Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has called on the Federal Government to release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu as part of the peace building effort in the country.

The Governor noted that Kanu’s issue was a socio-political challenge that should be dealt with politically.

According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Affairs, Peter Ichull, the Governor made the call yesterday when a group under the aegis of American Veterans of Igbo origin paid him a courtesy visit in Washington DC, USA.

The Governor argued that the IPOB leader ought to be released pointing out that even members of Boko Haram who posed greater threat to the country’s unity had often been freed, resettled and some integrated into the armed forces.

Governor Ortom was quoted as saying that “for the country to be truly united the South East of Nigeria should be given a sense of belonging to erase the impression of persecution of a section of the country.”

He tasked the Igbo veterans to believe in one Nigeria, stressing that “no country on earth is without its challenges.

“Governor Ortom also told the group that power shift to the South East is possible, if the people of the region put their differences aside to pursue the objective in unity.”

He explained that his earlier call for freedom of worship was not only to protect the rights of Christians, but so that all Nigerians would be free to practice their faith without intimidation or molestation in any part of the country.

He thanked the group for appreciating his modest contributions to national discourses and reminded South-Eastern Nigerians living abroad that charity begins at home, saying “there is nowhere better than home but only peace and security can guarantee the success of your investments back home”.

The governor then called on the veterans to support the peace efforts in the Sout East region so that both their communities and investments would experience sustainable growth and prosperity.

Earlier, the President of the group, Dr. Sylvester Onyia who praised Governor Ortom for his fearless position on Nigeria’s ills, insisting that only such a stand from leaders could build bridges of understanding and give hope to despairing Nigerians living abroad that one Nigeria was possible.

The group however expressed fears for the upcoming general elections owing to the spate of insecurity in the country and called on Governor Ortom not to relent on pursuing the best security options.

The group assured the Governor of its support in amplifying his voice in peace-building to their representatives in the American Congress saying, “you are not alone; we are with you. Continue speaking the truth; truth is the manifestation of God.”

On the delegation according to the statement were the Vice President of the group, Dr. Prince Nduka, Nigeria’s former Ambassador to South Africa, Dr. Ajulu and Dr. Ofo, the group’s PRO.

PETER OBI SHOULD STOP HIS BLACKMAIL AND INTIMIDATION!

Peter Obi and his irate supporters are always quick to tell you to Go and Verify. When you do your verification and return with findings which doesn’t align to their bandwagon, they become furious and attack your person; threaten you with Death as if they alone have monopoly to madness and violence.

There are others who would label you a saboteur and hater of his brothers as if Nigeria President is family affairs.

I have always said, only the best is good enough for 2023.

If Peter Obi and supporters doesn’t support dissenting opinions and verification of his antecedents, then he is unfit to vie for President of Nigeria at this critical time.

Atiku is being criticized. Tinubu is being probed. Why won’t Obi be subjected to the same criticism and public probe like other serious contenders.

Peter Obi and his supporters should stop this IPOB craze, we can’t afford to elect a mob President like we did in 2015 with Muhammadu Buhari.

Stop forcing mob choice on the people, Peter should tell us those things to really Verify when he was Governor and stop his rhetorics and deceit.

You don’t win the Presidency with insults, abuse, campaign of hate, ethnicity and mob mentality.

I have watched how a segment of the country has continued to cry out over the nomination of Kashim Shetimma as Tinubu's running mate.

These same people have said continually that 2023 is about competence and not tribe. So Yorubas and everyone else should vote for Peter Obi because he is supposedly competent. But when it comes to religion, we should forget about competence and vote our religion abi.

KASHIM SHETIMMA is eminently qualified to be Vice President. He has been a Governor and now Distinguished Senator, so he is competent. Should we now sacrifice him because of religion? If the answer is yes, then no Hausa or Yoruba should vote Peter Obi. After all all Igbos are going to vote Obi, so let everyone vote their own tribe.

You can't tell me to vote competence over tribe but vote religion over competence. It does not add up. These Peter Obi supporters think everyone else is a fool but they are only deceiving themselves.

This will give Apc a greater chance of winning , tinubu is playing politics by taking the risk on our naivety and emotion, southerners making stupid decisions by scattering our votes in the south, while uniting the votes from the north. Atiku is not a saint but we also need to vote strategically or we will have to endure this Islamization coming up. Atiku is definitely going to have northern votes in mass but we all know majority of the south west won’t be voting for Peter obi.. Apc are banking on us being emotional with our votes.
