived by the pundits. Let’s be honest, especially with regard to women’s sports, attractiveness plays an outsized role in how a player is hyped (or not)

I agree with you on the Mothlalo example, I don’t think it’s like for like. Ayinde does the dirty job in defensive midfield while Mothlalo is a little bit more offensive, probably more similar to the role Echiegini plays in this tournament. People hardly hype defensive midfielders the way they would hype a flashy attacking midfielder. Okobi for instance, was a flashy attacking midfielder for the super falcons.
Yeah. It's not like for like obviously. Maybe in the women's game but in the men's, DMs get correct hype like their CMs and AMs wella. But i still feel the Naija journos owe her that as regardless of position, she's reliable, consistent and ready anyday for any quality of opponent. Can't even remember the last opponent that made us criticize her. Haba!!
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by daveP(m): 3:06pm On Jul 23, 2025
Okobi raised a good observation with that tweet. Why are the Naija Journalists in particular barely hyping Halimatu Ayinde despite her b2b show up in the middle of the pack across the last 6years? Why? They hype others but when it's her i can barely see an article or some top top noise or focus on her.

For example, The way SA hypes Mothlalo since 2019.....

Niger ia has insecurity issues
Morocco will win the next WAFCON (2026)
That’s their last chance
They will force it by any means necessary
Especially after losing 2 finals, they’d learn from all experience garnered on & off the pitch
Hosting without Return on Investment, nah they will make their atlas lionesses win the next edition by force
3 States can host it without this insecurity affecting it. Lagos can host 2 groups. Ibadan, Benin, Ogun State can host 3rd group. Our top crux is road safety most of the time like what happened to the Moroccans athletes that the Ogun state governor had to step down while passing that toad and help instantly. Aside that, all good.

Abuja can(1group)
Ph and Uyo can(2 groups)

And play KO in Lagos, Ogun, IB

Then final in Uyo or Lagos

Attendance go choke. Na ROI be the koko.
